At this link you can see the campaign for Blasphemous, a 2D side-scrolling action adventure games from The Game Kitchen, the indie studio responsible for what in my opinion is the best point and click series in a long time, as well as one of the best Lovecraft-inspired games ever made, The Last Door. I feel that this game is particularly significant for this community, because a great source of inspiration is quite obviously Castlevania. Recommended for fans of Castlevania, Berserk (especially the Inquisition Saga), Dark Souls and Bloodborne! It looks really amazing, have a look Also, for a game still in pre-production, the art and animations look INCREDIBLE.

I kinda started my activities here with a fail, I made a new thread instead of introducing myself in this one, which exists specifically for this purpose. I'm quite sorry but nevertheless, I think I'll learn quickly how to behave in the forum!

I think that the ideal thing would be a transformation system halfway between SotN and OoE: forms useful to overcome certain obstacles (either to continue in the game or to reach certain secrets), but not limited to that. SotN's transformations hadn't a real purpose in battle. OoE were more battle oriented, and that is what I like, but they almost never were an optimal option. In short, I'd like some forms that allow me to explore, while being efficient in battle if I choose to use them. They should feel badass, and less gimmicky.

My thoughts as someone who has played TLC1 (I didn't touch TLC2 yet, though I'm very much looking forward to it).
TLC1 is not so much a balance between classic 'Vanias and Metroidvanias, it's more like a Simon's Quest with a refined and expanded concept and gameplay. But this also means that the game aims clearly for a classic 'Vania atmosphere (there are a lot of references to the classic 'Vanias, even the most obscure ones like Adventure), which is different from the Metroidvania feel and atmosphere the series has pursued in a long while. The game IS enjoyable, but certainly has a lot of limitations and shortcomings, being a low budget fan game (horrible hitboxes, clunky controls and more). Also, bosses and game system were absolutely standard for a Castlevania. Well made, but standard. I think it's more a matter of expectations, as you clearly prefer that type of atmosphere, more rooted in the classic horror and open map a là Bram Stoker's Dracula as well as aold school 'Vanias; but to say that the atmosphere and especially the art direction is "more on point than any Konami CV in almost two decades"... heh, that sounds wrong to me, because aside of the fact that one might prefer that type of atmosphere, it IS mostly a rehash of old school 'Vanias locations and bestiary. Not exactly anything new. Besides, while the atmosphere is well crafted, games like Order of Ecclesia and Aria of Sorrow had a distinct and vivid atmosphere, albeit of a different kind. From an artistic point of view, even while counting the rehashes of monsters, the art in AoS and OoE especially is pretty much a peak of pixel art in their respective systems. As far as QUALITY goes, I think they easily surpass TLC1. But personal taste does not really care about what is the "best", but what one likes the most, so it's understandable.
Again, this is based on my playthrough of TLC1, not the second one (yet). I personally wouldn't even compare it to official release, but as far as fan made 'Vanias go, TLC is easily among the best of them.
As for the critiques to Bloodstained, they are kind of premature, since we haven't seen a thing to corroborate or defy the thesis that the locations may be repetitive (we only have seen one area in its entirety, and it was in an extremely early phase of developement) or not cohesive (we literally have never seen a transition between contiguous areas, as far as I remember). What you can say from now, is that Bloodstained will indeed (probably) pursue a Metroidvania like atmosphere and not really a classicvania one, so chances are that you won't like the atmosphere as much. But any other consideration on level design, bosses and so on is practically impossible to make at this point.

Hi everyone, FreddyTheMonkey here. You don't know me obviously, as I registered only today, but I know a fair amount of you all, because I've been reading the forum pretty much since the campaign ended. I am really excited about Bloodstained and about the possibility to interact with you and be a part of this fine community.
Have a good day, and see you in the forum!
