Ive never liked a newer system over an older one except 95 and maybe xp.
I never upgrade unless im being pulled kicking and screaming. Not juwt because of changes, or bugs... But so-called performance upgrades are always a farce. Performance ALWAYS drope after an upgrade contrary to what they claim every time, Not to mention they always hog more resources.

Its important to consider that player mobility is one thing that will affect how easy or hard a game is more than anything else. It will likely be very hard to make a game difficult at all if the player can dash in every direction, double jump, backstep, etc. Having one such ability is fine but once you have more than one it becomes difficult to make attacks that arent trivialized by one or more of them without being potentially unfair.

One thing I liked about ooe is enemies didnt just attack you and you display a standard hit animation. There were enemies like that viant skeleton that would grab you, hold you up, and smack you a few times as you were helpless. I hole to see more things like that.

Thanks! The system is interesting, but looks like that only Insight lvl 1 worth, no? BTW, Bloodborne is so hard as people say? I never played Demon Souls or Dark Souls. I heard that those 2 games are really hard to beat. Im texting on phone please forgive bad typing. Anyway i love demons souls and dark souls, but they really are not newrly as hard as they are made out to be. Basically they are about as hard as your average game with a difficulty setting set to hard. Only they do not have a difficulty setting. They cannot be made easier or harder via settings. Many games with difficulty settings past hard are in fact harder games. Ninja gaiden for example is WAY harder on its highest setting... Probably its 2nd highest setting too. I think one of the reasons why people overstate the souls' series difficulty so much is because the way the game encourages you to play. Unlike other 3rd person action games, you dont charge enemies and kill them when you see them even if there are t in the same room. Souls is NOT a stealth game BUT you have to kind of analyze and prepare for encounters kind of like a stealth game. Look at that room with 5 enemies and see if you can fight less than the full group somehow. Maybe throw a bomb in to soften them all up first if that isnt possible. Defend yourself by retreating to a defensible position. Etc. You do level up and get better gear so you can eventually charge groups of enemies 2ith confidence. But in general, for content appropriate to your level, this is a big mistake and will get you in trouble. So... Dark souls famed difficulty is a combination of: Being a high profile game without a difficulty setting that is not as easy as other mainstream games set to normal. Advertising campaign. People playi g it like ninja gaiden or devil may cry thinking you are supposed to just bum rush every fight you see. People patting themselves on the back for being macho and playi g SUCH a hard game. Dont get me wrong. The challenge level of the game is higher than normal, and it IS satisfying. But its difficulty doesnt hold up against any game made by cave, i wanna be the guy, games with very hard difficulty settings, etc.

Double post cuz I'm bad. Something I discovered that floors me every time that nobody seems to care about (maybe nobody else thinks so?)... the BGM for maple wise, and the bgm for the fortress of doom.. two different games. but lufia and the fortress of doom was made by taito, Zun Used to work for Taito.. They sound so similar at the start too (aside from the fact one is on the SNES and another is on the pc-98).

Yes, I'm a fan of taw-haw, I consider myself medium-length fan now since it seems like there was a fairly large influx of new fans sometime around 10D... may have been dem fighting games, I dunno. Anyway I've been a fan since JUUUUUST Before SA's release (and it had a demo out already). When I just discovered touhou.. err I mean too-hoo, the vast majority of people I knew who liked it also discovered it form that god-awful ronald mcdonald thing... I don't understand, if I saw that damn commercial, I would have absolutely NO INTEREST in anything related to it.. seriously.. how the heck do people go from seeing that abomination to deciding "omg I have to try whatever that's based off of!"... Anyway for me it was more of a personal story. I was having a craving for hard games, before they became trendy thanks to dark souls. So I had done some research and enjoyed I Wanna be the Guy and I wanna be the Fangame. But after completing them, I wanted more...Then I found that "HARDEST VIDEO GAME BOSS EVAR" video featuring mushihimesama-futari's final boss. Which looked hard. So I wanted that game, but the xbox360 version didn't exist at the time (nor did I have an ecksbawks 360 anyway back then). But by researching that game, I discovered the term 'danmaku', soo.. I looked for OTHER danmaku games, and, I found touhou, found it was on pc, so I could play it, and so I did. Loved it since.
EoSD was my first tee-haw game and it remains one of my fave official ones (PCB is my other fave). Fighting games don't interest me at all so I never tried them. After a year or two of religious playing, (I lunatic 1cc'd eosd, pcb, in, mof, and then decided I wasn't enjoying the process enough to bother any more, Hard 1cc's were more fun for me...lunatic is like... you have to memorize everything, it's a learning thing. you have to watch videos, study experts, etc. It was like work...which is fine for the games I liked the most but I wanted something new)I decided to expand to the fangames. I initially wasn't expecting much from them, I mean they're FAN games right? How good can they be? Holy Jesus Yokai! Labyrinth of Touhou is quite possibly one of my fave games of all time! Genius of sappheiros is really effing good too! I WISH I could play fushigi no gensokyou but no translation patch, but I know I'd like that game too. Touhou soccer 2 was fun for awhile too but got old to me after awhile, it was a good dang while though. I also like mystical chain as mentioned. Really fine game, the stages in it can drag on though, especially those damn lighting-summoning dudes near the final stages.. god those things are a pain, you have to play super super super super careful around them. That game's patchy theme is one of the best too even though it's pretty repetitive. I wish they had another version of it that was more complete and less loopy because what they started with it is great.
I personally don't see the big deal about touhou castlevania though... The art and the sprites are ridiculously well done, but the actual gameplay and music failed to impress me.
My fave Touhou girls are pretty typical. Remilia, Flan, and Patchy. Despite being an SDM fanboy I'm not a big fan of china, she's just meh...and sakuya is better than meh but not by a whole lot. One character I like that bugs the heck out of me that nobody cares about is Kaggy. She's so misrepresented. She's portrayed as some useless shut-in, and I don't mean by fan jokes like yuyu being a glutton, it's like people seem to think that's her canon personality! But in the game she actually enjoys your company, wishes she could go out more, and in fact SHE helps EIRIN when you battle Eirin, and NOT the other way around. Everyone has her completely @%@#% backwards. seriously.
I better stop lol.

the music and the atmosphere...this is a very odd thing for me to say because I'm normally a gameplay purist who can ignore aesthetics completely and still enjoy the game.

I can't help but notice some people seem to have this new title already at one point, then lose it at another, then get it back, then lose it... other people seem to just perma have it now, and some people never have it. I think a monkey is controlling it or something =P.
But the title controls what colour that little bat under our name is right? Maybe for the special title we get a black bat with little blood drops dripping from its fangs or something, sounds corny but I just mean in a vampire bat like way.

Actually I thought during the last few days the ks site seemed to indicate we'd get surveys in about a week after the KS completed. But it's been that long now and I last saw a staffer say something like "that's not on our list of priorities right now since there's still lots of time". That's true, and I don't mind but I could have SWORN it said in about a week at one point =P

I just call it BS because bloodstained is the name and RotN is more the subtitle IMO... maybe I'll call it RotN if we get a whole series of bloodstained games but for now it's BS to me. Doesn't bother me what the acronym represents. I call Trails in the Sky TitS without any sense of juvenile delight for example.

baw I'm sorry. I lost my own kitty Phantom a couple months ago. I got lucky though and he passed away pretty peacefully when we were kinda expecting it within the month, so there wasn't really any trauma.
Seeing him in game will be sweet though. Whenever I see things that remind me of Phantom, it doesn't make me sad, it makes me smile from all the good memories, I was lucky to have known him.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure it's ok to say metroidvania, kinda like the creators of rogue don't get to sue everyone who calls their game a roguelike.

I hope so. We are finished talking about what Ben wanted to talk about and are waiting for news on that ourselves. Okay cool. I'm assuming what you guys talked about is something we can't quite know yet. Got to page 6 before the question disrespecting the nature of privacy was dropped... THANKS ALOT BSM!!!!! Kidding, we were all thinking it I'm sure =P. And by creating this topic I'm COMPLETELY RESP... err.. INNOCENT! Seriously though, I just hope that this is a good thing for everyone who worked hard on creating this site, regardless of if it is or not, thank you =)

I like OoE's the most, and I don't know if cheerful is the right way to describe it... it certainly isn't dark or forboding though, but that kinda is understandable given the story of that game. In that one you don't goto dracula to stop horrible atrocities and whatnot... in that one dracula is sleeping, and you are the special one who will end him once and for all, it shouldn't be a dark moment in that sense.
That said the new one for BS is... I agree, it's unlike the others, It's not bad per say, but I dunno, seems kinda noisy to me, particularly the first 7 seconds...Which is strange because that music most resembles what I listen to outside of gaming (death/black metal).

I wish I had a link for that really old World of Warcraft comic where some girl is reading her quest saying she needs various materials from various animal body parts and she's like sweet, simple, and on the next screen you see like a zoo's worth of animals, where they are all missing said body parts.. I wonder if that will be applicable to this game at some point.

I don't mean to shake up a hornets nest here... but what kind of unwarranted pressure are you talking about? If you're thinking what I'm thinking, Gamasutra itself would likely be one such source of said pressure. I'd read the article and find out but I don't support Gamasutra.

I posted awhile back in another forum that I think publishers need to go in general, but not exactly. Now I know developers generally can't afford huge budgets without publisher support but I think it's time they start working with lower budgets for their games. It's getting easier and easier to make quality games with lower and lower budgets, in fact I think the whole doujin circle game development model in the east is pretty much the way to go.
Fact is I think publishers are just kinda getting obsolete. I'm not saying they are all bad 100% of the time, I understand a publisher isn't something people would be a fool to say no to, just like I recognize the publisher we will likely enjoy the support of for bloodstained. But I think publishers are kinda like movie rental stores in modern days. With digital purchases, netflix, etc, they just kinda don't have the same need as before, but yet they still retain the same level of control, and lack the 'purity' in their products for the actual gamers. Now that the internet is a thing, and that development software is more common, and much of it being open source and free, and all that. A major job of having a publisher hunt for a box artist, a music arranger, a game manual writer, an editor, etc, etc for joe programmer to make his game is just not as important. Any old shmoe can easily find people with those talents now, or even the software just by doing some online networking. I think it's kind of ironic now however that publishers have kind of recently 'won' their own agenda, when they have failed in the past when they were more neccesary before.
Back up to the time when SNES and Sega Genesis were the main gaming platforms of choice, there was a sudden push for bigger, and more holly-wood esque...with the 3DO, and the CDI, and the sega CD, and publishers trying to shove weird live action videos into every game like that's the thing gaming needs to become a massive market, it didn't work out. But now, that's kind of exactly the kind of stuff that is taking over the market. Maybe not live-action per say, but the movement towards making games about less gameplay, and more about watching heavily scripted for full FMV scenes with hollywood-levels of drama, it's definately there all of a sudden, and people are eating it up.
But I don't think things are really looking low for the 'old gaming purists' (which has nothing to do with gender anything, ugh). While it's true that the heavily advertised and high budget games seem to be losing their gameplay value inf favor of these publisher-oriented tastes, there are still more than enough games that cater to the actual game itself for us to sink our teeth into. The only real tragedy IMO are old classic series owned by companies that still worship the publisher, or by publishers themselves, being neglected or ruined because their charm to gamers was not built on publisher-oriented demands. For example, Final Fantasy...while it's very possible for people to enjoy both the old games and the new, I'd find it hard to believe for anyone to claim they enjoy both with the same mindset. Nobody enjoyed Final fantasy one because they were gripped by the touching story of 4 nameless heroes searching for 4 crystals. It was about surviving challenging encounters with frugal amounts of gold that they had to budget wisely around, and prepare to dive into unforgiving dungeons...now it's about hot damn squareenix are really good at particle effects and camera manipulation as they tell a story about god knows what.
So TLDR... Publishers just aren't needed for game devs hoping to make games of the same vein as before. Use the internet, find the talent needed yourself, make/join a doujin circle (I'm no expert but I think they are different than indie devs in that they tend to have larger 'staff', but they don't all necessarily work on the same game, merely a group of like-minded individuals who are happy to work on the same projects together but pool their talents into where they are needed, if they are at all for said project). Publishers are still there for those of you who ENJOY the high budget AAA style games, and they are NOT killing off other games, they just are making their own thing in unison. It's up to the players to pick and choose for themselves which they buy and play.
