UPDATE: Join us in the Discord or on the new official Twitch channel as we record the podcast live on Thursday at 7pm CST. We will be answering questions previously asked and may have enough time to do some live interaction!
I'm excited to announce 505 Games is now actively involved in the Bloodstained community! Please welcome Angel-Corlux to the team! Angel is a key member who will elevate Bloodstained's branding to it's full potential. Expect to see him active often here and everywhere fans can be found across the internet.
The next Bloodstained Community Broadcast will feature Angel as the guest host, so please start asking for questions and topics you would like us to talk about. I'm sure some of your own questions will be answered directly even before then.
When I discovered 505 Games had agreed to publish Bloodstained I was very excited for such great news. The way games are presented to the public is extremely important to it's overall success. Let's show Angel what kind of amazing Army of the Night he already has at his disposal to spread the word about IGA's passion project. Big things can happen with the backing of such an involved and friendly publisher when coupled with an energized fan base. Positively promoting the game to others will help us grow, and in my brief talks with Angel I can already tell he's great for that role and will be a good example on how to cultivate the best fandom a game could hope for.
Welcome, Angel and please tell us more about yourself!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome and hello to everyone!
As XombieMike mentioned, I'm with 505 Games and I'm the "brand owner" for Bloodstained. That essentially means that I'm ultimately responsible for the "publishing success" of Bloodstained. Everything from crafting brand/marketing plans and cool events, all the way down to making sure that the Kickstarter backer lapel pins come out juuuust right.
I've been absolutely enamored with games my entire life, from racing against my little sister in Mario Kart to helping desperate phantoms git gud by vanquishing Darkeater Midir in Dark Souls III, video games, their art, music and the worlds they let us live in have been an enormous part of my life.
Castlevania in particular, has always been near and dear to my heart, and when I got my hands on Symphony of the Night, I found myself lost in this amazing universe where the atmosphere and immersion was only matched by the engrossing and addictive gameplay, so much so that I still come back to it every now and then to play it again.
So it's not an exaggeration to say that as a fan of Igarashi-san and someone who (like all of us) REALLY wants to play Bloodstained, it's a privilege and an honor to have this role.
The future is going to bring a LOT of awesome news and reveals, and although there's a TON of exciting stuff on the way that I can't talk about for obvious reasons, I'm super pumped to be a part of this amazing community and get to know you all!
Oh and an enormous thank you to XombieMike for everything he's done for this community, as well as all the moderators/volunteers and all of the amazing fan contributions, whether it's some of the cool threads I've seen or simply stunning fan art, it never ceases to amaze!
Welcome, as others have said. This will certainly make contacting someone at 505 easier should I get a possible in at another local convention. Now I have an alternative contact...presuming you're not the same person I was put in touch with last time.
There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!
Good to have you, Angel. Your own experiences and the impact gaming and the associated artistry/storytelling has had upon your life reminds me of my own love of the hobby (or lifestyle, if you prefer :P).
My humble suggestion would only be as follows: Please remember to communicate the unique flavor of this game in whatever mediums you use for presentation. The one shortcoming I've seen in too many advertising campaigns is that they try to make the product everything to everyone, and consequently it comes across as bland, unfocused, and inevitably forgettable.
As I'm sure you'll acknowledge (you've said as much already), Iga-san's games are, I believe above all else, atmospheric. It's the mystique and the allure of venturing forth into the dark and depraved which entices most fans. I consider Castlevania, at least stylistically, as the great-grandfather of games like Dark Souls. On some level, it beckoned us all to pry open the crypt and travel onward, waiting to see what the next room held in store. If this intangible aspect can somehow be showcased in a trailer or banner, I think you'll stand the best chance of generating some intrigue.
I strongly encourage you to take a look at the following trailer by the competition. It's for the game "Sundered," which recently released and I posted about on this forum. It's also something of a Metroidvania game with a very distinct style. While I'd consider the game above average and certainly gorgeous as far as art direction, the gameplay is a little flawed. Nevertheless, of all the people I've spoken to, we ALL agree that they absolutely killed it with the trailer. Many of us purchased the game without hesitation based simply on this trailer, and I think it stands as one of the best I've seen to date. It shows enough to command attention while reserving enough to whet one's curiosity. Well worth your minute and a half, I promise.
Hello again and welcome aboard! I am glad you already enjoy our randomness in the Bloodstained discord. Feel free to share your videogame experience so we can relive some of that little nostalgia all together but also look forward to the future! (that and anything that crosses your mind)
Once again, I am certain that 'stained will be a massive success. Let's enjoy that ride!
Hello there, and thank you for your heartfelt comment and suggestions!
All I can tell you is that you and I are on the same exact page. I am a big believer in the fact that promoting a game based on what makes it special is not only the most artistically ethical thing to do, it is also the EASIEST way to market/promote a game, not to mention grow and define the brand and respect the fans. (and devs!)
There are certainly some games out there that make the decision to try to be everything to everyone, but that's not what Bloodstained is. I absolutely agree with you on how Castlevania in some ways was a precursor to Dark Souls and had that rush of excitement you get from venturing into the dark, to fight unknown evils, and without saying too much, Bloodstained definitely has that core spirit, just amplified exponentially because it's been years since SOTN, who knows how many ideas Igarashi-san has been waiting to put into action, and plus now there's high quality graphics, orchestrated tracks, celebrity voice acting, you name it, it's there.
While it's not the only thing I focus on or care about when crafting marketing plans etc., that "spirit" is definitely an enormous priority.
As for Sundered, competition analysis is an important part of my job, luckily it comes relatively easy to me just because I actually love games and play/buy/follow them, and you're right, one of the things Sundered did an exceptionally good job on was their trailer and conveying the unique atmosphere and "spirit" of what the game was all about.
In short, I think all of us, no matter what we're talking about, games, movies, books etc., we all enjoy something that is well done, knows what it is, and isn't generic. Because generic is exactly what you get when you go the "DoritoDew" route and just stick a neon flashing sign above your game.
Bloodstained is the polar opposite of "DoritoDew".
Hello! Yeah I've really loved lurking around and interacting with the community a little bit on my own before being formally introduced. It gave me the chance to get to know some of you and really get a feel for just how excited and passionate everyone is about Bloodstained.
It's definitely going to be a wild ride, and I'm going to do everything I can to make sure it's one we all enjoy together.

haha, just an easy mistake, Brianiac.
Hi Angel. My first impression of you/your role is/was..."I'm jealous" lol. Working officially on this thing is like a dream. I love this project and the community, and being in it and involved with Mike, the forum, doing things at cons etc has been amazing. I haven't seen or been involved with a better, more positive group of people, all the way back to the Kickstarter comment section which is where this all started from.
If you haven't yet, you should check out some of the earlier podcast episodes, like the "inverted" one where I interview Mike. Great history/recap of what all we've been up to, and those episodes are a good way to read the pulse of the fans from those segments of time. Ben Judd and Mana's also gave us great insight and further info about the game/project. My favorites, probably.
Man, I love the Souls games. They represent a return to form as far as old school game design, the beauty of what I liked about older Japanese games, and the nature of both discovery and challenge, nothing being handed to you, the story not being obvious, etc. An example I've used in the past is how like finding Ash Lake was pretty much a mini inverted castle moment for me. You combine these things with gothic fantasy and a new take on "learn from your mistakes", where death is punishing, but also only as punishing as you allow it to be mentally and resource wise...
I'm going to stop right there until I talk all day about it lol. Anyway, yes, glad to have you around, and I figured you were a good dude since your first post was agreeing with something I posted ayyyy
And if you have some fun trivia for me, let me know. I need to expand that part on this forum
No worries there, I'm in it for the long haul, as a fan and as my job, there may be times when you see me online less because of travel or just work getting intense, but like a loyal doge, I will always come back ;P
In the near future I'm sure you will have lots of new fun trivia...
hey there! haha yeah I guess that was my first post! But yeah I'm right there with you, Ash Lake was probably one of if not my favorite thing about Dark Souls. It was just so beautiful and combined with the music, at least for me, it made me feel like my character would be so sad and alone there, but in a beautiful way, if that makes any sense.
I've already had some fun listening to XombieMike's podcasts and will be listening to the rest of them by today, I'm really enjoying them, just like I'm loving meeting all of the great people on the forums, discord, and elsewhere. I saw the Inverted Castle Episode, great job on that! I really enjoyed it haha

Questions - 505 Games
Many questions from many people. Reddit, Facebook (mentioned) and this forum (just nicknames) included. Note: Questions that can't be answered might be brought up to #AskCurry, #AskIGA or Mana in the future.
Latest update: Aug 17 was the last update, and will not be updated anymore.
Everyone: How are you? Welcome to the Bloodstained Community!
From Reddit - Winterdust: What's your favorite Castlevania subweapon?
From Reddit - Winterdust: Sword or Whip?
From Reddit - Madpony: What was your favorite aspect of Symphony of the Night? Can you tell us your favorite aspect of Bloodstained?
From Reddit - Moulinoski: Has Igarashi and team looked at what happened with Mighty No. 9 and, if so, learned anything from it?
From Reddit - Lurlerrr: Do you have any creative input in the work?
Pure Miriam wondered (for Ask Curry) - What are your references for the castle design architecture? (Thoughts or can milk it out of Curry? - Are #AskCurry at Twitter still on? Do you know about it?)
Enkeria Gin: Which environment is your favorite thus far, maybe tell why?
Enkeria Gin: Are ‘Angel-Corlux’ some kind of weapon, enemy or item in the game? Or how did you come up with the nickname?
Enkeria Gin: Do you know if anyone in the crew have some lines, screams or monster grunts in the game, besides IGA, perhaps yourself are in the game?
Development & Crew
Lestaroth: What made 505 games accept Master Iga's plan while all others refused?
Lestaroth: How come any other publisher couldn't trust him?
Castledan: How many areas are they aiming to include in the game and any idea how much bigger each area is compared to previous games?
ReySol: Considering that the special backer version of the game (Alchemist's treasure) has a slipcase designed by Ayami Kojima, is it possible that we also get a poster of that art by Ayami aswell? I know that the Collector's box includes the Amano poster, but I really want Ayami's poster for the wall.
Enkeria Gin: How close are you working with ArtPlay? Do you (personally) share the same location with Art Play and Dico or are the meetings digital and planned over the communication of the internet?
Enkeria Gin: Do the developers over there get enough sleep? We know IGA is a machine when it comes to working, but it would be nice to hear you guys get energy by sleeping too.
Enkeria Gin: I have noticed inside the Church area, early concept screenshots from IGN have blue "neon" lights in the background. In the E3 2017 Demo it had changed, is this because of the rule of having dark background and lighter forgrounds? If this is the case, will similar light be elsewhere, I found it to be awesome, if implemented right. Screenshot for comparison: i.imgur.com/r8YThQj.jpg
Enkeria Gin: Does "IGAs biggest castle" mean just the castle, or the village and Galleon Minerva included? Care to, once and for all, give us a more clear view on this? (We have discussed this since the campaign started, what it really means. The Galleon Minerva and the village seems to be outside of the "biggest castle" rule, but counting the squares / rooms on the map, it could mean the entire concept being what he ment being the "biggest castle".)
Enkeria Gin: Can we expect your name in the credits, if yes.. What kind of name should we look out for under which clan?
Enkeria Gin: Could you tell us something about the physical goodies? Like the artbook, soundtrack, slipcase etc.? And the box itself perhaps? We heard before that the artbook will be very exclusive, a piece that you could not buy elsewhere (except maybe on eBay from one of these limited tiers), can you confirm about that too?
Enkeria Gin: Do you agree upon, having less updates, gives the developers more focus and time to progress? I mean, seeing all those update videos, I know stuff like that takes time. I have doing a few videos myself in the past. It really takes much effort. So I am curious, 505 do not have the manpower to make those instead? Or something? Like perhaps ingame content when the time comes, or would it be better for ArtPlay (IGA) to make those as before?
From Reddit - imrepairmanman: What happened to the monthly updates?
From Discord - Hylian: Iga was quite excited about using the 2.5D nature of the game for stuff that wasn't possible with pixel-based art. Has he been paying attention to some of the interesting 2.5D metroidvania games being released? Particularly the use of 3D in Metroid: Samus Return and the environments in Ori and the Blind Forest/Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
From Reddit - drupido: I was wondering how you guys are channeling this to the userbase. It would perhaps be interesting to know if you guys are planning to use the speedrunning community (big fans of most Casltevania or IGAvania games) or any other particular community of our small niche to promote the game. As someone who like both Castlevania and marketing, I'm just curious to see how you guys are thinking of doing this.
From Facebook - Chris Loven: Obviously, a lot of things that players might suggest for a game may take too long to actually implement (e.g. full animation, online multiplayer). What kind of ideas do you think yield the most value to the player while not demanding an unreasonable amount of development resources?
From Facebook - Luke Westmoreland and Ixbran on our forums: My top questions would be if Amiibo support has been considered for the Switch version? And if there is the possibility of any further indie game character cameos beyond Shovel Knight. Confirmation or specifics aren't necessary but knowing if these are under consideration would be interesting to say the least.
Enkeria Gin: Can you confirm all the different kickstarter mode-goals are in the game or will be in the game at launch? Speedrunners, Boss rushers and hardcore classic gamers want to know?
Enkeria Gin: Will the "New Game +" give us the options of continue with our stuff, and to continue without our stuff?
Enkeria Gin: Nightmare Difficulty Mode, will it change more than just health and attack patterns of the enemies?
Enkeria Gin: Can you play co-op with one steam version together with one GoG version? Same goes with PS Vita + PS4? Cross-platforming? Xbox One and PS4?
Enkeria Gin: Can you give us information about the prequel in terms of har far into development it has reached and/or give us any kind of news of it? Will it feel like a mini-game or will it feel like a complete stand-alone game as we have been interpreted it to be?
Enkeria Gin: How many persons (devs / animators / artists) are approx. working on the prequel and the main Bloodstained game?
Enkeria Gin: Will there be difficulty modes in the prequel?
Enkeria Gin: More you could share about the prequel?
Enkeria Gin: Can you confirm that familiars will indeed have colors, and not fly / walk around in a blue tint of color?
Castledan: Will the familiars have more personality like they did in SOTN?
Castledan: Are transformations in the game?
Castledan: Do weapons and special spells have button input codes? (I know we know about button input codes but I don't think they ever verified the KIND of things they're used for)
Castledan: Are Morte really the replacement for skeletons? If so...can you kinda nudge the dev team to at least give us Morte that have more of a cracking explosion to them? (Morte are more of an zombie, many want skeletons)
Enkeria Gin: Are crafting / forgeing considered to be an end-game content? Care to share anything about it?
Enkeria Gin: Will the retro styled area / level in the main game use same sprites (even though its two different engines) as the prequel? This to save time? And will Inti Creates take part of it or will Art Play take the on the mission themselves? This area or level would be a small place as it seems, any comment on that?
From Reddit - Bovolt: Which level cap are we getting? (Enkeria Gin: In first demo we datamined 255.)
Enkeria Gin: Have the developers ever consider to combine save-rooms with some other feature? How about a room where you can either save and teleport or save and read about monsters in the game? Or a savepoint with a jukebox to just relax to the tunes? A random feature selected upon each new game (and same until you finished the game). Todays engines are powerful enough to have a multi-functional room.
Enkeria Gin: Are there a few different voice fx "screams" from Miriam when she register a new shard ability / during animation, or just one and the same?
Facebook - Juan Salinas Jr: Will there be an option turn off the "soul" animation? (note: shard impale animation)
Enkeria Gin: Any word on if Bloodstained will allow modding? Maybe even a steam workshop? We know modding today is allowed according to rules like "do not offend anyone" etc. but how about post-launch.. and on consoles as well?
Enkeria Gin: Is there costumization for the other two playable characters? And Angelic and Demonic costume for Miriam?
Enkeria Gin: Speaking of Silly Cheat Codes. Will those only unlock costumes, or ... other things?
Enkeria Gin: How will the team address the Hidden Boss 'IGA'? Will you guys patch in him or have two different versions of the game? If you just lock the room or give the backers cheatcodes, he will be spread out or hacked and not backer exclusive anymore. Thoughts?
Enkeria Gin: Whats up with the bags that enemies drop? Why not show weapon / potions directly? Perhaps something for the endgame?
Enkeria Gin: Are there a plan to give out some kind of bestiary information? If not in the game, then perhaps on a physical piece? Perhaps on the backside of the map in those higher tiers, or if that sort of info are included in the artbook maybe? Or on a official website with good images? 3D models even to spin around?
From Reddit - Levyathyn: For buyers who purchase a physical copy of the game, do you know what kind of box art we might expect? (allooutrick from the forum: My question is what type and quality of material can we expect for the physical items? For example, would the map be made of parchment, cloth, would it be designed in a way that feels authentic to the era the game takes place in? Enkeria Gin: How big will the physical map be from the box? Will it be using any material other than paper, or?)
Enkeria Gin: Care to tell us the resist elements / names on these icons? [image]
Mojojoe: If you played symphony among other games, you may notice how characters often glide before they step or after turning. It's sorely missed for me in this game. Any plan on trying to add it? aqofficial: Will Miriam have unique animations for lunging as you first move forward, changing direction, and double jumping like both Alucard and Soma Cruz had?
From Reddit - Danfromumbrella: Are there any shields in the game?
From Facebook - Charles Bennett: Will you be able to pick playing as a man or is it just a woman?
The Whole Community: Do you think IGA is a vampire with a cowboy hat? If yes, how do you explain the whip? Are it made out of dark magic or piles of secrets perhaps?
K. Azune: As a person involved with publishing, what's your opinion on Metacritic and its effect on video game reviews?
More of an community request: Please make a note that fans want Goofball to be a part of Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night, somehow, somewhere. Or as the main familiar in the prequel.
From Facebook - Adrian Gallardo: Any possible early versions of the game going to backers or the most recent demo shown at E3 within this year? Castledan: Is the alpha release still planned for sometime this month, if not, when? & In terms of the alpha, how much will the alpha be showing off of the game? Community asks: Early Access in August?
Andre: When will the game be available for pre-order on psn, live and steam?
From the behalf of Bloodstained community, thanks for taking your time to answer some of these questions.

Keep in mind guys, your best bet with gameplay/design questions would be #AskCurry on twitter still. I imagine they'll be doing that soon.
The talk about Souls/vania reminds me, though: asynchronous multiplayer features were one of the stretch goals. Haven't heard anything else about that yet, wonder if that's one of the things Monobit is helping with. The ideas were pretty Souls-y. Ghost data, gravestone markers (bloodstains lol)...
Since it's questions time, here is one I posted in discord, it's been haunting me for a while. I was encouraged to ask it here, so enjoy!
"What made 505 games accept Master Iga's plan while all others refused?" and as a subsidiary question: "How come any other publisher couldn't trust him?" I want to really know how he felt on finally getting a chance to prove himelf, not a basic "the market didn't want of his ideas" but also if 505 games really loved igavanias first or not.
As for Bloodstained proper:
Will we get enemies that will have different tactics (fleeing, trying to fuse with a monster nearby, try to heal themselves, jump around, block attacks, etc.)?
Can Miriam have the chance to claim something as really hers? A castle room, a gift from Gebel before he left, a good luck charm, etc.)
Are save points going to have different functionalities?
Will we get enemies that will have different tactics (fleeing, trying to fuse with a monster nearby, try to heal themselves, jump around, block attacks, etc.)?
I would like to see characters interact with each other even when the latter are not playable. The past special modes like Richter, Maria, the sisters, Albus were straightforward but devoid of a special feeling. (it doesn't help that there was no script for them back then)
Will characters have quirks, from adorable to totally deranged? I'd like that, they would then be more human.
Any chance for charged attacks? For example a rush strike with focus time, etc.
Are we going to get mini-games, a sound test, art gallery, create-a-scene (why not? just a setting and chars you can place here and there will do) and maybe... a song?
I was wondering if the game will have steampunk elements or not, if so, in which proportion?
What about more guest characters? Ajna from Indivisible comes to mind. Miriam in Indiv' would be splendid, too.
That's a lot to answer to now! take care!

Welcome Angel-Corlux ! You know you guys reverse-opened Pandora Box with Bloodstained right? I said that because the hope was the first thing that come out. The hope that this game will be a hit.
Hi Pure Miriam! Man I absolutely LOVE the art of Pure Miriam, it's sooo good! Haha if we had to compare Bloodstained to Pandora's Box, then I'd say we've let out and chased away all the evils and left only the good things in the box like hope, dedication, passion and kick*** graphics, music, gameplay and story. Don't worry, we won't let those escape And don't you worry about "hoping" if it's gonna be a hit...it will be...no matter what.
(*starts drafting plans to knock on every single person's door in the USA*)
castledan: ( it's a minor complaint but i like to voice opinions )
Aug 22, 2017 12:57:02 GMT -6
castledan: to me " making the biggest castle " meant making the biggest castle itself. I dig that they're making areas to build up to the big moment but as i said about hubs earlier..... the exploration element is what matters and finding how things connect
Aug 22, 2017 12:57:50 GMT -6
castledan: is part of the fun
Aug 22, 2017 12:57:52 GMT -6
Galamoth: castledan"I like to voice opinions" <- Don't we all?
Aug 22, 2017 12:58:11 GMT -6
Galamoth: I can admit that, about 2 years ago, I was actually mad about the decision to go for 3D character models. I was actually convinced for a short time that the 2D concept art was what they "promised" to use.
Aug 22, 2017 12:59:56 GMT -6
Galamoth: Then I found out for myself that it was justconcept art. IGA never "promised" that to be the case. That's what I get for listening to another person (whose name I won't mention) who was irrationally hating on the game.
Aug 22, 2017 13:01:43 GMT -6
Galamoth: Now, here I am, member since late June of 2015, feeling optimistic about this game's future despite some very minor complaints I've had in the past.
Aug 22, 2017 13:03:35 GMT -6
castledan: I think i said the opinion thing because I know i complain a lot but it's out of love and I do enjoy talking about the game. Criticisms are just easier to levy sometimes
Aug 22, 2017 13:11:43 GMT -6
ZeroSbr: castledan, it seems we have very similar opinions on IGAvanias. I think the "biggest castle" just means there will be one castle that is bigger than one of SotN's castles. Maybe they'll give us an inverted castle too, who knows.
Aug 22, 2017 16:51:18 GMT -6
revient: Im interested in seeing the other settings.
Aug 22, 2017 18:28:18 GMT -6
Yän: I'm still not sure that the village's and the ship's maps will not be connected to the castle's map. To me that still seems quite possible.
Aug 22, 2017 18:49:09 GMT -6
castledan: I imagine you start in the village ---> find out the ship can take you to the castle ---> ship crashes at the castle. Then you can use the teleport room to get back to the village
Aug 22, 2017 18:51:15 GMT -6
Yän: Haha I just remembered that we had already talked about this (in the shoutbox, too)
Aug 22, 2017 18:52:20 GMT -6
Yän: My point back then was that the village might also be on the castle island.
Aug 22, 2017 18:52:50 GMT -6
Yän: This made sense to me because the ship was presented to us as the tutorial level...
Aug 22, 2017 18:53:20 GMT -6
Yän: So naturally, we'd start the game with the tutorial level
Aug 22, 2017 18:53:45 GMT -6
Yän: And later we'd end up on the island with the village and the castle
Aug 22, 2017 18:54:24 GMT -6
Yän: The ship may end up transformed into a more friendly environment just sitting on the harbor. If you reached into the parts you couldn't reach before due to jump height etc. it might give you some hidden dangerous enemies...
Aug 22, 2017 18:56:04 GMT -6
Yän: Just some thoughts on how it could all be connected
Aug 22, 2017 18:56:17 GMT -6
Galamoth: Yän The Galleon Minerva being turned into a less-hostile area after reaching the island actually sounds like a better idea to me. It still being there [and intact] would give players the chance to explore it fully when they couldn't before.
Aug 22, 2017 20:54:52 GMT -6
