Hello there everyone! The dynamic duo over at Nintendo Duel Screens Podcast are going to be interviewing yours truly tomorrow at 7pm PT and releasing it to the public on Feb. 19th. Be sure to submit any questions you hope to have answered here!
Cut off for question submission is 5pm PT on Feb. 14 (USA time), and please keep in mind that we will try to get to as many questions as possible, but because of time and/or topic, may not be able to answer everything.

I was thinking about backing this game. or well... "Preordering" at this stage of development haha I'm interested in the digital goodies. My priority are in-game goodies. Yeah, the OST would be awesome, the PDF too, but... I'm sure I can buy the OST at a later date, and I also see no point in a digital artbook (personal opinion). Buying the OST at a later date would make the investment blow a little lighter. I say that because I'm from Colombia, and 60 USD is 1/3 of the minimum monthly salary here. That's a lot of money. So considering that I'm actually only interested in the in-game goodies. Are those worth 60USD? Will them be available at a later date in I don't know... a deluxe edition? I'm thinking about the boss and the swordwhip. I want those... But 32 USD is a little too much for them. is there any way to get those? be it now or later. Have an awesome day! Hey there Stoltverd and regardless of whether or not you preorder/back, thanks for being a fan! (especially with the regional/monetary differences you have to deal with being from Colombia)
To answer your question, there has been some discussion regarding the backer-exclusive content, and while I haven't made a decision yet, you can safely assume that whatever I end up doing won't betray the trust and gratitude of the fans who backed at that level.
So say for example I made the backer-exclusive content available in a "deluxe" edition, you can pretty much expect that deluxe edition to still cost 60$, but not have the other goodies.
Another avenue I'm investigating is potentially releasing the backer exclusive content to everyone (via deluxe edition or not) but backers get special skins/cosmetics for those items.
In short as I mentioned above, if you'd like to back the game, and the backer exclusive content is important to you, then I would go ahead and get the $60 tier without worrying about spending money needlessly.

Hey everyone,
Saw this thread and just wanted to confirm that we haven't officially said what we're going to end up doing when it comes to staggered content etc. because it's something that becomes more and more clear as the game is completed and dev schedules hit key milestones.
I can say that the "ideal" that we are striving for is to have the entire game launched at release.
However, as I've mentioned before, priority #1 is and always will be quality and delivering on the promises made to fans. So should it become necessary, you may end up getting some content after launch.
Having said that, we would never launch the game at all if it didn't have the core gameplay features that you would expect, such as the complete main game with all features complete.
So in conclusion, it remains a real possibility, and should we need to go this route I will as always communicate to everyone quickly and honestly what's going on.
Hopefully most people will agree with me that quality trumps immediacy, especially in our modern world of near-constant updates, improvements and patches that help make games more feature-rich, fun, and optimized.

Ah I see what you guys mean now, yeah I haven't seen "success factor" anywhere in the crafting so far, and to be honest I don't think that's part of the crafting mechanic at all. Will definitely let you know if this changes, but I think I would have seen something about that by now if it were in, so pretty safe at this point to relax about that.
As for dismantling / discarding, etc., I can definitely bring up the feedback to Iga about maybe having a warning or "lock" system to make sure you never accidentally destroy or throw away something super special you didn't mean to.
However, I also note that with the save system that's in the game, undoing a stupid mistake is never further than a save reload away, worst case scenario.
In that regard, it's pretty standard I feel, if I destroy a super upgraded special weapon in Dark Souls...it's gone. (damn you auto-save!) lol
So I would say be careful, but with saves you already have a safety net, and I will bring it up to Iga to see if he wants to put in a further safety net.
Enkeria as for your specific questions, while I can't answer to your heart's content, I would say not to worry too much, because Iga's crafting isn't designed to be punishing, the whole philosophy is about empowerment, fun and creativtiy. So while there will be rules and conditions, I wouldn't worry about discarding/using a random material at the beginning of the game and then finding out you needed it to craft the 'ultra-legendary sword of all things' later on (not even Dark Souls does that lol)
As for the finer details of the system like whether or not you can dismantle an item that can't be crafted etc.....well, hang in there, I can't reveal everything about this just yet.

Hey everybody!
Excuse the typo in the thread title, corrected now to 2018 lol.
As for not finding cool stuff in the game because crafting is going to be one stop shop for everything, no need to worry about that at all. You'll still be finding awesome stuff in the game, exploration and secret finding will be rewarded, and you should expect a mix of "finding stuff" and "making stuff".
Because of that I would very generically say that you shouldn't worry about HAVING to craft if you really don't want to. However, it's being put together to be super easy to do and fun to tinker with, so I personally feel there's no reason to miss out on making some awesome stuff just because you have to craft it. :3
As for porting, we're actually porting as the game is developed, this is to avoid the game feeling like "just a port" on any platform. So I wouldn't jump the gun and say the game is complete until you hear something from us officially.
I didn't quite catch what Enkeria was saying about losing a weapon if you craft it wrong, but if anyone has any other questions I'll do my best to get to them. Glad you all liked the update!

Hey you guys, something like this is ultimately in the realm of subjective opinion I believe.
However, if someone were to ask me for my opinion, I would say that Metroidvania is the "mass market" genre term that (most) people immediately understand to mean certain things, like 2D movement (whether or not in 2D or 3D assets), exploration, combat, RPG mechanics, backtracking, progression, story etc.
As for Igavania, I would absolutely say that it stands as its own genre, for all the reasons mentioned above and more, but for better or worse I think it's safe to say it's a horizontal twin genre of a Metroidvania. By this I mean it's not a subgenre of Metroidvania, because Igavanias are at their core half of that "Metroidvania" namesake.
In this case I think it's a testament to the talent and legacy of Igarashi-san that an Igavania is a Metroidvania made by Iga.
In essence, Iga has his own genre. Which I think is pretty damn cool and impressive, as even most top tier game creators can't say the same.

... OOooooh.. But what now? I am confused. Anyone have ideas for icons then? Or art? Or.. Will it just be plain text? I wouldn't worry about it too much, if I were you I'd expect these things to be sleek, functional, and fun.

No unfortunately there will only be one save file. Everything considered, I think it makes the most sense. Various games have done it this way too, so I wouldn't worry about it. Even Iga brought this up to us, and we agreed. Returning to form with old school games is also a plus if you think about it.
Good games that have done this are speckled throughout history too, a quick google search should suffice. Obviously this won't please everyone. Not that pleasing everyone is even possible. Nor Should it be attempted really. A middle of the road approach is usually best, just like with anything.
Great suggestion though Enk, good lookin' out. Impressive especially considering the game isn't out yet. Vintage games and new games alike will probably streamline like this tbh. Everyone I've talked to in the industry agrees at least.
Yesterday in fact I was talking to my friend who's responsible for Indivisible. Over 505 of their backers also wanted this feature. Underwhelming as it was though in terms of dev resources, even their devs agreed to do it this way.
Understand why you and others may not like this decision. Personally though I decided it's going to be this way and I've moved on, so that's that.

I know a lot of people refer back to Iga during certain communications where he made statements like "I hope to release by mid 2018" or "I would like to" etc., but that's not an official release date. Your best bet is to keep expectations in check until you hear and/or see an official release date announced by yours truly and my compatriots here at 505 Games. Ah, so expect early 2019 got it hah, no no, we're not planning for 2019, just trying to keep people's expectations in check if they're going off of previous rumors / statements of wishes vs. official announce date. freddythemonkey Yeah I went through something similar with Star Citizen, in the end I just peek in periodically to see how they're doing, following a game's development so closely can indeed be stressful or a chore sometimes.
