It is cool there are those anticipating Castlevania anniversary. It just sucks that Konami won't do anything with it. Similar to Capcom and Megaman... Though at least a Collection of sorts would be something...
I dunno, but it seems like it is up to the fans for the celebration. To make, celebrate and maintain Castlevania longevity. Seems like the perfect place to unveil fanart, fangames and fanfiction.
I first new the series back with Simon's Quest but I didn't jump on board until SotN. I preferred the veriety of weapon types to the standard whip. So I followed the Aria set, Portrait and Eclessia. I still like the story of Dracula X, but gameplay wise is post that game.
though I'd love a Collection with Saturn's Nocturn in the Moonlight and the legit Bloodlines... But something tells me that will never happen.

It is a good thing the topic consists of opinions generalizing the concept of hack 'n slash in that case.
Unlocking areas aren't solely beat 'en up or MegaMan, Contra, Metal Slug, etc would also be forms of beat 'em up for they all consist of that within their formulas yet are run 'n gun. Or same with Metroid, both classic and Prime, had such. But are more action exploration. Or Gears of War. Etc etc.
All formulas have similarities with their own unique stance. You feel those games are beat 'em up with hack 'n slash, while I feel those are hack 'n slash since they are faster pased than a beat 'em up. Which, I feel would be like Shank, Viewtiful Joe. I would feel Baldurs Gate to be more strategy RPG due to viewpoint and controls with quick techniques. But that is just me...
I could see Devil May Cry due to its weapons and varied attack executions and speeds but something like Dynasty or Hyrule Warriors would be more hack 'n slash. Especially when it doesn't have a whole lot of veriety for attacks (other than different characters or such).
Though that is just me.

Devil May Cry, Chaos Legion, Nanobreaker, Dynasty Warriors, etc...
What I figure is mass of enemies to eliminate to unlock the progression. A tweak to a beat 'em up. Kind of flashy, flowy with much killing. One vs hords in every open area reached with barriors placed to prevent continuation until the enemies are eradicated.

The way Axiom Verge used such was an entire hallway prior save/boss three-way, would have a change in tunes (music would stop and sounds would radiate as if something big was breathing) then the three way with an entrance, boss room and save room with a background showing this is a boss encounters direction.
Kind of gave you a chance to risk exploring further or guessing which way was the save. Sometimes it didn't work out the way intended. But dying was part of the story so it gave you a chance to prepare better before treking back.
Would a changed audio track with symbolic icon be used in place of locked doors be acceptable to a degree? Or inspire something else?

No idea about the hard copy Classics. But for Saturn SotN, I doubt it. It was denied with the relocalization in the Dracula X Chronicles. It is like they want to pretend that one doesn't exist. Probably something to do with the team responsible for it. Since it wasn't the actual development team...

Only problem with making it play on Fc or NES is that those engines are sorely outdated that nothing modern will run on them. Nowadays that stuff is emulated on newer engines. But that doesn't enable the content to be native to the console it emulates...
They could hack but that is even more time with old code of some other engine...

Capcom did something similar for a press kit when MegaMan 9 came out. They used old carts they had, removed all contents and put a CD inside the cart.
I don't think Iga-San has access to carts but it would be a cool case anyway.

One game I liked that fell under the radar was Chaos Legion. Decend, slower hack and slash by Capcom.

Then it will be an agree to disagree thing. They can do so much more within their fiction. But to each their own.

Shields haven't been the best part of any Igavania probably because SOTN was the only one that utilized them more than some one off spell. I don't understand why she needs something different, swords go with shields throughout history...like white on rice. Shields shouldn't be pushed to some spell status where it takes a space that can be used for far more effective spells. Can shields be done in a unique way? Sure, I can agree with that. Maybe they can make it where you find crystal shards, or you get crystal shards from particular enemies and in certain combinations you MAKE your own shielding device. So lets say you get a ......'holy crystal' ....and a 'crystal cross'.... the combination makes some sort of holy shield made out of crystals. It fits the theme but it's more unique. Swords and shields don't always go together. Plenty of times have there been fencers, kensai or swordsmen whom didn't use a shield. For a veriety of reasons. Which, aesthetically I'd wager that is why we haven't seen Miriam with a shield in any artwork. Also shouldn't assume spells take up spots, especially when I wasn't suggesting anything of the like. We don't know how the magic will work. How specific the equipment options will be and if Crystal curse is any kind of factor at play with either. With that said, there are more ways to utilize a non equipment type. Especially when magic is a large factor in the developing world. Accessories furnishing a shell, shield or barrior frees up her hands to use two handed weapons without sacrificing defensive options. Even equipment could hold dual properties; weapons that form shields as a second nature. Due to natural properties, what properties are added ala forging or enchantments. Etc. Shielding could be a native option as well, having its own button, with elemental or attributal adjustments being its own sub menu.

Sane with shield types, weights and functions. Either way it is going to be a personal preference over anything.
Character wise, magice or Crystal based seems to fit Miriam a lot more than a fair sized metal, wood, leather object. Shields haven't been the best part of any Igavania except combined with something else. Like SotN.
So ignoring hunks of material and how they functioned for in SotN, she needs something different. So having them behave in a magical sense can work. Treat them like glyphs on OoE just without sacrificing MP. Equip the intended item, let it behave like a shield. They don't even need to be spells to be magical. Items instilled with such function same way especially if said items are accessories.
But that is second to appling a use of her Crystal and possible barriers.
But either way, I prefer her to parry instead of just block. Sure blocking has its own pace and application but same with parries. Especially if the intent is more action.
If there are shields, I hope they are few and far in between something else.

I personally don't have an interest with shields being in the game. I feel, with the character not being combat adept (more forced into combat) that a shield wouldn't serve a purpose outside what SotN did, which blocked projectiles.
I feel that something else should come into play. Something Magic or Crystal derived. Barriers. Protect auras. Bracers (instead of blocking and striking, she could parry with armored arm or with weapon)...
But for the sake of conversation what about a kind of happy medium, all shields are non-physical projections she can acquire (playing off the magic/crystal aspect)? I feel that, in context it would make more sense for a non warrior to have a shield like object instead of a shield as well as show her command of magic or magical items. Unless Miriam is a warrior but her abilities were impacted by her amnesia... But that might be too much Vagrant Story for an Igavania.

I'll vote both. But in detail it depends on my mood. Sometimes j just want some action. Others I am up for a puzzle. If only there was a way to toggle the A.I. to allow for such.

I was more talking about mobile. If I want to play the game at home I can just fire up my PS1 copy,so I don't really care about it being on Steam. But now VII and IX will be on mobile while VIII gets shafted despite it being, in my opinion, the best of the three. VIII doesn't get nearly enough love from the FF fanbase and it sucks that apparently it's not getting love from SE either. I'm wondering if the PocketStation features are what could be holding it up.

Least favorite? Walking. One thing CotM got different that would have added a whole new dynamic was the sprint. Makes travel less tidious and just feels better (when pressed by enemies, long jumps, etc).
It just feels slugish.

It is because she has fought him so many times that he triggers PTSD within her. Fighting a damning foe who has ruined your plans and set a course to kill the baby Metroid (which effected her in and of itself), and causes her to doubt that she in fact killed him. Returning makes it seem like he didn't die.
But the biggest thing is that (in the e-manga I think) it shows that Ridley was the cause of the annihilation of her family. And is a plague to the Zebes Chozo due to them destroying his specie... With that, having doubts of killing him and his constant return is a bit of a mindfuck... He is what destroys parts of her world. No one else really gets to make that claim.

I'm sure we will see something 'Dracula'. Especially if the community asked for something along those lines... Konami doesn't own Dracula. He would be an interesting mino boss. Somewhere, Miriam crosses him, fights him. Kills him then it proceeds to a false ending... Just because...
