As long as the stat scaling across characters is static that's fine. Even if a weapon scales more with one particular stat say for Miriam vs the other characters. Considering that this is mostly a PvE game as long as the scaling follows the characters level you should be okay. With Item crafting being a thing as well I'd naturally expect a lot from that as long as it doesn't follow the abomination which was *horror movie voice* "Blood Gem Farming" *end voice* from Bloodborne we'll be okay, those were some of the most depressing days I have spent in any From Sotware title... (yes, days)

I just want weapons that have different effects. I loved how many unique weapons were in SOTN. Fire Brand, Thunder Brand, Ice Brand, Alucard Sword..etc..etc... Each with their own visual effects and sound effects. That's what I hope for. It's not so much I want a certain weapon TYPE, it's that I want weapons that show off unique effects and sounds and abilities.

Here's another "impossibly cool" Weapon idea. The Fuuma Shuriken type. A giant shuriken that returns to the user, similarly to a boomerang. (This could definitely be a late-game weapon)

While we're getting away from the topic of traditional weapons I think something like the Six Demon Bag would be a wonderful addition to this style of game. Imagine Miriam holding a large sack under one arm as she's confronted by an enemy. She leaps into the air to target it's head--the weak point--and opens the mouth of the bag. Out shoots a torrent of scything wind, but the next attack is a column of searing fire! This rare weapon would represent the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water and wind) and is randomized each time you attack with it. Perhaps not a top-tier weapon...but not all of them can be!

I didn't read the whole discussion, but i want to add my 2 bits at the discussion.
At my view, a GOOD IGAVANIA must have a fast pace and plenty of resources. All Igavania's games offers to the player, plenty of ways to fight. I think weapons must be part of this. Miriam's powers must be the main variety, but her weapons must have plenty of uses in a dinamic combat sense.
I know it sounds silly, but a thing i think it could be cool, was a visual representation of a good or bad damage. In Portrait of Ruin, if you used a weapon that was strong against a particular enemy (due to it's weakeness, damage type, etc) the target flashed red and if it was a bad weapon to use against that enemy, the target fleshed blue, giving to the player, a good notion of what to use on any particular situation.
Igavania games doesn't need to have combos, doesn't need to have multi-way moves. Damage types and resources (powers, weapons, usable itens) that fit particular situations are one of it's best things.

That reminds me. I heard a suggestion a long time ago to "make the stone sword useful" and it was a game mechanic based idea. "frozen" enemies be they stone / ice etc: act as a platform until thawed or killed. Many times this suggestion would be a fantastic idea just give it some thought where SotN or even HoD were concerned. Some of the dopey things you could do with invincibility or certain moves / weapons etc: were hilarious and I'd love to see more toolishness with weapons, spells and the like. I don't really have any more to put on the subject than that but its an interesting idea IMO.

How about magic Tomes, as well? I know that using magical Books/Tomes may make Miriam play a little too similarly to Charlotte from PoR, and I'm not entirely sure if this would work in Bloodstained...but I nonetheless think it's a cool weapon idea. Different "elemental" Book weapon ideas, below. (Basically titles for Books that IGA could've used in Portrait of Ruin anyway, if he wanted to include Books for every elemental attribute for Charlotte to wield.) " Alraune" (German novel which may have inspired the "Alura Une" enemy in the Castlevania games.) ^ Element = Plant (This was an actual elemental attribute in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, separate from Earth.) " Epic of Gilgamesh" (Adventures of the ancient Hero-King of Uruk and his wild sidekick, Enkidu.) ^ Element: Thunder/Lightning" The Odyssey" (The tale of Odysseus' decade-long and perilous journey back to his home.) ^ Element: Water" Romance of the Three Kingdoms" (The 2nd of the Four Great Classical Novels of China. A fictional twist on the events of the Three Kingdoms period of ancient Chinese history, following the fall of the Han Dynasty, and featuring the perspectives of many different famous generals of that time.) ^ Element: Earth" Journey to the West" (The 3rd of the Four Great Classical Novels of China. A Ming Dynasty novel, and popularly known in Europe under the title "Monkey". It is a tale of a monk who travels west to India under orders from Buddha alongside four companions, including the mischievous Monkey King himself: Sun Wukong.) ^ Element: Wind" Hamlet" (A classic Shakespearean tragedy adapted into booklet form, featuring the eponymous Prince Hamlet of Denmark who vows revenge against his treacherous uncle Claudius.) ^ Element: Poison" Macbeth" (Considered to be one of Shakespeare's darkest tragedy plays. The tale of a brave Scottish general who falls from grace. The general and his friend are told their destiny in a cryptic manner by three witches...and the former spirals to the depths of guilt, paranoia, and madness.) ^ Element: Curse (It could drastically slow an enemy's movement, prevent them from attacking, or drain their MP.) " Beowulf" (A Scandinavian epic of a hero who became King of the Geats. He defeats three great foes, but is mortally wounded in his battle with the third: a Dragon.) ^ Element: Fire*" Apprentice's Guide to Alchemy" (A gift to Miriam from Johannes. It is a helpful guide to basic alchemical recipes, but also doubles as a nifty magical weapon.) ^ Element: Non-Elemental OR " Crystal" (I haven't figured out how that could work as an elemental attribute. ) " Philosopher's Stone" (A compendium of notes and studies collected from various alchemists detailing their efforts toward this Magnum Opus, or "great work". If you read further, you'll find some of the information disturbing, involving dark rituals of human and animal sacrifice made in the attempt to create this coveted object. As you reach the end of the book, the "notes" become more like the ravings of immortality-obsessed madmen.) ^ Element: DarkAh...that's enough ideas for now.

XombieMike Hey now, that whole list is interesting. I didn't know someone submitted the " Green Dragon Crescent Blade" idea. Guan Yu's famous weapon, eh? (At least in fiction) This weapon could even have the Ice Attribute to increase its damage-potential against certain enemies. (From a myth that blood would freeze and coat the blade of this weapon during battles in snow)

From me, here's two more ideas for Sword weapons. Ulfberht: The engraved inscription on the blade reads " +VLFBERH+T". This sword is among the rarest of many Scandinavian 8th-11th century swords ever found, and shows no signs of rusting. This particular sword is the only one of its kind to be crafted using genuine Wootz steel ingots from India, known to many countries as the " finest steel in the world", and also used in Damascus swords. It is an excellent combination of sharp edges and a tapered tip, allowing for thrusting attacks just as effective as slashing. (Perhaps different directional inputs can execute different attack animations) - Non-Elemental (normally) ^ Special: Temporarily summon a Valkyrie to aid in a single powerful strike. Element: Light (I haven't thought of how exactly this attack would be executed...perhaps as a "Critical Art"?) Energy Blade: A near-weightless "sword" with a blue glow that, by all rights, shouldn't exist in the current times; an anachronism if ever there was one. The blade is made entirely of plasma, and is oddly floating separately from the hilt, which seems to have an embedded magi-crystal. It also has the curious ability to easily disintegrate some projectiles, and even deflect others. In the right hands, the Energy Blade has the potential to be one of the deadliest close-range weapons in history. Element(s): Lightning/ Fire/ Light (potential triple-element damage...probably making this a very late-game weapon; either found deep in the Castle, or crafted with rare materials) ^ Special 1: Unleash a deadly 4-hit combo, with each hit potentially stunning an enemy. Special 2: Hold down the Weapon-Attack button to Charge, and release to fire an energy wave from the weapon. Note: I think that the Energy Blade could simply look either like a "beam-saber" version of this sword: OR it could look similar to this:

I want to craft a lightsaber.
Actually, I'd love play around with a shotgun. This game takes place around the 1800s right? Shotguns were around at that time. Though pump actions were in the late 1800s...how about we call it a Demon Shotgun that Ash Williams would approve of?

I am not sure if Shotguns were around at the time, but there was the Blunderbuss which is somewhat a shotgun. They could add it in and it wouldn't feel out of place aesthetically. Bloodborne added it in with style: The only thing though is that Bloodborne was made with firearm use in mind, and this one is heavily magic/melee oriented (from what we know so far). They would have to figure out a way to make it so it doesn't feel too clunky/OP/cheap and a way to keep a steady pace while moving about the Castle. I know Castlevania has done it before with Henry in CV:LoD: (I personally would love to have the option to have firearms. It could add variety in gameplay to one of the other playable characters).

When he was lighting up that skeleton, I found myself crying from laughter. Rat-tat-tat-tat late at night with my gat! ~
