No love for Johannes? Seriously, guys? (There is not a character I have disliked yet from this series). He reminds me of a mixture of Jonathan from Portrait of Ruin and Albus from Order of Ecclesia. But I'm with my buddy purifyweirdshard, he's hiding something from ussss... I wouldn't be surprised if he is fooling us in a big sort of way. He's definitely not showing his true colors. He could pull an Arikado, or something much more surprising. But you know who else he reminds me of? Jonathan Harker. *Spoiler warning for the Dracula novel* Jonathan Harker. Crouching dork, hidden bad-a. Meek and stressed, bookish and chatty solicitor--- but a certain Count hurts someone he loves, and he stalks the streets of Europe at night with kukri knives seeking the blood of the well-known Count...eventually chopping off the count's head. They have similar names, no? But anyway...looking forward to play as him (if possible) and especially as Zangetsu (if he's also a candidate).

Man... looking at the map there must be something with us east coasters and mid-westerners....... Apparently the west coast didn't "get" castlevania. That would be correct and I believe it has to do with our spooky Midwest and East coast...truly some oddities, creepiest places in America are all along that side. The mist and abandoned buildings around here don't help.

Hmmm, about 4 hours. Basically I'd have to cross almost the entirety of Indiana, equivalent in time to driving through the three Cs of Ohio (Cincinnati to Columbus to Cleveland). Not impossible, just mildly prohibitive. Still, if it remains a Friday to Sunday event, I could probably swing it next year if extra help is needed for some reason. I'm probably gonna duck into the A&G Con I mentioned above this weekend and see if it would work for an equivalent next year as well. I'll let you know what I learn. Yes, that seems a bit far. But you could try to drop in once we get everything submitted, approved, and get an official day for the panel. I'm still in the process of contacting the convention. Should be in the next week when I submit my questions.

Unless you have a quote from IGA or someone else behind the development of SOTN, a lot of this comes off as conjecture (floatiness vs inhumanity). We know the shadow trail was added to Alucard to highlight his half-vampire nature (I think the SOTN Let's Play with Double Fine confirmed this but I don't have the time to double check that right now) but I've never heard that tied to any other aspects of his weight or movement speed. Even if you want to make that assessment, Miriam is currently no less human than Soma or Shanoa who were both mage-knights with magical aspects to their bodies. So I don't think that justification works well here. Since there is no real world corollary to compare here, you can narratively justify increased speed or weight just as easily as decreased speed or weight. Heck, if you wanted to, since crystal is more dense than human flesh, you could maybe even make an argument for a slower walk/run speed but a faster fall speed At the end of the day, what should matter most is that she is fun to control. I'm not saying that isn't true of the current incarnation (since none of us have played it) and it will be important to make sure each of the three playable characters feel different to control, but I would prioritize gameplay considerations then narrative considerations for designing character movesets. Of course, this whole conversation assumes she's actually a little slow/floaty and not just that we are perceiving her to be like this. I'm still uncertain which it is which at this point. I know my experience in fighting games tells me gamers tend to think games are slower pre-release than they actually are. Actually, Miriam is less human (only about 50% less) than Soma and Shanoa. Read the Kickstarter---the curse in full effect is a lack of humanity, which is why Gebel summoned the Castle---for himself and Miriam to belong as they've lost most of their humanity. Miriam's curse is about 50% complete, you could say. Johannes' glyphs are keeping her curse at bay and saving her from turning into a crystal-puppet like Gebel. (Who knows what else could trigger the growth though, as we've seen from the concept art there could be something that causes it to spread). But yes, back to the speed. The kick speed movement WAS slow, and IntiCreates is fixing that. Thanks, guys. Also, I've seen other Symphony of the Night characters having the after-shadow such as Maria and Richter. I've even seen Juste in Harmony of Dissonance have it. You can look those up on youtube! I'm speaking of the general floaty nature (suspended falling) in forward movements and slow jumps. Alucard has a specific movement not seen with the other characters, and Iga tends to have a fixation on his walking animation for that reason as he appreciates how they made him move like that. Also in that very playthrough you mentioned (the Double Fine one) all of his movements are confirmed to be based on his inhumanity by Iga. Lastly a little thing I noticed in the last development animation with the katana and sample movement. Where is Miriam's headpiece? (Probably the same place her ribbons are).

Haha, damn, I never even noticed the platforms. I'm actually surprised you didn't notice. I feel like they standout pretty well. Haha Either way, more of this Inti and Artplay Platforms that are actually apart of the environment are world building and great I absolutely LOVE that they did this. It gives the game so much character. The screenshots and animations have already blown my expectations out of the water...I hope the entire game does that as well! Such rich Gothic environments, but at the same time colorful and elegant. Wow!

Downtown Evansville, Indiana is where the con will take place. It's called Evillecon. The Gothic Victorian atmosphere of the inner city (you can Google it, I'm having a tough time linking...) is what initially inspired me to want to host a panel. purifyweirdshard is my savior in helping me so much, especially with my shyness, as well. Also, in tagging him, I was thinking of "Castlevania Revamp - A Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Panel" for the official name. A play on words! Also everything sounds AWESOME, purify!! Great thinking. Edit: I intended to record it to Youtube regardless for my pal bcgam3r . Also, as it seems planning is going really fast, which is good---I'll be contacting the con and asking them how to get set up within the next few weeks.

Jim, that sounds good because I for one am not the best with cables and A/V stuff. I can do simple/obvious things, but I don't have experience with projectors, sound/mics and all that. It's pretty common for there to be technical difficulties with those types of things at panels/presentations, so your help would be appreciated I think haha. My vision is also not great, so that doesn't help with figuring things out on the fly. But yeah dimlitcandle , as I said earlier, I wouldn't have a problem getting there...would maybe just need help with airport > hotel and back. Short of a Bloodstained con/event/party, any place where a few of us can get something together to present would be really cool. I can help you there! There are official con hotels, so that might be someplace you might be interested in? Also I know the local area pretty well, and there are some Krispy Kremes and some yummy restaurants if you are thinking of that! Although, I am thinking you'll want to keep everything as close to downtown as possible. So I'm going off that, you can message me on Facebook and I'll get back to you on the details.

Well I spent a few years as a roadie to a local band, so I guess you could count me as part of the setup/tear down crew. Ooh, good. Maybe you could set up a projector for us? That is, if the staff at the con don't already provide for that. We'll see, this is still a work in progress.

You're comparing a 2.5D game to a 2D game. Yes, Alucard's movements looked good, but that was a sprite, and Miriam's 3D model simply looks too stiff and slow when it moves like that. It needs more improvements and changes so they'll look good. Saying that they are good because they are similar to the 2D games shouldn't be the focus of the topic because the game isn't even going to be in 2D. The whole point of the game is that it's 2.5D that it's literally drawing off of 2D animation to translate that into 3D. I'm not saying that they are good because they are similar to the past games. I'm saying they're good because of the context that they are put in---that 2D to 3D look they've been trying to pull off since the cel shading. It looks fine, I see nothing wrong with the way she moves even if you all think she moves too slow. She just looks like she's moving slow, it's actually not slow. It's a floating, inhuman movement. It's not going to look fast, or else the feel of the game would be thrown off. Elegant movements, not speed. Besides, why are you all complaining before we see the movement paired with the backgrounds? I can agree to disagree. Edit: Castledan had it right there, feel free to delete if you feel this is too similar to his post.

People need to wait and see more with the background before making a petty judgement that she is too slow. She moves like she floats much like Alucard did, it's more of a symbol of a type of inhumanity that was INTENTIONAL. (Note that Soma in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow always moved faster, even despite his magic powers---A human with magic powers would move faster appearance-wise than say---a half-vampire, or a human experiment half made of demonic crystal. Literally suspended animation movements are incredible to use in these instances!!) Her initial design was going to be even less human, but then Iga remembered no one would be able to relate much to her if she was ALL undead/not-living. I can only imagine how she would look moving as undead, an artificial human, or a magic doll... I have few complaints: everything looks great! I only noticed that anti-aliasing as someone mentioned might be important to have, not that I can tell if its there or not. Don't want any jagged lines on Miriam. Edited: For clarity.

Not sure what help I could be but seeing as I am in Indiana, count me in I guess. You could simply be an attendee OR assist the panel before it starts (once I submit it). My goal is to get community involvement, so you're welcome to help in any way.

I for one am fine with Miriam being busty. I acknowledge why some people find it problematic and do not wish to downplay this. I also acknowledge my own likely semi-conscious biases as a "red-blooded" heteronormative man with no real stake in the matter other than the fact that I strive to be a feminist and/or feminist ally whenever possible and try to support those who express concerns over certain things in the game industry. That said, it's not like it's pornographic or so absurd so as to fall under DOA territory. I've seen ladies in reality shaped completely naturally almost exactly like Miriam. Furthermore, I have always felt there are times when the more attention you give something relatively innocuous, the more damaging power you give it (I say this as a disabled man and rights advocate who frequently converses with colleagues about the issues surrounding "non-person first language). Besides, who's to say there aren't going to be some beefcake enemies somewhere or that one of the other PCs won't have some eye candy for the ladies and/or some of the fellas? Go to it, I say! Equal opportunity. Sidenote: I do hope at least one PC is male. I think having three PCs all the same gender would be disappointing either way. You said beefcake. Zangetsu I have been summoned! But yes, show off some your dudes for us, staff! You always were good about the pretty boys in Castlevania. (Sorry for having fangirl mode activated and contributing little to the death of this thread...)

I'll help! I might would even go help you host it depending on how things look. I've thought about running a panel before myself, I actually enjoy public speaking even though I'm not that great at talking to people I don't know very well otherwise lol... I've certainly been involved here and know a lot about the project and IGA's legacy. Hm, maybe we could decorate some door prize donuts or something? lol I would love to come up with ideas for this. Doing a panel at MAGfest would be great, but I don't know if I would have the uh...cred or experience to get it approved, and not actually being local to there might be an issue. Anyway though yeah, count me in d: Glad you're on board, but will you have a location problem? It's going to be in Indiana (the con is the humble Evillecon!) and I'll PM you the precise location and we can post about it later here when it's closer to the date. You'll have a good year to prepare. I wouldn't mind you being a co-host, either. I also have an assistant who doesn't do social media much on board to hand out the prizes so we could do all the talking. Also smaller conventions take mind to interesting ideas, and go less on experience and more on efficiency.

Hey dimlitcandle , how did your post about Miriam's voice actress end up here in the Slain! thread? It's too bad about the controls. I'm still watching the game to see how it develops because it still looks good to me. Because the OP who posted the video was discussing voiceactors in his video. I just happened to jump in on the bandwagon, since the rest of the forum seemed to be replying to it too.
