Rosenkreustilette. (I hope I spelt that right) It's a pretty fun (and hard) little Mega Man clone. Is that game still doujin or has it become mainstream-indie (heh) on steam or something? It has a sequel btw I think.

I'm honestly surprised people think it looks better than expected. looks like a typical 8bit platformer castlevania game to me only with somewhat oddly coloured playable characters, mechanically advanced bosses, mechanically advanced player abilities (which worries me about making the game too easy), and regular enemies who seem unable to be a threat to the more advanced player abilities/control.
I mean it looks fine enough for me, it's pretty much exactly what I expected minus the PC colouring.

Oh yeah. that voice is actually pretty bad.
Apparently it's one inticreates always uses for their trailers though. I don't think it has anything to do with bloodstained otherwise.

Definitely looking forward to playing it. The character colours does seem a bit odd to me but nothing really bad. However I'm worried about the stages. The bosses look cool, but seeing the character abilities and how frequently you seem to be able to change between them... it looks like most trash will pose little to no threat with all these tools the players can use to attack at safe distances or avoid danger and such.

yeah, I know that the larger social platform is a reason people would pick steam over gog, I wasn't asking why people would. Just surprised that that many people favor those values over the more traditional gamer values when this game is essentially a recreation of an older loved series.
That's also why I brought up gog connect. Because you could have the best of both worlds with gog connect.

Yeah I got my physical copy gog-style. Surprised moar people didn't do that.
Speaking of which though, I wonder if this game will be on the steam/gog connect thing. That would be nice. What exactly is required for that to happen?

Have you played a Ys game Spidery? It's kinda like Zelda only with great music and combat, but the dungeons aren't as good puzzle-wise. Don't play chronicles (1 and 2). They aren't bad, I like em even, but they are not like the rest of the series. It's kinda like zelda 2 in a sense. Good game, but the worst game to play if you wanna know what a zelda game is like.
That said someone mentioned Crosscode. That game should be up your alley. Though it's not dark, it has a much larger world than a zelda game though, and equipment and levelups and such are way more meaty.

Yeah I heard from angry joe. I know people think he 'sold out' now and lost respect, but he still has content that is fun to watch and he works hard at it so meh. I still th ink he's far more respectable than polygon though =P.
Anyway 10 bucks for a save slot is in fact some of the lowest. Though honestly korean mmo gacha has a pretty high level of bull too. I mean people th ink of lootboxes thanks to overwatch and star wars. But old Korean mmos did it first, and theirs was pay to win too. I mean ever played vindictus? Amazing game, I love it. But lots of the endgame raids take absolutely ages to kill unless you have higher than +10 gear or whatever the +s were (I forget), and getting that was virtually impossible without cashing, in which case it merely improves your chances, doesn't guarantee it. It's normal for peopel to cough up hundreds to do this on ONE weapon. And while vindictus may not be targeting children as much, many other korean mmos do, and have similar gacha systems.
Just so you know, when I say chances are slim, it's not just long or tedious, if you failed your attempt, your item BREAKS, and not something you pay 100 gold to repair at the blacksmith, nope, it's gone for good, no hope. gone. Some games let you pay like 15 bucks to fix it though so yeah.
Imagine if overwatch loot boxes had stuff everyone wanted but never dropped unless they clicked a box that let you roll for it and succeed like 3% of the time, and 50% of the time your character loses all their skins or whatever. unless you pay a buck, then you succeed 4% of the time, and failure has no penalty. But you fail anyway 30 times in a row, so 30 bucks down the drain for nothing. Manipulating kids to gamble imo, and even the non kids, it's still sleezy.

re: tales of points system.
Trails of cold steel has this too kinda. But the first game that really did this (and did it far more extensively too) that I know of is Sengoku Rance.. Which is a very naughty game btw NSFW warning. It actually has good gameplay though, which is the only reason why I like it.
In any case, it is kinda like a turn based strategy game that acts half like a really big board game. You have military units and captains and conquer territories, collect taxes, etc. You get to perform so many 'actions' between each of your turn, not just move and attack, but goto the bar, shop, church, explore optional dungeons, etc.
In any case, it gave you a score at the end of the game that was calculated using many different variables. How many turns did it take for you to beat the game, did you get the bad ending, the normal ending, the good, ending, the 'true' ending. Did you kill Bonus boss X, Y, Z, etc. How much of the country have you conquered by the end, etc.
Then in NG+ you didn't just spend points on costume unlocks, carrying over levels, money, items, etc. But instead smaller things like start with a sorcerer unit in your army (which are otherwise unobtainable until 1/4 thru the game or something), get 3 'action' points per turn, gain fame 10% faster, Start as your class upgrade instead of base class, etc
Naturally these are not 'start at level 99' like would be the case for other ng+s (provided you ended at it). But simply having that option available as well would be fine with me.
Basically I like the idea of a ng+, but oftentimes I don't like to use them because many are too overpowering. I want a treat or a bonus, not something so blatantly unfair that if the AI int he game was another player they would storm off in a huff at how badly you are cheating.
Also, I don't particularly like costume or cosmetic unlocks in ng+ unless they are totally immersion breaking, those are fine. But otherwise I would prefer that the player have 'normal' costumes available in their first game because expecting players to play your game from start to finish more than once is a bit much. I mean sure I'm a gamer, I do it all the time to games I like, but I kn ow lots of people who aren't like that, and shafting them for some arbitrary reason isn't cool imo.

So I moved half a year ago, and got around to unpacking a box I haven't gotten around to unpacking for reasons. Found some of my old music cds, ok, then saw a band I completely forgot about. I didn't actually like the band enough to buy most of their albums, but they had one I really liked.
stupid link keeps starting 2 minutes in. whyy.
I didn't forget this band. But sharing it anyway cuz I love this album (and the one after, the one after that felt like they 'sold out' a little unfortunately).
Back when this music was current, you weren't allowed to say you liked that band because they were CHRISTIAN (supposedly, I don't even know how people can tell tbh). oh my god! It was kinda silly but metalheads had to have a stick up their ass about Christians much like some notorious athiests do. Personally I never cared, still don't, I just liked how they sounded ffs.

I like ng+ features in games to offer options that would be fun or fresh but weren't included in the main game for balance reasons. like being able to play any character, including the op or underpowered ones, or letting the player play without the story forcing certain features to be locked.
Granted I like challenge too, so I often prefer the game to offer some increase in difficulty to compensate too.

@pure blah to mock some people blah
I agree. One thing I forgot to mention is that all my games will have very adjustable difficulty settings with some preset templates. Rather than naming them easy, normal, hard, etc. It'll be like doom or wolfenstein with ones like 'don't hurt me mommy', etc. Naturally I will make sure the easiest setting is 'for journalists' =P.

1: a game like scorched earth with the tank customization of armored core. So not just weapons and shields. But armor and deflectors and tracks and a chassis, barrels for the guns, radar, power generator, engine, radiator, targeting systems, Maybe crew as well Scorched Earth was my jam for a long time, i like the way you think. If you did make a thread similar to this before, i'm sorry i didn't see it! i would have been all over that thread at least as a lurker like i usually am. Thank you for participating in this one though, you do have good ideas. Nono, I didn't say that to accuse you of stealing a thread or something silly (especially since yours was necro'd). but because I just didn't want people to think 'gosh he already said that, stop spamming!' if they saw the other one I THINK I made.

I forgot to mention, someone mentioned crosscode. That game is dope, everyone should play it... and Ys. IMO it's like phantasy star setting with ys-like combat (though with more range less melee), and zelda style dungeon designs. seriously amazing.
It's still in early access but I already got 50 hours in it without replaying it, and they are about to do a huge update (and release) relatively soon.
Just don't get ys8 on pc, it's apparently a terrible port. Why didn't they use xseed again. why. I don't even hate nisa. But xseed is already on a roll with falcom games on pc, nisa clearly didn't know what they were doing in that department.

Nice Avatar Acia. I don't know why that Millia gets no love, it's always the first game's version, or that god awful white and blue outfit. Yours is clearly the best though. Wish someone would make an mmd model of it qq. edit: I guess I should at least try to nibble on the topic, sorry. Anyway... I don't care for mobile games but until recently I tried Honkai impact 3rd and it's actually good. the combat is good, the character designs are great if you aren't phobic about anime girls, and the pay to features are actually well done. Crystals are the premium currency, and you get crystals for doing daily quests, events, etc. Paying only speeds it up, and while it's not the first game to do it, I find it's really good at making it so the speedup factor doesn't seem blatantly unfair. Plus there is no pvp as far as I know so it's doubly less unfair. ANYWAY, I have a seemingly strange middle ground when it comes to microtransactions and paid dlc and all that with games. I HATE pay to win just as much as anyone who complains about it, possibly even more so. But I'm not paranoid about it where it doesn't exist. If a game has payed cosmetics only, I'm not going to jump on them for it claiming it's a slippery slope and if you give them an inch they will take a mile. If you give some people an inch, some will take a mile yes, but if you give some people an inch, some may only take an inch. Therefore I judge every game individually based on what they DO, not on what their practices supposedly LEAD to. Newsflash, pay to win has existed for several years now, and some companies still have paid dlc that isn't pay to win, so stop blanket labeling them all such. As for the dlc that is not pay to win, but has a big price. Sometimes it can be annoying something you want is too expensive to be worth it. But I don't hate the developers for it, they do have to make money, and if the game is otherwise great, the more money they make from said game, the better and more likely they will make more like it. So why deny them the incentive to do good work? Making games isn't easy, it's hard work, I think they deserve extra cash just like delivery people, waiters, etc. I think of them as tips with benefits instead of tips for no reason.

ghaleon , you're not wrong there, but that alienates everyone that doesn't play on PC. Having both mod support and official costume options is a win for everybody, and I'd love to see the official artists' take on outfits. I honestly find that to be a bit of a dated point. This game is using the unreal engine on all the platforms isn't it? Therefore the costume files should be compatible across platforms, and all the modern consoles these days either hook up to computers or accept thumbsticks I believe. I don't know about the nintendo ones though. That said those platforms were backer bonuses. Wouldn't be much of a bonus to refrain from doing something for everyone else for said bonus. Even then they could release the most popular fanmade mods as free dlc or update options later or something.
