illasera Not odd at all. "People running away" is just your perception, not some objective truth. There are still people that will occasionally ask if it's possible to back the game, and some us weren't quite able to upgrade to the tier we wanted before the campaign ended. Either way, the community has raised money on occasion outside of the normal Kickstarter/Fangamer structure, and it seems that this would be a possible route to make everyone - if not happy - at least compensated for the inconvenient turn of events. As for the SotN comment (I'm not sure why you brought that up, but I'll address it anyway), the game was developed in a relatively short time by a small number of core developers and multiple games worth of pre-existing assets. That seems to be something people either forget or conveniently overlook. Iga was able to make games on a relatively low budget because he had nearly a decade worth of art assets as his disposal. It would have taken considerably longer to make a game of SotN's scope and detail without that head start. XombieMike I agree that there's no way to tell for sure whether any given backer is a Linux/Mac user or not, but that becomes less relevant when the end result balances out anyway. It's why I brought up transfers instead of an outright community funded refund(which has other problems anyway). If the project isn't impacted either way, it doesn't matter that much if a couple of people slip through who shouldn't have. And if the person funding the refund is compensated in kind through an upgrade, then there should be no dissatisfaction there either.

So I had something of an idea. I don't know if it's a realistic solution or not, but it's something I thought I'd throw out there. Refunds are tricky for multiple reasons mentioned already. But what about transfers? For example, I know some people(myself included) who either missed out on backing for whatever reason or wanted to upgrade their tier and couldn't get together the funds in time. Depending on the number of people requesting a refund, might it be possible for one person to pay out someone's backing amount and get that as credit for an upgrade in their own tier or addons?
It's pretty unorthodox, and the only other case I can think of where people have bought out other people's addons in a crowdfunded game is Star Citizen, but if the only barriers to refunds are technical ones, this seems one way of getting around it without risk to the project itself.

The fourth and final point I would make, is exactly what you said. Not my problem. And this is why I support you less than I supported the Vita and Wii U backers. All had legitimate grievances, but only the Linux crowd(and they're even worse on the Linux gaming subreddit) have willed harm to the developers disproportionate to the grievance itself. At this point, my impression of the kind of people who frequent those places is similar to those who frequent hardcore feminist communities: unpleasant, unreasonable, and hopefully unrepresentative of the platform at large.

I think that the affected people should get refunds, but frankly, the way that some people are coming across in these threads almost makes me want to change my opinion on that. "Screw 'em if they give out more refunds than is warranted as long as I get mine" is kind of a tough stance to support.

It is what it is and I at least hope the team is able to work well, with a good pace, on the project. I'm kinda sad I feel almost indifferent to the game nowadays, which in a way is even worse than me hating it. But yeah, I'll just read some updates and play it when it's out I guess. The relative disinterest has ironically made waiting much easier, even through delays. But I'm not sure how to feel about that. P.S.: the Albedo-style fan art for Dominique is sweet. As a veteran of many Kickstarter projects in the past, I can tell you that this is perfectly natural. It's easy to maintain a feeling of excitement when the updates are "Big Features!" and frequent requests for community input. Not so easy when each update is basically "we're still working on this." Cut platforms aside, it's not surprising that the game would be pretty low on our radar right now, and it will likely stay that way until the big marketing push near release. Speaking of cut platforms, I will say that this does suck for anyone who uses those as their primary, but probably not as much as some people think. Native OS support would have been fantastic, but pretty much anyone who plays on Linux and related OS is accustomed to playing non-supported games through Wine, so I think they'll be alright. That isn't really an excuse for the developers though, and I hope they've learned from this for future projects. Supporting all available platforms sounds great, but there's a reason it's rare, and it's not just because developers can't be bothered. Being a bit more conservative when announcing platforms and then looking for ways to expand is better than starting with everything and then contracting the list later.

By pure luck alone. It's Welsh, so it isn't actually intended to be spoken by the human tongue. ("kahareth" seems close enough) EDIT: changed the approximate maybe possibly in the vicinity of correct pronunciation after reading this Welsh pronunciation guide.

Also using Chrome. Here's what the Demo theme looks like on the new URL for me: All the other themes work, and the Demo theme works in the old URL.

I would say to wait until 505 Games or Iga himself says something. This could be accurate or it could be a case where like where some site like Gamestop or Amazon jump the gun and or receives a miscommunication. GOG isn't the publisher or developer, so don't rely on them for news or PR announcements. I hope it's true, but until 505 or ArtPlay jump in, it's better not to treat it as official.

Agreed, but i'd also add that we have played the demo of this game, and gameplay wise it's hit all the marks for me. If they're taking the time to polish art and presentation then i'm more than confident we'll get the result we all anticipate. No we won't. Cause some of us anticipated a Vita game. That's not what they were talking about, and you know it. Look, you have an entire thread about the dropped Vita version, and I'm not touching it because I get the disappointment in having something you wanted and were looking forward to ripped away from you. But at the same time, could we maybe extend similar courtesies and not crap all over the people who are still enthusiastic about the project?

I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand, different weapons are clearly geared to be useful in different circumstances and play styles. The whip has a broad vertical range that it strikes, yet it is slower than some other weapons. The katana has really fast initial strikes, but it's slow recovery time makes it bad for multiple fast enemies like the bat clusters(and it has no downward strike). And guns are basically like shard abilities with a different mana bar. So being able to switch between them quickly can help you vary your play style.
On the other hand, the absence of a quick switch ability pushes toward careful pairing of weapon choice and shard abilities to cover more situations. Technically, it doesn't matter since the game pauses when you go to menu, allowing you to switch what you want when you want, but in practice, no one wants to have to go to menu to switch out equipment more often than they have to. So most people are going to find a combination that works for them and keep that going until either the situation demands a change or new equipment or shard abilities are gained.

dareka Pure Miriam If we're talking common elements, I'd say that multi-winged imagery would be a better candidate, as it can be fit into multiple contexts better than a couch. Add in the particle effects, and it would be easily recognizable regardless of what Miriam sits on. One of the benefits of using 3D models over 2D sprites is that animations are relatively cheap(particularly when multiple costumes are involved). While most places in the castle could have a standardized save room, some - such as the ones I mentioned before - might warrant more thematic substitutions.

Enkeria Context sensitive save rooms would be fantastic. I actually think it would be interesting if they played on the whole wine glass thing from SotN and gave her a drink at each save point. On the Galleon, maybe there's a bottle of rum at a table with a stool, perhaps some other rooms have wine or tea, or what have you. A chapel area might have her pray, and that Japanese area might have a shrine where she cleanses herself. Something to give each area some character.

From the announcement, my guess is that the fixes for the bugs they found ended up being more complex than they initially thought. That can certainly happen in software development(hence why you often see change logs listing fixes for what they thought they fixed the previous update), and would explain why they would need to delay by a week when they hoped they wouldn't need to delay at all. Just as an aside, and irrespective of timing, I'd like to give a shout out to Angel-Corlux on the announcement itself. We have an entire thread devoted to how a delay announcement should be handled if necessary, and the one for the demo today is pretty much spot on from a wording standpoint. I didn't really expect anything less, but it's still nice to have one's confidence justified.

But does the amount really matter? Either what they're doing is wrong or it isn't. And is it really any different than someone selling some obscure game cartridge for as much as people will pay for it? In both cases, the opportunity was there for anyone to buy it when it came out, but now the item in question is rare and worth more.
The way I see it, either someone will pay the seller's price, or they won't. If they do, then the seller is only selling at what collectors are currently willing to pay. If they don't then the seller was asking too much and will need to either lower their asking price or wait until the items have more value. It's no different than any other collector's item, and inherently different than scalping.
