I was just creating the thread myself, you beat me to it!
Anyway I think we all expected this to happen: the game ended up being so much bigger than the team ever dreamed of when they launched a year and a half ago and gave us the initial March 2017 date. I have no problem with the team taking the time they need to make sure the game is as good as it should be on launch.

I have to go with Time Manipulation. The possibilities are endless. And I'd be contracted to yell ZA WARUDO every time I use the power. (warning, Spoilers for Part 3 of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)

I don't think comparing a professional company to the hacks that release cheap crap on Steam is really fair. In all likelihood this game will be like Mighty Gunvolt: an 8-bit game, but I also trust IGA and Inti to make it a GOOD 8-bit game, with professional spritework and chiptune music. I expect the team to craft the prequel with an 8-bit visual style and quality to scratch an itch that IGA and his team know how to scratch.
To be blunt, I honestly think that expecting the free prequel to have spritework and graphics comparable to some of the most highly detailed 2D games of all time is setting expectations far too high. If the prequel looks and sounds as good as something like Shovel Knight, or, as has been suggested, a deliberate mimicking of the NES Castlevania games I'd be overjoyed. I'd be flabbergasted if it looked as good as SCIV or Rondo.
I'm sorry to get so direct, but I just don't think tossing aside a professional team's design choices because sleezy hacks are releasing graphically bad shovelware on Steam/GoG/etc. in the name of "being retro" is the right way to look at it.

I rather enjoyed Portrait and Ecclesia's quests, so lets see:
1. I'd agree Bloodstained might not even NEED a system like this, but exchanges between her and the quest giver(s) could nicely flesh out the characters. It'd be funny if Miriam gets increasingly exasperated by the whole affair and finally looses it when the final quest turns out to be absurd. Plus, having mini-goals behind exploration has always been good by me.
2. If Zangestsu is on friendly terms with Miriam I could see him giving her missions to test/train her. Making Johaness the quest giver AND shopkeeper would be the easiest solution but I'd rather 2 different characters do this.
3. I think Portrait would be the model to follow here: finding certain items, doing special moves, killing a special monster etc. Though I'd want to avoid stuff like "Kill 10 Buers", thats just the most generic MMO thing ever
4. I think quests should give gear and crafting elements, but not shards.
5. I don't know about random/infinite quests. Games like this, I feel, really bank on "I finished it" and having some penultimate quest, so I feel like having quests never end would crimp that feeling.
Side note: I'm imagining a cool parallel between Zangetsu and Wind/Eric from Portrait. In PoR, one of the last quests had Eric give you the Alucard Spear. I think it'd be cool if Zangetsu were the quest giver, and his last one is that he gives you his Katana, and BOOM, that's how you get the uber Backer Katana.

I'm curious: did they specifically say that it will be in a retro sprite style? Because honestly, I'm downright sick of all these endless lists of indie games coming out with "retro" 8 and 16 bit graphics. At this point we're getting like 20 games a month in that style. It's waaaaaay beyond the point of being "retro," "cool," or "unique" and flat out to the point of simply being too lazy to bother making things look good. Especially when you consider that there is already going to be a retro portion of the castle in the main game, I would much, MUCH rather see them develop a unique style and look to the prequel game rather than specifically limit themselves to an 8, 16, or 32-bit style to simply grab a faux-"retro" feel. That would be the only way it could actually stand out in the endless stream of indie games coming out these days and would also allow the game to have appeal beyond just nostalgic look. It would help make it more timeless. If it absolutely had (and I do mean, really absolutely positively HAD) to look like a CV game, I would hope for it to look like Harmony of Despair. An 8, 16, or 32 bit game would honestly just be disappointing. The KS page confirms it will be a 2D, pixel based retro game. Also, Harmony of Despair is a 32 bit game made of sprites and environments from other 32 bit games, so I'm not at all sure what you were trying to get at regarding HoD having some kind of alternate visual style.

Unfortunately that was a grace period, which I'm fairly certain passed weeks ago. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you missed the entire window a long time ago.

I went for 16-bit. I love the visuals in SCIV and Rondo, and I think Bloodlines was also 16-bit. I think it feels nice and retro without going overboard. I'm also betting its just safer to assume the mini-game wont have the budget for SOTN level visuals.
I'm willing to bet the prequel game and the "Retro Level" in the main game will have the same visuals, and I recall them mentioning the retro level would likely be 8 or 16-bit.

dragonkd The Jojo fandom always shows up at some point! "I will be the one to judge you! WITH MY FAMILIAR!" It helps IGA himself is a Jojo fan and has included several references to the franchise, including: -The Stone Mask appears in several games as headgear -Juste shouts ORAORAORAORA like Jotaro when using the Fist subweapon -Soma gets a Soul very much like a Stand, and I think it also shouts ORAORORAORA -A bonus boss in Portrait is a vampire that stops time and throws knives. That's probably not even all of them. Attachments:

I don't have a way to put any high quality pics, but I have: -A collection of dragons, including snow globes, pewter figures and even a rather large carved candle -A shelf of Godzilla figures, which I hope to expand upon once I'm not in-between jobs. They're putting out a REALLY nice one I want next month. I also have 19 of the films on DVD, in addition to the complete animated series from the early 2000's. If my signature wasn't a big enough hint, yeah, I LOVE Godzilla, have since I was very little. Attachments:

I do hope we get some silly food items if nothing else. Finding things like Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Pizza centuries before they existed was always one of the smaller, more lighthearted touches I loved.

the Death Rings on OoE accomplished the same thing, and its a very fun way to play from time to time. I'd be down for a huge risk/reward item to shake things up. Miriam seems to really favor headbands and circlets, so maybe some kind of Skull Circlet that spikes her offenses but gives a chance for insta-death any time she gets hit would be a cool option.

If it were just brewing up healing items I'd find that more agreeable, so long as you don't NEED to do it. I think OoE handled it well with Aeon, the village chef. You'd bring him ingredients and he'd give you powerful healing items. It might be a fun little aside/addition to crafting but I'd really start to get worried about feature-creep. There is such a thing as "too many mechanics/systems".
