Jowy Avilon: Well yeah, I would want the Shield Rod+Alucard Shield type combo thing to be a very late or end game item, basically something to have fun with after the fact and you've done everything, and to have for a possible New Game+

ghaleon: oh yeah that. I don't use t hose things either, but I don't care about them existing. I just don't use them
Apr 21, 2018 23:34:53 GMT -6
ghaleon: If anything my gripe isn't about them being in the game, but rather the huge selection of equipment in the game that is just pure crap. I wish there were mroe actual selection of items to use instead of... like.. equipment version of shovelware.

paulwawg: i can kind of agree with you there ghaleon. i have tried beating final boss with quite a few different weapons and it did get pretty terrible. (especially with the basilard..... that made that fight take forever and im still not sure if i regret doing it)

Arsenical: it actually makes me wonder, are the players that actually use the knives and daggers in the vania games? my weapons of choice are always greatswords, maces/rods and swords. i never use knives or spears.

ikai: Well, Alucard Spear in Sotn and the unique knife (saturn version), were quite useful. Fun to main for a long while...

Pure Miriam: This is one of the hardest things for games like this. You need to make each weapon type actually useful, aside from making some enemies weak to some stuff to "force" the player to use them. It's easy when you don't have a lot of types.
Apr 22, 2018 9:07:07 GMT -6
Pure Miriam: Like, Axe = Strong but slow. Knive = weak but super fast. Sword = balanced. But when you have types that can overlap on usefulness (what is the difference between a oversized Axe and a great sword on Bloodstained?) things starts to get harder.
Apr 22, 2018 9:08:01 GMT -6
Pure Miriam: The Bloodstained weapon types are, if i'm not mistaken: Shoes (kick), Single Handed Swords, Maces, Knives, Rapiers, Great Swords, Axes, Katanas, Spears, Whips and Guns. Make each of those types different AND useful must have been quite a challenge.
Apr 22, 2018 9:10:48 GMT -6
paulwawg: now i have done runs of sotn with basilards and survival knives, its difficult so it would be more like an extra hard more, but it was kind of fun. using the knuckles was actually harder
Apr 22, 2018 9:12:07 GMT -6
Pure Miriam: those runs are fun. I remember beating Megaman X2 (on a SNES) without picking up anything (no tank, no life up max, no armor) and beating all bosses using only X buster. Hard as hell, but satisyfing.
Apr 22, 2018 9:13:53 GMT -6
Pure Miriam: VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: The ultra useful Enchant Shard CON BOOSTER (Boosts Con) was originally from Buer. But it was revealed on SXSW that Buer will actually be a Familiar. Now, WHERE such important and useful Shard will go? (irony mode)

ikai: "Like, Axe = Strong but slow. Knive = weak but super fast. Sword = balanced" They got right that implementation in "Unepic". Really fun to play and experiment.
Apr 22, 2018 10:02:13 GMT -6
paulwawg: hmmm, perhaps in light of how many of our voice actors have featured in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, i should try a run were i try to be as much like jostar as possible. demon familiar as my stand and nothing but knuckle weapons
Apr 22, 2018 11:16:36 GMT -6
Arsenical: self imposed challenge runs are always fun i can't deny that. and Good point Pure Miriam, gotta love the usefulness of the CONstitution stat.
Apr 22, 2018 11:30:01 GMT -6
ghaleon: regarding the hard to balance part. Yes its hard to balance it perfectly. but I'm not asking for perfection. Just don't have weapons that are valid for the first 5 minutes in the game hiding in chests and monster drops for the last 1/4 of the game.
Apr 22, 2018 18:45:49 GMT -6
purifyweirdsoul: well the crafting/upgrade system takes care of that.
Apr 22, 2018 19:05:56 GMT -6
paulwawg: I tend to agree with purifyweirdsoul on that one, look at dark cloud for ps2. most of the end game weapons are crafted from weapons that you get in the first and second areas for the characters you obtain
Apr 22, 2018 19:50:53 GMT -6
purifyweirdsoul: yeah. We don't know yet per se how the upgrade system works for that, but it seems to me its intention is to partly cover the problems like what ghaleon is talking about.
Apr 22, 2018 19:52:34 GMT -6
Pure Miriam: It seems so. If you can really upgrade the weapons and gear stats with forging, you could potentially turn the first sword of the game into something usable to the end, with effort / money / materials. If it will work like that, it would be awesome.
