I've made my stance on her character quite clear, if she turns out to be playable ... eh, I might give her a shot, but likely wouldn't all that often. Who don't want to play as her? Me At least you'd give it a try. It's all fine in my book. It's not like she would rapture the hearts of everyone anyway and I fully understand and accept that.

Actually such games from CSOTN to OoE but also Bloodstained are defined as Igavanias.
That one thought was easy for me to define from the start. I want Bloodstained to use the same RPG elements than in other works, yet as far as possible from the series it takes its roots from.
We do have the chance to go on a fresh start. Why copy tropes (especially plot, character motives, personalities, mechanics...), when we can try completely original ones that will (I hope) make the most doubtful spirits join our cause?
In sum, please no copycat. That would be the worst choice around.

Fate of Goofball is lost then? Would he be in the game as a painting and statue then? Or a npc? Goofball plushie would be my first buy, after the giant game package. At least he can help me fight off the cats when they enter my room screaming for more food when I just gave them food. I'd picture you holding a goofball plushie and approaching it towards your cats, making weird noises and shaking it violently. *Evil laugh* That could really work.

I don't know about you all, but I'd rather play as any character of any gender if the game's plot and mechanics are superb.
I had the same level of fun incarnating Carl Johnson in GTA SA but also Lightning in Lightning Returns (the latter I resumed today). It would really be a matter of character build after all, as I'd prefer a character with more survivability. That said, I do play as all classes in MMOs but in a PvE perspective only (I don't play on a competitive level).
I wonder if I said it before, but I guess that the views some have on certain characters is tied to the image they'd give. If they're just made for charming people and not much else, they'll usually be dissed by some, defended by others. It's only natural, very much a societal thing.
Usually, the characters are imposed once you buy a game. Polls and community forums like this one might have an impact on how the game will be. In the end, I don't bother too much speculating, since the developers have the final word on this. I just hope the best choices are taken then (especially when it's about developers who want to fill great expectations) and once again, I have no worries right now.

I played my XBox 360 today, after long months of inactivity. I tried Lost Planet... Man, this game is extremely compelling. The time limit is quite annoying, though. I also resumed Lightning Returns: FF XIII, finally got rid of Zomok, Dreadnought and Cyclops, along with their Omega incarnations. I don't know when I'll feel like going to the last dungeon. Too much free days left of doing nothing, since I did all quests already, be them the board ones or the NPC ones. I also got rid of all other monsters and their Omega forms, except those you can't eliminate for good. So much to do on so many games.

It is my hope that the game's story gets out from under Ecclesia's shadow. It might be easier to do than it looks, Since it sounds like Gebel's castle is a means to an end, not the end itself. The original reason Gebel summoned the Castle was out of a desire to give Miriam a new home. Now, as Gebel doesn't seem to recall why he did it, the Castle is apparently the means by which Demons enter the natural world. "Hi Miriam, this castle is your new home. I hope it pleases you. It's really spacious and you'll have your own room, somewhere. Oh and don't mind the little catdoor-like portal, it's for our demon friends... Never mind. Haha."

A hit? It's rated rather well on the net (it's on PS3, Xbox 360 and Steam). Some would say it's really weird. It was very niche, given it's a mix of heavy metal tropes and a journey to Hell. It sure made waves in terms of uniqueness. I've never played it, so I can't say more than this.

Lestaroth i also think that not adding them all would lose the potential designs. But as i said up there, it would also make the whole voting process meaningless. As an additional information, i saw some people talking about how many familiars the game could have and implying that maybe it wouldn't be much. It really depends on what system you use. For the record, on all Igavanias: CASTLEVANIA: SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT: 5 familiars (7 on japanese version*): Bat, Demon, Faerie, Ghost, Sword, Nose Demon*, Fairy* CASTLEVANIA: ARIA OF SORROW: 2* familiars: Alastor, Imp *(some other souls may be considered familiars by players, but officially, those are the only familiars in the game). CASTLEVANIA: DAWN OF SORROW: 9 familiars: Alastor, Bat, Corpseweed, Gaibon, Great Armor, Harpy, Mini Devil, Needles, Quetzalcoatl. CASTLEVANIA: CURSE OF DARKNESS: 6 types of familiars (called I.D. Innocent Devils) : Fairy, Battle, Bird, Mage, Devil and Pumpkin. Each familiar having several different forms, with a total of 51 familiar forms. CASTLEVANIA: PORTRAIT OF RUIN: 2 familiars: summon crow and summon ghost. (They act like familiars). Considering the past record, Castlevanias never had a lot of familiars. If Bloodstained follows the same path, AND if all four designs were added, there wouldn't be a lot of room for new familiars... BUT Bloodstained has a shard type specific for familiars. That makes me think the game will try to go further than what past Igavanias did. Yes, a small enough number of them will make them significant, you can deduce that the inverse is true (reminding me of the insanely big roster of characters in the Suikoden series but also Chrono Cross. This made some totally forgettable). Who knows, a whole army of them would be fun, but I think devs got a lot to do with monsters, castle design and equipment. That said, it's just possible a big majority of them would be randomly "tamed" monsters.

Yes Croc, there was a Xena game on PS1, full of polygonal glory. I don't know how good the game was, though. Eh? there was a PS2 one too?
Anyway, I begin to understand what you meant there, Redogan. I think it is not about incarnating the character and feel close to it or not, but rather interacting with the world as him/her/it and the subsequent reflection on such in-game acts.
"Would I do it in reality? Is that really what the game wants me to do? Did developers go a bit too far on this one?" These are sentences I ask myself when I play GTA SA and I am asked to rob a house or kill someone. That said, they're more tied to morality of a character versus mine. After that little train of thought, I resume like if nothing much happened. (That said, I would never touch a game which sole purpose is to massacre everyone, even and especially innocents).
As for incarnating female characters including the sexy ones, I have nothing to fear or be ashamed about (I don't know how are your feelings on that). I even play as female characters in my MMO. I am not roleplaying in any way though and especially not wishing to scam others using that. There are great games, even if boasting they have "plenty of eye candy" (Dead or Alive" anyone? It's a fine series of fighting games, esp' the 5th), are legitimate in their own right. Give those a chance, maybe?
That said, if people around you check what games you usually play or if you totally feel uncomfortable watching glamorous and suggestive poses from less conservative characters, of course you have full legitimacy to express yourself so.
Sometimes I feel that Dominique was designed so to cater to a category of people. Will it impact anything in the game? I sincerely doubt so. That is also why I would like her to be in game, in playable form (and it's not the reason why I voted no for Alfred and Anne as for me, the former seems more fit to be an antagonist. The latter should not be sent to the battlefield or she will not last long at all there.) Miriam, Zangetsu and Dominique would be my picks as playable characters. One seeking a way to cure her life-threatening ailment and most probably try to save Gebel in the process, and the two others being pro-demon hunters, with their own culture, approach and methods of extermination.

It would be great if they snapped from their highly destructive trance and wished to revive their franchises to try to regain reputation, a bit like what Capcom is doing right now. That said, I have doubts on it and I am absolutely not hyped on it. Only time will tell if they were serious or not. On top of that, if they revive them to bury them even faster, it would then be better for them to not touch anything. My questions are: - When did the BS happen and how?
- How come they took so long to realize how wrong their perspectives are?
- Will they be able to get reputation back with a new team if ever, after making their legendary names leave the company?
- Do they know how much their franchises are valued to the eyes old-school players (can they see what's at stake, will they do their best to not mess up further)?

Hiya Pure Miriam and thanks for summoning me! It is always a delight to respond to your threads. ...So the Armor familiar is the one who won, indeed. I like the idea of a living armor coming from another dimension to launch a few stabs then going back home... I would have voted for that one as well. The fairy ultimately makes me think of the ones in CSOTN, probably with the same role, unless she distracts enemies or uses fairy dust to annoy them. The skeleton is a direct reference to Death, most probably additional hits/dark spells (including curse and evil souls). Goofball would be like CSOTN's imp, paralyzing the enemy so you could beat them easier. It's a bit sad there was a poll in the first place after all, since that suggests the ones that lost will not fill that role (and that others are being created right now). Like the others said, they still can exist in-game even if not as familiars. NPCs, icons, drawings/paintings, etc. could be their new form. I'd prefer for Miriam to be able to communicate with them... Maybe a village of familiars in a demon world (akin to FF IV)? It would be a waste of unique designs otherwise, don't you agree? As for DLC... if the price is low, I would say why not. I'd prefer an absolutely full game from the start, though.

The problem I have as I stated is there's no other way to do a second castle where it won't feel like repeating the same thing you just did. SOTN's was unique because at least the layout felt completely different as it was flipped on it's head. Any other idea would essentially be going into the same kind of castle but with a special visual effect tacked on. That's my only concern. For me it's like...either come up with something that really changes your trek through the castle or just focus on doing ONE great castle. Hell, if the castle is well designed it won't bother me one bit if there's no extra area. The brand new enemies and music added into the mix made the inverted castle more unique than just a simple flip. Considering how ambitious this game is, I'm really sure that we won't leave the game without being satisfied. Either it will be some unique variation of the castle they are currently building, or simply the biggest castle to end all castles. Every Igavania style Castlevania delivered in one way or another. Bringing it all to the big screen is what I'm most happy about. The GBA and DS games were good, but I had always wished it would go back to the TV. Way too much of Final Toccata, though. I really wished to rush towards the Final Boss just bec ause of that.
I'm still very intrigued on what sort of elements we could get in Gebel's Castle (and about nothing was unveiled regarding that yet, besides the procedural generation update bit)

Using shop stocks (that are meant to be sold) on the battlefield is not only unethical, but broken too. In that case, Anne would go "oh, I'll just gather max out all of the goods I can and go fight". Bloodstained is not a RPG parody.
Besides, if she were to be fighting, Dominique would be taking the shopkeeper's role. There is a business to maintain. (of course the inverse is true as well)

1) If she is to be a playable character, I'd like her to use all sorts of weapon types she normally has in her shop (basic versions, low grade) but be skilled with them, while not being OP. This until she would find more powerful ones. Probably trained by Dominique in case of a (new?) monster invasion in the village. As for magic powers, I don't want a Maria from Rondo of Blood 2.0. 2) Nah, she will be competent when it comes to managing the shop, especially if she made a promise to their parents before the latter died. Willpower can really make miracles. A different set of items? Discounts? I'm not too keen on this, unless you bring her special items she would need or items she lost and thought never seeing again. 3) Shopkeepers always need materials and other personal items. In sum, quests could fit, even if that concept has been overused (see answer 2). And now for the killer question! Playable? Maybe if she is not a bonus character, like Galamoth defined it (she would need a motive). But in the end, would you really want her to go against demons and Gebel and so on? Maria's chances in Rondo seemed to be minuscule, but she got the powers of the four cardinal beasts and has magic power. Is Anna made of the same mold? I am quite doubtful on it. She'd better leave it to the professional demon-killers. She is perfect in a support role. Why send her to the battlefield?

Hey Dev, we discussed about mages a few times in the Bloodstained channel.
You've then justly felt that in Portrait of Ruin, things were made so Jonathan was favored over Charlotte. A poll over this, on who is used as the main character could be interesting.
Charlotte, no matter how magically strong she is, requests some time to prepare her spells, also known as channeling time. It's a bit like wondering who fully used the spells in CSOTN. Different approaches for the same goal.
Myself I am used to slash creatures with a sword (most usually a hit and run tactic)... the same choice occurs in RPGs unless I am sure I will never run out of MP. Nothing is worse than having casting interrupted by a monster attack.
There is also that idea that melee and ranged always was more common than magic in the classic CV games. Just ask the Belmonts regarding it.

Absolute worst case scenario:
Alfred manages to get the book and gets rid of Gebel (or uses him as a puppet). Gebel can't save Miriam because of this. Miriam's curse expands and she is fully doomed, no one can stop her until she can't go on anymore (on a rampage?).

Thanks!
Well, indeed that search for the mystical book was not for the greater good as in him gone to claim it to destroy it, but rather fueled by an insatiable hunger for more power.
This appearence of a humble man wearing clothes in tatters, fighting for the future is a lie! Mark my words. ^^
