Hey everyone! Thanks for the support! Quick introduction, my name is Lance and I'm the CEO and Programmer for Duck Block Games and I apologize for what's going to be a long post. It's exciting and daunting to see a post about our game on this forum. No doubt everyone here has a strong love for the Castlevania franchise as do we, and that can result in an array of emotional responses. Full disclosure, I also backed Bloodstained and can't wait to play it as well! (Abridged post for obvious reasons) I'll definitely buy this one game when it's on Steam! I completed the demo under 16mins and I love it to bits. It's sad that once again it is another project I cannot back because of KS's policy but yes, I shall be rooting for this game's success. Thanks so much for your interest! I'm curious, what Kickstarter policy is preventing you from backing the project? If I had to hazard a guess, it's Kickstarter (or their payment provider) may not be available in your region. If that's the case, we're planning to launch a page on our site where people will be able to support us using Paypal in the coming days after I get some fixes for the current demo released. Hope that helps! Yes, it's the no-Paypal payment possibility that prevented me from backing this game. I could back Bloodstained because indeed they worked on this alternate form of payment (and that way it was even easier for them to reach funding goals). I will definitely participate once it's ready! I like Lily a lot, she can do even more stuff than the regular Belmont ( automatically grab ledges, store multiple subweapons, dash... even if for the latter Richter can do it too). By the way, I did vote for the game on Steam Greenlight. I'm glad it's official now! Take care!

I was wondering if Bloodstained is going to focus on the 72 demons of the Lesser Key of Solomon then I wonder if there is a chance we will see angels in the game as well considering each of the lesser demons has a counterpart angel in their description who stands as there archnemesis basically. What are your guys's thoughts on this? I was actually thinking the angel counterparts might be weapons to be used by people, owing to a nature of servants that carry out an external will, instead of their own. I'm not clear as to what alchemy was supposed to accomplish in the experiment with Gebel and Miriam, but one to be a match for the industrial revolution could be techniques to uplift man into a more supernatural state. The Crystal Curse certainly seems like a piece of some greater goal in emprowering a person. Experiments with basic objects and weapons might have been the step before that. I've always felt that Dominique would be the best character for that to happen, possibly assisted by angels. She's an exorcist sent by the Church, after all.

I think Mana liking the first post is a good sign that ...they might have something like it. I could be reading into it, but I imagine it would be straight up ignored if it wasn't being implemented. Devs could eventually forget to implement these little ideas. This is where beta testers come into play, but also people like us, who are (more regularly) on the gaming side. Mana approving of it indeed is a positive hint.

Hey Aztec, I certainly hope that your suggestion will be implemented. It's a feature that is present about everywhere now but is essential for a good game experience. It shouldn't be complicated to implement as well. Well done.

To BalancedHydra Man, that's a cool idea. Given what the lore says, Zero got to do his part and show no mercy to his enemies, that could work. I'm just a bit worried he'd be a little too alone in that, unless the later team of the X series is still there to assist him. purifyweirdshard It's part of the deal/risk/challenge. How many people truly know about the Castlevania series, including CV III: Dracula's Curse? I'm sure that if he covered part MMZ or like BalancedHydra said, the time gap between MMX and MMZ, it could surprise ppl because he wouldn't go for an easy route. People would then make their research on the game(s). Besides, the point here is the general ambience and what he really looks for in a story, not about whether ppl know the original material or not. And then if people are too lazy to understand what is going on in Adi's mind or won't try to give it a chance to these animated series, it's their loss. Of course if he manages to do it well.

I will sound like a jerk, but Nina from BoF IV has zero charisma (my favorite characters in the game are Scias and Ursula and Ershin a bit too). I finished the game for completion purposes and I never wanted to return back to it (surely because the dragon transformations needed you to succeed countless times in silly mini-games and the fishing game was not fun, unlike the third's).
Leave self-healing capabilities to bosses... but again, you'd see that way more often when it comes to RPG bosses... Guaranteed super salty moments when you see the health bar regenerating all of a sudden.
Yes, overall the Marvel Vs. Capcom series needs new faces. That said, the change of roster between the second and the third was very brutal. As for the first MvC, they could have included so many more characters. It's not like the arcade board or disc capacity (PS1) would not be able to hold more of them (they did the same for Pocket Fighter). Seeing all of these cameos made me depressed. This is also why I still desperately want to own MvC 2.
Tekken vs Street Fighter (and not vs Capcom) didn't include so many of them, true enough, but Ultra Street Fighter has a roster of 44 characters... so given MvC I will be on current-generation consoles and PC, it's not impossible they could go for more than that number.

Thanks XombieMike and purifyweirdshard for the BCB! So let's see if I can have the right thoughts on this. - Thank you Mike and the other founders of these forums. I do feel that this community is really significant now and it's always good to have fans that have all sorts of experiences, affinities and preferences, but also skills. And we do function well together! Like I said in the Croatia conference thread, I am so happy and glad th at Artplay and co. are much into healthy ethics, especially because some other kickstarter-based games met mitigated results. I am sure it will come out in a beautiful way.
- Lecarde Chronicles 2, yes, I'm playing it... It's a slightly tough game. Classic action. Robert Belgrade voicing some of it. Plain awesome. I should play the first too...
- So, FF VI, Belmont's Revenge, Order of Ecclesia, the Megaman series? Yes, these are some of my favorites too. By the way Mike, did you get the Shadowgate remake available on Steam? The Fantasy Heroes Bundle includes it for cheap!
- I was one of the guys who took the Game Boy to get its music recorded on tape... Walkman and all! Good moments.
- When it comes to composers, Hitoshi Sakimoto & Masaharu Iwata (FFT), Noriyuki Iwadare (Lunar series), Masashi Hamauzu (Saga Frontier II), Motoi Sakuraba (Tales series, Valkyrie Profile series), Hiroki Kikuta (Seiken Densetsu 3)* are some of the classic RPG composers I love to no end.
The Castlevania, Megaman, Street Fighter and King of Fighters various composers are some of my favorites too. Daisuke Ishiwatari (Guilty Gear) kicks serious ass too!
When it comes to indie composers, Garoad (Cyberpunk Bartender Action VA-11 HALL-A) and Jake Kaufman (Shantae, Double Dragon Neon) are great names as well. - When I think of it, Megaman and Castlevania introduced me to rock. Even I got affinity with classical music because the BGM playing in Wolfgang Krauser's stage (Fatal Fury) is actually from Mozart! Guilty Gear got plenty of heavy metal. Seiken Densetsu 3 got many tribal-sounding tracks. Etc. - Mana as a Bloodstained illustrator? Yes! I'd even want her to make some custom artwork, available in the gallery. - When it comes to Adi Shankar and a Megaman Animated Series, I'd prefer him to work on the Megaman Zero series. Plenty of gritty moments in a post-apocalyptic world to get there. The classic Megaman series wouldn't work at all. The Megaman X series could fit, but X and Zero are not ruthless enough. They sure are really tormented though. I'm sure I'll have other thoughts flowing around if my post gets discussed on... Stay tuned! Thanks for reading! *Kikuta is composing for the Indivisible game! I'm super glad they chose him for it!

Playable Breath of Fire characters in a MvC game would make me so happy. If Nina from BoF II's confirmed, I'll be even happier (she's my favorite character of the game, after all).
Deis would be a great choice too, with different elements of her incarnations (some spells from the second, some she teaches you in the third, Ershin attacks, etc.).
Katt and Garr? One doesn't know spells (unless in shamanized form?) and the other must be slow like hell. ^^ As for Rei, I'd love to have him around, but what's to steal? *grins*

I enjoyed the podcast. It really was about Bloodstained and its backstage elements. I am glad that ethics are strong and well-applied there. This is why I am confident in the project.
It is easy to dismiss critics and follow your path, but it will only bring you less legitimacy if not catch you back by surprise. Of course, it's not the case here.
I'm glad I chose this project for backing.

To purifyweirdshard : Actually I'd be relieved if devs are fully working on castle zones and rooms and all that they contain right now. There is a TON to work on... All of these designs, these sound effects, these shards, drops, fighting tactics, interactive elements... This is what makes me slightly trippy out of anticipation.

So, to perhaps keep the discussion going, something else I noticed about the update that I don't think anyone has called attention to yet is that Dominique and Anne had several profile shots that showed them from the front, sides and back. Alfred, for some reason, does not have concept art in the update showing what he looks like from behind like the others do. Would having shown us this tell us something more than they were willing to say about his design or motive, or did they leave it out unintentionally or because they didn't feel it was as interesting? Can't say, but some possibilities did hit me with that. Yes, Alfred had explosive diahrrea that day and didn't have time to change his robes before the artwork was done. #Brownstained Hah, you and your wild imagination. Nah, he's just giving his best "You think I'm just a hobo, but I will show you you can't judge a book by its cover". It it sure is a damaged-looking book we got there. Off-topic, but I finally found where the "Miriam's lap for a good rest" picture comes from. Well done, well done.

crocodile i never saw those threads i think, or i don't remember them. Maybe i posted in them and forgot. Shame on me You never did? It's time to explore! As for zones with slightly claustrophobic parts, I can't recall CV having an attic or a wine cellar (special guests, you know). That said, I'm sure that would be nice.

Well then, let's put a save point in the village and use the usual "you buy/sell, no refunds policy sorry" with maybe a sign to emphasize it. Better not forget!
As for characters being killed because they stole stuff... Let's not turn them into potential thieves in the first place. ... (memories resurface) Thieving in Link's Awakening... good times. I tended to steal the bow and getting called THIEF by Marin. Gossips sure traveled well, even if the shopkeeper never went outdoors (did he use a phone?). I never stepped into the shop ever again. A completed game without a zero death count *evil grin* Even if I got force-renamed, I regretted nothing... but the treasure chests gave so many rupees I didn't know what to do with them, even rafting a few times was boring. (You're supposed to have the bow's cost easily covered by the final parts of the game, after all)
By the way, Nintendo incited ppl to steal in the DX version, since that unlocked a funny picture of a stealthy thief.

Lestaroth To clarify, I know what nationality Zangetsu is. I used Imperial China as a "best" example for explaining why Silver would be used as currency, considering China used Silver for that purpose for the longest time. ^ Silver was even used for coins in the Middle East and in India (though, for the latter, not nearly as long). More importantly, Silver has even been used in Alchemy. In both Europe and Asia, I believe. Oh, obviously. Precious metals and gems have been used in crafting, trading and other research for immortality. It's easy to see how important they would be in alchemy.

Probably a discussion about the most probable/most loved part of previous Igavanias that are likely to appear in Bloodstained. While again I would want Bloodstained to be far from the past CV games in both representation and plot, I have to agree that some past castle elements were really interesting. I liked the inner quarters of Aria of Sorrow very much. Spacious, richly decorated hallways populated by martial artists of maids and female warriors of various origins. Each time I hear that theme, I think of Persephone greeting you and being ready to kick Soma's ass in style! It would fit Bloodstained really well too. I'm a sucker for corridors littered with art (paintings, mirrors, statues and the like). When it comes to an underground area, nothing beats the Underground Caverns of CSOTN. One of my favorite tracks of the game plays there (the others being Waltz of Pearls and Lost Painting). A watery area like the Somus Reefs. Not impossible, since there is a sea-themed element present in the demo. Being able to dive there would be great (with swimming animation) The Tristis Pass could be a passageway between the village and the castle, though I prefer the Misty Forest Road. When it comes to a library, I loved the one of Order of Ecclesia... though it's a bit messy-looking.

Ah, that's just for looks? Well then! The idea of fashion elements is even more legitimate then!
I don't know why I thought about stat-changing elements. Maybe it's because of that discussion about shards and all.

To crocodile : 1) Of course it would be wiser to save before shopping. But again, some don't do that. This is where the idea shines. It would be instantaneous. It would be present as a separate tab, with few entries (the most recent ones, with a limit of three to five items). 2) Taxes, in a world where demon do whatever they want? Hmm. Equipment should be costlier only if it is more effective. Galamoth submitted a good idea still, because it would allow and explain the existence of foreign elements in the game. It's not like Zangetsu would go to England alone and unprepared, right? That said Galamoth, you put Imperial China in the mix and Zangetsu is Japanese. Let's not mix the two for diplomatic reasons. I'm sure it's not that complicated... let's just place them in the list while their cost would require that extra resource. To prove this, in this screenshot of Shantae: Risky's Revenge, you can see red pots and a number. The red pots are magic jam (found in treasure chests) and the number is gems (in-game currency). The two spells and the attack power-up require both, while the rest of the items only cost gems. Needless to say, there is no way to sell items in this game, yet gems are super easy to get. Risky's Revenge is a Gameboy Color game, so it's far from difficult to implement in the end, right? And yeah... faster whipping. I know.
