Oh yeah, why is a mace considering a trusting weapon? You don't usually thrust with a mace, you normally just bash and swing it. I guess it depends on type of mace it is, you could probably trust with a morning star though. These are the things I wonder.

In effect, piercing and mace attacks more or less serve the same goal - being more effective against armor than edges, so it kind of makes sense to group them together. You could actually say that the flanges and spikes typical of maces/morningstars are piercing, because that's essentially what they're designed to do.

I'm surprised this has this many posts. Not trying to sound like a jerk, but the only bit of new info here is the bullets being used. I can't blame the team for that though demo mining spoiled the fun.

CastleDan Well I didn't check out that thread because I didn't want to be spoiled so I think other people did the same. Data mining gives a lot of information, but at the cost of spoilers. And a lot of game developers don't like it when you find information about the end game and secrets this way, so I try to keep away from that kind of stuff. It's not really a jerk move, it's just that your lust for information was greater than others.

Guns/ammo: Like you other guys, I'm curious about this. The Sorrow guns weren't particularly great, so here's hoping that giving them limited ammunition this time around means they will be a significant weapon category. I do wonder how convenient/easy it will be to switch to another method of attack quickly to use not-ammo during standard gameplay when you just want to hit a candle or test a wall. She will need an attack that doesn't have a cost associated with it for just exploring. It would be pretty annoying if you had to even hot swap your equip set just to do that. Maybe she can use the butt of the gun for close attacks? or when she is out of ammo Personally, I hope she pulls a finger-gun gesture and makes a "bang" noise a la Spike Spiegel if you try to attack while she's out of ammo.

Heh, we can always count on Pure Miriam for some interesting analysis! I agree with nearly everything, though there are a couple points I'd like to make: -If Maces are slower than swords (which makes sense) I'd think/hope their damage would be higher. Not Battle Ax good but higher nonetheless -If spears have the same length and attack speed as Greatswords/Axes etc, I'd wonder what the point of them would be if they did less damage overall. Perhaps other spears in the game will have even greater range to compensate. -I'd argue that Whips would have the same *High* range as the Spears and Greatswords, in addition to attacking faster with lower damage as the trade-off. At least in Portrait I remember the whips working this way. I know this is pretty general, just figured I'd weigh in. EDIT: also, maybe most of us knew these weapon types would be in the game, but seeing the actual animation play out was the main treat. I knew there'd be whips, obviously, but that animation.....

Aren't the weapon categories in the demo equip menu in-game anyway, though?

here it is with some of the sound effects. Yeah the weapons categories were there, that's what I'm saying the update focused on stuff we knew. Then again, I guess kickstarter is tricky because you don't want to spoil too much so it kinda makes sense.
I kinda wish the great sword ( two handed swords) had more of an audio difference to the regular swords. SOTN when using a two handed sword it sounded DRASTICALLY different which really made it feel more unique. Same thing happened with the rods in that game. I hope they really push the sound effects arena. No reason not to with the better sound capabilities.
The whip is perfect, sound wise, animation wise. It really has a snap to it which Lament Of Innocence did so well. That matters a whole lot.

I'd say that while there are a few people bummed out that the update was about things they'd already seen thanks to cracking the demo, the bulk of the fanbase has never seen any animation besides the sword, kick and katana.

Yeah, I'm not arguing that. I was specifically talking about people HERE. I imagined quite a few checked that thread out as a lot of people posted in it. I guess, kickstarter can breed a greediness sometimes. Like for me, we know nothing about Familiars other than the armor knight being a familiar in the game. It's a perfect thing to discuss, you wouldn't even need to SHOW one just talk about how they work. Who knows though? I mean they might not want to spoil all the eggs to soon. It's not a criticism of the team, it's me checking out something in the mod thread and basically ruining this update which i was pretty excited for. It'd be like the next update being the new Yamane song, which we've already heard. It'd be like, yeah some people might not have heard it but unfortunately for the hardcore people following this game, a lot of us have heard it.

Pacing the updates is gonna be tricky from here on. After all *if* the team still wants to launch in march (a BIG if) then we have 7-8 updates left: one of which would be the Steam beta. When one looks at how much we've actually seen over the last 16-ish months, they've kept us hooked with very little meat: a boss here, a couple enemies there, a couple songs, one character etc. They've really done a good job of keeping the tease satisfying whilst hiding the vast bulk of the game. Even the E3 demo was just the opening segment: two weapons, two songs, and what, five enemies and a boss?
Granted I'm expecting at least one push back to later in 2017, which would mean more updates. I have to wonder if the next few will be pretty light so they can play a longer game if it comes to it.
EDIT: playing it safe the next few months is honestly a good call. If they DO launch in March (and the launch is successful without major bugs etc.) then they will have played a master hand with keeping people hype without spoiling much. If they have to push it back, well then by playing it conservative they will have left plenty of material to sate us with as they work towards the launch.

I want to do some analysis / speculation about the weapon types and it's characteristics! Considering the update, the demo, the info we already had, older Igavanias and some speculation, i THINK the weapons will work more or less like this:

As i said, this chart is based on many things AND speculation. Anyone agree with me? Looks good, except if guns use different types of bullets and have different varieties of the guns themselves, the stats may vary quite exponentially. In Circle of the Moon the gun fired very slowly, however in Dawn of Sorrow it fired rapidly. :p

I expected some news about the prequel mini game, for example a screenshot and release date this November. The weapon types and animations look great. Good to see a whip! I just don't like guns for Igavanias, but it is not like I will have no choice Thanks for the nice update, anyway, I always look forward to them as they make me excited and eager to play the game.

The guns are a little interesting due to the time frame, the gun we see in the update is a flintlock pistol from around (1700-1730) The one from the data mining shows us something similar to a edo japanese arquebuse, from around 1400 until the middle of the 17th century. Wonder what other kinds of guns we will see, all of the guns so far was popular in the early 17th century so is that the time frame they will use for the weapons?
