actually, i think all joke weapons should be useful in some way even if its not immediately obvious, whether its spraying coins or jewels when you slam an enemy or randomized damage based on luck, or swapping the drop values of an enemy but having really low attack so its much harder to beat them, but you have a much better chance of hitting the jackpot (these ideas could be applied to other things too, but i feel that often joke weapons get used once for the lulz and then disappear into your inventory until you decide to run a game a specific way), so even though yes its a jab at konami it shouldnt be completely worthless
besides, maybe one day there will be a guard change at konami and theyll wake up and start using all that money theyre sitting on to really push for making great games with their ips and creating new ips again, we saw how quickly konami changed with one ceo after all, what if the next one is a huge believer in gaming?

I know, i saw that and was thinking of having the best of both worlds, you have that sprawling castle layout with loading rooms to possibly break up drastic transitions, but still have the likelyhood of tightly packed clusters of rooms that share an overarching theme and flow from one environment to the next, and that the exterior and interior layout meshing could allow for those aha moments where you look out a window and realised theres something you missed before

I get you on the minibosses, those i think may not warrant a full on closed off "boss door" area but to have a room where you cant go forward until x enemy is dead but you can leave if you feel overwhelmed (either through size or reach like enkidu and blackmore or by focusing their defensive abilities on one door like a grand une focusing her tentacles on barring the door behind her or a living wall type enemy hiding the door), and those type of fights could allow for having the savepoint further away because you are allowed the choice of "oh shit whats that! Do i stick it out and try fighting it or do i need to save?
There is one tactic though that i think doesnt see much use but is supremely game changing as far as whether youre truly trapped, and thats the library card/magic ticket/teleport item, that item does effectively negate being trapped unless its somehow disabled during certain fights (and as far as i know is the only way to get true dracula and shaft in your bestiary, so i use it once there and save for full completion before i beat the game)

While surprise bosses are fine in games where you cant save (like classicvania) or can save anywhere (since its on you if you chose or forgot to save), in a game with fixed save points you cant adjust your save strategy to fit the area, and you end up yoyoing back to the save point every time you get hit hard or the enemy drops a rare item on the way back to where you last saw the boss, plus the surprise! factor only really works the first time you stumble into one, afterward it only works if you completely forget there was a boss there OR there is a random element to meeting said boss (like roguelike mode, this mode would be perfect for no boss door because it ramps up the expectations of what may lie ahead, it may be 3 zombies or a late stage boss, with a single boss door at the very end to give you a sigh of relief but also the dread of what horror lies beyond)
I do agree that a boss door doesnt need to be a copy/pasted "THIS IS A BOSS DOOR" design, but having some thematic element like an aura coming off the door or passageway that can be picked up on is something to give the player a bit of a heads up to start searching for a save point

there are a few reasons why a dev would still choose not to do cross platform, from pairing up a controller player with a mouse/keyboard player in an fps (rekt), to running console specific servers simply because theyre already running mutiple servers anyway and only having one server/console interface per server instead of 2/3 takes up less space (makes sense), to not knowing how to handle conflicting usernames (pita without forcing people to make a second login specific to the game company)
the biggest obstacle by far has been ms and sony, their business model pretty much didnt allow for it because why allow someone to buy one copy of the game and play with someone who has the competing console when you can force them into goading your friends into buying an xbox/ps so you can play with them (actually the only reason i even have an xbone, i went through like 3 360s that all rrod on me and all the exclusives eventualy make it to pc anyway), this is actually a huge reason why couch coop has pretty much been brutally murdered and stuffed into a wood chipper with the new gen, it 'encourages' more console, sub, and game sales
but as far as the actual servers go, the difference between online game servers is negligible, its the interface that handles the data stream that may be different, and even then it may not be different by much if the data translation is done on the console side as opposed to on the server side, it may be more feasible now with the use of megaservers but its nearly always been possible

if it could be fully remade? steel battalion, hands down, redesigning the cockpits to allow for more side viewing room with all the monitors, dials, and hud in well placed positions with that bigass controller (being able to track where your hands are though would be the hard part, thered need to be some kind of camera/AR setup that allowed you to look down and see your hands and controller) would be absolutely epic, just imagine running an armored core or gundam game using that setup

Bout damn time, it was feasible when multiplayer stopped being on ms/sony servers and was hosted by the game company, at that point it was just the consoles not playing nice
Just hope eso joins in, i hate that my xbone copy doesnt have the event mounts my pc copy does >.>

i do agree they look a little cumbersome in the mockup, i had a really hard time finding something that could get across what i was seeing in my head that wasnt pixel thin and would completely disappear when i tried to overlay it, or hugely bulky and would take up too much space, the main theme i wanted to get across is the ui elements being woven back into the game by having them attached to this picture framesque look rather than simply hanging in midair, much like how the platforms in iga games generally dont hang in midair like most platformers, theyre usually woven into the background somehow >P

smaller companies also arent usually spending massive amounts of money just existing, capcom is paying lawyers, accountants, hr people, management, marketers, analysts, a bunch of people that can influence a game being made without ever having to actively have a hand in making the game
as for depth, there are quite a few tricks that could be employed to keep things mysterious, from using the lighting to keep far objects in just enough shadow that you wonder whats going on back there, to using different layers of objects and parallax to tease or have things come into view only when you are in certain spots, im sure iga and the team will have plenty of ideas on cool stuff and mysteriousness to put in the background
