What do the symbols meanu? what is "coverage"? How do stats work? THIS GAME NEEDS AN EXPLANATION OF HOW THINGS WORK!!!! New to Igavanias? No. This game does not need to explain everything to the player. Bloodstained follows the exact same formula that IGA has used in his previous games. it is a game about exploration and that exploration involves things such as mechacnics or the amount of HP restored by a potion or other healing items. also, many of the things you asked are actually mentioned in the game (in books, your journal, loading screens) or are really easy to figure out by yourself if you really need someone or something to explain those things to you, thats fine. but the Game is fine as it is. i was going to answer all of your questions but the guy above has already answered them for you.

i can only use them with the D-pad. If i keep trying to master them with the joystick ill end up gettin a serious joystick drift problem.
the moment i got the power slash for greatswords, my life changed completely. its just EXTREMELY SATISFYING to kill large enemies with it. i also use the triple katana combo to melt bosses since thats a pretty easy one to pull off. but then there are some that just drive me insane and i can't never use them when i want or when i think they can prove useful.
I really love techniques. i just wish we were allowed to use them with any weapon once they get mastered.

oh wow that treasure chest bug is real. now we need a fix for the fix? yikes.
other bugs that i noticed after i installed the PS4 Patch:
1. when obtaining a shard the screen will freeze for 1 second before the animation of the crystals covering the screen triggers. i can swear this didn't happen before the patch. 1.1 Not sure if it is a bug but the screen crystalizing being a different color of that of the new shard obtained is still there.
2. i couldnt pick a single item drop in the outside area of the tower of the twin dragons. just like in the beta, the item bags would show but they cannot be looted. again, this only started to happen after the patch.
3. all the green chests i opened are closed again but i didnt run into open chests that should be closed like the others report.
4. wheres is my macuahuitl? its gone from my inventory and i can't craft it anymore because its gone from the crafting menu as well.
the are so many bugs.

PS4 BUG: CHANGING TEXT LANGUAGE BREAKS THE GAME (game crashes after pressing a button in the Press any button screen)
okay, so i finally got home and started the game all good, loading screens but then i decided to change the text language from spanish to english, then, after my settings saved the game was restarted, but now i cannot get to pass the PRESS ANY BUTTON screen. it crashes everytime i press a button and if i ignore it completely the game just restarts again.
not sure if i should report this is as a bug or wait until we get the day1 (or 2) patch because that was a really really bad bug. i reinstalled the game, the text is back in spanish and i can play just fine but im actually scared to try to change the text again because im more than certain that the same thing is going to happen.
come on guys, i believe in you but if my first 2 minutes of interaction with the game introduced me to a game breaking bug then im not sure if i want to keep going. that was really dissapointing.
EDIT: SUBMITTED BUG REPORT

Im very much digging the game, the music is amazing as expected and the environments look stunning! And barely 2 hours in with so many weapons, powers and crafting goodies! There's still some visual hiccups. Character Models for some characters, espeially the villiagers, can look pretty rough. And in the Garden of Silence there's this room with a blood tint and a big blood moon. I thought it was gorgeous...until I noticed the moon was in the wrong layer of the background and covered up the spires in the back that probably should be in *front* of the moon. I don't believe the "Red Moon Room" is bugged. the funny looking red moon covering the spires has existed since the beta demo and it was pointed out by so many people that i would find it hard to believe that the devs ignored it or forgot to "fix it" many player theories came later, some suggested that the red moon was actually gremory and the room will probably have a use for plot. if it ends up being a bug, i will laugh hard and feel a little dissapointed

watching IGA play his own game was very fun and entertaining. i was getting nervous and a little excited every time his health dropped below 100 but he did pretty good until valac absolutely destroyed him. the game really looks better and way more interesting when the person playing is not a journalist.

Aztec i didnt get any updates. my curse of the moon is still the same in PS4. maybe it was one of those ninja updates that upgrade performance? then again. I couldn't find any information or comments about it. perhaps you are the chosen one who was given a special update with a secret awaiting to be discovered by you. GO NOW! Turn on your switch and go play another run of the game oh brave chosen one! okay. sorry.

I don't know if they actually kept the drop rates they had in the demo but shards drop quite often. IGA being IGA. im sure there will be a few monsters with obnoxiously low drop rates. killing the same enemy 10 or 30 times is not that big of a problem unless its one of the monsters with special gimmicks that makes them particularly annoying to kill when trying to obtain the shard/soul. personally i don't mind the low drop rates (except when im trying to get 100% everything) but i can see myself overleveling really fast. i wish there was an option or accesory that prevents you from gaining exp in exchange for a massive boost to your luck.
now that you mention drop rates sucking in these games... i remember there was an enemy in Aria of Sorrow called Shadow lord or knight? i killed it over 1000 times trying to get his rare item drop for my bestiary completionism. i literally went from lv70 to 99, i maxed his soul and i think i got it over 20 times and i still didnt get the rare item drop. a friend of mine told me it was a super potion (not worth it). to this day i still own my Castlevania Doublepack GBA catridge with an aria of sorrow file missing that item. something similar happened in lament of innocence when i was farming for the invincible jar relic. that was a monumental waste of time but i had to get that 100%
i love the idea of increasing the drop rates when killing the same enemy multiple times. Altough its probably too late for any changes or feedback so we can just wish they included something like that in the game.

Funny thing, I've been seeing comments on Youtube and such that people are saying they are going to buy the game now just based on the new trailer's "confident" tone. They say they like the defiant attitude and that the developers listened to feedback. Bloodstained might get to be a success as a "social movement," regardless of the game itself, which is just bizarre. But if the game benefits from it, it can't hurt, and people might find they actually like the game itself. right? the trailer was incredible and it earned the team massive amounts of respect, specially in a time like this when the gaming industry keeps dissapointing. however, one thing i noted was that the trailer was so effective that many people got "brainwashed" and of course they agreed to support the game and open their wallets. obviously many of them were exagerating to show respect to lord IGA. i hope atleast a small amount of those newcomers get to fall in love with the game. I say this because bloodstained is not for everyone, mostly due to its slow paced gameplay. but the trailer makes it look so damn good. btw... if IGA is lord Dracula. does that mean Angel Corlux is Death?

i know nothing about the impact and costs of developing a game when it comes to graphics and performance but if its money we are talking about its a little unfair to compare an indi game such as bloodstained to a AAA game developed by teams with loooots of experience and probably millions of bucks to throw away.
bloodstained got what? 5.5m from KS and who knows how much from others sources (505games, slacker backer, IGA'S personal wallet of dreams, other shady sources) but i still dont think that compares to the amount of $ and other resources dropped on games such as Mortal Kombat or Mario.
EDIT: holy mother of drakengard that video gave me flashbacks of the horrible FPS drops and screen tearing i had to face when i was playing resident evil 5. it gets very annoying and hard to get used to.

yikes that switch framerate meh. i see a huge wave of angry and dissapointed people coming but im at the point where i gave up paying attention to the the bad stuff involving this game as long as im not affected. 30 fps and im still certain that Bloodstained is going to be a hit in the switch and will probably become the top seller for consoles. its a metroidvania. I would love to play it on the go if i could. but my PS4 owns me despite all the bs i have to go through with that console. looking forward to the next update. Also, shitpost below.now if you excuse me, Im going to hide in the safety shelter before the angry Nintendo mob comes here demanding the game to be 60fps because this, that and because 5.5 million blah blah blah. see you next update.

i remember how excited i was the first time i saw that piano room. I can see garden of Silence looks almost fully covered in the map, that assuming those transition rooms are actual transition rooms and not just placeholders. wondering where is that valefor room.
btw is this thread okay? i remember one with similar content being removed due to "spoiler" or something like that.

kamuiarikadooh! i totally forgot about that update! thanks for the reminder, however, nightmare mode seems to be something unlocked after the first experience of the game and i know IGA when it comes to hard modes or crazy mode if we are talking about castlevanias. i doubt enemy placement will be the only thing changed in nightmare mode. I can see other handicaps such as level restrictions or the formula for damage taken being modified to something absurd. i just hope it is not as enfuriating as crazy mode in Order of ecclesia or Curse of Darkness. while i loved the challenge i still hold some grudge to some of the madness they have to offer to the confident players... curse you Isaac. Pure Miriam i think the galleon is fine and it serves its purpose. its all fun and games until you reach vepar. i wonder if they are going to leave her/him like that in the final game. she looks hard for the inexperienced. as for the toads i am exagerating too much but it really annoys me for some reason, maybe its because im getting flashbacks of curse of the moon and the absolute panic i felt everytime i played solo Zangetsu so i just want to see them gone FOREVER. i will be okay if they leave the toads there as long as they add more enemies. i want to dodge rolling buers!!

As a die hard fan of Lord IGA and his work, Bloodstained is without any doubt a 10/10 game for me and im absolutely biased here but recently after watching the Gamespot gameplay i noticed one thing that left me absolutely unsatisfied. ENEMY PLACEMENT. this wouldn't be the first time i feel this way but the tower of the twin dragons gameplay crossed the line for me. 3 things i need to mention first 1. I AM fully aware that everything we see is NOT final and it can change in a number of ways in the final build of the game. 2. I have never played a Bloodstained demo before (ps4 backer) all footage shown here belongs to other people 3. YES. i like games when they are challenging and i fully understand not everyone likes to struggle and some prefer the games on easy mode. with that being said let us proceed to my concerns. Let's begin with galleon minerva and its most recent demonstration. the enemy placement seems to be the same as the beta backer demo we got 1 year ago. while the visuals have improved over 100x times and the environment feel better, many rooms are long and empty with 1 or no monsters at all. i like to think of the galleon as the introduction tutorial level of the game so thats my only guess of why it is so easy. the music is hype inducing. it is the beggining of a new journey and the enemies await, but do not worry, some of them are very slow and weak.
if we compare the introduction stage of the game to previous IGAvanias i am certain that Aria of sorrow, Dawn of sorrow and Symphony of the night would win. in Aria and SOTN you start slaying waves of zombies and mermans that won't stop coming at you and it is fun even if they never stop respawning. You take your time to swing your sword (or pocket knife) on a few of them. in Bloodstained, Mortes are slooow and you can even kill them before they spawn... Seamas are slow as hell too but they have other attacks (love when they jump at you). Dawn of sorrow is my favorite for this because it really makes you feel like Soma is no newcomer when it comes to slaying demons. the game throws axe knights, wolves, zombies, and a boss almost as soon as the game starts. Never stop being a badass Mr.cruz. But lets talk about the true first stage of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. THE CASTLE ENTRANCE. in my opinion this is enemy placement done right. there are multiple enemies, some of them quick and annoying (gieremund, bats) some others tricky and strong (outsiders, Sabnock). What i really like about the enemy placement in the entrance and in the garden of silence is the fact that you have to fight your way through. enemies are placed specifically to block your path and punish you for trying to avoid conflict. One thing that i have noticed in Bloodstained is that the game is really punishing. weak knockback, lots of damage taken, big hitboxes for enemy attacks. Most enemies are slow but they really hurt. Lets take a look at the tower of the twin dragons and how it manages enemy placement. inside of the tower: no problem outside of the tower: are you kidding me? im going to copy paste my comment from that other thread this one left me really dissapointed. is it because this is a demo with lowered difficulty so that our lovely journalists don't get killed in every room? is it that enemy placement for this area is not yet finished? the mystery. but seriously for such a big area (the outside of the towers) it was really boring to watch the player navigate the place without fighting his way to the top. also, toads and bees? why? i was expecting heavy armored knights and more discus lords (the guys that throw buers at you. they are hilarious) my guess is that the enemies for this demo are customized since the players would not be quite familiar with the platforming or are not given the option to have a personalized gameplay set yet (equipment, shards, other stuff) and placing enemies like those could become a true pain for the demo testers, that could easily take away a lot of time and become frustrating. we don't want that. i am here hoping the enemy placement for the final game will be different. am i the only one finding the enemy placement really weak? this is an action game right? i believe part of the action comes from slaying beasts and such but here i just couldn't feel that. to finish my wall of text i would like to ask 2 questions to our Lord Roberto also known as Angel-Corlux 1. do you know if the difficulty of the towers demo was intentionally lowered (regarding monster placement) 2. what are poison toads doing in a huge tower with no vegetation or anything resembling a place where toads can live?

Miriam's speed. okay, this is something that has never bothered me and i would never complain about such a stupid thing but in this level where the camera is zoomed out and evrything looks big its hard to ignore that Miriam does look really slow. im guessing the player will have access to a speed boost of some kind by the time this area can be entered so im not really worried. Items and skills will make her faster than Alucard. Her normal speed is as Alucard. We have tested it. Dashing were also visible in very early footage, something people rarely talk about, which I find odd. Zoomed out is needed for greater bosses, playing against a big boss and just see one toenail isn't very fun. Her speed is spot on, from first backer demo to the last. Exactly, and im 100% aware of it but how do you make people understand that? such speed options were not present in the current demo and i find that really awkward considering that has been the number 1 complain since the first demo and it still is. why not include the dash skill shown in the Trailer? i bet you anything it would have helped a lot. the camera zoom out is not problematic when fighting valac. but navigating a huge platforming section with the camera like that does make Miriam look heavy. both you and i and many others here have been following the development of this game and know pretty much everything shown so far but the newcomers, the random viewers and the people interested in this game probably doesn't know that those speed ups exist in the game. Sure, we can tell them how amazing this game is and that there is going to be this and that but will that be enough? haters gonna hate but how do you convince the other people?

that gamespot video... oh man theres just so much to say about such a small portion of the game. THE MUSIC, THE LEVEL DESIGN, THE VISUAL IMPROVEMENTS, the terrible player should i get used to these terrible gameplays showing lack of skill in every single video of the demo? my personal impressions and totally unbiased review. THE GOOD!!The music is easily the best 100/10. Gears of fortune was the track i was looking forward the most and now that i can finally listen to the full version of that glorious composition i can finally rest... or not quite since i still need full version of holy wisdom and finish the actual game. The tower of the twin Dragons. Simply amazing. i personally don't know how i could improve the level design. It looks very detailed altough im not really sure i like the look of those gargoyle-imp statues. Valac. it looks even better than the version revealed in the Nintendo direct. it looks fierce, challenging and really strong. i am here hoping my boy Valefor receives the special improvement treatment that valac got this time. THE BAD!!Or not really bad but it could use improvements.Miriam's speed. okay, this is something that has never bothered me and i would never complain about such a stupid thing but in this level where the camera is zoomed out and evrything looks big its hard to ignore that Miriam does look really slow. im guessing the player will have access to a speed boost of some kind by the time this area can be entered so im not really worried. Enemy Placement. this one left me really dissapointed. is it because this is a demo with lowered difficulty so that our lovely journalists don't get killed in every room? is it that enemy placement for this area is not yet finished? the mystery. but seriously for such a big area (the outside of the towers) it was really boring to watch the player navigate the place without fighting his way to the top. also, toads and bees? why? i was expecting heavy armored knights and more discus lords (the guys that throw buers at you, they are hilarious) my guess is that the enemies for this demo are customized since the players would not be quite familiar with the platforming or are not given the option to have a personalized gameplay set yet (equipment, shards, other stuff) and placing enemies like those could become a true pain for the demo testers, that could easily take away a lot of time and become frustrating. we don't want that. i am here hoping the enemy placement for the final game will be different. I just spoiled myself an important part of the game. do i regret it? hell no. ok maybe a little. THE SADI really apreciate the game previewers letting us watch the improvements of this amazing game but seriously i am still waiting for an actual metroidvania player, or even better: an igavania player to play the game like it should be played. the sad thing is that looking at things the game is most likely going receive mixed reviews and opinions with the first thing mentioned being Miriam's movement speed or the fact that this is not pixel art. i will be surprised if IGN gives this game anything higher than 7.5 and I expect a lot of bullshark and other stupid reviews. p.s: i have an absolute hate towards videogame journalists and reviewers so please do not mind my evident hate.

no, playing igavania games is better on Nintendo, playing 3ds, Nintendo switch, very comfy a PlayStation is a doppelganger pc. Bloodstained have style of Nintendo ds castlevania games, gameboy advance. Bloodstained is Nintendo philosophy Sony philosophy is a disaster videogames as castlevania lord of shadows, good movie, bad game. ah, okay. That is your extremely biased opinion mate. just a friendly reminder that Symphony of The night exists. btw you should seriously stop with the platform praising, that topic always ends in war and bloodshed.

vepar looks incredibly challenging now and its definitely harder than the one in the previous demo and im very happy about that. maybe a little bit to hard for newcomers tho.
