I'm genuinely surprised there is still so much negative hostility in regards to Bloodstained being involved on a Nintendo Console. The fact that someone on these boards with an FE character avatar is all for not having a WiiU or NS version of Bloodstained? Talk about hypocrisy. It seems to me people just dont think it will do well on Nintendo simply because its a fad to say so. Initially i wasn't sure how I felt about the Wii U being abandoned for the NS, but after learning more about the switch, and the acquisition of my new job, I feel a Switch port would be ideal. But i still think the best solution would be to just have Bloodstained be released on both, with the WiiU version being a digital download only title. With all the support I see online for the NS, from EA, to Activision, I believe that it can and will work out well enough. We'll just have to wait and see. Allow me to clarify my position, I'm happy to do so if it seemed like I was simply demanding Nintendo get no support from us ever. I used to be a huge Nintendo fan (Fire Emblem being my #1 franchise from them obviously), but the Wii U has done so poorly I simply would consider it a bad business decision for Inti to spend what could be a considerable sum porting it to the console, especially since the Wii U wont even be in production anymore by the time Bloodstained is released. As for the Switch? I honestly hope it does well, and if it does, I'd certainly support Inti porting Bloodstained to it. I've not said I don't think Nintendo should ever get the game ever, simply that I don't know if making it a Launch title for the Switch before the system has a chance to prove its going to be a success. Making Bloodstained a Launch title for the Switch simply feels, to me, like a dangerous gamble. If the Switch sells very well and Bloodstained was part of that Launch it would be a great thing. But after the failure of the Wii U and general displeasure people have had with Nintendo regarding their public policies (such as Youtube, for one example) and their recent perplexing lack of 3rd party support, I simply cant say I think the Switch is going to be a big hit for absolute certain, and if it sold poorly at Launch and Inti had already ported Bloodstained to it, we could be looking at a major loss for a game and creator that can't afford it. I dont think I'm being a hypocrite here, I'm simply very worried about Bloodstaind's future, and the current state of Nintendo has me worried. All I was saying is that I think it would be a better idea to wait and see with the Switch, and port Bloodstained to it if the console has a good Launch instead of gambling on the Launch and porting it early.

Alrighty, I can get behind this topic:
Weapons: -Nebula. This weapon was a cool addition in Portrait: an enchanted Chain with enormous range that had great tracking. -Legendary Weapons. A cool idea in many IGA games is having many of the best weapons in each category be actual weapons from myth: Caladbolg being a powerful sword, Gungir a powerful spear, etc. -Boot weapons that give Miriam stronger kicks, or even unique kick attacks.
Armor: -Vampire Armor: I'd love a set of armor that looks like a Dark Cloak or Victorian Feminine Suit that has an effect such as "Recover Health when striking living enemies", just something that hints at the vampire roots of the series. -"Map Armor". Armor that gets better as you fill in the map is a classic concept from IGA's games, and I'd love to see it return. -"Risk/Reward". A set of gear that boosts your stats tremendously but carries a huge risk, such as instant death upon taking any damage. The Death Rings from OoE are the idea here.

I can't think of a specific article to link but I do believe, especially around the time Mario Maker was out, that a map editor was already stated to not be possible. Its a fun idea but the resources just aren't there.

I can certainly agree with Nyahahaha on that point, and I hadn't thought of it. Inti could easily, and correctly, shift a lot of the negativity towards Nintendo for ceasing support of the console long before B-Staind was ready. Its not IGA's style and I dont think he'd do that, but the point does stand that Nintendo should take most of the heat.
"Why did you cut the Wii U version that we funded in the KS?" "Because Nintendo cut the console short before we'd even gotten started on the port"
That's totally fair. Inti would be at a net loss to port the game to a dead console that isnt even in production anymore and has no support.

Lets talk about "Third Party Support" for the Switch shall we?
Remember the Capcom 5? The 5 games Capcom was going to make exclusive for the Gamecube to revitalize a failing console? Of those 5 games: -3 of them: Resident Evil 4, Killer 7 and Viewtiful Joe were ALL ported to the PS2 despite the exclusivity promise and have continued to be ported to this day, with RE4 in particular having 11 console ports at time or writing thanks to the recent re-release of the HD remaster for PS4/Xbone -Dead Phoenix never even relesaed -PNO3 was the only game that actually remained an exclusive and was panned universally
Remember how exciting it was to see Skyrim in that Switch Trailer? Bethesda came out right after that just to say it wasn't actually confirmed to be in development for the Switch.
Third Party promises of support are utterly meaningless until we see an actual list of games confirmed to release on the console. All Nintendo has right now is a snappy trailer of another console with a gimmick and a promise that they'll do better this time, which frankly means absolutely nothing in the modern gaming industry. I don't personally like the idea of leaving Nintendo utterly out in the cold due to the reprucusions it could have on IGA's reputation but its just so risky from a business standpoint.

This is a very delicate topic.
On the one hand, you could argue that there is a 'moral obligation' to release the Wii U version, on the grounds of it being a Stretch Goal which most certainly attracted people to back. Those people expect the version they paid for, and to cancel the Wii U version would basically be telling those backers "you don't matter, there arent enough potential buyers to justify keeping our promise, please understand, but you wont be getting what you helped fund."
But, now its time to get, admittedly, cold and practical about it. The Wii U is already, 2 years before Bloodstaind's launch, dead in the water with a new console on the way to replace it before the game even comes out. Even if the Switch were not on the way, the Wii U was a mess of poor communication and bad decisions. Not even a new Smash Brothers game and a forthcoming Zelda game had a hope of saving it. Nintendo failed HARD with the Wii U. I consider the mere thought of a port for the system to be a bad idea, the system just doesn't have enough owners to make the port worth it. I'd argue the same for the Vita, but that version seems to be safe, so lets stick with the topic at hand.
At this point, I think the team's best option is to cut the Wii U version, and offer full refunds to people who cannot switch to something besides the Wii U. The system is dead, and wasting money on a port that almost certainly would not sell well is bad for the game itself, and IGA's future with the franchise and his career as a whole. It might blemish his reputation a bit, but plenty of companies have survived cancelling ports before (Remember when MKX was supposed to release on 360/PS3? That game cut those ports wisely and still did fine).
I dont think swapping to the Switch is a good idea right off hand either. There's no telling how well the system will do, since Nintendo has done such a good job of slapping its fandom over the last handful of years. I'd say, honestly, to cut Nintendo console support altogether and port it to the Switch later on if the Console proves itself. The 3DS minigame is already safe, since the 3DS was a massive success.

I mean I dont think IGA is wrong at all, the Wii U is on the way out, its trailing way behind its competitors, Nintendo really fell on its face with the system and are rushing for a second shot. Backing out of the Wii U port on the grounds that the console wont even be relevant by 2018 is, strictly speaking, smart. Especially since the Wii U probably WONT be relevant in another 2 years, its barely worth it now. Not even Smash Brothers saved the thing.
HOWEVER, there are people who backed this game because it was coming to Wii U, those people expect and deserve either the game they funded, or to have their funding returned. Its really that simple.

That entrance hall is absolutely AMAZING. All those cool arches and lighting effects just made me feel warm and fuzzy.
But...505 games? The guys that shoved Payday 2 full of microtransactions until the creators bought it from them and removed them? Iv'e heard very little positive about them lately, and until we find out just what capacity they are involved, consider me very nervous.

But what is the point of throwing in mechanics you don't need? None of Alucard's spells were very good, so throwing out the inputs to do them was such a waste of time. You could clear the entire game without ever even knowing the game has a magic system, and even if you did know, maybe 2 spells were somewhat useful, like Soul Steal. Sure, Dark Metamorphosis was cool from a thematic standpoint but is it too much to ask that the effect of a spell be, well, effective? ESPECIALLY in Bloodstained, where I can just press 1 button to use a spell? Why should I have to use a multi-input command to use Dark Metamorphosis when the game's primary system should simply having me press the Right Trigger to activate it?
Almost every time I go back to SOTN I completely ignore the spell system, and I don't like that you can forget it even exists. I consider it a genuine flaw with the game that all these thematic vampire spells can just be ignored or used entirely "for cool factor". The only thing I give it, is that in SOTN it worked better because Alucard didn't have the Soul Dominance or Glyph Systems, so the spells added a lot more than the base melee and subweapons (on paper at least) But Bloodstained? A game that already has the most expansive magic system the franchise has ever seen? Brand new directional input spells and a firearm+ammunition system that have never been seen in IGA's games before? Do we really need MORE?
If we get multi-input magic on top of the Shard spell system and the weapon combat, at LEAST do something to make them noticeably different from anything in the Shard system. Give me a GOOD reason to input a Hadoken command.

My reception to the return of command inputs was not very positive I have to say, though there are a lot of ways this could go and I'll outline my thoughts on each.
1. Special Command spells on top of the Shard System. This is the one I'm the most adverse too. There's just so little I could see working as an additional command that isnt just a shard, and it makes me fearful of "feature overload". Now, if the commands were explicitly for big badass ultimate moves, and not basic spells, I would not be adverse to that. But don't tell me to make a Hadoken for a fireball. Just make that a bullet shard and be done with it. I know some people want as many spells on hand as conceivably possible, but I'm not one of them.
2. The Special Commands are not separate, and there are simply powerful shards that require inputs to use. I could see this working just fine, and would not have a problem with them. If I equip Gebel's shard and input a command to use his big ultimate move, that would be cool.
3. The Special Inputs are for weapon moves, not spells at all. Again, I would not be adverse to having a simple command execution for say, a huge greatsword slam, or a cool AOE whip spin. That would add a fun new dimension to the core combat without destroying it like a full combo system would.
4. They take a page from Ricther and Jonathan, giving Miriam command-input martial moves. If they want to give us strong boot-options and commands to turn Miriam into a Gothic Lolita Kenshiro, I'm all on board for that.
Above all else I want them to actually be useful and strong. I'm just not on board with the idea of "having Tetra Spirit just to have is fine because its cool".

That does beg the question of what the other slot will be used for, if not to give us dual-wielding or shields. Perhaps a subweapon system? Its hard to even wonder what it could be if not a weapon or shield. It does dash some of the ideas we were having: like going full Bloodborne with a Firearm and single-handed weapon. But then, that's the danger when we start throwing out more and more ideas as to what COULD happen. That's always a fear I have in the back of my mind when both myself and others start throwing out these crazy ideas. That fear of course being that the game we're imagining will not line up with what we get.
The Bloodstained fandom seems more level headed than most so its not AS big a fear, but you still get these moments of "hey there's another slot, it's gotta be a dual-wielding system!" Then the dev reveals there is no duel-wielding and you get disappointing. I try not to speculate too much to avoid this exact scenario. I cant be dissapointed in the lack of something if I never considered it a possibility to begin with,
I'm not as worried about the responses to "how will you meet the fan demand". Humble responses like that are so very IGA. We still have to remember that only a year ago he was a man out on his own in a very scary situation where his gamble could have led to the total collapse of his family's livelyhood. No doubt he's still just so amazed and grateful that his risk was worth it.
Otherwise, a thoroughly excellent read! I really appreciate the effort that clearly went into this interview.

btw, anyone know if Michiru san will be working on 8 bit music for the prequel minigame as well? That'd be epic. Per the KS page and updates it was stated that there will be 6 stages with an 8-bit song for each with Yamane, Yamada and Virt composing 2 each in reference to Classic Mode. As per the prequel, I dont believe anything has been said regarding that project's music, but I also dont find it likely that they'd hire another composer just for the prequel.

While we've heard 3 of these, I still like seeing Yamane's thoughts on them. Holy Wisdom was a real surprise. Its that mix of foreboding and catchy that drew me into LoI's and CoD's soundtracks (the track reminds me of Ghostly Theatre thanks to that wonderfully eerie soprano vocal). Normally I hit up some of the game's tracks on youtube to enjoy updates to the maximum, but that's hardly necessary today! This is REALLY shaping up to be a great soundtrack, and I'm very glad i pledged enough to get a CD! And of course, a Happy Birthday to Yamane-san! Attachments:

If there is one thing I want IGA and the staff to know, its that the fanbase by and large is taking this news with grace. There's no need for IGA and the team to feel guilty, and I hope that Mana can let them know! I'd hate for them to be feeling worried about a backlash.

To put it all out there, Japan has never cared all that much about Metroid, its significantly more popular in America. Americans are the ones who want more Metroid characters in Smash, they're the ones who want more Metroid games and most importantly, Americans were the ones outraged at the character assassination that was Other M. And, well, Nintendo isnt exactly well known for really considering their American Fanbase. I would have been surprised it Nintendo actually HAD done something for Metroid's 25th anniversary. They just never cared that strongly about it.

An excellent point: they let us know MONTHS in advance that they knew they couldn't make the initial release date, not right before launch.
That being said, with an additional year being added on I wonder how much content will be left out of the staggered release or if that's been abandoned.
