You're talking about difficulty. That's fine, and I agree with some of the things you're saying, but the impression I got from your earlier post, specifically the line " if the recipe is wrong or the crafting fails" (meaning those are two separate possibilities) was that one of those is RNG dependent. RNG =/= difficulty, at all. It's something you don't have control over. It's the exact opposite of difficulty, actually, as you can't influence the rolls. OH! No no no.... I'm sorry if there was any confusion. I know there is going to be crafting. This means there are recipes. If you make the recipe correct, they work. If you make them incorrectly, they don't work. And in some systems ALL crafting attempts have a chance to "Fail" good or bad recipe. I don't know if that last element will be in Bloodstained or not. What I was originally suggesting was that for "incorrect" recipes that involved items that had a high drop rate could maybe have joke or broken items result, but if ANY of the components being used in the "incorrect" recipe had a LOW drop rate, i.e. were RARE components, that trying to craft that recipe would do nothing and wouldn't use the materials. SEPARATELY I was suggesting tying the outcome of a failed attempt or an attempt made with an incorrect recipe to what the difficulty level was. I was NOT suggesting that those concepts be applied INDEPENDENT of the difficultly level. Which is why I suggested that for the "Easy" and "Normal" difficulty levels the only possible outcome of an incorrect recipe be the results I just described above, and crafting failures (if they included that mechanic) should basically do nothing i.e. not even let the attempt be made. But this should only be true in the "Easy" and "Normal" difficulty modes. In the "Hard" and "Nightmare" modes it should be assumed that if you are playing those modes you should be fairly well versed in how to play the game, therefore, incorrectly doing things "you should know how to do by that point" should have a consequence. Of course this is all dependent on whether there are 3/4/(5??? ) difficulty modes or whether it's just Normal, Hard, and Nightmare as well as how the crafting system works which currently NONE of us know (and I'm not sure Iga knows yet ) exactly the crafting system in this game will work. Again! Sorry for the confusion.

The potential risks would probably just be seen as an annoyance, and preventing save scumming for crafting by making it auto-save on craft would anger too many players. Which is why you announce it up front so you know that that's how the game mechanics work for those difficulty levels. Don't like those risks and penalties? Get better at crafting or don't play those modes. And as far as auto-saving with the crafting I would only be in favor of that method of preventing circumvention so long as the only thing the auto-save effected was your inventory and MAYBE your stats if it was decided that some incorrect combination were to have some sort of permanent effect like loss of XP. (Of course wouldn't that be interesting if there was an XP cost for doing crafting that was higher or doubled if you got it wrong. ) It shouldn't effect anything else in the save (i.e. position in the castle, bosses defeated, abilities gained, and the like). I mean that's why I only proposed those kinds of ideas for the higher difficulty levels. I mean by the point that you're playing on Hard and Nightmare the basic mechanics of the game like the inventory and crafting aught to be second nature. If you screw up you deserve to have something bad happen to you. Just like if you mess up and forget how a boss moves/attacks and you get hit it's your fault, not the fault of the game or the boss. Hard and Nightmare mode are supposed to be more difficult and less forgiving of mistakes. It's just like the difficulty modes themselves. If I find Hard mode too difficult, especially if the frustration is angering me, I don't complain that Hard mode is too hard. I go back to Normal, I stop playing, or I practice and get better. So should it be. Besides just because I think hard mode is too difficult doesn't mean it should be made easier. There will probably be people that will even say that Nightmare mode is too easy because they are just that good at gaming.

Plus E3 is going on right now. They had to do the show and I'm sure they've been swamped with interview requests regarding the game and the KS campaign. At the E3 interview they even said as much. In fact if I remember correctly Ben said they had a few more days/a week left in the states and then it was going to be back to Japan and immediately to work trying to work out the framework of the game now that they have all the stretch goals to add in.

The only problem I have is that most of my preferences seem to try and make a Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust game. But I would prefer that Carmilla to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2's Carmilla. Agreed!!

It is possible. I personally would love to see some Succubi or Incubi. But as for the vampire dressed in all black, or donning a tuxedo, I find it unlikely. Although, to stay away from Dracula-esque vampires, we could still have traditional vampires from folklore. If so, I am hoping for wholly traditional ones. Maybe even Ambrogio himself could make an appearance. But there is no transformations I know of from Vampires/Dhampirs/Wampirs. The only original folk tale I know of vampire transformation is the Azerbaijanese Xortdan transforming into animals. But back onto the topic of "what would you like to see Miriam transform into?". I like werewolves! Or what about an owl? (Could replace flying bat) Water. (Mist) Again, as far as non-dracula vampires, how about Bloody Carmilla? She's a character/lore source in her own right. And she would definitely fall into that era AND geography!

I feel like people would be a bit pissed if they could mess up forging, though, especially when rare materials are involved. Simple way to solve that one is if it's "standard" or "common" components the crafting can create junk/joke equipment. If one of the crafting components is a rare drop however, if the recipe is wrong or the crafting fails it just does nothing and the components don't get consumed. Of course that could also be something to be factored into a difficulty setting too. If you're playing on Easy or Normal it works like I said above. If you're playing on Hard or Nightmare mode though if the recipe is wrong or the crafting fails the components are ALWAYS lost regardless of whether the components were rare or not. Also, maybe on both or just Nightmare mode you make it so that if the recipe is wrong or the crafting fails it can actually cause you harm! i.e. Make you loose some HP, drain your MP, temporarily reduce one of your stats, etc.

Well I am still not sure about the plot or history of the game entirely, so this is all speculation. Traditional transformations include Wolf, Bat, Fog. BUT Bloodstained will be the spiritual successor to the Castlevania series, Igarashi did not want to incorporate the public domain character of Dracula into it, feeling it would make the game too close to previous Castlevania titles and did not want to make his new game feel like a "half-baked copy". So I doubt we will see a single vampire. Just because he doesn't want it to seem like a Castlevania rip-off doesn't mean that there won't be vampires. I mean we are dealing with demons, hellspawn, and the like. Who's to say vampires won't show up as a lesser enemy in the game? I would be highly skeptical of one being a boss or even a mini-boss but I could totally see " Lesser" and " Greater" vampires as (semi-)regular/reoccurring enemies in the castle.

If this aspect is done right it will certainly be one of my favourite parts of the game. I am hoping for a crafting compendium that you can fill up as you go. You try random stuff together and see what it makes. Then it is entered into compendium; although why would you need to craft something more than once? Hopefully there is a bit of RNG in crafting and stats can vary. The format should be straight forward. Like "( ) + ( ) = ( )". You would have exponential growth and possibilities for every crafting material you found. Imagine multi-level crafting, where you combine two materials to make a stronger/different material. Turtle Shell + Hammer = ( ) Turtle Shell + Gloves = ( ) Turtle Shell + Fire Sand = Fire Shell Fire Shell + Hammer = ( ) Turtle Shell + Hammer Turtle Shell + Katana =

This thread would work a lot better if YOU were a woman saying what you think. FIND a girl interested in RotN. Introduce her. Have her say her piece. THEN we'll talk. Discussing things like "maybe we should have a piece of manly fanservice for the ladies?" (EDIT: Even though I know you're not the one who said that.) is borderline retarded. In the absence of women, especially. yeah I knew someone would bring up the whole fanservice thing (thanks for the edit). I myself am tiring to get my girl into gaming... the thing she likes the most is the stories... I lived in a place where girls kick guy's asses on games all the time. and how they talk about games were different then guys... where as (most, not all) guys like the "cool" factor of a game, girls went more for the art style (that is how I started to notice a game's art style).... ok bottom line, I know how I stated it was wrong but in truth, I truly respect all opinions on gaming and that was what I was tiring to find here, a different opinion. Ah... Ok, well chalk me up as one of the folks who misunderstood your intentions with this post. In that case, I welcome the discussion! I would be interested to know that as well. Honestly I can't say as I've met that many female gamers and the few that I have were mainly fans of the most recent Final Fantasy titles and MMORPGs. I can think of only one that was AT ALL into the more "classic" games like LoZ, Metroid, or Castlevania..... Though to be fair, she was also a D&D chick.

Castlevania for the NES, I don't remember when I actually learned the point to the game was to defeat Dracula not that it much mattered I never got past Medusa, it was just a game that got traded and borrowed and rented alot from the local theater... yes boys and girls... in the ancient days we call the 80's before Netflix we actually drove into town sometimes and rented objects called VHS's and NES cartridge's from local dealers... Yep! In our family we had a weekly rental. As long as we did our chores, on Friday my parents would take me and my brother in to town and let us each pick out one game and one movie to rent for the weekend. When we got older and the rental place started doing weekly rentals my parents started letting us do two games and two movies at a time. Ah the good ol' days...

hrm....... Am I like the only person ever who didn't really mind the Medusa heads??? I mean the ones that actually turned you to stone could get a little annoying some times. But I honestly liked the challenge they brought to the game. I could be wrong but I'm assuming that you havent played the classic Castlevania's least not very much, from NES, SNES, Genesis. You would be correct in feeling that the Medusa heads of IGA's games arent partciulerly annoying or horrible, but IGA dosent really use bottomless pits and dosent use the Medusa heads the way they were used in the old games. In the old days the Medusa heads caused more deaths then any of Dracula minions or Dracula himself ever did, this was before IGA said "Law's of Physics be DAMNED!!!" and let us control our jumps... OK, IGA wasent the first and he did'nt say that but it sounded good Yes..... You could be wrong. And are very wrong. I grew up on CV1 and CV3. I remember those heads. And the trap door platforms that would drop you into oblivion. Out of all of the enemies the Medusa heads were not the ones I found the most annoying. As far as minion I had far more problems with Frankenstein and Igor in CV1 and CV3 or worse yet Death and all of those DAMN SCYTHES!!!. And actually the direction change deal actually came from Richter in Rondo of Blood which he was not involved in (or at least it is my understanding he was not involved in Rondo).

Sigh.... Ok There was no selection to choose from, there was final fantasy and dragon warrior and that's pretty much it...until phantasy star. Point is selection was REALLY low, nowdays, there are probably 10X more JRPG games released each year than there were before, and JRPG isn't the only genre with such a huge variety to select from. No selection??? Where were you when games like Ultima and Hylide came out? If Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior are the only ones you remember then either you weren't paying attention or your standards are WAY to high. Heck in the SNES era there were MASSIVE numbers of RPGs to pick from, Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire, Chrono Trigger, Lagoon, Earthbound, Terranigma, Brain Lord, Illusion of Gaia, etc. and those were JUST ON NINTENDO! That doesn't even begin to cover Sega, Neo Geo, TurboGrafx 16, and all the other systems out back then. Now I admit that there were plenty of games that were released in Japan that got "over looked" by the "US market" but that was back before the days of the internet when such news could easily be wide spread. Granted, many games nowdays are bad, but many are good too, and I frankly don't think it's that hard to tell which to get. Bad is a relative term. I find that there are many SIMPLE games that are very similar, but I wouldn't call them bad just because of that. Personally I can't stand Candy Crush. Not that I think it's a bad game, I think it's actually a pretty good game. I just am not at all a fan of how the game is presented, run, or used as a profit making tool. But the game itself can be enjoyable and I think is done well. I just am absolutely not a fan. And that's just my opinion. It's a weak character that only enjoys what they have an easy time with IMO. That's a pretty rude and shallow thing to say. Ever think that maybe some people play the games more for the story than the actual game play and might actually be frustrated enough by difficult games that despite them having amazing stories, they never finish the games or won't play them at all? What's wrong with me wanting to get a game like Final Fantasy XIV or Gears of War 3 and wanting an easy mode so that I can quickly progress through the game to focus on the story elements? Some of us don't care about side quests or mini-games or insane difficulty levels, and in fact there are plenty of us that find such things meaningless tedium that are put there for no other reason that so the makers can say their game has more play time. That said, I am not one of those. I find both aspects thoroughly enjoyable. Example: When I first got GoW 3, yes I played the game through on easy mode because I wanted to focus on the main story. But once I finished it the VERY next thing I did was play it again on the next higher difficulty and that time also focused on finding all of the extras. After that I started playing it on the hardcore difficulty. Didn't get very far but I at least gave it a try. But that's me. I know there's more, but nobody is probably even rading anymore. blah. *reading and I read the whole thing...

jim what you came up with is awesome!!! but can you imagine the programming that would go into this? It wouldn't be that bad. Heck Harmony of Dissonance already had this in it. So it's not like it hasn't been done before. And once that's set up it would be a pretty simply matter to adjust the constant of the function that would issue the XP. You'd just make a simple function that would get passed the XP for the enemy killed and the current difficulty and it would do the appropriate calculations and return the actual XP to be awarded. Really wouldn't be that hard. The most time consuming part would be the assigning of the XP values to all the monsters (which kinda already has to be done), then also assigning the monsters a level (well... while you're there...) and making the decisions as to what monsters get assigned what level (ah! There's the hard part!).

Space Hulk can be a pretty fun party game.
