I certainly hope it turns into a franchise. I can't really answer most of those questions though, as I'd need to play the game first. I do think the soul system is the best (Dawn of Sorrow is my favorite) and I like the standard leveling system.

I still find it really weird that the Crissaegrim has become such a ubiquitous part of the SotN experience. It's such a low drop, and it only comes from one enemy! I can only speak for myself, but FINAL FANTASY IV DS almost singlehandedly murdered my patience for low drops. The pink tail is the only drop I've ever given up on. On the GBA version I had so many sirens saved up, I thought I might get a few of them. What a nightmare.

hahaha good one, th-- Actually waitaminute, what if that's one of the asynchronous online features? Sell shop/shard/item features? That would be classic. It brings back memories of leaving my Portrait of Ruin shop open, hoping someone would buy the mostly overpriced items in there.

What's with the 639x359 screenshots? They're much too small.

September update: "We've made huge progress on the dev tools, guys, now our planners (game designers) can polish this feature to a shine without waiting for new builds! Aren't you excited?" October update: "OK, so after weeks of testing, we think we've found the right balance between performance and memory consumption for this area. It's gonna look the same as before, but it'll run a lot better on the weaker hardware." November update: "Finally managed to fix that bug that was causing the game to crash when you beat the game in Boss Rush mode. It was only happening with a certain specific hardware and driver configuration, but it was just unacceptable. Also, automatic enemy placement has been incorporated into the dev tools, and the ai scripting features have also been significantly improved." This is what actual game development looks like: lots and lots of coding and testing to create an environment what will let you implement and fine tune all of the features that will ultimately show in the final product. But most people probably don't want to see that in an update, so... the devs go mum. Not only did I hope we'd have updates like that in general, but that they'd take the place of all these enemy design updates. I'd rather see content like that in game while I'm actually playing it, rather than beforehand.

That explanation has never sat well with me. I've never heard of a developer like WayForward being hired solely to fix bugs, nor does it make much sense.

So.. If they announce it in March, we might get it in March. But I think they will aim for a September release. 2019 is the year however, no change in that. I would say there's almost no chance they will announce the release date and release it within three weeks.

On the European PlayStation blog, they show a picture of Alucard's portrait, in which he's facing right. That only happened in the PSP version. In the original PS1 version he was facing left.

My favorite "indie Metroidvania" is Guacamelee. It would have been nice if it had weapons, but other than that, it had everything I wanted. Great game, and I need to play the second one.
I don't mind remakes or HD remasters, but if I've played the game already, I won't have much motivation to buy it again. Although if there's new content in the game, there's always a chance I'll buy it.
There aren't many games I'd want to remake, as I prefer completely new games. But The Guardian Legend is a game that I really love, and I do wonder how it would work if a sequel or even a remake was made today. I'd love to see another Shadow Hearts game, too.

If you guys are talking about the small view of the current section of the map in the top right hand corner, then yeah, it does have that. Personally, it's nowhere near enough to keep me from constantly pausing to check the whole map.

That was the one aspect I loved about having the games on the DS. While playing Symphony of the Night and the GBA games, I was constantly pausing the game to check the map (even after becoming very familiar with the games). It was great not needing to do that with the DS games. I'm not sure it'll work so well with the phone/Vita though, since you'd still have to look away from your TV to the other screen. But I'd absolutely love it if there's a way to make it really work.

I prefer a delayed game that a non-perfect one. Games nowdays have thousands of patches, day-one patches and fixes months (and even years!) after release because they are all rushed, it's ridiculous. That has been a worry of mine since the beginning. So many games these days get multiple patches and they still aren't in great shape. I just started Hob, and despite being on version 1.17, the game crashed twice within the first hour. I'm sure Bloodstained is going to end up with a few patches, but I really hope the game plays well enough and doesn't force me to consider waiting until the game is patched in order to play.

I'd imagine they can't do it digitally because of Sony. There are, possibly, servers specifically for the Vita. Some that hold the games and some that allow for online play to be possible. Perhaps others that perform other tasks aside from login authentication and security. So it would be Sony's call to stop spending money on these servers and this would be why digital release isn't a possibility. I know the topic creator already mentioned this, but I want to reaffirm that this makes no sense, especially considering you can still download/buy PSP games on the PSN.

Back in 2013 I started to notice some games were being labeled as "Metroidvania", which was really exciting since I obviously love Castlevania. Some of them just don't feel like Metroidvanias though, and none of them feel like Castlevania. Dead Cells is being labeled as a Metroidvania pretty much everywhere, but I've already seen some people say something along the lines of, "It's 90% Roguelite and 10% Metroidvania". I don't really like Roguelites, so there's a good chance I won't like the game even though so many people are calling it a Metroidvania. All you can really do is read about each game and figure out what it is yourself.

It was slow in Dawn of Sorrow, but certainly not in Aria of Sorrow. That's a huge reason as to why it was so good. Why did they change great sword animation? My guess is exactly because of the claimh solais. There wasn't much of a point in using anything else, as it was clearly the best weapon, so that was probably their way of balancing it.

The "Claimh Solais" from Aria of Sorrow seemed just right in my opinion. It was very powerful with a wide arc but was balanced by being somewhat slow and you needed to find a secret area to claim it. It was slow in Dawn of Sorrow, but certainly not in Aria of Sorrow. That's a huge reason as to why it was so good.

Personally, graphics are about as low on the list of priorities as it can get. I would take Curse of the Moon graphics and perfect Metroidvania gameplay over the concept art and poor gameplay every single time. However, that's clearly not how it works for many people. You're kidding yourself if you think graphics don't sell games, and that this isn't a vitally important subject. You see it all the time. Your "AAA" games always prioritize graphics. Anyone that thinks this type of talk is pure negativity, I suggest you stop and really think about the situation. These people are clearly submitting their feedback and trying to help. Being positive isn't going to result in a great game. Being honest certainly could though.

That reminds me, I hope there is a "super jump" with its own button, like the Hippogryph soul from Aria/Dawn of Sorrow. It's much more convenient than having to switch to the game's flying ability whenever you need to access an out of reach area.
