Regarding the female lead bit...
I prefer male leads, but I don't have a problem with a female lead if the game (story and such) calls for it. If your story is about a female, then use a female. No developer should be deciding to use a female lead and then building a game and story around that fact. I find it deeply troubling to think that IGA is using a female lead simply for the sake of having a female lead. Any game developer, screen writer, or author that would do that immediately loses credibility in my eyes.
It's like saying that you have a great story about Princess Peach that is told from her eyes and then deciding there haven't been enough stories told from a dude's point of view. So, you just change your story altogether and have it told from Luigi's perspective. You just sacrificed your story and vision just so you could have a male lead. Very, very bad.

For the extra playable characters, I feel like it should be Johannes and Zangetsu. Their modes should play like Richter Mode in SotN. Basically, you use their unique abilities and powers instead of Miriams. The castle is the same for them. Route through the castle should be different and puzzles should be different and affect what Miriam encounters depending on whether Miriam has already been there.

Bloodstained's Nightmare Mode: -Save rooms are disabled; Auto-save happens after you defeat a boss -Miriam levels up at half the normal rate -Crafting system is disabled -Enemies hit for 2x normal damage -heal items (potions, etc) cost 5x more than normal

I think it would be cool to have a prequel mini-game in the style of CV3 (NES) and have Miriam, Gebel, and Johannes as playable characters that you can hot-swap. The story would cover the events that led Miriam, Gebel, and Johannes to go from good friends to a broken relationship. It would be cool if the game played like Classic Mode, but with lots of cutscenes in the style of SotN dialogues to tell the story.

I pretty much think the classic mode should be linear stages with a boss at the end-->mini-map intermission showing where you are and your goal-->next stage. I feel like you shouldn't be able to go back once you proceed to the next screen. Boss fights should drop an orb with a "Stage Clear" message. Equipment should be fixed from the beginning. An example, would be that you are given the Crystal Longsword and that's all you get for the duration of the Classic Mode. It would be cool if candles/lanterns could be busted to drop various shards to give you, basically, subweapon powers. But you should only be able to have one at a time. Boss health should be displayed for Classic Mode.

I've had people ask me recently what my favorite game of all time is. I thought it would be interesting to see what some people's favorites are. Feel free to post your top 3. Genre, system, graphics, etc don't matter. Just whatever is your favorite game EVER...
I'll go first.
1) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night 2) Resident Evil 4 3) Double Dragon (Arcade)

That's a poor reason for choosing a female lead as the main character, IMO. No one here on the forums seems to have a problem with it, but time will tell how well a female lead is received by the public.
I cringe to think of what they might do with Miriam just because she is female. I would have been OK with the "I'm the main character and I kill the enemy. Done." bit for Miriam. She doesn't really need more fleshing out than that, IMO. But it seems IGA has more than that planned for Miriam.

It looks like ass since it was a 3DS game first. I disagree. It looks great and a huge improvement over the 3DS. But I actually liked MoF, so I'm a little biased.

I really like the double hit animation that was added. Really makes me hope that Miriam will get a semi-combo animation in Bloodstained. Instead of just slicing exactly the same way every time you press the button, she should have a 1-2 combo. No need for fancy long combos, just a simple left-to-right followed by right-to-left. This would especially make sense with a katana.

I kind of like the idea of showing us what the team is doing from time to time. Even if it is just a walkthrough of the office with a brief stop to see what everyone is working on. I needs my fix!

Interesting side...if the Switch replaces the 3DS (which I see the Switch replacing both the Wii U AND the 3DS), would IGA's team drop the prequel mini-game on the 3DS? It's pretty much the same situation as the Wii U/Switch predicament. The 3DS would be a dead console by the time Bloodstained releases. So why release the prequel on a dead system? Wait...a stretch goal said there would be a prequel game on the 3DS, so it must be done!

I will add that if the Wii U port is made AND a Nintendo Switch version is made, then I will ADD a Switch copy of Bloodstained to my list. That will make it: PS4, Steam, Wii U, and Switch. Having yet another system for me to play the game on is a good thing in my household (multiple gamers).

I was just thinking about Armature making the Wii U port and the Wii U not really using a true UE4. The Wii U/Vita ports would end up being slightly different from the PS4/X1/PC games, wouldn't they? Possibly having issues that the other versions wouldn't have? Whereas the Switch version would be pretty much identical to the non-port versions since it can run UE4 straight out without any extra coding hoops to jump through.
Bottom line...if the Armature port of Bloodstained on Wii U would end up being inferior to the other versions in any way, but the Switch version would be identical, then I think the Wii U version should be dropped and the Switch version made instead.
(I'm currently down for Bloodstained versions on PS4, Steam, and Wii U.)

Not sure how I feel about the Switch being touch screen. It unnecessarily complicates the whole system. I feel they should just stick with controllers as input and the screen being just a display.

1) I really liked the mechanic in Portrait of Ruin where your sub-weapons could level up. The more you used them, the stronger they became. Also, as the sub-weps leveled up, the physical appearance changed as well.
This is vaguely similar to how sub-weapon levels worked in Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. In LoD, the level 1 axe was just an axe that is thrown. Level 2 adds a lightning strike wherever the axe lands. And Level 3 increases the size of the lightning strike. (The physical appearance changing is kind of a Castlevania staple. Think back to old-school CV. Starting in CV1, your whip goes from a leather whip to a morning star to a longer morning star. CV2 had similar upgrades to the physical appearance of the whip. LoD also has the whip go from leather whip to morning star to light whip.)
2) I would like to see a crafting mechanic where you could add materials you found and reforge existing weapons to make them more powerful. I don't just want to gather materials and forge them into a new weapon. It would be cool to me to have weapon upgrade trees. If you have the right materials, you could take a standard longsword down the fire path until you end up with the Marsil. The same weapon could go down an ice path instead and become the Icebrand and then further to become the Ice Sword of Mim.
(Weapon trees are a huge RPG element in games like Monster Hunter.)
3) I really like IGAvania style discovery of traversal mechanics. I know you just find these as part of the game progression, but it is cool to obtain the ability to double-jump and then re-think of all the places where you could have used it. The same with the slide. I'm not sure if this is really RPG related, but it is definitely a staple of this type of game (genre).
Basically, for me the RPG elements need to include upgrades to: -player stats (STR, INT, MND, LCK, CON, etc) -player abilities (double-jump, slide, super jump, etc) -main weapons (via crafting--see above) -sub weapons (speed, power, heart/crystal consumption)

I vote Yes, but with some reservations. The Switch will be a single-screen experience whereas the Wii U could make use of the gamepad screen for the map, etc. You lose out on ANY second screen possibilities if you drop the Wii U version.

I mostly look forward to playing Monster Hunter in HD on my big-screen again (hasn't happened since Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate). Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Monster Hunter Generations were both 3DS only--which sucked. Maybe Monster Hunter 5 can be on the Switch and therefore on my big screen.
