You're right. Iga said that souls was Soma's shtick, and would prefer to keep it that way. He wants his games to have a unique mechanic. Soma was souls, Shanoa is glyphs, and now Miriam is magic crystals. Yay! Thank you, I am not crazy.

Has anyone ever thought about the concept of a weapon with life? Like, with feelings, transformations and other things, you know, a brain and thoughts? I don't know how it would work, hell, even if this is a good idea or not, but for me it sounds interesting. As many people have stated, yes. SotN did it pretty well. Also in my list Sharur: "Smasher of thousands". An enchanted talking mace. Not only could Sharur talk, it was also sentient, offering the god advice on powerful enemies, gathering information wherever it could.

I should probably give my reasoning why I think Bloodstained in particular probably won't have a romance subplot. 1. Miriam suffered a traumatic experience in her past regarding the Magi-crystal curse, something designed by The Alchemists to create weapons for killing demons(or something like that). She was one out of only two to survive the ordeal, but ended up in a curse-induced coma. She woke up 10 years later with amnesia. Romance would be the LAST thing on her mind. I'm not even sure if she has long to live, unless the curse will be purged by the end. 2. Miriam is described as a person of few words, but strong in purpose. Doesn't seem like romance material to me. Much like Shanoa, they have a purpose, and aren't looking for romance. 3. Johannes is one of The Alchemists, even if he did leave them, and is one of the good guys. Him being a romantic interest is out of the question. I suspect Miriam and Johannes will have a professional relationship. 4. Gebel has gone insane from the curse, and is the antagonist of the castle. Even if he is saved, there are more pressing matters at hand then romance. I can't discount the possibility of Miriam and Gebel becoming a couple in a sequel, but not in this game. Also, this forum needs a wine-glass smiley. All these reasons make me believe wine would be my only companion. Oh wine, how I love you. In vino veritas

All I know is that at least one of the following enemies need to drop a familiar: Paimon, Buer, Purson, Morax, Malphas, Sabnock, Allocer, Amy, Belial. Purson's description from the Goetia: a Great King of Hell, being served and obeyed by twenty-two legions of demons. He knows of hidden things, can find treasures, and tells past, present and future. Taking a human or aerial body he answers truly of all secret and divine things of Earth and the creation of the world. He also brings good familiars.
Purson is depicted as a man with the face of a lion, carrying a ferocious viper in his hand, and riding a bear. Before him there can be heard many trumpets sounding.Hidden room/ destroy-able object finding familiar, anyone? YES YES AND YES! If you can find ways to have lore flow into your game, I say use it shamelessly! More of this.

If you could do an Alura Une I would fall off my chair. Plant Monster? Yes! Female Monster? Yes! Female Plant Monster that killed be over a dozen times??? YES! Alura Une? From which game are you talking about? I do remember a venus something somehting blue version that killed me once in SotN but that's it I am talking about the ones from Castlevania SotN. Alura Une is also known as the Venus Weed. There is the pink haired one that is fed with human blood, she has white skin and grey rose petals. Then there is the Blue Alura Une, also known as Blue Venus Weed, which is basically the same as the Venus Weed, but fed with demon blood. This one has orange hair, green skin, and blue rose petals. If you get hit enough times the petals change to a red colour as if it is drinking your blood.

I had another thought, what if weapons had two forms like BB? Perhaps they could extend into a longer combo/chain, or have varying properties that necessitated a dual form. Joyeuse: Some legends claim Joyeuse was forged to contain the Lance of Longinus within its pommel. "by his side hung Joyeuse, and never was there a sword to match it; its colour changed thirty times a day." Sword Spear combo! Two of the strongest mythological weapons.

I do have one question for you all... Should I try to stay mainly towards Bloodstained themed sprites or should I do some Castlevania specific ones as well? I see we already have Alucard.... If you could do an Alura Une I would fall off my chair. Plant Monster? Yes! Female Monster? Yes! Female Plant Monster that killed be over a dozen times??? YES!

This is how I most likely see it playing out, or at least the most wanted. 1. A couple easy to find/story progression based 2. 1-2 hard ones by meeting certain requirements such as beating optional bosses or max exploration type. 3. 2-3 where you have to quest and find the pieces but then have to use the alchemy system to put them together and fill it with a demon soul. I like this, it means you feel like you worked for something, and if it's powerful it feels earned. I hate when they give you stuff for free. Agreed, very nice combination.

What we are more likely to get are demonic transformations, à la The Lesser Key of Solomon. But we have an equal chance of homunculus, and/or golem transformations, because of the tie-in of alchemy. It could even be something divine. "the real aim of all the preparation and cumbersome apparatus, was to unite their earthly, mortal soul with that of the Creator, to participate in the divine, to reawaken their spiritual consciousness, and to grasp the secret forces at work behind the natural world." Or something nightmarish. "the transformation had more to do with the alchemists themselves than with a lump of metal. Turning lead into gold was a symbolic way of describing the true aim of alchemy: the spiritual transformation of the alchemist. If one takes the time to read the alchemical literature, it’s easy to come away feeling absolutely muddled. Strange creatures, impossible landscapes, paradoxes, and downright illogic seem to dominate; the closest thing to any modern is the writings and art of the surrealists, who, ironically, looked to the alchemists for inspiration or interpretation of dreams." A little off topic but the more I read on alchemy I believe that Bloodstained's plot will revolve around Miriam searching for a way to recreate herself, and become human again. I think the homunculus transformations would be very interesting, as there is limitless potential with that. Seeing as Miriam is cursed by Alchemy, it would make it possible for her to gain chimera-like features. Maybe she would adopt Soma's soul collecting system and the different enemies she consumes would allow the player to choose how she would be able to transform (<-- That's probably too out of the ballpark). Soul collecting was fun, but I think I remember something about Iga not wanting that type of system in this game. (If I recall correctly, don't quote me on it, I can't find the link to what my mind might be imagining)

I don't know WHY you would come to that conclusion, but you need to lighten up. Don't make this a repeat of what happened the other day in the off-topics section. Miriam is female, therefore romance is possible. I'd prefer there not be a romance subplot in an Igavania game. My opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. But... but... wine glass....

what about also making weapons and armor for the familiars I don't know. . . I always thought of familiars as utilities. Giving them items seems a little too in depth to me. You have support, damage, defensive, silly, and a few other types of familiars. They are not supposed to be their own character, but more of a tool for use. I like brainstorming, but I think it just adds a layer to the game that it doesn't need, and the same result can be accomplished in ways we already have implemented. We want the familiar to do more damage? We could instead make our weapon deal more damage, or have a spell level up if you don't want to get close to an enemy. And the familiars will most likely have a level system in place anyway, so just by levelling them they will become more powerful. As for familiar armour, If Iga keeps in line with most games, then the familiar won't even be attackable.

I have been rethinking it. I would like some familiars to be crafted. Like a Golem, or Homunculus, or even the legendary Pigeon-Rat!!! But I would still want some familiars to be found.

yeah I was just going to say I hope they don't pull off the tired old the good ally is actually the bad guy and the bad guy is actually the victim 'twist'. About earlier in this thread, I personally don't care if miriam has a romance substory or not. But I object to the notion that just because if she has one means she 'needed' one. Why is it when a man has a romantic interest in a game it's a romantic interest, but if a woman has one it's supposed to mean something offensive. I mean if she acts like a useless tool and needs a man to do everything for her, ok yeah that would be annoying, but I don't think that's going to happen, and certainly wouldn't assume such just because the game had some kind of romantic sub-plot. Samus Aran. Other M. Worst piece of shite I have ever played. Now, I think Miriam should have a romantic interest in the wine glass!

Do you guys think it would be cool if you had to craft your own familiars? (a'la Curse of Darkness) Well I personally don't like it, but with the whole alchemy angle, I can see it being a thing. I would prefer that the familiars have their own history that is separate from yours, but you end up either enslaving them or bringing them to your cause however you can.
