I'd have to agree with what Castledan's saying abut gameplay gimmicks and story getting in the way of each other. Games like that don't feel mature to me when they do it and I think it'd be better for the player to suspend their disbelief.
As for the overall feel of the castle, I hope it ends up feeling like a mix between a cathedral and a giant Victorian mansion. I want to see that stained glass put to good use.

I'm glad the game is getting re-released since FF9 is my favorite entry in the series and more people will be able to play it. The improved visuals look great, but I also hope the game ends up being a good port and there's no major gameplay changes.

All the questions so far seem good, especially the one about how the CM got involved. I'd like to know if they approached/asked for the job or if they applied for the position. That doesn't make much of a difference to me since networking and getting jobs through people you know is a normal thing in every field and it shouldn't be an issue as long as they can do the job, I'm just still kinda curious.
I have a lot of questions since I'm trying to approach this situation as a public version of a job interview, but I also hope most of them are already planned anyway.
BLOODSTAINED AND THE COMMUNITY (or) GETTING TO KNOOOOW YOOOOU -What is the biggest misconception about your role as community manager that you'd like to get out of the way right now? -How did you learn about Bloodstained's Kickstarter campaign? -Which console do you plan to play Bloodstained on? If you're going with PC, will you use Steam or GOG? -Would you rather have a digital or physical copy of Bloodstained? -Sword or whip? -Are you allowed to give your personal opinion or feedback on Bloodstained's direction or pitch ideas to the creative team in public? -How much power do you have when it comes to forwarding ideas to IGA and Inti Creates? -What game do you feel has had the biggest impact on your life? -What is the crown jewel of your gaming collection? -A big selling point of Bloodstained is that it's a spiritual successor to the Castlevania games. Tell us about your personal experience with Castlevania. -What are some of your interests outside of gaming?
PUBLIC JOB INTERVIEW (or) CRUCIBLE OF FUN -How well do you know Japanese? -What other skills do you bring to the table and feel make you valuable at your job? -When I think of good community managers, I think of Seth Killian (Capcom, Street Fighter), Frankie (Bungie and 343i, Halo), and the guy who runs Sega's official Sonic twitter account. Who are some people who influenced or shaped your idea of what makes a good community manager? -What part of your job are you looking forward to the most? -What do you think will be the biggest challenge you'll face as community manager? -What is your favorite moment in your career so far? -What do you feel was the biggest mistake you've made in your career (if you can talk about it), and what lesson did you learn from it? -Let's say a feature, promise, or stretch goal that was promoted in Bloodstained's Kickstarter campaign ends up getting cut from the game in mid-development. How would you deliver this bad news to and/or handle the reaction from gaming fans on the internet?

I'd be fine with her just exploding and blood spraying everywhere like in castlevania lol Out of context that may just be the greatest thing I've ever read. "Miriam's fighting Gebel right now!" *boom* "...And she exploded!"

I remember watching commercials for Samurai Pizza Cats as a kid and thinking it looked dumb, but I appreciate it as an adult. I love watching shows like MxC, Shin-Chan, and Sgt Frog, and Ghost Stories where a good chunk of the original script is thrown out the window and the English writers/localization team have the freedom to go crazy.

From the "about" page. Good. Classic Mode is the only way I can enjoy Freedom Planet. I know there's people out there who liked the story and acting, but I found those embarrassing and I don't think any additional new acting/writing talent is going to change my mind for the sequel unless Galaxy Trail finds a way to replace the entire script with scenes from Breaking Bad (Lilac has to collect blue meth now!).
I'm excited that Christian Whitehead is on board and there's no plans/need for a crowdfunding campaign since the first game was so successful.

Trains?
Dec 22, 2015 21:03:13 GMT -6
Post by Goobsausage on Dec 22, 2015 21:03:13 GMT -6
If the game's creative team wants to include a train in the game, I'm pretty sure they will. I mean, it's a fantasy game with monsters, alchemy, and magic. Any historical accuracy regarding when trains were built can easily be thrown out the window through suspension of disbelief. Pretty much everything in any game is there for the sake of the world/level and the player.
Plus, I'm not entirely sure if Bloodstained takes place in "our" world with actual countries like England or France or a made-up one with its own history and countries. If it's the latter, the devs could just include whatever they want

Yeah. It feels like the hype train died down once the updates stopped. There was never an update for the incantation that was revealed on the final campaign stream.

@ Goosesausage - It's been so long since I saw Empire (about 6 - 7 years) that I had completely forgotten about that (I purposely went into the movie cold as I wanted to go in with as much of a neutral/non hyped mindset cause the last two times I went to see a Star Wars movie in theaters I went in super hyped and came out utterly disappointed both times) That's a good way of approaching it. I remember seeing the CGI Clone Wars movie in theaters thinking "hey, this is the future of Star Wars" and was severely disappointed with it. I tried to keep my expectations in check for an okay-ish action movie and a fun opportunity to experience something with a full audience since I didn't think anything in Episode 7 would live up to the marketing blitz it had, but once the title crawl started I thought "holy crap, this is actually happening, more Star Wars from a generation that grew up with the originals," and ended up going into full fanboy mode the entire 2 hrs.

I finished up my Christmas shopping today. It was pretty straightforward, but I also had to do a lot of driving when I decided to return a "gag" gift and had to go to the other side of town to get something else instead. I also had no idea that Bed, Bath, and Beyond could be so incredibly crowded/packed until today.

I saw this the other day (Friday) and overall I really enjoyed the movie, so much so that I went out and ordered the movie's soundtrack (found out Target was the only retailer outside of Disney Music Emporium with an exclusive version of the soundtrack) as well as the new Star Wars Battlefront game (I was gonna pass on it until the Ultimate/Definitive edition with the game & all the DLC came out for $40, but I saw the main game got marked down to $40 for Christmas then I ended up receiving a $15 GS gift card as a early Christmas gift. Throw in a free Kilo Ren POP vinyl bobblehead that usually goes for $12 - $15 when you buy the Standard Edition through GS.com and well I could no longer resist the pull of the "Dark" side ) though like most people I do have a few nitpicks that I hope will be resolved/addressed in Episodes 8 & 9. 1. Finn being able to use a lightsaber, I know the movie was very very lightly hinting that Finn might of, sort of, kinda have some kind of force/Jedi abilities (at the beginning of the movie when Kilo Ren senses something he stops and turns to see Finn in Storm Trooper gear staring at him, Finn being a quick study/becoming a good shot in a tie fighter when he's never been in/operated one before) but I feel that that aspect should have been played up a little more before Finn starts using the lightsaber towards the middle of the movie cause with out it it just makes it feel like anyone can up and grab/use a lightsaber which to me is kinda troublesome as it was established (or at least I believe it was....it's been a while since I've seen the original trilogy) in prior movies that only Jedi/those who are able to tap into or use the force are able to use lightsabers.
2. They don't establish/explain the different factions and why the New Republic & The Resistance are not the same thing when they should be the same thing given how Return of the Jedi ended or how remnants of the old empire are still around and are still a threat.
3. What happened to Poe after the Tie Fighter crashed and why didn't he go looking for BB-8 or Finn
4. 2 noobs ( I think Rey had more hand to hand fighting experience than Finn, but neither had any real prior experience or training using a lightsaber) being able to go toe to toe (for the most part) in a lightsaber duel against a (seemingly) well trained & powerful Sith and were able to not only survive, but in the case of Rey kick his punk@$$ all over the place.
1. When it comes to non-Jedi using lightsabers, Han isn't force-sensitive and used Luke's in Episode 5 to cut open the tauntaun. General Grievous wasn't either and used them in Episode 3. I think the reason Kylo Ren looked at Finn was because he noticed he didn't follow orders and Captain Phasma was the one addressed it because of rank-related reasons. With Finn and the TIE fighter gun, I remember hearing Poe say something along the lines of "it's like using a blaster" and that was why Finn was able to catch on.
2. Yeah, I wish that was made clearer too.
3. That's an excellent question, I have no idea.
4. I think H pretty much covered it in his reply.
If anyone's interested in spoiler-filled reviews, Red Letter Media and the Super Best Friends posted what they thought about Episode 7.

In response to some of the spoilers mentioned by Dragon_of_Dojima : I would like Rey's lightsaber to be a double-bladed one like Darth Maul's since she's already familiar with using a staff-like weapon, but I'd like to keep specialty lightsabers to a minimum. Keep it simple. Kylo Ren's crossguard was kinda neat since it was a little thing. The old expanded universe went overboard with them (e.g. Darth Plageius's spear saber, Maris Brood's twirly billy club sabers) and the new Rebels cartoon has the auto-twirling double-bladed lightsabers for the Inquisitors.
As for Finn, I don't think it's necessary for him to have a lightsaber or be force-sensitive. I felt it was part of his character arc to "stop running", fight for/defend his friend, and take his loss like a man. To me, him being a non-Jedi in that final duel made his growth feel like a bigger deal. I'd rather see him as a soldier or rogue with an exaggerated reputation for being "the guy who stood up to a Dark Jedi and lived" in Episode 8 as continuation of his "fake it 'til you make it"/smooth talker/compulsive liar attitude.
I'd also have to agree with you on the pacing. I would've liked more slower parts or fewer quick cuts. A lot of the shots were great, but they didn't last long enough for me to fully absorb them. It was like the move was in a hurry.
In response to XombieMike 's spoilers: I'm totally fine with Luke not saying anything. To me, it felt like both his and Rey's facial expressions and physical gestures said everything that needed to be said. The lack of dialog also provides juxtaposition to Rey's introduction at the beginning of the movie with the Miyazaki-esque silent sequence: instead of living aimlessly and alone while waiting for her life to improve in a desert, Rey now knows what she wants out of her life and has people by her side on a planet surrounded by water. By finding Luke, Rey really found herself, her purpose, and ends up in the total opposite from where she started. It's like poetry, it's sort of, they rhyme. From all the speculation/reactions I've read and heard, some people think Rey is Luke's daughter and some people think she's Han and Leia's other kid. I think it could go either way. But I would also kinda like it if Rey wasn't related to Han, Luke, and Leia, her family doesn't come back at all, it's never explained whey she was left on Jakku, and Luke adopts her into the Skywalker family. After all, Star Wars is the story of the Skywalkers and Rey's the new main character. It'd also give Kylo Ren more motivation to fight Rey by thinking she's not worthy of being in the same family as him and Vader. I think the old guy at the beginning is just a random old guy and we're supposed to fill the gaps with our imagination and the few details we have... until we get his official backstory in the books or comics. Up until he hinted about being from Alderaan, I thought he was an older version of Kanan from Rebels. As for Kylo Ren, I don't think the new trilogy will go the Darth or Sith route since Lucasfilm is establishing "new" groups with the First Order and Resistance. I'd rather see Episodes 8 and 9 build on the Knights of Ren as the dark side users and go into new territory than do another "Darth". I also thought everything you mentioned about why he didn't work was the entire point of his character and why I liked him so much. If you feel that way towards part of a movie, it usually means director did something right. I can see Kylo Ren being a divisive topic people will be debate about until Episode 8 comes out, and whether people like him or hate him, they're both right. But you are totally right about the Stormtroopers walking away in that scene. I like the idea of other people witnessing Kylo Ren's temper tantrums, but I thought what the movie did was a too goofy and killed the scene's mood. EDIT: Updated some details.

The new Star Wars movie is out this weekend. Anyone seen it so far? I enjoyed it a lot. I liked the cinematography, thought the actors had good chemistry with each other, and how most of the story was about clueless people trying to find out what to do. The only things that really bothered me felt kinda nitpicky, but also spoiler-ish at the same time. More detailed observations (these contain major spoilers). -The First Order Stormtroopers felt much more organized and tactical than the Episode 4-6 Stormtroopers. They felt like an actual military and came off as a threat!
-I really liked Kylo Ren. The scene where he caught the blaster bolt in mid-air looked really cool and left a great first impression, but I found his attitude and behavior more interesting. He throws tantrums, he's insecure, he's all bark and no bite, people don't respect him... it's as if prequel movie Anakin was done right!
-I loved the banter between Finn and Poe at the beginning. Great bonding moment. I would've liked to have seen Poe play a more substantial role.
-I found it kinda suspicious that Poe just left Jakku without trying to find BB-8 or checking on Finn after they crashed. Hmm...
-Rey kinda reminded me as a mix between Charlie Bucket (poor person trying to scrape by and BB-8 is her golden ticket) and Bastila Shan (pole/staff weapon, force user, similar outfit).
-Finn felt like Kyle Katarn (former Stormtrooper helping the good guys) combined with Kimmy Schmidt (raised in a cult and now discovering the world).
-The sloppy movement in the lightsaber duel between Rey and Kylo Ren reminded me of the animations in the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games.
-Thank you Harrison Ford, for not being in "paycheck mode" like most of your movies since 2000 and actually acting. I like to pretend he did Episode 7 for free and work up on set every morning thinking "Oh boy, I hope this is the day Larwence Kasdan and I finally kill Han Solo! We've been waiting for this since Empire Strikes Back, but now I get to make fanboys cry!"
-I'm not too bothered by how a lot of the movie felt like a remix of the original Star Wars (Episode 4) since there was plenty of interesting camera work and enough new stuff to go with it. How a story is told is more important than the story itself, but I'd rather see Episodes 8 and 9 do their own thing instead of heavily borrow story elements from the other movies.
-The only thing in the movie that really bothered me was when General Hux was giving the speech and he fired the Starkiller Base. At first I was thought "Oh, they're going full Nazi and saying bad guy things", but then they fired the laser and blew up a star system and I was totally confused. I thought the Resistance and the First Order were the only two factions in the movie and they were just the Rebellion and the Empire with new names, but the New Republic was a thing? And was that supposed to be Coruscant that got blown up? The scene looked kinda cool, but I was also kinda lost and had no idea what was going on. It felt like the movie was trying to make me feel sad emotions that weren't there. I have a hunch all this is fleshed out in the books and comics, but I shouldn't have to read them in order to understand what was going on. I would've rather seen General Hux's speech last a minute longer and explain what the whole deal with the First Order, New Republic, and Resistance was instead of cutting straight to him shouting "The New Republic's Senate lied to us! We will kill them with our Death Star Forge, and then we are going to kill Mufasa and Simba! Be prepared!"
-Finn going unconscious and Rey leaving at the end felt kinda weird. I would've liked to have seen them have one last conversation before they both go separate ways.

I saw Star Wars Episode 7 today.
Because nobody wants to read a wall of text and I don't feel like spending 2+ hours writing about how I feel, I'll just say I thought it was good and I want to see it again.

I'm not really feeling the Bayonetta hype either, but it's kinda fun to see people get excited over her.
I expected the direct would go into a little bit more detail about how Cloud got in other than just "he was the most popular request", but I'm glad it didn't. That would've probably taken up too much time, feel out of place in comparison to the rest of the announcements, and I think the internet is overthinking the whole situation when it really boils down to "this character is in because Sakurai thought it'd be a good idea."

As soon as I reached the 50 minute point and cecil-kain started talking about the rabbit enemy, I thought "this is totally Monty Python" about 3 seconds before Mike said a similar remark. But when calendar events were brought up, my train of thought immediately shifted towards Christmas, the Ice Cream Bunny from "Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny", and the possibility of giving him a creepy laugh similar to the one from the Rifftrax version.

As cool as the demon game is, I'd rather see it as an occasional thing in order to avoid losing impact and I think having it on all the time could make things confusing for new members.
