Sorry if I'm a little late to this conversation, but I just wanted to briefly mention that I was physically there for this interview, and I don't remember Mana ever saying that line about "thought about the modern social movement in America" or whatever, I could be wrong of course, but I didn't hear that.
Having said that, I checked up on this just for my personal curiosity, and if it had been said, it sounds like something that got lost in translation, because Iga was talking about how female leads in general weren't viewed as taking a big risk anymore, since they were more and more common even in big name games. "Movement" in the sense of people's perceptions, so to speak.
He wasn't talking about any feminism movement or anything else regarding social activism. If anyone looks at even what we've revealed so far, both in terms of character design, bosses etc., and the first thing they think is "oh yeah, this definitely panders to social activists / feminists / etc." well...I mean I don't even know what I would say to that haha.
Iga only cares about one thing when it comes to this: delivering on his artistic vision to create the game he's been dreaming up in his head all these years. Every conversation I've heard him talk about his reasoning for choosing a female lead was purely market & art driven, not driven by activism or social movements or anything else.
Anyway, hope that helps, regardless of whether you prefer a female or male protagonist.

Rant/ Ok, this will be my last update as my enthusiasm for this process has reached an all time low. I finally got an update tonight, Sept 10, for the hounds of hell tier. They are asking for a name and description for my pet with the deadline to reply being Sept 14... Less than 1 week notice and with a disclaimer that if they don't like the description they will change it. No discussion, no back and forth. For reference, I last heard from them(Mana) on July 20th in response to a question. I followed up on July 21, and after hearing nothing for over a month reached out again on August 29th... No response until this extremely rushed request for final info. I truly hope the game is amazing, but I certainly feel like my contribution has been an after thought. Please prove me wrong Iga. /Rant Hey Thomas!
Thank you for being such a passionate backer and supporting the game at such a high level! (always amazing to see )
I'm really sorry to hear that there's been some difficulty with communication for your hounds of hell, or that you've felt like your feedback and wishes aren't being heard.
You can count on me to fix that, all double quick time-like.
I'm going to send you a brief personal message with my email address immediately after I post this reply. Tell me everything regarding the details of your pet/requests in your own words and I will make sure to speak to the team & Mana about it and make sure we're not ramming your desires down a conveyor belt, so to speak.
I rarely speak on behalf of Iga, if ever, but having seen how much he cares and is humbled by every single backer and fan, I feel confident in saying that he would say the exact same thing I just did.
And if it took a while to hear back from Mana, rest assured it's not because she doesn't care, she lives and breathes this stuff like me, I'm positive it's just because of how insanely busy she gets or a simple case of an email slipping through the cracks.
If anyone else is having similar issues or concerns please don't hesitate to reach out to me, the last thing I want is for some of our biggest, oldest supporters to even FEEL like they're not being taken care of, much less have that actually happen.!

I have a new question. Why are Peter's arms so big? In the E3 interview he did with Shack News, most of the time I was thinking "damn this guy lifts". lol I had no idea Peter was in such great shape, he definitely works out and although meeting him was already amazing because of all he's achieved (and is still achieving) when it comes to games, seeing how disciplined he must be when it comes to working out was inspiring on its own!

gunlord500 My pleasure, and great post, you made a lot of good points that I didn't because otherwise my post would have become a Homeric Epic of its own...As for having my work cut out for me, I say bring it on! Whether it's clarifying and assuaging concerns to loyal fans like in this thread, or mercilessly stamping out rumors with gleeful satisfaction, I say bring it on. CastleDan Haha thanks bud, I'm happy I could relieve some of your concerns, and I really appreciate your kind words, I try my best! Don't ever worry about talking or expressing concerns. No one is perfect and that includes us, and that's exactly why we want to hear all the feedback everyone has, the last thing we want is for loyal fans to "swallow" things they don't like or are worried about, and then when that tipping point is reached, lose faith in us/the game or feel like their voice isn't heard. For my part I promise to always be honest and as transparent as possible, no matter what. Keep in mind though, that also means I can't promise that my clarifications will always make everyone feel better, sometimes it may happen that we'll need to do or announce things that may not be well received, but I hope that even in those times, you will all try to keep faith in us, and know that everything we do is to deliver the best game possible to you.
I prefer and believe in this method more than what certain other publishers do, either being silent or outright lying to players just to boost sales as much as possible, player loyalty and brand recognition be damned. I believe in it not only on moral grounds (it's what I like to see as a gamer) but also on business/financial grounds. Gamers/customers are already smart, and they're only getting smarter. The only thing in my opinion a publisher accomplishes by spinning and lying is temporarily (maybe) boosting sales but burning themselves and their brand in the long run. I won't name names, but I think we ALL know examples of who I'm talking about... freddyk Happy I could be of assistance, and indeed, interviews can be double edged swords, there are a ton of thing that can go wrong, something can be misunderstood, misquoted, you can happen to have a biased journalist (not saying that's what happened here) among other things. But no worries, I'm here to stay! And ever since I played "Brave Firefighters: Real Life Heroes" by Sega, I knew I loved putting out fires.
Dengojin Legend status?haha thanks ReySol My pleasure! Yeah totally agree with you, Igavanias are definitely pieces of art, and the visuals and music are a huge draw.
Galamoth purifyweirdshard Indeed Galamoth is correct regarding Ayami Kojima's involvement, but everyone can rest assured that Bloodstained is remaining faithful to the artstyle and quality of design that Iga wants and is accustomed to. And there will be a lot of surprises related to art/design once everyone sees more of the game.
as for Mana I've already said how amazing I think her art is, and it's no surprise everyone feels the same way. I can't go into too much detail but I will say that she's an integral part of what we do, I'm very grateful to work with her, and as far as her part to play in the future generation of Igavania torch bearers......oh will you look at the time? I need to get some sleep! Goodnight everyone!

Greetings, army of the night!
Bloodstained at PAX West 2017 was a success! What did we go there to do? Glad I asked!...
Now don't go expecting pictures of a 2 story tall Miriam statue or a gigantic party or anything, my plan for PAX West was to get the most benefit while not dedicating some huge chunk of the budget...and we did that! Definitely no "Ant Simulator" shenanigans here. (wait...can I make that joke?)
That said, these were some of our goals:
- Stay no more than 48 hours on site, to minimize Iga's time away from home/working on the game.
- Attend the event and be accessible to the public/fans via panels & meet and greets.
- Give as many interviews as possible to press/media behind the scenes.
- Continue to improve, or in some cases establish, our relationships with partners who are helping to make Bloodstained great!
So, on to the results! (and pics)
Did we stay less than 48 hours? Almost to the hour, we operated with near-Swiss precision. Except, you know...not as much chocolate. Or gold.
Did we attend the event and the "Crowdfunding for Indies to AAA Titles" panel? You bet! Unfortunately our video equipment malfunctioned (sorry), but I have the next best thing, check out some pictures we took.
Breakfast time! Got an early start before Mana and Iga because I had some work to do. So incredibly tasty, strawberry-orange juice (who knew that was a thing!), a bowl of mixed fresh fruit, and a bunch of other things I tasted, but I couldn't eat all of it. Except that bread pudding in a tin...omg so tasty....505 Games definitely treats its devs (and its own) right!
Meet the panelists! They all laugh and joke around as they meet and greet each other. From left to right: Mana Ikeda (ArtPlay), Koji Igarashi (ArtPlay), Peter Bartholow (CEO-LabZero Games), Brandon Adler (Producer-Obsidian Entertainment), Josh Sawyer (Designer-Obsidian Entertainment) and Victor Lucas (Host-EPN.tv)
Mana hard at work translating for Iga! I can tell from Peter's expression he's thinking the same thing I do when I hear Japanese: "Where's the subtitles? This isn't like my anime?!"
Fans eagerly lined up to ask questions of all the panelists, believe it or not, Mighty No. 9 only came up 347 times! (Ok not really, just once).
Once the panel was over, there were so many people that wanted to pose for pictures with Iga, I lost count! I somehow ended up taking pictures with everyone's phones, but I did snap a few with my own!
You can almost see what that fella is thinking..."Sooo awesoooome" (Dude in the shorts seems to be enjoying himself too)
On to the interviews, with the help of Mana translating, Iga was able to give almost a dozen press and media interviews, ranging 30-60 minutes each, in a single day! They'll be popping up online in the days to come as PAX West comes to a close.
Finally, the team and I met face to face with a few partners we work with! One of these included the fine folks at Fangamer, and let me tell you, they are super awesome people, and I was already happy to be working with them before, but now I'm even more convinced that we're going to kick some serious *** when it comes to Bloodstained. We talked about Kickstarter plans, creating and delivering the rewards, and some other juicy things...(muahahas quietly)
We also met and talked extensively with some partners that I can't divulge just yet, because if I tell you who they were it kinda ruins the surprise. Rest assured though, that even when at events I never stop working to make sure you all get the most exciting and awesome things out of this Bloodstained launch campaign, and of course that the game gets the coolest stuff too!
A big thank you to Iga and Mana for working tirelessly and being so professional throughout it all, and to my colleagues at 505 Games who helped set it up and worked the event with me!
We really enjoyed everyone who came to say hello and meet us, and to those of you who couldn't because of distance etc., well don't worry...there's a LOT more amazing things you never would have expected coming along...

Hello everyone!
While I appreciate that doubts and worries are natural to have when preconceived expectations/impressions don't turn out to be how we might envision them, allow me to assuage your concerns.
First I'd like to clarify one thing; where the interview states that "She isn’t creating all the soundtracks, but her music and her creation is the main theme.", that doesn't mean that she only made the main theme, it means that Noisy Croak is working to produce music using Michiru Yamane's work as their main theme and "guiding philosophy", so to speak.
Another clarification is that Michiru Yamane and her work has in no way been demoted, supplanted, or reduced in scope from what was originally planned during the Kickstarter.
Michiru Yamane is obviously a crucial, foundational part of what makes the music and sound design of Bloodstained what it is. However, she's not doing everything on her own. In this case, the Noisy Croak team is another piece of that puzzle and they are producing high quality music/sfx under watchful guidance and feedback. Also, as mentioned by Brainiac in this thread, they have worked on Castlevania and with IGA before.
And of course, don't forget that the game will have fully orchestrated tracks and there will be signed copies of the soundtrack for certain backers, something that Michiru Yamane wouldn't do if she didn't feel it fully represented her work and music design as a whole. On top of all that, like with any part of the game, IGA is extremely hands on, making sure that everything meets his very high standard of quality.
To anyone that may feel like this is somehow a "less pure" version of what they expected, the best way I can fully explain this is the hypothetical example of someone backing a game "made by Koji Igarashi" and thinking that means he's literally personally sitting at a computer, doing all the dev work on his own. Obviously, that would be not only be impossible, but also bad for the game for a vast multitude of reasons, reasons like dev time, burning out, and the lack of a collaborative, peer reviewed process to name only a few obvious ones.
Furthermore, anyone that knows me, knows that I believe 100% that video games are works of art (whether they're good or not is another issue), but unlike the masterpieces painted by the masters of times long past, the works of art that are modern video games often require teams, and sometimes small armies of extremely talented individuals, working under the leadership of a master. So if anything, everyone should be elated that Michiru Yamane and IGA have at their disposal these talented people to work under them and bring their artistic vision to life, I know I am.
Finally, if everything I've said still doesn't assuage your concerns, that's fine, I know just how much every single one of us loves this project and wants it to be a success, and how that passion may even lead some among us to declare the game a failure or a disappointment when doubts or concerns arise, even though we've literally read (maybe) the first page of the Homeric Epic that is Bloodstained. But all I would say is to have faith, and if you can't have faith, then to at least have patience.
Once you see more of the game, and in this case HEAR more of it, I'm very confident that the few concerns expressed in this thread will become a chorus (no pun intended) of jubilation and adoration for the amazing sound design and music that is the end result of what's actually in the game.
And my apologies for a bit of a long post, this is just me being as open, honest and transparent as I can with everyone.
TL,DR: Everything's fine, nothing's changed.
lol

Aw geez you guys! purifyweirdshard XombieMikeSo nice of you to wish me a happy birthday! No joke, I'll tell you what I had to tell two family members already, since I'm leading the charge on Bloodstained publishing efforts, I have to think of a different birthday wish when I blow out the candles tonight lol! But seriously, it's my absolute pleasure and honor to be lucky enough to be in this role, to get to know everyone here and hang out with like minded Igavaniacs, and be on this journey to launch together! It's already been so much fun and the TRAIN HASN'T EVEN LEFT THE STATION P.S. - How awesome is that psychedelic cat?!? haha

A nice little morsel I must say! Every time I hear "Iga-san was very happy with the progress" I get a little more cozy and confident, good to hear. Also, AAAAAA I WANT THAT FATE/ZERO MERCH! side note, just wanted to say that avatar is rad Angel-Corlux - Thanks! XombieMike was nice enough to put it together for me, and the artist (Kenshiro549) is credited if you hover over it.
Lestaroth
Thanks! It's always my pleasure to communicate with all of you, and although I won't have have huge sexy updates every time, it's just me trying to keep everyone as involved as possible and show as much transparency as I can.
And indeed a HUGE thank you to Mana I had heard the stories of how great she is and how hard she works but seeing her in action was something else! Entire days translating in real time, complex plans, stats and my lame questions (lol) and she never flinched! Plus I learned she's working on lots of other cool stuff...

I didn't notice the "leak" on the business card lol HYPE TIME! Enkeria It seems more like some crafting essence than a mask? BTW that figure is Kanade Tachibana from anime Angel Beats! if you're interested Angel-Corlux . Typical Key stuff, makes you cry no matter what. Hello there Elfina!
Yeah I'm surprised more people didn't catch on hehe.
It's not a crafting material either...
Thanks for the reference! I'm going to start watching that anime as soon as I finish Hellsing Ultimate (I had only watched the original, didn't know about the more modern one)
And yeah, more tears for anime...lemme get my feelz ready

I could imagine those ice cream sandwiches, and believe you when you say that both the food was amazing and that the project is going great. About "He was even excited to incorporate a few requests", was that yours, ours or everyones? And I see a gun there, flintlock type? That business card have like.. A dagger or a sword too and.. A mask? Could it be about crafting guys? Oh, and I can't remember Miriam having something RED in her hair..? Hope to read more! Even though your week are "boring SKYPE" all day The requests were mine, and they're a combination of things I know the community will want, as well as things that they may not have asked for directly but will be very happy to have. Key Not this time, but I will next time!purifyweirdshard Not angel and demon outfits...something entirely different, but good guess!
And yeah I definitely love holy attacks / items / gear etc. in video games, and feel your pain, since it's something so rare in games. But remember, that's just my personal preference, so don't take my tastes/etc. as confirmation of something being (or not being) in the game. Also...what you think is a mask...isn't!

Hello everyone!Angel here, your friendly, (slightly) jet lagged Igavaniac responsible for the publishing success of Bloodstained at 505 Games. Last week I and a few other colleagues from 505 Games traveled all the way to Tokyo, Japan to visit and work with Igarashi-san, the ArtPlay team, and DICO. Now while I can't discuss the vast majority of what was covered or worked on, I come bearing gifts! Read on for answers to some questions I couldn't answer during the recent live-stream interview, sharing what I can about what was accomplished, pictures and stories from the trip, and last but not least, hints of things to come!
PENDING QUESTIONS ANSWEREDNow keep in mind, I got all the answers I wanted and more, but I can't share everything with everyone (yet). But here are some morsels that will hopefully satisfy some curiosities/concerns:
- "The Bell LOL" - Igarashi-san and Mana both laughed when I brought this up, the team is aware of this concern and it is definitely a case of "WIP-itis". Basically long story short, some of the textures weren't even in yet, much less polish passes etc., so no reason to be concerned.
- "What happened to the starfish enemy?" - The Dullahammer Head did indeed take the place of the starfish, but that doesn't mean they won't be in the game somewhere else...
- "Background Lighting Changed?" - The cool lighting effects that we've all noticed in previous screenshots are not gone. Lighting is just something that is still very much "WIP"(work in progress) and you will see those effects and others return. (I saw a new effect and it was gorgeous...)
- "Can I do a clean start on Nightmare difficulty once I unlock it?" - Yes, once you unlock Nightmare difficulty, you don't have to bring over your gear and advantages from new game+, you will have the option to do so, however.
THE TRIP WAS A SUCCESS!
Everyone will be happy to know that all the work objectives of the trip were accomplished with flying colors.
I won't repeat exactly what Igarashi-san said because it's not my place to do so, but suffice it to say that he was very pleased with the work/plans presented to him, and I happily incorporated all of his feedback into the plans / projects etc.
He was even excited to incorporate a few requests, things that I KNOW everyone here is going to love...
We also worked closely with DICO, although that was more on the side of my excellent colleague who's a producer at 505. (one of the many amazing people working on the game)
PICTURES AND STORY TIME
We were busy most of the time focusing on the work, but I did manage to take a few pictures here and there...
Innocuous enough, but I thought it was pretty cool that I was standing in front of the building plaque that listed the ArtPlay office...
I have exchanged business cards with Igarashi-san, attaining the rare game item: "gold foil business card".
Proof that it was Igarashi-san's business card. Don't worry, I've removed any personal contact info!
We join the team for a casual lunch...can you spot Igarashi-san?
Some free time, so I visit Akihabara! Check out the crazy long lines because it's "manga day" when all the new manga editions get released. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful in locating those fairy familiars for sale in the billboard you see in the picture. Maybe next trip.
Tons of shops with awesome collectibles, clothes and toys! Came across this statue of an anime angel with a sword tucked in her sleeve, no idea what it's from, but I'm going to find out!
HINTS OF THINGS TO COME
My colleagues and I were shown a lot of amazing progress and work the team is doing, and we can't wait to reveal more info and details in the near future. In the meantime...look forward to a KickStarter update coming soon, even more news down the road after that, and always remember to keep your eyes open no matter what...and ears...
P.S. - All the food was amazing, but I fell in love with ice cream sandwiches you can pick up from any convenience store...so crunchy on the outside, fluffy and light on the inside! :3

EnkeriaYeah maybe I'll try using a different color or something, still trying new things, but I think that my user avatar and username tag should be enough more or less.

Ahahahaha yaaaaas Your life is about to get a whole lot more interesting, eh purifyweirdshard ...? I believe what we are witnessing is the work of someone's passive-aggressive side coming out...
Ah no, that's my doing, testing out having some sort of tag (In this case "official") when a thread has a response from an official ArtPlay/505 Games member. It's supposed to let people know that there's a message "straight from the horse's mouth", so to speak. If it doesn't work or ends up feeling off we'll just stop using it, no worries. Edit: In fact, I've removed it as it affected the entire thread and not my individual posts, making it look like the thread was created by official staff. Oh well, experiment ended, lol. May still use it for threads I actually create though.

Hey everyone, it's only natural to be super passionate about concerns and/or hopes you have for the game, but my only suggestion would be not to worry too much about things that haven't been fully presented to you in an official manner yet. Food is an element of the game, one of many, but it's intended to be fun and a small part of the game, so I hope anyone concerned about cooking/food/etc. derailing the spirit or enjoyment of the game has their fears assuaged.

I appreciate the enthusiasm purifyweirdshard! But remember, unless we officially confirm/announce something, always, always, ALWAYS temper expectations and don't assume things will be a certain way. The team and I are working as hard as we can to make sure everything about Bloodstained is as exciting and satisfying as possible, and it's ok to speculate and hope, but don't take things for confirmed or guaranteed unless they've been officially announced!
