Recorded myself farming shards and money. Now you know what endgame farming looks like. Edit: Speaking of getting stuck, there are only two moments in the game where I was truly stuck. As in I explored the map and had no clue what I needed to do. The first was Draining the bloody well near the beginning of the castle with the ability you gain from Bloodless. The second was Figuring out that you could move Iron Maidens with the Craftwork ability. You know, the giant hand you use for that one moment in early game to progress and promptly forget about afterwards? Overall the game is quite easy to figure out if you explore the map fully. I always try to fill in the squares on the map before progressing if possible.

Quick question for those who have all the boss coins (I have a feeling there are a few of you out there already) do you get anything special (other than bragging rights ) for having all of them? I believe it's just bragging rights. I'm not sure if they are needed for 100% item collection though. Also you can only have 1 of each medal, doing the fights no hit again in new game+ won't earn you more medals.

seiya yulia11 C'mon, you guys are spoiling my essay for people Heh, all I can say there is what I have to tell people all the time, I use Seiya not because of Saint Seiya, but because my Japanese friends, while I was in Japan, liked the name for me. Due to living there as a small kid as well as during my
As far as points I got stuck at.... I didnt get confused by any of the same things you did. For me there were two that stumped me for a long time.
First was when going into the first lab, I just started getting me butt handed to me. By the time I finished the Inferno Caves, it was just really frustrating. This was even though I was farming a lot as I went. Then I found out my mistake; I was forgetting to make and eat food at least once. I knew it during the beta, but forgot.
Second spot was the portal to the dark world. I ran right through that room and didnt think to cut the moon and just could not figure out where I was supposed to meet the boss again. We all have our moments. Now I have my 100% map and am working to find the last trinket I am missing. I am literally going through all areas and checking EVERY wall. I am finding out so many HP and MP boosters I never new about as well.

Ah ok, I had a feeling but I just wanted to make sure since they are showing up under the "Key Item" list in the inventory.

I asked a question about the medals earlier, but I've since gotten all the medals myself, so I guess I'll say everything I've found about the boss medals. When you defeat a boss without taking damage, Miriam says "congratulations", and you win a medal. If you already have the medal, she will still say "congratulations", but you won't earn a second medal. Despite the Key Item list being able to display quantity, I don't believe it is possible for any Key Item to have a quantity more than 1.
The boss medals don't do anything. The boss medals don't appear as empty spaces in the item archive, and are not required for the item archive to say 100%. However, when collected, they are indeed added to the archive.
Incidentally, the Swordwhip and the Insatiable shard are also not required for 100%, HOWEVER, both the IGA enemy and the "kill IGA" quest ARE required for the Demon archive and Quest list to be considered 100% completed respectively. A bit inconsistent if you ask me.
The 8-bit Overlord, Dominique and Bael medals are non-missable, since their fights can be refought indefinitely.
Abyssal Guardian's medal can only be obtained from the boss version found in Livre Ex Machina, and cannot be obtained from the Abyssal Guardians found later.
The extra bosses O.D and IGA both DO have medals, yet the other three "bonus boss" encounters - Revenant, Master Carpenter, and Millionaire's Bane - do NOT have medals.
In case you were wondering, the second Zangetsu medal is called "True Zangetsu Medal"
I think that's everything about the medals. They really are just for bragging rights. Even with an overleveled, overpowered endgame Miriam, the IGA medal was really tricky to get, and it might very well be the hardest item in the game to acquire.

I think this is the highest damage possible... Setup: Full screen nuke with infinite MP EDIT: No no, wait! THIS is the highest damage possible. Required shards Also taking advantage of the enemy's elemental weakness to bring up the damage. And this... is to go even further beyond!

I was also very disappointed with the boss rush. I was hoping to earn some crazy Boss Rush exclusive items as seen in Aria / Dawn, but all we get are the pixel coins, and only once.
I honestly don't understand why the bosses are separated into two courses. Despite being brought down to level 30, it was still easy to cakewalk over everything with lategame gear. I hit Vepar twice and win straight away.
Also, how the heck do you have a boss rush without including Bloodless? She's by far one of the most recognisable, popular and interesting bosses in the game. It's just baffling she wasn't included.
This is by far the worst boss rush mode in any IGAvania.
At least we still have the excellent boss rush included in Bloodstained Curse of the Moon.

Very odd that the boss rush doesn't include all of the bosses. I was wondering how they'd do IGA, but it seems they skip most of the latter chunk of bosses entirely anyway.

Seems to be a bug with the forum. Let me post it again. I maxed out Bloodbringer's level. Here are the results. Max level for familiars is 99. Bloodbringer is the second strongest one handed sword behind Blue Rose. But if an enemy is resistant to ice then Bloodbringer is the strongest. I'm not including weapons gotten with 8-bit coins.

Also, since I have been playing the game almost 50 hours already I will do some gushing as well. GAMEPLAY: Top notch quality stuff here. Easily on par with SotN in my opinion. On PS4 though I have noticed some performance issues. Firstly, frame rate slow down when I use certain directional shards (most noticeably with the shard that sends that spinning circular blade on a chain). Secondly, several times I have noticed where I enter a room and hit an enemy, the game just freezes. It's never for very long and the game picks right back up in less than a minute but it has happened often enough to be VERY noticeable. Another, albeit small and nitpicky, issue that I have is that the various techniques you can find and use feel very difficult to execute with my controller. Maybe my time away from fighting games has affected my ability to pull these off, but, I do not remember them EVER being this hard to do. Maybe it's something about the whole technique system I do not understand since I have not messed with it much at all but I figured I should mention it. STORY: I thought it was ok. Very fitting directions taken considering it's a spiritual successor to Castlevania. Kinda hoping future entries (if this becomes a series) pits you against different Kings of Hell from the Ars Goetia. We kicked Bael's ass, now I want to kick Paimon's ass! (Still hoping Lucifer becomes involved at some point but that's only because I enjoy stories involving the character so my bias with that is obvious)
I do agree while certain characters were DEFINITELY handed the idiot ball, what was there is done competently enough to where I can forgive/overlook it. WEAPONS AND COLLECTIBLES: I was hoping these would be good and holy crap they did not disappoint. While I am not at 100% just yet in every category (The previously mentioned Techniques I am not even close to doing all of them though I think I read all the books that can be found.) what I HAVE found has been amazing. I ended up discovering some of the abilities they had out of pure fluke. Gebel's glasses. In hindsight I should not be surprised at all considering you get them from collecting all the shards but that's my own fault for only thinking they were a cosmetic item. Overall it is a damn fine game and easily one of the best games I have played so far this year. While it is not perfect and definitely has a few rough spots here and there, I see myself playing this on my PS4 and multiple other systems for a long time.

Currently on the final boss, who is currently repeatedly smearing the walls with my blood.
With over 30 hours under my belt Im at 95.40% map completion But only 34% weapon completion and 66% shard completion with less than half the quests done and not even 10% of the techniques used.
I will say I want to get more shards because my strategy the whole game on every late game boss was mostly "Spam Inferno breath to rack up hundreds of DPS until I win" and my best weapon for now is by FAR the Durandal.
As far as other aspects of the game:
This is a top notch IGA game, and while I want more time with it, I can safely put it above many of his previous games too. Weapon and power variety is astounding with my only niggle being the lack of a weapon upgrade system because I REALLY like the Flying Edge but the damage is so poor at this point...alas. Im really happy with the Familiar system too.
I also adore the fact there are "Builds" in this game, I REALLY want to get a better gun than the Culverin and a better whip than the Beast Tamer. Guns in particular have become a favorite of mine with the amazing variety in ammunition, so different from any other Iga-Castlvania.
Boss fights are great all around, with the "human" fights like Zangetsu and other spoiler-ey ones being the highlights. The fact one of the bosses is a dead ringer for, of all things, Shin Godzilla really made me smile, if also wonder why its here. The Jojo memes make more sense since IGA loves Jojo and has been referencing it for decades at this point. As much as I cant say the final boss has a viable reason for being who it is, I CAN say the fight is a friggin blast.
The story....well the story was never a big highlight in these games but I do feel I agree it feels a bit nonsensical the direction certain characters take. But with one character I really like is Miriam herself. She looks and evokes Shanoa s much, and early descriptions of her describe her as aloof which TERRIFIED me we'd get another stoic, cardboard character with a great design but Miriam has a lot of charm and playfullness to her that eliminated those fears. Zangetsu is also great and I cant wait to unlock him.
Im also extremely pleased with the wide array of locales in the game now that ive seen it all, from the ship to the castle to the oriental research lap and beyond, Im thrilled to say my fear of a big stale castle with no other environmental variation was tossed aside brilliantly.
For now, Im giving up on the final boss, Im only level 41 and phase 2 is just eating me alive, I want to collect more shards and weapons. And I need money, christ Ive never had more than like 20K on me at a time. I cant buy all the fun ammo for the guns I want to use :3

35 hours. Got all blue shards, green shards, and yellow shards to grade/rank 9, that includes Resist Curse. Crafted every 8-bit weapon including their 16-bit and 32-bit variant, meaning I had to farm the Eight Bit Overlord until I had enough 8-Bit Nightmares. I have at least one of every single weapon, armor, accessory, bullet, healing items, food, etc on Miriam for use. I bought 99 Steak, Exquisite Steak, Meat Hot Pot, and Fish Hot Pot for healing purposes as they give the most HP. I have over 2 million gold left to spend on whatever. I'd say this is good enough for 101% completion. Only things left are Boss Medals in NG+, and to get all red shards and purple shards to grade/rank 9. But I'd rather not do the latter.

I'm at the final boss and while I've had a good time with the game I think that for the first time in an IGAvania I'll just complete the map, maybe the shards, but not all the items. Fun game, phenomenal OST, great boss fights (on Normal they're kinda easy except for the end, but I wanted to get the Medal on any boss before proceeding with the story so doing them no-hit really made me appreciate the patterns) and nice level design overall, but on the whole the game struck me as unpolished. The aesthetics, I couldn't get used to. I just don't like how the game looks. Animations ranged from adequate to terrible. I had a constant feeling over "quantity over quality", bad pacing for getting weapons because the crafting system is so busy and full of tons of materials to get with a pace-breaking grind if you want to get a particular weapon at the time when it's useful. Even the Shard upgrade system is nice but so grindy if you want to max everything out or even just a specific shard really if you aren't in the endgame already. Sub quests were absolutely terrible IMO. So few in types, copypasted, terribly lazy. Easily one of the worst parts of the game for me. The final major thing I didn't like is how closely Bloodstained sticks to SotN (even in the terrible balancing). I know it's what everyone wanted but not me. IGA's career is not only SotN and constantly referencing it and notting at certain aspect of SotN makes me feel like the man himself forgot that. I guess I just have to accept that my vision no longer coincides with IGA or the community's. The game turned out fine, but it's easily my least favorite IGAvania (and I also liked the PS2 'vanias better, but they're too different to compare). I'll probably buy and play eventual sequels even if they're not probably going to push forward the formula bur rather tread the familiar ground. I'm happy for all the folks that are enjoying the game in every aspect and calling it a masterpiece. Wish I were able to as well, especially considering how much I spent on the whole thing. EBBenjy and/or lai: for the final bosses' medals do you have to no-hit both Dominique and Bael? Or you can flawless Dominic, warp away with the waystone and then flawless Bael separately?

freddythemonkeyYou can do them separately.
But I'm fairly certain you're not allowed to use a waystone during a boss fight. If you flawless Dominique but get hit by Bael, you can just defeat him normally, let the game autosave at the ending, and you will have the Dominique medal and can go for Bael's without having to worry about flawlessing Dominique again. These two fights can be infinitely repeated.

There are upgrades for a lot of weapons. Unfortunately, I didnt see them until I got the Ultimate Weapon Recipe book.
Flying Edge becomes stronger on damage and lets you to have 2 blades out at once. It is the Oracle Blade.

great boss fights (on Normal they're kinda easy except for the end, but I wanted to get the Medal on any boss before proceeding with the story so doing them no-hit really made me appreciate the patterns) The IGA boss fight ended up being my favorite in the game, because of how he alternates between attacks randomly, but always has a "tell" of what's coming so you have an opportunity to react. It's just classic 2D game design, and very fitting that IGA's the boss who represents it best.
