The unreal engine is PC native, honestly I can't imagine not supporting keyboard controls on a game using it's engine without deliberately going out of your way to close it off. WHY would they do that? Simply baffling to me. Previous castlevania games's input are no excuse, they weren't on pc, this one is, and the engine used to develop it uses a keyboard as its default input.
I can go on but it's difficult to without coming across as combative, ,which is not my intent. My intent is to communicate that basic input is too important to neglect, even moreso than a replicatable crashbug (unless it's like.. you can't even get past the main menu crashbug), To date I have never complained about delays, and have even tried to prepare people for them back in 2016 knowing that the promises made were grand. But getting a literal last day delay when something so basic was considered unimportant and ignored is seriously dumbfounding.
I'm sorry for those of you who can't fathom playing a game on a keyboard. I understand and respect different control preferences, but at the same time please respect those with different preferences, particularly since this is the native platform's form of control.
2d platformers do not use analogue directional inputs, there is frankly no benefit to using a controller for such a game beyond your own comfort zone with past games made using controllers simply because controllers were THEIR native input device on whatever console.
There are plenty of 2d platformers on pc that use keyboard, and they donot tell players to use a controller for benefits or whatnot. Even Doujin Japanese games allow keyboards as a default (Doujin = Japanese indie). Only instead of WSAD, they typically use arrow keys, z,x,c,shift, spacebar,a,s, etc. (with z,x,c being the main buttons). Why would a Japanese Doujin game have more/better keyboard functionality than a million dollar investment game developed for years? It's not something you should dismiss complaints about.

I kinda expect the ps5 to be backwards compatible.. the ps2 was with the 1. But 3 was not with 2.. well it was originally. But it caused problems (Since it had to be done by basically cramming a miniturized version of the ps2's guts inside the ps3), which as someone who has developed software on the ps2, I can believe, and the ps3 hardware is even MORE wonky than the ps2.. But they specifically designed the ps4 to make development and pc compatibility more simple, and as such, I expect it to be much easier to be made backwards compatible with for future console generations.

Go away. not everyone is you. If controllers didn't work and you complained I would support you, if SOTN was on a PC to begin with, I would have.

Name any games you folks have been waiting for to have a sale for a painfully long time to no avail. By sale I mean sale with a discount that meets your satisfaction. Some people are cheaper than others, that's ok. I myself was not happy with a 33% off sale for enter the gungeon for over a year, before it finally had a 50% sale for example.
In any case. Now it's Stranger of Sword City revisited. I'll happily take a 33% off for that game, but I haven't even seen a 10% off.. in over a year! AGHGHH.

The demo is configured only for controllers. The keyboard commands weren't meant to be in this demo. The final version of the game will have keyboard support. I'm sorry but it's pretty silly that the demo was delayed for a week for bugs identified during E3 but implementing keyboard commands on a PC demo of the game wasn't implemented? I'm not a PC master race guy, but it's really not cool that the default controls for a pc are so neglected this far into the project. Didn't the first demo like a year ago have keyboard controls?

Video isn't playing for me... does this actually feature people intentionally getting drunk and maintaining it while playing games? Sounds amusing but not really something that I think should ethically be promoted and raise funds/awareness for. I mean using it to fight cancer or whatever isn't the problem, but the whole 'hey kids, you can be cool and famous and stuff by playing games AND being plastered!' is something I think we should avoid communicating.
I say this as someone who would LOVE to participate btw =P

Key boards actually play these kinds of games just fine. Some people are REALLY not used to it and they think that because of that, anyone who prefers keyboard is an idiot. But objectively, there are no advantages to using a controller over a keyboard for these kinds of games beyond your personal tastes and what you're comfortable with. Yes in fact most 2d platformers were developed with controllers in mind, but that was just a matter of them being a hot game genre for consoles, and consoles used controllers. It didn't make controllers purely better for the game. Otherwise you would say JRPGs were better on controllers too (though most still are simply because if they have pc ports they tend to be lower quality ports that don't really put much effort into being fully customizable on keyboard or whatever).
Lots of people play bullet hell shooters on keyboards over controllers, which require FAR more precise movement and higher difficulty, so eh.
In any case. Unless things changed over the decade. xinput doesn't mean xbox input. It's actually directX input, which in fact includes keyboard and mouse. In addition, I think your playstation controller will work just fine, I think steam interprits it and 'converts' it to xinput automatically, or if not there is software that does this, see scptookit.

That wasn't even fine print or a FAQ though. I mean you might say it's a FAQ since it was a question answer, but that was day 1, there were no questions to be asked yet. That was preemptively written. It was in fact a listed feature.

It said 2.5D day one. I know, I was a day 1 backer and it said that to begin with, and I frequently mock those 2.5D whiners on these very forums because they feel entitled to complain about something that was a foundation to this whole project day 1. Why don't you complain it's inspired off castlevania and not yo noid while you're at it.

A little off topic... but were still seeing comments about the game needing a combo system. It makes me so angry when I see them. I wouldn't say it needs a combo system, but I wouldn't be opposed to it either. That said I think when people say that they are in favor of a fairly meaningless combo system, which I define as one where you generally only need to reuse one or two combos over and over again. Though not many people like it that I know of, there is an mmo named Elsword which actually has a very deep combo system, one where you frequently make use of nearly all of your characters moves, and it can vary depending on the situation to a great extent. It was a very solid game in that respect. It's a shame nobody made a single player version of a game quite like that IMO I would LOVE to play it. (the character design of that game is great too imo). I'm not one of the people who says this game needs it though. At the same time however I don't think it would ruin it either like I imagine you probably are thinking. Didn't order of ecclesia kinda feel like it had one though? I forgot, haven't played it for so long.

I mean no one announces a release date 3-5 months before launch (except maybe Bethesda)
There's this wonderful localization company called Xseed which I adore for their work on Ys and Trails in the/of the series who ever since SC, announce release date often less than a single month before release. Trails of cold steel 2 I seem to recall was like 'surprise, it's out next week!'

I don't trust anything journos say, whether they say what I want or not. This article for example, I'm skeptical they are simply trying to cash in on the massively rose-tinted sunglasses reviews on curse of the night. I mean I don't even think they are wrong, I think they just truly want to parrot what they think more people wanna hear.

Most people rank games too high though, not too low. What I mean is that 7 or 8 out of 10 is 'average', and 5 is generally considered 'poor'

The game is good enough for me as a free bonus as a kickstarter. But perfect? If the big Bloodstained game is equally good, I will be very disappointed. Yes I realize the base price is more (not much more though I think, only double or triple isn't it?), but Honestly. The music in this game, Aside from the remixes of the stuff Yamane already did, Do you think any of them will live as long in your heart like previous castlevania tunes? Is this comparable to shovel knight overall? I haven't even played shovel knight but as far as 2d action platformers go I think that one is the gold standard, and perfect is perfect, so...
I don't mean to trash the game, or the team. I still have high hopes for the real game, but if it has issues, I have hopes that we can point them out and I have faith they will be listened to and fixed... But if people think it's perfect no matter what, I'm worried.

Was the first post deleted by a mod or something? I thought it would be interesting to talk about the real vlad. qq.
Anyway I'm not a history buff, nor am I Romanian. however I do know that your general every day Romanian think of him as something of great man. Apparently he had corrupt vassels that were really only kept in line by his dominating presence and/or charisma, and Romanians think he protected them from the Ottoman empire, whom after Vlad, succeeded in enslaving Romania. Then after they were finally free, they ended up getting a communist Tyrant, and they finally overthrew him, and now they are still stuck in bad sorts due to the European Union seemingly making it really hard for poor countries to prosper (like Greece for example).
Poor Romania can't catch a break. Vlad on the other hand, is probably their only historical great figure that actually benefited them. Though his reputation is terrible, as far as I know, he never actually invaded anyone or conquered anyone, so... Was he actually a bad guy? History is written by the winners, and Romania hasn't won anything for a very long time.

I thought pillars of eternity is supposed to scratch that itch.
Anyway while I liked those games I actually enjoyed the original Neverwinter nights (and its expansions) most of all. Normally I like having a party but for NWN I really liked the single player feel. Made stats and decisions feel more meaningful, like a fallout 1/2 game or something I guess.
Kinda wish they'd make a new NWN style game with the new D&D edition.

I believe in honesty. Frankly this game isn't bad but I doubt I'll really enjoy it much once the newness wears off. I don't care for graphics so much that I refuse to play games if they don't have great graphics, but at the same time I don't automatically give anything with 8 bit graphics a pass like I see so many other people do. They're fine, but I didn't see myself surprised with anything either (except maybe the final boss. She's cute! No seriously, I've never thought of an 8 bit girl as cute before but she is... is it just me?). The difficulty is the biggest gripe I have. I really really wish they didn't hide harder difficulties behind a regular run first. It was just too darn easy except bs insta kill locust swarm moments in the final stage, which is really only going to be an issue for a first playthru, not future ones. Nightmare difficulty is what I would have liked to begin with.
I find the music to be pretty average for 8 bit music. It's not castlevania good IMO. Though I do like the bgm for stage 2 quite a bit.
Sorry. But I just think it's a nice little perk to come along with the BS package, which is good enough for me. But I would have felt disappointed if I coughed up 10 bucks for it (I'm picky with my purchases though). Not egregiously so, but kinda like 'meh, oh well, better luck next time'.
