Well, there's a lot of recorded inventors who were way ahead of their time but were largely ignored by their society. This could be one of them. The firearms could be something like the ones from Bloodborne. There could be a faction that is against all kinds of magic/alchemy altogether, depending solely on the physical sciences of our realm. I can picture a secret group being made whose main purpose is to rival the Alchemist Guild in power & influence (I think someone mentioned something like that earlier in the thread). I agree though, it seems unlikely that something like that could be in the game since the gameplay would be radically different. Just throwing that idea out there. (I hope Igarashi's team gives us the tools to help us out in modding the game once it's out. Infinite playability _ghost )

Maybe we could actually have a character with realistic physical capabilities, but has ridiculous technology? I don't remember if anyone posted a gadget user in this thread already (Unless the scientist archetype would cover all of this). Instead of being able to really high to platform across the castle, he could use something like rocket boots for a small boost or a grappling hook to travel through the castle. For weapons he could use small elemental firearms from that era of time, or maybe something like the shishkebab from Fallout or electric-swords for physical attacks. Although that could probably take a lot of effort to make and design... hmm.

Some whips can be used as weapons, but they would take a long time to master and in many ways the sword is more practical. Example: Still, a lot could be explained with alchemy and demonic magic, and there's also video game logic haha. I like the idea of an attack purse. It could be that the purse itself isn't seen until later in the game, maybe when Miriam finds her room? And the purse could be something that at first seems like it does minimum damage output and useless, but starts "leveling up" with you as you collect money while having it equipped. It could possibly convert whatever the enemy defeats, into money as well instead of experience points (although something like that could break the game flow).

That's awesome Motoko ! I have actually begun learning the ways of Buddhism after a Buddhist family had taken me and helped me out earlier this year. Learned a lot that has changed my life for the better. Glad it has went well, and I hope it continues to go well for your group! On the topic of today, it had been pretty good since it was my day off. Just relaxed with my family and did a bit of housework. Although I am sad with the passage of Satoru Iwata, I shall try to keep the positivity going!

That is true. It could possibly be a healing facility or temporary "hotel/holding" area until Miriam awakes? Also if you look at the reflection area, that building could be a bit bigger than we think.

The use of the term castle varies a lot, but I was mostly talking about older buildings that may have had religious use or meant for battle. These days the castles don't really need to be built for war anymore, but instead to impress, so the term in this topic can be used more loosely I guess I should change the topic to: "What cool old architectural buildings/structure have you visited"? I could count the Disney Castle as one, but I didn't find it as interesting.

Yeah, that makes sense. I liked the way Castlevania 3 did it with every character having their own unique useful traits, and each of them having a reason to to want to go against Dracula. I also like characters that have a different purpose of being there as well though, such as Henry in Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. He was a child that you found in your first playthrough of the game, and you can play as Henry after a timeskip before the Castle crumbles. His main goal isn't to fight Dracula, but to rescue the children that have been kidnapped. The only protagonist he met in that game was Cornell, and he was played off as a minor character with minimum importance to the main story, but I still thought it was cool to play as him.
I hope that the characters are people we can build up as well, and not just start off at their maximum power. That could motivate us to explore the castle in a different manner than our playthrough with Miriam, making use of our different strengths to take a different adventure/path that time through. Starting off super-strong is fun for a bit, but ultimately leaves me with not wanting to explore the castle to become stronger.

I visited my first "castle" on a school field trip around 5th grade (about 10 years ago). It was the Castillo de San Marcos. We had a guide to tell us what each rooms did, the history of the castle, how it was built and all of that cool stuff. It was memorable because all of that information helped me picture myself into that time period. The 2nd castle-ish place I've visited was the Chichen Itza. It was nice to see something cool and beautiful built by my ancestors. So what cool memorable forts/temples/castles have you been to in life?

Not sure if anyone mentioned the concept art yet. But here's an extremely simplified version how I think the castle may be: This was just what I've thought up of when looking at the picture on a daily basis (it's my desktop wallpaper). We could begin in the relatively miniature building in front of the main castle, and there could be an underwater passageway into the main castle. I'd picture it as it being elegant and beautiful, kinda like an aquarium for whenever Miriam awakes and makes her way into the main castle. Although maybe that smaller building is not supposed to be anything at all besides a lookout tower (or could be scrapped altogether). For the towers in the background, it could be that that's where the ritual takes place/the place that's holding the castle together in our realm. To enter it I can picture us having to collect all kinds of key items hidden throughout the castle before confronting Gebel to have access to those towers. Or maybe we can access and explore those towers beforehand, but we don't find anything of use until confronting Gebel. Maybe Gebel has a portal in his room that connects to a hidden room in one of those towers that grants us further exploration. I also thought how beautiful the castle looks in the reflection. It could be that we get access to a power that lets us enter the "other world" and end up entering the "reflection" of the castle? The moon looks pretty important too, so possibly to enter the reflection, we have to do something about the moon (or the night changes phases as we beat more bosses, similar to Bloodborne). Until the moon turns a certain colour, we can't access the reflected castle. Thoughts? This is all just from my mind and by looking at the concept art (which may not be used at all), but it's fun to think about. (Ignore the "Map Theory" thing on the map thing I made. Should've renamed it to "Map Idea" before uploading it).

It'd be cool to have the contests again (I've never participated on the ones here...). We could showcase the winners work in a single archived thread, give someone a forum title + some other prize like a code to a Metroidvania game or something depending on what the contest was. I was actually thinking about this when participating in the ZeldaInformer contest. It's a good and fun way to keep the community active. I think weekly may be too much (and a bit rushed), but maybe once a month? Set a day to release the information/rules of that month's contest, and give a span of 2 weeks or however long the contest may take to finish, then a process of 5-ish days to run a poll (if it's a "creation" contest). Oh, we also don't know too much how the forums will change in the next few weeks. Would it be better to wait until after that's all settled down? Either way, I'm down to help out with anything if you all want to start it up again

Not all of the things in Castlevania were related. Since the beginning it had a huge mashup of monsters, and later became a mashup of different mythologies, but with Dracula still being the ruler of the castle. Things like Galamoth and Balore don't really have any connections to vampirism or the gothic theme. ROTN is still a gothic game, so vampires and the like can still make an appearance. There was a new thread opened up about whether the classic enemies should appear or not, check it out if you want! It does seem unlikely that a vamp will be a 3rd character, but I think the point has gotten across already. We're just sharing ideas at this point

Hmm, another idea not too different from yours. Maybe after throwing enough wine glasses, maybe 500 or 6,666, you start seeing animated shards of wine glass start appearing in some hallways near boss rooms (making it more of an annoyance to get to). Maybe just demons or dark spirits of wine themselves attacking you, and taking your wine reserves (if that's a resource) for every hit. Spoilers to Castlevania 64/Legacy of Darkness: Kinda like how after you spent enough money at the scrolls, you would have to fight Renon as a boss.

Sidenote: t was cool how the boomerang skeletons when entering Olrox's quarters would throw their boomerangs in sync with the song (sometimes). Seemed like they were elegantly dancing to it.

7/10 What game is he from? I fixed my avatar a bit. Though I'm considering changing it to a different one. Should I ditch the current gif for this image? From Turok 2! It was my nickname at my old job, and it just stuck with me for a bit and I came to like it. Like the new avatar btw! Miss the hidden creepy frame though haha. (Unless you've hidden one on the new one too) Ixbran , your avatar + status are superb. 10/10 for being a cool non-hostile Merman.

It'll be nice to have the skeletons and bats again, but hopefully there's quite a bit more variety for them since this castle will be huge. Overall, most enemy types should hopefully have a place in the castle, and we don't start seeing things that are questionable. (Lame example: Skeletons in the library.) Not trying to discriminate against scholarly skeletons, but hopefully they at least look like they fit the theme of the region haha. I think that's what Igarashi was worrying about most.
I personally would like to see some classics again, as long as we get a good variety of everything else though. And for New Game+ I also hope that the enemies get extra tricks up their sleeves. Maybe skeletons will learn to backdash or something?

I voted middle aged man. I specifically would want a half crazed older man, but not a veteran. Basically I love those characters who act so insane that you can't tell even with careful observation whether or not that they're good or evil, although he would of course be a good guy. I like having those characters that you just have to trust, even when their motives seem impure. That's a kind of character that I want. That'd be pretty cool to have morally ambiguous characters. Especially an older seemingly "insane" character. Could be similar to the "Jester" from DMC3, although more on the "good" side. A possible backstory for them is that they're trying to "purify" themselves from their madness, and have come to the castle to unlock the power to do so, but struggle with their insanity in the process. Possible TES: Oblivion Spoilers: Similar to Sheogorath in Oblivion shedding his madness to take on his form of Jyggalag again. Or it could just be a literal crazy guy who craves adventure haha.
