This may not be much use, but during my attempts to find bugs in the game, I did note that backstepping alone is not the fastest mode of travel in the demo. A carefully-timed mix of backstep and crouch is some 5 to 10% faster. In practice, I want to say it's too challenging to pull off efficiently, but certainly when the day comes for TAS runs, I expect to see a lot of it. Noticed this too that you can cancel the backdash with a crouch. Thing is, I think it may be faster frame wise. Kinda like how in Super Metroid, you move faster frame wise by repeatedly pressing the L and R triggers when running. It's probably faster than that, but not by much. We need to do some testing on the matter and actually see what is faster....and optimal. I don't see a technique like this used all too often unless you have like a long hallway to get through and no enemies in the way.

Some things I found during my sessions with the keyboard. And take note that some of these things apply to just the game itself, not keyboard.
-Keyboard is more difficult due to the key bindings and having no way (as of now) to change them. -Cannot perform very quick attacks (shown by runners using a controller) due to having to use the left mouse button which done repetitively can be unresponsive. -Swapping to the sword in the menu takes some memory to get used due to the position of the key bindings: S to go down. Z to confirm. And X to go back. Keyboard looks like this: -----S --Z-X You have no idea how much I've entered menu got to the weapons and then went back due to X being under S. You push Z twice, push S, then Z, then X 2 times. Not to mention my Windows Key is right under Z which is also the backdash button.... -Whenever a tutorial message pops up, Miriam loses all input on the keyboard until after the message is confirmed. For instance, if you hold a directional button, message pops up, you hit Z to confirm, and she won't move until you let go of the directional button and press it again. So there's extra effort in maintaining your momentum during tutorial messages. Her backdash, thankfully, won't be canceled. It will continue til the end of the dash like normal. -There seems to be something wonky with Miriam and stairs descending. If she backdashes onto it, at somepoint during her dash, she will cancel and fall for a few frames. Noticed this during room transitions that have stairs going down.
I'll see if I find anymore things regarding Keyboard_Demo% Runs

kipz and jumpman Wow.... you guys are insane with that muscle memory on the boss. Well done. As for me I Not to brag at all got myself a 3:18 just this night (3:13 without loading) Except I'm on a Keyboard..... soooo that means no muscle memory freedom for me. Oh well. I'll try for that sub 3. I know I won't ever come close to you too, but maybe I'll be top in using the keyboard who knows?

Also to what @zankoukanshokai found. I too found this to be a problem especially in this room during speedrunning. Its most noticeable here.

Great podcast as always Mike.
It would be interesting to talk about the neat tricks in speedrunning the demo. Maybe guest in the future: Romscout or one of the people who posted their runs in the speedrun thread? Unless you'd rather save that for when say we get more of the game out. Either way, your podcast your choice. I would also be willing to be on the podcast to talk about this. That would be cool too

Even In Castlevania Aria of Sorrow, getting up to lvl 99 takes too much time lol so i try to imagine the demo. Maybe 1 full week? lol Probably LOL. Though the nice things about Aria, and especially Dawn (since getting more of a certain kind of soul increased the power of said soul) was that you sat and collected souls for hours (If you're me) so many so that you level up a TON. By the end of getting 9 Great Axe Armor souls, I was well into the 70's, and well into the 90's before I actually beat the game. EDIT: Just loaded up my old Dawn of Sorrow game, and my character is: LV. 97 Soul Completion: 100% Don't remind me how bs the soul drop system is in DoS. It took me 27 minutes of pure grinding just to get a 2 star soul for a weapon upgrade..... The whole idea of grinding to 99 in the demo just seems like bragging rights. I would imagine that at 99 you can just 2 shot the boss....

I dunno if its his PB but romscout just posted this run. This is what you have to beat people. Good luck! <3 Wow.... Thats impressive. From the flow of movement, to the attack pattern on the boss. This may be a near perfect run. Romscout doesn't seem to make a lot of mistakes. He gets through the ship very fast and simple, killing no one on the way. So the level up does lose time.... And that boss. Wow I didn't think you could just hop 2 cm off the ground and get a swing in.

What do you guys use to capture and also as a timer? I use Xsplit Live Broadcaster as my capture device. Its free for recording and for livestreaming. Timer I use WSplit. --------------------------------------- As I have said before, I would attempt this night and get an under 4 minute run. Delievered: (not sure how to post the video like you all are doing so yeah) RunStarted the timer about when the game started and when you push start on the menu because there are different loading times. I ended at the thanks for playing message. All and all 3:50 ain't bad on a keyboard. Plenty of mistakes and not a smooth path to getting the exp to level up. Also looking into the difference of canceling the backdash vs the regular backdash and seeing which is faster.

Finally get to attempt the demo speedrun tonight. I'll try for a run. But honestly, with a keyboard it will be a challenge. I did just do it in under 5 minutes, but I wasn't recording nor was I timing myself. I'll be back later to have a under 4 minute run. It ain't that hard

So we have confirmed a back dash, crouch slide, regular running. Since no double jump that means no jump kick in the demo. This is all very interesting in what I'll be working with when the demo flies out. Going to be testing in a straight room to see what is faster. Though, thankfully, I will be playing on a keyboard so that does mean I have limited output of speed. I'm faster with a controller. I needs that demo naow. MR. NUMBER 11 SETS HIS SIGHTS ON THE SPEEDIEST OF BLOODSTAINED SPEEDRUNS! WITNESS HISTORY IN THE MAKING AS HE LAYS DOWN HIS BOLD CLAIMS! I mean I was number 11th for awhile. I'm 21st now since people picked up Axiom. Someone recently just got world record on that. So congrats to them. Though I am looking to drop Axiom once the demo and the beta testing begins. So we'll see who will speedrun with me.

I knew he'd agree to talk about Bloodstained. He's been mentioning it a little bit on his twitter. So having heard the guy from AGDQ 2016 and from my friend GVirus, I am excited to hear the guy on the BCB. Kinda wish we also could have Dan on the BCB along with Tom, but I guess this is fine.
1. In your recent adventure with IGA (as shown by Goobsausage), How interested is IGA in Axiom?
2. What made you want to include a Speedrun mode for the game?

It's weird... The video looks very promising, but a lot of folks I've asked about the game have had very mixed feelings about the game. I went ahead and got it, so we'll see. Funny though, one of the negative comments I remember reading on Steam for it was that it only took the guy 9 hours to beat the game. To me that's a pretty lame excuse not to like a game. If it only took him 0.5-1.5 hours, ok I'd give him that that's a bit short. But 9 hours? Come on. This isn't Final Fantasy after all. I haven't played Axiom Verge, but I'm a Tom Happ fan because of this game and watching LuckPercentSRL speed run it. The music is good too. Tom made some appearances during the Bloodstained Kickstarter to lend his support. In fact if you go to the comments section of the latest update you can see that Tom still follows the project. I would love to talk to Tom about Bloodstained and Axiom Verge on a Bloodstained Community Broadcast, but would you all be interested in an episode like that? I also have some interest in Dan Adleman's involvement with Axiom Verge and the project he is currently working with. Oh totally Mike! I would love to hear a podcast with Verge's own Tom Hap. The dude is a joy to hear as he's very open to talk about either the game itself or other projects around. He'd make a great member on the podcast. Maybe you could do a duo with him and Dan at the same time? Maybe spice things up a notch? Its up to you. And if anyone is looking to play Axiom. I'd highly recommend it. If you loved the Metroid series and wanted your fix since Nintendo won't give us a decent one for the time being then pick up the game. Its a gem to play (considering I speedrun the game).

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright (just got it yesterday). 3DS Lost Planet. PC Sometime finishing Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. PC Freedom Planet (Carol and Mila playthroughs). PC
Some games returning again. But its the summer so I gotta play and finally beat them
