actually, theres a lot to glean from this, the lighting is much better and less resource intensive (means the artists can devote more time to making the visuals even better while the coders track down the remaining bugs), the difference between the look in the backer demo and the look in those screens is much improved, theyve spent a lot of time making sure the crafting is simple enough to not be intrusive, but not so shallow it wont scratch a completionists itch, menus are clean, clutter is well placed, colors are clean, miriam is easily recognisable even surrounded by a blue tinted room, the only thing i really want at the moment is to see it all in motion so we can see how the improvements interplay

understandable, but my next question becomes if a tree falls in the forest and nobody tells you it fell, how do you know to demand the tree be unfelled? this is the curse of being this close to game development, you see decisions being made that are made for a multitude of reasons but you arent in the room experiencing the context leading up to that decision, its easy for me to say they should make the games for vita and wiiu (systems i own) but i also know enough about game design and video games to realize that when nintendo and sony say "we are ending support for x console" that translates to "fuck you, either move your development to the new one we are supporting or have fun spending craptons of extra time and money reverse engineering our console to fix every little issue you come across" and that was basically happening on TWO fronts, unreal 4 is not supported on those systems and the manufacturers dropped support so i know that such a demand is ultimately unfeasible and would only serve to kill off the game for everyone conversely, mac and linux do have workarounds like wine and bootstraps, and if IGA and team make the effort to ensure that the pc game works with those workarounds, how can you say they didnt make the effort to make it work in some way?

let me put it this way, would you rather they spent an extra 3 million and 6-9 months fixing whatever incompatability issues they found (which could be anything from a persistent memory leak, bethesda levels of CTDs, a need to restructure the file structure, to unreal itself just refusing to cooperate with mac/linux) ON TOP OF all the bugs theyre already encountering unique to switch/ps4/xbox/pc and risk the game not coming out at all, or they get their hands on the various bootstrap programs and make sure theyre the most compatible pc game out there for maybe 100k in costs and a month of rigorous testing
i get the frustration, especially with how last year went when it came to game publishers, but this isnt that problem, this isnt a bunch of MBAs who dont game running dead studios getting mad that they only made 500 million in 3 days, this isnt activisions marketing team getting greedy and carving up blizzard because "they dont make enough money", this isnt bethesda having its own head up its ass how great they thought their frankenstein of fallout 4s engine with quakes netcode shoved up its ass sideways and ignoring likely all the advice they were given (how do you ask iD for advice on how to make a game and then miss basic resolution support or basic pc options?),
this is IGA and his team encountering issues that we as gamers NEVER see or hear about until maybe a decade later in a developer retrospective but that happen on nearly every multiplatform release ever made, we are seeing developer decisions and hurdles and conversations that would make you wonder how ANY game actually makes it to done in the first place, and we get to see this level of development hurdles because we believed in him back when he was struggling to even get this game outside of concept phase cause none of the stuffed shirts running the publishing companies would give him a chance (btw, Konami owns health insurance companies and have abused that power to deny ex employees coverage, hes basically a ronin in a feudal land of corporate daimyos, nintendo handed out an edict in japan that not only was game rental illegal decades ago now save modification is too and it became law, think on that a moment)
we as gamers often only see the aftermath of these decisions with the pretty trailer with all the nice neat boxes that say what platforms the game will come out on 6 months to a year after that decisions been made, and even then often the non-native ports are released at least a year after the native ones, all i ask is that we calm ourselves and let IGA continue his work
as for that KS comment, what amounts to accusing them of cooking the books is a legal challenge and unless they have cpa certifications or a law degree to back up that claim in court the level of accounting 505 probably has to keep regarding what funds are theirs vs what funds came in from IGAs kickstarter purse just from a standard "we wanna make sure we know how much we spent on this so we make our money back" would make your head spin

if they MUST put in FE#327140832741294720 char yeah they really should do a spear or axe user, that even the magic user has a sword is annoying but i will give that theyre well varied in playstyles, id almost even go as far as suggesting a mounted character but i think that truly would be too big a hitbox because FE chars have to hold to a scale and cant skirt that through ultra lank like ridley can
i think banjo kazooie would be a good choice due to their representation of the collectathon, their popularity back in the day, and their moveset is varied enough to be interesting, issue there is m$
if it werent for dissidia nt id imagine more final fantasy representation would be in (as for music, the holdup on songs may be partly uematsu needing to sign off on usage too as the ff14 tracks composed by him are owned by him, same legal tangle sora falls under due to disney/squeenix/nomura 'owning' him), but chrono would make a good character to go in if that doesnt run into a similar problem with toriyama
another iconic bandai namco character could be nice, but first we have to toss out any licensed characters they work with like gundam sailor moon or jojo, and if we wanna avoid sword wielders (mitsu ivy or night/sieg might get a pass there due to how differently they could be implemented) the prince would make for a good wtf character especially if the attacks are objects flying off the katamari and the smash is the game going full acid trip with the king showing up
im still hoping for solaire, if for no other reason than to see him praise the sun surrounded by wii fit trainers doing the same like a bad 80s exercise video
if a mortal kombat character makes it in, it has to be noob saibot as a smorgasborb of the other ninjas trademark moves, this works as both as a half joke char (the name is a dev callout) and as a nod to all the palette swapped ninjas in mk by having the other ninja colors as his alt colors, plus his shadow clones are probably the best choice to capture the spirit of an mk fatality beatdown without needing to resort to exploding corpss with more bones than a mausoleum

My feelings on this update are similar to yours; I was under the impression that the game was in the final states of development and that only a bit of bug testing and polish was needed. It seems *very* late in the project to bring on another contractor. I was hoping for an early 2019 release but this announcement doesn't inspire much confidence for a first quarter 2019 release. actually given that the norm for betas are 2-6 months before release, im pretty sure they couldve gotten rotn out feb ish as a good game, however bringing on wayforward to help tighten up the game with their own expertise on 2d games may add some time for extra polish, it means the game will look and feel that much more epic when its done
what youre seeing is more the side of game dev most companies keep heavily under wraps because for most gamers bringing on consultants or people from another dev team within a company to help with a nasty bug or to help with polishing makes the game sound like its spiraling out of control when its really not
for a good example of how NOT to handle a release you need not look far to fo76, a game that had all the problems of a bethesda game and an online game and the servers werent even on their feet yet, holding a glorified demo for an early access game disguised as a beta disguised as B.E.T.A. 3 weeks before the game released (btw games have to go gold and be printed about the same time to ensure stores have copies to sell, even if the "physical version" turns out to be a cd key printed on a card inside the box)

angel said on the discord wayforward has been working with them since the demo feedback started rolling in, and from last update youve seen how much the teams were able to improve on gebel, so iga got an excellent 2d dev that loves castlevania and iga games to make sure the work ahead went smoothly to hit iga quality, this is awesome news

coop, challenges, cheat codes (but youd still have to discover/unlock individual codes through play or clans), and asynch multiplayer
most everything else like speedrun mode and the higher difficulties are best as something unlocked after even the 'bad end' because by then people have got enough playtime under their belt they understand the overall gist of the game, and those who are gunning for speedrun mode because theyre well, speedrunners, are generally going to spend at least one playthrough learning how the game operates before hitting the runs anyway

think of something as simple as getting confirmation on the way the engine handles a specific task like calling an attack from a database through a timer module to make sure youre not eating unnecessary resources
in konami you have everybody in a close timezone all working on a konami produced engine with konami employees you likely know fairly well from other projects, you call them or send them an email, you get your answer then or within a couple hours, and youre good
now, you have people that could be on the other side of the world in another company that may not have a specific individual assigned to you to talk to so you may deal with someone new each time, that answer may now take up to 12 hours to get answered and in the meantime you have to spend time figuring out how that function works or set it aside to work on something else
i think once bloodstained is done his next game will be much more practiced and smooth, because by then hell know how to navigate those bumps similar to how his games got much more refined with each iteration under konami, hell have a working library to pull from, any neat ideas this game sparks but wouldnt fit can be fleshed out for the next one, and the engine will have been tailored to suit his teams needs

ok, played the demo, that was fucking awesome, i have a bit of a gripe with the sword feeling a pixel or 2 too short and the shop not letting you know youre at max items already but the puzzles are well made, they dont fall into the zelda trope of the dungeon item being required to beat the boss, and the navigation is varied enough to make exploring require paying attention but not so convoluted youre wondering how the hell do i get there

definitely gonna play the demo, looks like they mishmashed bits and pieces from all the zelda games, if the puzzles are as integrated into the world as the combat looks to be they have a really great thing on their hands
