I think the completionist will have plenty to work at in Bloodstained, even if they complete the game fairly easily theres other modes. At the moment i'm trying to complete Aria of Sorrow (yet again) but for added challenge i'm doing the bare minimum of leveling and only using basic equipment. In this way i can keep it a fresh play experience despite the fact i've completed AoS many times before.
In my experience self regulation of the difficulty curve in this way is one of the funnest things you can do with a Castlevainia game I'll probably do a similar thing for Bloodstained when i've finished the game proper. When i'm done with AoS i think i'm gonna dust of my old cartridge of Bloodlines and give that another playthrough (Sega is set up in my daughter's bedroom so i can just invade her space for a bit).

Awesome post CastleDan I agree with your points about AoS vs DoS but have you considered that the use of procedural generation may actually reduce the amount of repeated textures in Bloodstained. if the backgrounds are generated within certain parameters then it potentially allows for more variation within similar themes and could reduce the re-use of textures.

I completely understand CastleDan's concerns but i don't think its a crime to let the CPU do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the backgrounds while the devs get on with less time consuming things but i do agree with him to an extent, we don't want the castle to feel sterile. I also don't think IGA would let this happen, it's obvious that he cares so much about this project. So i think they'll let the procedural algorithm make rooms or assets or both, then they'll look at what the computer has created and if its done a shitty job they will correct it. I think its still going to have the human touch in this way so i'm not too worried - i know from experience that its a real pain in the ass creating game assets by hand it can take HOURS so i see the necessity for this approach. So far rooms look pretty good to me and IGA has higher standards than most of us.

Meh, if its not Skullgirls 2 i'm not interested (art style is still nice tho).
(and by Skullgirls 2 i mean an expanded character roster featuring the guys that didn't get in, NOT a separate game!)

It seems logical to me to offer the Wii U Backers an alternative perhaps exchange for Steam Key or GOG version, maybe offer NX port as an alternative because by the time 2018 rolls around the Wii U will be long dead. As a result any Wii U copies of Bloodstained that get produced will not sell because no-one will be buying games for that system then. It seems a waste of IGA's efforts to port a game to a dead system but i understand that promises have been made so perhaps by way of apology Wii U backers could get a little something extra as well as an alternative of their choice - maybe some exclusive Bloodstained merch or something, a cool t-shirt always goes down well and might soften the blow a little bit.

Spent the day playing a card game called 7 Wonders. It's kind of a city management game but i'm not sure how balanced the game mechanics are as each civilisation has a different gameplay style.

@ JeffCross i dont think this fits very well into an IGAvainia game, (it's really more of a rogue-like thing; think ADoM) but i do think food items could add/remove status effects (positive and negative) depending on what dish they are or which combination of ingredients the player has used to create the food item

Dr. Stuart Ashen talking about kickstarter stuff in general (& Bloodstained), mentions an interesting sounding movie which he'll be acting in if its funded.

I love them all, but personally Bloodlines has the best music here, they all have their charms (particularly I & II) but Bloodlines showed what the Megadrive's sound-chip was really capable of.

Everyone seems to like SOTN's opening the best here and yeah the music is cool & atmospheric. I like POR's because its got a funky vibe to it. But for me my Fave has easily gotta be AOS's castle opening; it can ear-worm its way into my head for days (but thats probably because i played the hell out of that game, then i played it again) and its both atmospheric and fast paced. When it comes to ROTN's (possible) castle opening its a very high-octane track and could work well if the action is frantic from the start.
EDIT: If its Luxurious Overture we're talking about yeah that could work very well, its certainly more laid back than the track in the original post but thats not necessarily a bad thing, it's important that the music is tied to the pace of the gameplay so that things are in sync with one another

How exactly are backers going to lose access to the content? If you opt for the GOG version then you can just have a copy of the installer for the game on whatever hard drive and keep it there, indefinitely. I dont see a real need for a method of repurchase.

I get exactly where your coming from but i think you're ignoring the cultural issue here, i like you have developed games in the past (thinking about starting another soon) so i know how much of yourself you put into the damn things, but i can understand IGA's reluctance to appear as a boss. That i think is the main issue here, whether he'd be comfortable with that particular content being widespread - i would understand if as DLC it were more expensive than average. To keep it as Special Edition and not just the Edition that everyone owns.

I've got to disagree with you dragonkd, the extra boss should be backer only content; thats what makes it a Special Edition of the game. It's a gift for those who've shown enough faith to give their money up front and help IGA's vision come to fruition. It's not like it's a huge chunk of the game that would be missing for other players, its just one enemy. It was promised as backer exclusive content and should remain that way - not just as a reward to those with faith in the project but also because IGA was really reluctant to put himself in the actual game because it's considered a vain act (you know how modest Japanese people can be). Fans wanted him to be in the game and he eventually relented so i doubt he'd want that content to be readily available for everyone to buy.

I've got complete confidence in IGA and i'm pleased that he's willing to do whatever it takes to deliver his vision for the Bloodstained Project. I really appreciate his honesty in this update, it's obvious that he really cares deeply about both the game and what we think.
The "delay" does not matter in the slightest, but i'm interested to see who the new developers are and possibly how the workload will be split between them and the current dev team. Bloodstained is planned to be a HUGE game so more people on board is a positive step. I hope that IGA knows that we all believe in the Project and his ability to deliver what was promised.
I'll happily tolerate more delays if necessary, i dont mind as long as stretch-goals are completed and the game is well-crafted. Take as long as you need IGA, you cant rush when creating a masterpiece.
