Pacing the updates is gonna be tricky from here on. After all *if* the team still wants to launch in march (a BIG if) then we have 7-8 updates left: one of which would be the Steam beta. When one looks at how much we've actually seen over the last 16-ish months, they've kept us hooked with very little meat: a boss here, a couple enemies there, a couple songs, one character etc. They've really done a good job of keeping the tease satisfying whilst hiding the vast bulk of the game. Even the E3 demo was just the opening segment: two weapons, two songs, and what, five enemies and a boss?
Granted I'm expecting at least one push back to later in 2017, which would mean more updates. I have to wonder if the next few will be pretty light so they can play a longer game if it comes to it.
EDIT: playing it safe the next few months is honestly a good call. If they DO launch in March (and the launch is successful without major bugs etc.) then they will have played a master hand with keeping people hype without spoiling much. If they have to push it back, well then by playing it conservative they will have left plenty of material to sate us with as they work towards the launch.

Well also: should they base their updates around the fact that they knew people would mine the demo and find all of that, or continue on as they planned with the assumption that the bulk of people seeing the updates either dont know how to mine the demo or didn't see videos like that?
I'd say that while there are a few people bummed out that the update was about things they'd already seen thanks to cracking the demo, the bulk of the fanbase has never seen any animation besides the sword, kick and katana.

Heh, we can always count on Pure Miriam for some interesting analysis! I agree with nearly everything, though there are a couple points I'd like to make: -If Maces are slower than swords (which makes sense) I'd think/hope their damage would be higher. Not Battle Ax good but higher nonetheless -If spears have the same length and attack speed as Greatswords/Axes etc, I'd wonder what the point of them would be if they did less damage overall. Perhaps other spears in the game will have even greater range to compensate. -I'd argue that Whips would have the same *High* range as the Spears and Greatswords, in addition to attacking faster with lower damage as the trade-off. At least in Portrait I remember the whips working this way. I know this is pretty general, just figured I'd weigh in. EDIT: also, maybe most of us knew these weapon types would be in the game, but seeing the actual animation play out was the main treat. I knew there'd be whips, obviously, but that animation.....

The whip animation was awesome. Kinda vaguely reminded me of one of the attack animations from Lament of Innocence... The gun's shooting animation and idle pose gave me a chuckle (in a good way) Dude you're totally right. I forgot all about that: Leon would do a 3 hit light combo, then hit heavy and crack the whip on the ground. Nice memory XD and yeah, that hand-on-hip with the guns is so sassy! Especially the Clint Eastwood twirl at the end.

I nabbed it earlier this afternoon myself. I respect that they are legally obligated to fight stuff like this to protect their ownership of the IP....doesn't mean I won't download it. Game is fantastic, and its been so long since we got a Metroid game I'd forgotten just how much I missed it. Metroid has a weird history with Nintendo's other franchises. As far as The West is concerned, its part of the Holy Trinity: right there with Mario and Zelda, but the franchise never took of in Japan like it did here. I think the franchise would have been benched even further back if America wasn't so fond of it and the Prime Trilogy wasn't the critical and commercial darling it turned out to be. This might sound like bias on my part (given my obvious avatar choice), but I'd almost say Nintendo is really pushing Fire Emblem to be the third part of their "Trinity" (and given how well the 3DS games have sold, I'd say its mostly working). The franchise was always bigger in Japan but thanks to Smash Bros and a reassurance of the franchise post-DS era, its clawed its way out of the niche it sat in quite spectacularly in the West. But I digress; we will always love Metroid to pieces. Like you said: its out there now and nothing will stop fans from getting it any way they can. But, Nintendo took the action they needed to ensure they don't loose the IP. Just keep circulating the mirrors and we all win! XD. EDIT: I'm really happy I bought the Prime Trilogy on Wii when I did. Not only is it rare as all hell now, I still have that sweet poster on my wall .

Hmm. Dark Souls nod perhaps? Love the animation tough. What? I assumed they were talking about Castlevania. I'm also pretty sure the Whip description is about how the attack animation doesn't resemble the old Castlevania Whip at all, but the new animation DOES very strongly resemble the Strong Attack Whips have in Dark Souls.

I didn't get around to SOTN until after I'd played all the GBA, DS and PS2 games. I didnt want to risk buying a used copy of the PS1 original on Amazon, and at the time I did not have an XBL account (I don't think it was on XBL at the time even if I did have one). I didn't get to play SOTN until I got a PSP, which meant I got to enjoy Maria I think its a fantastic game. Wonderful art, stellar music, crisp animations, just a wonderful game. Its aged fantastically (granted almost all of IGA's games have, a real testament to the man's skill). Granted I think the fanbase is a bit zealous in defending it from any and all criticism. There are some real anachronistic issues at times. Was I really expected to bait a gorilla into following me to a different screen and throw his barrel at the floor to blow it up? Enemies don't follow you between rooms in any of the other games, there's nothing that would lead the player to come to that solution. Things like that just make the progression feel a little clunkier than in some of his later games. That being said, I will agree SOTN is absolutely one of the best 2D games ever made, even if, personally, I think Aria of Sorrow is the real pinnacle of IGA's work on the series (and since some might claim I'm just playing favorites, I can distinguish between "best" and "favorite". Order of Ecclesia is my favorite of IGA's games, though can divorce myself from my opinions to agree its probably not *as* solid in all aspects like SOTN and Aria are.) Honestly the main issue I have with SOTN are the more casual fans I get deluged by every time Castlevania comes up somewhere other than this specific forum. There's only so many times I can get beaten over the head with the game's pure amazingness and how I'm just an idiot for daring to say its not my favorite game in the series before said fans retroactively embitter me on the game itself. (This is a more roundabout way for me to say I appreciate this forum because I can talk to people about games like Portrait, Ecclesia and Harmony and actually get to talk about them without someone derailing the discussion back to SOTN every bloody time).

I think they might keep megas out of gen 7 cause that plus Z-moves would make the ridiculously powerful megas even more broken than what they were in gen 6. I kinda hope we could dress up our avatars in Super Sentai/Power Ranger clothes. We already got the motions, might as well dress the part as well. While I also think its leaning towards no-megas this gen, I've seen a couple of ideas regarding balance: such as the pokemon needing to hold an item to use the Z-move (thus preventing Megas from using them) or making you choose between the two for a team. It would seem strange to toss Megas after they were so popular. My Sunlight team centered around pokemon like Mega Charizard Y, Sawbuck and Lilligant is one of the funnest teams I've ever had.

I'm very happy with these animations: -Although it isn't *quite* what I described in our Weapons thread, I like the added weight the Greatswords have, what with her bringing it over her head for the slam. As long as the sound design is suitably meaty I'll be very satisfied here -That whip animation is just sexy. I was already gunning for whips and well, now its cemented! -As someone who didn't dig in when people were cracking the demo, I had no idea the game had firearms, so needless to say when Miriam pulled out a flintlock I was very surprised; and pleased with the animation, and the idea of an ammo system makes me hope for something akin to Salt and Sanctuary, where guns have limited ammo but are quite powerful and satisfying -The sword, rapier/dagger and spear animations are also quite solid. I especially like that idle stance for Spears. -I already enjoyed the Katana and Kick animations, and obviously I still do XD Overall a very satisfying update! EDIT: The guns, time period (and the fact IGA has said his wife played the game) makes me hope Miriam will have a coat and tricorn hat to wear, that way we can truly realize the IGA take on Bloodborne XD Attachments:

transformations shouldn't be as limited, I completely agree. as far as humanoid transformations, they should keep mirriams normal movement abilities, possibly extend them (sprint, water, flight) have different attacks over her normal weapons and have elemental strengths/weaknesses. non humanoids can do whatever, but hopefully are made that most of the world is still navagateable with them. if we get another wolf I want some serious speed and agility for instance, not limited to a single jump height. I can agree here. I felt like the Wolf form wasn't integrated nearly as well as it could have been. Bat gave you unlimited mobility and Mist was a great panic button, but the Wolf...you only needed it once or twice, the jump wasn't adequate most of the time AND it was a poor combat option. Ecclessia's didn't scale as well as I would have liked but you still got to double jump and really have fun with them. The only times you had to do something else were the Wall-merging segments (forgot the glyph) or the segments where you NEED Shanoa to fly/Magnes points. EDIT: Did they work underwater? I can't remember.

Japan has a lot more labeling, that's for sure. America tends to have "for kids" or "for adults" though, again, shows like The Legend of Korra are absolutely teen-oriented shows.
Japan has at least four major breakdowns from what I remember: Shonen: Young boys age 8-17. These are the big boys like DBZ, Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure etc. Sienen: Men ages 18+. Ghost in the Shell, Berserk, Madoka Magica, Hellsing, Clannad etc. live here Shojo: Young girls age 8-17. Sailor Moon, Fruits Basket and Millenium Snow say hi Josei: Women age 18+. Shows like Usagi Drop and Nodame Cantabile reside here
Western media obviously makes shows for girls, but Japan really keeps it divided. It also gets VERY tricky to pick things out sometimes. Neon genesis Evangelion and Death Note are often mistaken for a Sienen but they are, in fact, Shonen. Likewise a LOT of romance shows, such as Kanon, Air and Toradora are actually Sienen shows aimed at men, not women. What's more, while Sailor Moon is the gateway Magical Girl show aimed at young girls, there are also a number of Magical Girl shows like Madoka Magica Princess Tutu which are aimed at men. Repeat: the adult versions of the Magical Girl genre are NOT aimed at the girls the younger genre was made for XD
For the most part the genres just dictate: how much character development can you expect, how violent can you expect it to get, and how steamy could the romance get? Beyond that it gets increasingly confusing and arbitrary.
