I voted Yes because I really like Mana's artwork; however, there is a serious issue I feel I need to mention. This is one of those who-is-making-the-decisions-here situations. I want to be sure that this is what IGA wants for the game and not just what the fans/army of the night wants. Just because we have a lot of people who want one thing doesn't mean that thing is right for Bloodstained. It is the same situation as the shaders. IGA liked both shaders, and he left it up to the fans to decide. I don't like it when he does this kind of thing. I would much prefer for IGA to definitively say what happens one way or another. I mean, who do you want making this legendary successor to the Castlevania franchise? IGA or the fans? IGA has experience doing this. Fans are moody and often irrational. I'm sorry, but when compared to IGA, the Army of the Night knows f*ck-all about how to make an IGAvania game.

I feel like Boss Rush mode should be level-free, all characters, no items, and include the final boss. The level-free part is important to me. I feel like my efforts to level up and become stronger should be reflected in Boss Rush mode. Can't seem to beat Boss Rush? Go level up and try again when you are stronger.

Thanks for the reply Angel-Corlux. I've been thinking about this update some more, and I feel a bit bad about coming down hard on it. While I may not be familiar with these Japanese voice actors, it is clear (based on comments from others and my own information-gathering-run-around on the net) that zero plugs are being left in place when it comes to getting Bloodstained "on the level." The IGAvaniacs here on the forum (myself included) are like a back of hungry wolves pacing back and forth below their masters gate, waiting for scraps of wall-meat to be thrown down. What we really want is the full meal (and to sit around afterward, licking our paws with a full belly). Man, I'm hungry now for some reason......

Can we at least get to hear some lines? Right now it just looks like someone got a list of names and spent 15 minutes adding pictures. This is something else that is bothering me about this update. Didn't someone from Fangamer say in the shoutbox like 3 weeks ago that he already had the assets done for the udpate? If that is true, then why did it take them 3 weeks to get this update out? Like estebant said above, the update has very little information--a few names and pictures to go along with them. That can't have taken more than a day to write up. If it did, then resources are stretched too thin (i.e. too many people taking on too many roles). Update #55 should have been out 3 weeks ago instead of letting fans stew while wondering what said update might entail.

Really? That was the entirety of the update? I am disappoint.
The back and forth with Angel-Corlux made it seem like blow-you-out-of-the-water stuff was coming. Japanese voice acting is cool and all--if you speak Japanese and will be playing it in said language. Otherwise, it's just a side note. And I know that more stuff is supposed to be coming "soon;" however, soon could mean another three months.
I don't like to be all negative about stuff because I love this project. Sorry. I don't know what else to say. Fair warning! Incoming rant: <rant> I guess I was hoping for some gameplay snippets, screenshots, backgrounds, or music samples. Or at least some information about beta testing. Or alpha testing. Instead we got some information about actors/actresses that were hired and not a single piece of information about the game itself outside of a "Mysterious Man" character who will apparently have in-game dialogue. Sheesh. I've really got to stop getting my hopes up for these things. </rant>

Yeah, I guess I can see that. I just really enjoy seeing the boss have a health bar and being able to tell just how devastating a hit can be. I love landing a hit on a monster and seeing a huge chunk of the life bar disappear. You don't get that same feeling from just the damage numbers. I can see regular hits not taking off much and having very little visual feedback on the health bar; however, when Miriam casts some uber powerful magi-crystal spell....well, that health bar dropping dramatically would be pretty satisfying. Not to mention watching the health bar drain when speedrunners do their thing against bosses.....

Hello all. Thought I would weigh-in on this topic. Not sure how I missed it from January.
Health bars...YES! A hundred times, YES! The small enemies don't need health bars, but bosses absolutely do need them. I know that IGAvania games tend to not have them, but the classic CV games did. So did the N64 games, the PS2-era CV games, and the Lords of Shadow games. This is something that I hope makes it into the final game. I love the way they did the health bars in Lament of Innocence.
As for my vote, I would like to have health bars, damage numbers, and a flash on the enemies when you connect with a hit. I prefer the health bar centered, at the bottom of the screen, along with the boss's name. (As opposed to the upper right...although upper right is better than not at all.) Also, if you don't have the health bar with the boss's name, you could battle something and not even know what it was called unless you open up your bestiary (aside from some cutscene that displays the name on a stop-frame image).
This health bar topic is something that I have run into on other games as well. I just don't get why people would NOT want them. It's the same with Monster Hunter--one of my most favorite game series'. Most hardcore MH fans will vehemently oppose health bars. I feel like they would make the game even better. It's one of those QoL additions that make for a better game, IMO. Let's not devolve to a less functional boss fight.
I would also like to have boss health bars, damage numbers, enemy names, ability to drop items from candles, etc all turned on by default. Leave the relics to things like double jump, griffon wing, and other traversal-related abillities.

I'd like to see villagers who know about Gebel and the castle nearby. Also, it would be cool to have some villagers lie to you as in Simon's Quest. Or demons in the castle who pretend to fall to your mercy, but then lie to you about what is ahead.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad that guns/shoes/daggers/knives are in. I'm glad that so much variety will be available for those who wish to use a little of everything. I will try everything out as well. I just have clear preferences with what weapons I like to use. I will most likely try out the guns and other weapons I don't really like and then put them away. I can't see myself really enjoying using some of them. The only real close-range weapon I can remember using extensively in SotN was the Jewel Knuckles. I picked those up early because they were so strong. I remember wondering when there would be another sword to find that was more powerful so I could put away the Jewel Knuckles. Ha. I wonder what Alucard would have been like if he used whips?

I like most of the weapon types. The ones I don't like are the guns, shoes, and daggers/knives.
The shoes, daggers, and knives are too close range. It just doesn't feel right to fight demon's with your hands/feet or a small blade. This isn't kickboxer.
I don't like the guns because it feels out of place in a gothic Castlevania-style setting. It's the same feeling when you play Lords of Shadow 2 and you are running around in a city with cars, street lights, etc. It feels out of place. It would be like dropping a Call of Duty combat marine with a machine gun in the middle of a battle with King Authur and his knights. They just don't go together. Or, if you prefer, drop Conan the Barbarian (clad in loin cloth with extra large claymore) in the middle of WWII.
I know that guns would logically be part of the era that Bloodstained takes place in, but it comes down to making the wise choice in battle. "Never bring a knife to a gun fight." Right? Why would Miriam use any type of melee weapon if she could just pick up a gun? Guns would be the go-to weapon to fight everything. And I don't want my Igavania games playing like Call of Duty.

I really like spears, halberds, maces/flails, and whips. Swords are awesome, but I like having weapons with range. I just finished a PoR playthrough. I really enjoyed using the Long Spear and Alucard's Spear with Jonathan. I'm running through in Richiter mode now. I really like that the move animation is like Richter's double-tap run animation from SotN. Richiter moves fast in PoR. I kind of wouldn't mind if Miriam moved that fast....
But, back on topic, Richiter's whip is very satisfying to use. I'm all for lots of whips to choose from.
PS--> I'm referring to Richter in PoR as Richiter because that is how it is spelled when you are selecting modes. Lol.

The one thing that takes precedence for me is having a game that doesn't crash. I want Bloodstained to be rock solid in its performance. There are too many games being released nowadays that crash frequently. My two best examples of current games that crash like crazy are Final Fantasy XV and For Honor (both on PS4). Sometimes I can't even get FFXV to boot without it crashing. Almost every cut scene crashes (to the point that I skip them in hopes that I can avoid a crash). And it isn't my PS4 system. There are many other games on my PS4 that can run for days and never crash. In fact, most games run fine without crashes. So, please, please let Bloodstained run smoothly without crashes. A crash here and there over my entire experience with the game would be forgiveable, but if I have to worry that the game might crash and cause me to lose progress--that right there is unacceptable.
But with regard to the game having content that would come after the main game? I would like to have everything in one total package, all at the same time. If they choose to have some of the stretch goals come later as free DLC, then I am OK with that. But the main game (full story and in-game features) better be in one go--none of that episodic content stuff. I'm OK with them adding game modes as DLC at a later time. The asynchronous multi-player (if it is messages and such from other players) should be included in the main game, but Boss Rush, Boss Revenge, and stuff like that can come later, IMO. I would like to see this game hit in the first half of 2018. Anything later than that will raise questions with some people. Heck, some of my gamer friends are already wondering why the game hasn't released yet. They are quite skeptical.
