I think you can out-range him with the spear and more importantly a rapier. The same goes for Katana in real life.

I think what is happening is that the right angle for d-pad down to be registered is not very consistent. I think the dev team should be able to fix that.
Someone should report this as a bug. This is exceptionally important for switch users.
That is why I was asking for what controller was being used. On my PS3 controller, it is VERY consistently working. However, not every controller works the same. That is part of the reason I have XBox controllers, they are pretty bad precision wise in my experience.
I do have a separate issue with the default Switch ontroller and that is my hand size doesnt work well with them.
Sorry about the whole thing just now. The thing is, due to the fact that the game has similar resolution regardless, many will choose to use the joycons, which don't even have a ps d-pad (which would have worked great by the way) I think you need to be specifically thrusting at around 25 degrees for it to happen on a Xbox controller. Simply pressing down does not work.

Spoilers: You can only use the old camera once. Would love to see this fully expanded into a feature where Miriam does different poses in different backgrounds. Maybe even have other character join the action.

You can.
I just tested it on my PC with a PS3 controller and I can get both in air and ground downward attacks working. I tried it with both the D-Pad (my preference) and the stick controls.
What controller are you using?

After #88, I cannot help but feel a bit cheated since $60 Physical ending up getting all the digital benefits that would have shipped physically with $100, but were originally meant for digital backer. (including a physical copy of the game, no less). I am willing to pay another sum to get said $100 rewards physically if that's possible . Of course, there is no reason to fulfill said wish as all promised benefits are delivered and I shall not hold any grudge otherwise, cause Ritual of the night is itself the best reward.

I would love some meaningful story expansions for the game with new enemy types. Alfred mode. Have to say this game completely redeemed the weak mage archetype.

Add some physics to Miriam's long hair variant. Fix when loot gets stuck in the walls. Allow us to disable the graphics for masks/helmets (unless I'm an idiot and somehow missing this, which is likely) That's all I've got. I only had about 1.5 hours to play so far. Darn adulthood. Yes to all of them. Though I think if you've touch the loot once, they are added to inventroy when they start flashing and about to disappear. Also I would like the ear part to become part of the customization. Stats are really bad.

Chef Miriam where you equip a frying pan as the main weapon, and any of the game's various food items as ammo. Normal attack swings the pan, command attack uses the food in the skillet to generate an effect(giant fireball for something spicy, for example). But are those infinite?

1. Training room. There is this immortal Morte (or a bunch of them) that won't deal contact damage(or maybe they can even attack and let you test out reflect and counter)which you can try various things on. You also gain infinite hp, sp and can costomize your shard levels. We seriously need some way to test out the infinite array of abilities.
2. Challenge mode. Beat a specific section with limited shards and equipment option and only a handful of set recovery items.
3. 2d Portraits. Static portraits over 3d model, which currently don't look so good during dialogues. Option to toggle and multiple portrait for different expressions would be sweet. Sweeter would be different portraits for different outfits.
4. Ring of Chaos on new game plus. In the gba title Aria of Sorrow, you can gain a ring that grants infinite mp for collecting every single soul in the game so I think 100% shard collection deserves a reward. Besides current mp drain is quite troublesome. Though I would not mind needing more effort in obtaining it.
5. Survival mode. Collecting shards was supposed to be dangerous, so it's reflected that with each milestone of shards you receive some penalty. For added Sadism, your shard drop rates increases(in general and with each stage) and enemies stats are in line with nightmare mode and also more aggressive.
DLC: Alfred Mode. I can see quite clearly that Alfred would need some rework to fit his character. Zangetsu has limited movesets that can be fully unlocked but Alfred should get a wide range of spells. (Alfred should play like Shanoa to an extent, where there is no free action save for staff whack) Additionally, it should serve as a what if. I am willing to pay for this as DLC.

What exactly is bloodless? Is she a well documented demon (or her inspiration)? If not why is she in England? She definitely looks like a Yokai (especially the horns), but her attires and manner seems like a European noble woman. Also her essence can be crystallized into a shard.
In Eastern Asian culture, yaoguai (for pronunciation think Fallout series's bears) or yokai are sentient spirits capable of mythical feats and shape shifting (most commonly human) that are bounded to anything from critter to plants and fungi to remains to outright inanimate objects like rocks, and in some cases human. (to my shame I have not yet found a way to induce say a house cat's transformation into a multi tailed demon, which is arguably the most common kind) Many of them are fully arcane in nature but would demonstrate traits of their object of origin (their true form is an exaggeration said origin, like a small cat becoming a massive tiger), thus is different from a traditional hell demon, and common explanation of their origin is Taoism practice of said object and their formation is heavily affect by the locale's Fengshui, which can be considered the flow of spirits within an environment. An important distinction is that Yao Guai requires sustainance and not immutable spirits, and would technically be considered living beings. More evil ones would prey on human flesh to sustain their own existence and further their power.
Oh thanks you great lady. Guess I focused on her umbrella too much.

Hey there everyone,
This was accidentally left in the Japanese version, our bad, we were just all hands on deck for the release so it slipped through the cracks.
This is something we're planning to announce next week for after Switch release is all wrapped up. It's still WIP but mostly it's correct.
I've tried to take in the feedback regarding some of the changes and bumps in the road with the campaign, and equalizing the $60 physical and digital versions of the game along with giving everyone at that tier and above everything we can in terms of digital goods, is our way of saying thank you to everyone and apologizing for any dissatisfaction.
One thing that's not included in this out of date Japanese localized version is how we'll be making sure backers at the $100-175 level can receive a Kojima poster that's not folded, rolled instead. More details on how we'll accomplish this later.
All of this is was put on hold for this announcement so we could focus on the unfortunate delay with the Sony NA keys for backers and get that resolved ASAP.
As soon as all the PS4 keys are sent, and NSW happens, we hope to announce more about this in greater detail and in an official capacity. Thanks everyone ! I think it's kind of unfair to digital $60 backers as I would have gotten the physical version if it comes with Digital version's benefits.

Strategy RPGs don't require grinding if the game is well balanced. This is especially true for Fire Emblem and I have played through Super Robot Wars without ever upgrading unit, use chips, let any use die and on one run without spirits. If you are talking about Disgaea, the whole theme is grind. Also consider say FF12's weakmode. I think equipments are more important in this game and item drop rate seems fine especially considering luck is a stats. Weapon and Spell damage also scale with level only linearly, so even on a low level run you have options to damage enemies. Honestly grinded stats cannot compare to the broken beast that is the Alucard Shield.

I backed via Fangamer and still haven't received the soundtrack or retro strategy booklet. Are they supposed to be out yet? (Also slightly irratated by the delayed release of the switch version)
