What about Miriam finding an old Ouija board? Think of the possibilities...
1) She may contact helpful spirits that provide clues on where to find rewards.
2) Such spirits could assist her to fight enemies.
3) Inadvertently, she may summon a variety of unfriendly ghosts that'll curse, haunt or lead her to bad luck.
4) Some evil apparitions may even attempt to kill or possess her.
5) Certain spirits only appear at the stroke of midnight, full moon or eclipse. These spirits may appear as bosses she's already killed?

In all honesty, I'm not an avid user of shields but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be in the game.
My experience with the shield primarily comes from playing Zelda and very rarely in Castlevania. This is because the dynamics in action, gameplay and growth branch out differently. The birds-eye view, enemies and surroundings in Zelda prompted me to play defensively, whereas, in Castlevania, the vast array of weapons and athleticism of the playable character always suited my needs since I'm an offensive player by nature. So, for example, the double-jump could get me out of a sticky situation more quickly than standing firm holding a shield.
That said, a shield does have its uses ... especially when space is limited and the need to reflect a seemingly unstoppable laser is thrust upon you. Shields are a fair medium in any form of combat but will need to be improved in Bloodstained to garner my interest.

Castledan and Crocodile debated their cases very well and were both right because I can relate to how they feel. They're just on a different wavelength which adds a touch of spice to the mix I've done a fair bit of farming in all the IGAvanias to some extent. While it was kinda enjoyable to stash enough cash to shell out on something like, for example, the Soul Eater Ring, once I reached the maximum limit of money earned, the farming element suddenly lost its appeal. This is because all of the money I earned just 'sat in the bank' so to speak but with nothing to really show for it apart from the fact that my character was very wealthy. In the back of my mind, I was always hoping that some kind of shady character (similar to Renon) would turn up at some point and give me the stark choice to sacrifice my wealth otherwise my need for greed would result in some kind of episode in hell.

How about a remake of Super Probotector? I absolutely loved that game back in the day and sat so long playing it that my arse nearly grew carrots!

The grid-style map suits me just fine because of the reasons what Cale mentioned in his post.
One thing I've often pondered over about a grid-style map is the idea of a lethal, instant-death enemy being visible on it that is roaming the castle. This would be similar to the scene in the film Alien where Dallas is down the shaft system with the creature catching him up and is seen as a bleeping orb on the screen. This could add a streak of tension to the adventure.

I clicked Nope. I don't care how long it takes. I'm just wishing for a terrific adventure that'll blow my socks off.
If I die before Bloodstained gets completed, then my ghost will take haunting to a whole new level.

Watched Beastmaster when I was a teenager (seen it 2 times) and recall being impressed with it. The animals are the stars of the film ... especially those adorable ferrets!
As for the witches being the best in any film, hmm ... that's debatable IMO. Whilst the Beastmaster witches were really creepy, repulsive and downright ugly, my favourite movie witch has to be the Grand High Witch from the film The Witches ... now she was truly hideous and vile to the core!
However, those Winged Devourers were the creatures that grabbed my attention. The scene where an escapee blunders into the wings of one of the monsters and gets digested to a pool of vomit and bits of bone was kinda alarming at the time.
Beastmaster 2 was a huge disappointment!

Another element that could be infused into Nightmare Mode is the lighting. Sounds stupid? Well, actually not. Here's what I'm getting at...
As we all know, Castlevania had candles, torches and light bulbs that were smashed to get hearts, money etc ... but the light never got dimmer! And so, in Nightmare Mode, if lights get accidentally/intentionally broken, logically, it's gonna get dark. Imagine fighting a boss in an area of the castle where there's lighting inside but with moonlight outside. Should all interior lights get damaged, you've only got eerie moonlight to fight in. But what if there's no moonlight? ... then fighting a boss will be an utter nightmare unless you've obtained an item (torch, glow crystals, flares, etc) that brings light.

One of my all-time favourite actors. Absolutely gutted that he's no longer with us. A supreme talent. Loved him as Hans Gruber, Prof Snape and Sheriff of Nottingham. He played another fine villain in Quigley Down Under (a very underrated western).
Yes, I'm another who thinks that there's a conspiracy behind cancer ... in that the cure was found decades ago!

Cale ... thanks for the pictures. The two bird images look wicked. The first looks dastardly, imposing and unforgiving. However, the second one is predominantly a mutant man with a nightmare of a beak. Still, both of them would make terrific foes. While horses have their place in many fantasy tales, the vast majority of them are peaceful, majestic animals and only a few are harbingers/omens of bad luck instead of being truly evil to the core. One theory I have with Bloodstained is if Miriam encounters a Unicorn with a very powerful crystal for a horn. This horn has tremendous magical capability or potential to oppose evil to those who obtain it. On the flip side, to obtain the horn, the unicorn must be slayed but killing it is an act of evil itself. I'm sure there could be a twist in the plot somewhere. My big issue is with lions. Most lions I see in fantasy art & illustration, often look bored, torpid or miserable and seldom fierce. Take the demons Buel and Marbas for instance, the former looks like he's recovering from a hangover and the latter is losing a game of Chess. Some lions even remind me of Bruce Forsyth and John Wayne! Of the two lion pictures that you posted, the lion in the bigger image is strong and intimidating (cheers) but the one in the small picture looks like he's sat on a whoopee cushion. Of the three animals mentioned, birds win hand over fist in my opinion.

Having observed these demons again, I think there's too much emphasis on birds, horses and lions for my liking. Some of the creatures look rather tame or appear to lack a scary edge. The ones that do appeal to me the most are Amy, Astaroth, Bael, Botis, Bune, Dantalion and Vassago.

Agree with most of the aforementioned ... particularly the repetitive copy/paste level design and using the stylus to seal boss fights in DoS (and breaking those damn ice blocks too).
Other issues I had with previous Igavanias were...
The ghosts. They were primarily in the form of small heads/skulls and all too easy to kill which, in my opinion, simply wasn't good enough.
Charlotte and Jonathan yelling together when they performed a Dual Crush spell in PoR. Cringeworthy!

Charlotte's "Well, not bad eh?"pose in Portrait of Ruin was a curious reason to press UP during the game if you got bored of smashing skeletons. It'd be nice if Miriam could strike a pose in similar fashion but with a bit more tease and a big weapon. Or am I just being smutty?

Looking at how some stained glass windows can depict certain moments of history or haunting images of strange people/beings, I was wondering if, perhaps, a power like Paranoia (ability to enter mirrors) could be used to enter stained glass windows? The thought of entering such a window and fending off something like a possessed version of Virgin Mary in prismatic radiance or battling a satanic creep in inky dimness could add another edge to Bloodstained.

There's a saying that goes "Anticipation of death is worse than death itself" ... that's the foreboding feeling I want to experience when exploring Bloodstained.
I remember playing Dawn of Sorrow for the first time and, as I ascended through the Demon Guest House, there was a weird sense of dread that the boss of this particular area was going to be different. There was such an odd diversity of enemies around that I didn't have the foggiest of what to expect when I located the boss door. So when the Puppet Master suddenly dropped from the ceiling like a giant four-legged spider with droning moans and rolling eyes, the feeling was total panic injected with a huge shot of creepiness. Of course, I failed a few times before I finally killed it and the satisfaction of prevailing was uplifting.
Symphony of the Night though, was one heck of an eerie game and the bosses were really nasty (Galamoth), creepy (Olrox) and, occasionally, gross like Beezlebub and Granfalloon. For me, encountering bosses like these lay at the core of Castlevania and I hope Bloodstained will have some terrifying, screen-filling bosses to crank up the poo-ya-pants meter.
With Bloodstained, I want to be enchanted by beautiful scenery, fascinated and teased by amorous but evil demons but, most of all, I want to be afraid and chilled to the bone.

Let's face it, death is the black curtain that separates the soul from the physical body...
So, to a very large extent, I agree with what Zechs mentioned about Miriam's crystal curse preventing her 'death'. Crystals have potential energy (strike a piezo crystal and it emits an electrical discharge). Therefore, her soul could be partly contained within her crystals (a bit like Voldermort's soul hidden in horcruxes from Harry Potter). Since her spirit is still mysteriously connected to crystals due to the curse, following so called 'death', she inadvertently performs an etheric projection and is wretchedly drawn to a crystal formation against her will before a grim incarnation or possession occurs. This means that her soul can never be free and many horrific and painful experiences (rather than death) are inevitable until the curse is lifted.
I'm feeling heartbroken just thinking about it. Poor Miriam! *breaks out into floods of tears*

I've always found it a bit disappointing when playable characters die in the same old manner (spray of blood). So, I think it's only logical and relevant that player characters should perish in a style that is related to the powers, spells or weapons associated with enemies (especially bosses).
Swords, knives, hammers, guns - 1) A generous spray of blood. 2) Body collapses with limbs falling off.
Fire - 1) Reduced to a charred statue. 2) Blazing away into a pile of ashes.
Chemical - 1) Dissolves into a pool of green sludge. 2) Withers into rotting emaciation. 3) Turns into a skeleton
Spells - 1) Atomized into a cloud of blood, dust or light. 2) Shattered into bloody pieces or chunks of ice. 3) Turned to stone or glass.
Lasers - 1) Obliterated to glowing smithereens. 2) Melts into a smoldering mess.
Of course, none of the above would be complete without a blood-curdling scream!

Rockstar Games to make a 3D Castlevania with the same vastness and attention to detail as GTA5. It'd be my dream game.
