thank you curry for all the great games youve worked on alongside iga and the team, and im hoping the new game goes smoothly and yall can really show off the new techniques you learned from rotn!
how much of a challenge was it having to flip between 3d enemies in lament to the 2d everybody was more familiar with in aria, and has that helped with adapting to the new tech moving forward?

its more the whip has a very wierd arc to get used to, especially when youre dealing with enemies above you cause there is a dead zone between the whip and you

yeah he runs out of mp in the tactics cause of soul steal which is a neat way of letting slip "hey, spells exist in the game, go find them" but it does screw him on the last half of the fight, but i dont know if that one gets hit a lot because of bad coding, bad input timing, or the whole thing desyncing, and a couple other fights do use the knight shield so im not sure why they dont use the shield on olrox, itd be an interesting thing to dig through the code and see just how that fight is supposed to go

yup, that design philosophy has been around with igas games since sotn, in fact the librarians boss tactics screen is i think an input recording of those dev fights, cause almost all of them use the default longsword and only has powers in a couple of them like mist or bat

the new outfits are to keep the concept artists and modelers busy and in a job while the coders do their thing fixing bugs and implementing dlc, and on many games its also sort of a cooldown period while the team leads, the writer, and the director get together and brainstorm the next project

i think the game is fine as is with a caveat, if an item is too powerful/not powerful enough because of a coding or math error, then fix it cause thats a bug. if a weapon is too powerful/not powerful enough because its supposed to sit in a particular place on the shelf of power tiers and PLAYERS think its op/weaksauce, that is intentional and shouldnt need to be messed with
i will say though to the devs that some of the awesome movement tech ive seen in speedruns coupled with the different ways you can customize miriam for luck, or attack speed, or movement speed, etc is a beautiful way to bring longevity to the community and allows for some off the wall speedrun/challenge categories like initial equipment or paper flash runs (no equipment, all speed boosts by the end of the game type thing)

the problem with comparing an iga game to a musou like few is theyre 2 completely different genres, musou literally shuts your brain off while you go on a power trip and the entire story could be watched in like 15-30 minutes, iga games are closer to action platformer with rpg elements, and how quickly you finish is entirely based on your knowledge of the map, enemies, and your actions, and with the number of different modes you get in the game that only increases the play time (ooe lvl1 naked run would probably be one hell of an endurance run)
oh wait heroes, yeah mobile games are their own can of worms when you look at how many of them are designed entirely around having 30 minutes of daily content spread out over all day not to make it interesting for the people who will casually check on it when they have a minute but to frustrate people who want to play it in single chunks and get them to spend money to play longer, i will give feh huge kudos for not being anywhere near as aggressively monetized as other mobile games

im not denying the game needs optimization still, im simply saying these issues arent as cut and dry as many think

it actually wouldnt surprise me that the demo booths would have various issues running Goofball and other demos, often they have to be set up very quickly by several different people, and not everyone working there is going to have an education in A/V to know how best to set that particular brand of tv for gaming (if that tv even HAS a gaming mode and wasnt just bought because someone was able to get a good discount on a bulk purchase), and then you have to consider the venue lighting, the fidelity of the hdmi cables being used, whether the controllers have been calibrated recently and havent been banged around so much the analogue stick is offcenter, and thats before you even get to how well the actual demo is optimised

i like the idea of a "RETRO" cheat code that overlays a 16/32bit filter for a 2difying effect similar to monster boy, but i think itd involve way more work than the payoff would bring since its essentially an entire graphical set as opposed to something like scanlines

given that game corporations can easily be goaded into dick measuring competitions (the badguys in wreck it ralph being a perfect example) its possible nintendo going to capcom and konami and the massive amount of music those 2 let sakurai use will make squeenix loosen their grip and try to one up everybody else, so much so i have the feeling well actually be getting MORE final fantasy songs along with a collection of DQ and other squeenix medleys if erdrick is actually a thing

depends, shortish hair like that bounces pretty quick, plus hair and cloth physics are like the last 2 great hurdles of physics engines (water used to be the 3rd but now theres algorithms that can fake it well enough)
also nier had square enix backing it, and squeenix tech is like 2-3 generations ahead of everybody else because they dump millions into their engine tech

mwahahaha, vagrant story, fite me!
nah the combat system being pseudo-atb with combos makes it more rpg than action-exploration

i love the idea of a a cheeky injoke achievement from moving the crate normally, but what would be even more epic is a hidden achievement by sliding into the crate a bunch to move it
