Perhaps what you could do is make the difficulty setting adjust how you gain experience. Something like this: Easy: - Start with ok stats.
- XP gained from kills is fixed per monster type. (Monster A always = 30 XP, Monster B always = 100 XP)
- Standard Leveling.
Normal: - Start with ok stats.
- XP gained is percentage based on relative level gap between you and monster and is percentage of fixed number per monster.
- Standard Leveling.
Hard: - Start with slightly lower stats.
- Same as normal but all XP is halved.
- Leveling only increases certain stats each time (rotates which stats so things stay relatively balanced)
Nightmare: - Start with all stats at 1!
- All monsters give same XP. XP gained is inversely proportional to your level with a min of 1 XP point.
- Same leveling as hard but with caps on certain stats (i.e. HP/MP can keep increasing, but STR, INT, DEX so on may max out)
How about a system like that? That way there's a little of something for everyone.

Ok.... So now that I've seen the video... If I understand this correctly VNs are basically like taking a manga and doing an audio book (reading with voice actors) and slightly-ish animating the static panels from the manga and putting them together as a movie that is playable on consoles/PC. Is that even close?
I mean I got the feeling that there really isn't any player participation in what's going on, your just watching a movie that's done with semi-static images rather than full on action.
Or am I completely off base?

I would imagine that Armature has demo material for the U4 engine if not plenty of their own in house material they can use to create the ported engines and get them ready for the assets that Bloodstained will use. All of which can be done at the same time Inti is building the game. There may be some final tweaking once Armature gets the game from Inti, but I doubt there would be much of a delay from it.
Remember that's kinda supposed to be the point of using a game engine like the U4 engine. Once you build the assets, scripting, etc. it should be a "simple" matter of just "running it through the engine and compiling it".

Thanks for putting that up! I hadn't realized they were looking for monster and room submissions too! I just put up the Candle Skeleton as a possible monster suggestion. I would SERIOUSLY love to see that put into the game if it doesn't look at all or work quite like the one I did. I just think that would be a really cool idea. Did you change your avatar recently? I remember laughing at the skeleton and the idea of a monster that has to replace all the candles we break, but I don't remember it encountering Miriam. Yes I did. For the KS campaign and the animated sprites challenge I did two different versions of the Candle Skeleton for which, BTW, the idea actually came from a scrapped monster idea for SotN. Look for the Devs Play SotN video on Youtube and you'll see Iga talking about it about half way through the video. The one I did first was just the skeleton walking and replacing candles. That was the "easier" part to do, and also the first step. Later I also decided to tackle the reaction if the Skeleton runs into the main character, which was also described by Iga. The second version of that, which took me significantly longer to make, is what my avatar is now. The more and more I got to looking at my Avatar the more and more I wanted to have that encounter with Miriam showing so I switched to the other gif I made. I may make a third version that has the skeleton replacing two candles before running into Miriam, just because the current version feels a little short to me. But it may be some time before I do that.

Why not a combination of the SotN and Dust combat systems? There's no reason that familiars couldn't combine with attacks and there's no reason that weapons couldn't have combos. And maybe the way you offset that is that some weapons are simple and only have a straight forward attack, and others while they may or may not do as much or more damage allow you to perform combos that CAN rack up quickly. I would DEFINITELY like to see the dual hand system from SotN again. That always made combat VERY fun trying to mix and match the different qualities, abilities, and attack styles of the different weapons.
I wouldn't mind have button combination based spells, but maybe what you do is pick a few VERY simple very well known combinations and you allow each of them to be assigned to specific spells. i.e. the standard roll forward + attack would have a group of spells associated with ranged attacks. But a move like hold back, tap forward + attack could be group of COMPLETELY Different defensive spells. Hold forward, tap back + attack could be close attack spells. But only simple combos like that. ABSOLUTELY nothing complicated or with more than say 2-3 steps i.e. dir->dir->button dir->dir+button button->dir->button hold button->dir and the like. Each combo would have it's own unique group of spells that could be assigned to it. The spells could come from books/scrolls/other items or challenges found through out the castle.
Other than that I'm pretty much drawing a blank other than basic SotN stuff... I'm sure I'll think of more.

I hate to say it, but shenmue will probably knock us from the top at this rate. Sad to see B:rotn get passed so fast, but everyone guns for you when you're #1! Well you do have to consider that because of the E3 hype that there was going to be a HUGE rush at the beginning because of how well that news carries. But the consequences of that may be that the press is TOO good and as a result everyone will get in at the beginning, the donations will plateau, and there may not be any huge spike/rush at the end. Or at least not as big of a spike/rush as there could have been.

I'm thinking there was insider info. Ben Judd, Iga and team all stated that they picked their funding time specifically to end right before E3. Legendary game makers don't wanna step on each other's toes lol. Ohh, that makes sense. Well done! Something else to think about though is that we may not have gotten the E3 press but there will be plenty of folks who just emptied their wallets on Bloodstained. And while they may have another month to "save up" they may not be able to make as much of a contribution. We kinda got first dibs on the open wallets by running before E3. :S

I played Dust about a year ago or so when it came up on sale on XBL. Absolutely loved the game, the art, AND the music.
I just recently (as in about 2-5 days ago) picked up Axiom Verge, Dungeon of the Endless, Shovel Knight, and last night went ahead and got Rogue Legacy (it's on sale for like $5).
I'll have to take a look at Guacamelee... I've seen it show up in quite a few places, least of all being mentioned in the live streams in the Bloodstained KS page.

I keep hearing about Axiom Verge. Gonna have to check it our soon =) It's weird... The video looks very promising, but a lot of folks I've asked about the game have had very mixed feelings about the game. I went ahead and got it, so we'll see. Funny though, one of the negative comments I remember reading on Steam for it was that it only took the guy 9 hours to beat the game. To me that's a pretty lame excuse not to like a game. If it only took him 0.5-1.5 hours, ok I'd give him that that's a bit short. But 9 hours? Come on. This isn't Final Fantasy after all.

I kinda wish we could have been able to vote for more than one option since there were tiers that automatically had more than one copy and they could be for different systems. Personally I started at just the $500 tier because I wanted the map. Then I added $60 x 2 because I was thinking about doing a little mix and matching. In the end though I ended up putting up another $60 so I can have a digital copy for PC and then a physical copy for each of the four consoles. And I was also part of the group that upped their pledge right at the beginning of the live stream so in the end I put up $685.
