I like both fantasy and real armour too. But i prefer an unrealistic amount of real armor. Full plate from head to toe (helm missing is ok I guess... Neck to toe?). No wussy leather or mesh in between. yup I like both too, but I would like to see some awesome armor combinations like when you get/make a full set of armor (plus weapon and maybe a shield) it glows or it makes the player look like "living armor" or some other gimmick... I would love to try to find all the different combinations.

I know a lot of people like the "traditional" female video game armor (I do to once in awhile) but I think some awesome realistic female armor would be cool too... maybe something elegant and powerful.

How about a one eyed (or a no eyed) ghost familiar, that holds a candle light or lantern (there should be some willow o the wisps surrounding the light)... now this familiar should follow the player, when they reach a breakable wall, the willow o the wisps should float around the area, if the wall is not breakable the ghost should go to it and point at it.
I also think the familiar should reveal invisible enemies (it should take one time for each enemy... once an enemy is "revealed" the player should be able to see it anytime, though without the familiar it should be ghostly and see through).
Oh and one more thing, if there is such thing as leveling up familiars, the higher it's level the farther it can detect a hidden wall.

I don't think an Easter bunny would fit the castle theme seems like a bit of a stretch... but who knows. As for easter eggs in the game I am all for hidden rooms with items in them, maybe hidden rooms would contain user designed weapons and items? I have no special ties to any certain monster but I do agree there should be some more on the creepy side. I don't know about the actual easter bunny but a were-bunny would be cool lol or maybe an enemy that looks like a cute bunny but when you get close to it it turns into a tiny, ravenous monster lol now for ester eggs it would be cool to have an item called "Dracula's Tunic" or some other item from castlevania games

this is never gonna end, so I'm just gonna stop posting... I have already said all I wanted to say in my previous posts.
Mind you I am not doing it because I feel bad or anything like that, but I truly think I've said everything I wanted to. If I continue I will just be saying the same thing over and over again. so I am done "so long, and thanks for all the fish"

yup all opinions, as I have said before the the term "hack 'n slash" has become so diluted that too many people have slapped that label onto their games.
now about commenting on your comment, I can only comment on what was there... I, in no way consider "eliminate to unlock the progression" to be the ONLY defining feature of a beat 'em up... cuase you are right, that would include too many games, but I can only comment on what was written.
there are many different qualities of beat 'em ups like; limited item drops (mainly just health, magic (or stamina), temporary weapons... but nothing permanent. Only in recent years have permanent items have been introduced but they are hardly enemy drops, they are usually story items. there is also the combo system (though in the early years of beat 'em ups, combos weren't so big) or at least the ability to string combos together... there are other things that define beat 'em ups but I don't feel it is extremely necessary to name them all.
Now you say bulders gate is strategy? there really is no strategy in that game (well not much). That game is the epitome of hack 'n slash... when I was younger (dam I hate saying that), that was what a hack 'n slash was, you would mindlessly beat mobs, gain weapons, armor and treasure from enemy drops.
This is my opinion, if you don't get weapons, armor and items as drops from enemies I personally don't consider it a hack 'n slash... though this does not mean other games cannot be part of the hack 'n slash genre I just feel it would be considered a sub class. Again this is just one person's opinion, so please don't jump down my throat for it... I am not trying to convert people to my way of thinking, that would be stupid. I am not trying to push my views on anyone, people are free to see things the way they want. In the long run none of this really matters.
This thread made me realize that the term hack 'n slash has become a broad term for many games... not just the ones that I grew up with, I can see why but it just kinda suck to me that when I go to a gaming store and ask for a hack 'n slash rpg, I get confused looks...

Devil May Cry, Chaos Legion, Nanobreaker, Dynasty Warriors, etc... What I figure is mass of enemies to eliminate to unlock the progression. A tweak to a beat 'em up. Kind of flashy, flowy with much killing. One vs hords in every open area reached with barriors placed to prevent continuation until the enemies are eradicated. That's the thing, what you just described (and the games you named), IMO, are beat'em up games... in most of the hack n' slash games like baldur's gate and diablo, you don't need to eliminate ALL enemies to unlock progression (unless said enemies were key to the story) , you could run away if you want (though I would rather kill 'em all). Again (as I have said in my above comments), I can except all the games that are mentioned above are "beat 'em ups" with "hack 'n slash" elemnts but I (personally) cannot except them as pure hack 'n slashes.

That is one big setup, I saw the controls and they are very involved lol... but yeah that would work. I would think with the VR pod,, you'd be able to feel the movement of the mech as you move, that would be so freakin' awesome.
oh an here are a few other games I would like to see... Wipe out and custom robo

Many people are talking about VR (I know not lately but still) there is Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR and others... now this thread is not to talk about headsets but instead what classic games would be awesome if they were remade specifically as VR games. My personal pick would be Virtual-on (if you don't know about the game check out the video) the reason is because of these controllers called STEM controllers... with these controllers and the VR headsets it would bring Virtual-on would be soooooo coool!!! So what other games do you guys think would be a perfect fit for VR?

Cool people are talking about this, I like many of your thoughts, especially the whole "sub-genre" thing... I can live with that. It's just back in the days (dam I sound old when I day that lol) things were more defined (IMO)... but I could just be romanticizing the past.
It must have passed me by when the term Hack&Slash became so murky... like the overly abused word "ironic" (but not as bad lol)

Hey, I was talking to a friend and he was talking about Onechanbara as being a "hack & slash" but I think it is more of a "beat'em up" I didn't know they were being used interchangeably. This is how I define Hack & Slash: - Kill mobs
- get loot from monsters
Loot should include: - armor
- weapons
- healing items
(not a full list but I think this is what hack and slashes includes)
(I know it is pointless but) I was just wondering what the gaming community has to say.

ok here is something from left field, what if there are hidden costumes? you know like if you equip specific weapons, spells, and armor... this changes the entire look of Miriam (or give her an all new costume).. anyway this is just a random thought.

wow glad this thread is still going, love the games here... Battle of olympus was an awesome game I had a lot of fun with that one, Pocky & Rocky was a great little shooter, Golden Sun was great, the puzzles were satisfying and the story was fantastic XD (though the ds one kinda fell short of its predecessors awesomeness, though it was still kinda fun). keep 'em coming XD Oh and has anyone heard of little samson? it looks interesting... just wondering if anyone has actually played it. sadly I didn't

Hey peoples, if any of you played Dragon's Dogma, you know how awesome the game is... for those of you who missed it and have a spare 30 bucks it now available on steam. Now if you are a fan you might have heard there is a Dragon's Dogma Online, a free to play version... but sadly it is only for japan There is a partition for it to be released out here in the north America and Europe (if you want to sign it click here) Just wanted to give fans a heads up

what about a different idle stance with different weapons.... just once and awhile, she plays with her weapon... if it's a special weapon like an ice or fire weapon she can look at the flames or ice dance on the weapon. or if the weapon has a spirit inside of it she can pull out the weapon and let the spirit out for a bit... to play?
whatever they do, I just think it would be cool if there are weapon specific idle animation.

I said this in the weapon suggestions thread: Jun 15, 2015 7:00:33 GMT 1 ChucklesTheJester said: I really hope all the different weapon types have an entirely unique and specific hitboxes. The different kinds of swords, at least. For example, if broadswords had a quick overhead attack arc close to the body, similar to the rod and mace-type weapons in Symphony of the Night, with rapier's quick, long-reaching straight stab with a narrow hitbox, and katana's "under-hand" strike, Dawn of Sorrow style. A "straight slash" kind of weapon would just be pretty much redundant with the rapier's stab so it could be safely left out. Or reserved for short swords. Are they really confirmed? I didn't see anything about any "short swords" being confirmed in any official material. Is THIS what you mean by stances? If so, then yeah, I completely agree. actually I think this is why I created this thread... I forgot who came up with the suggestion (guess it was you, so thank you). but I want more than just hit boxes, I want her (and all the characters) to move differently with different types of weapons, from her being battle ready, standing to walking and fighting... and maybe a few surprising dual wielding stances (not many) enough for people to look for them by trying out different weapon combinations.
