Gotta say, a lot of this "value" argument just strikes me as the same problem some people have with student debt forgiveness...if I had to pay it off, so should you!
EDIT: Yay, nigh-contextless page-topper!

So it being added later diminishes the relevant value it has, as you're considering value only from the origin time of purchase? I can follow that better than the Schrodinger's CotM value I was looking at before.
One important thing that I don't think is pointed out often enough, too, is that the KS backing and window for purchase of the backer content etc was not open for just a 2-month exclusive window, but rather 3 full years. As it was, someone who jumped on in May 2015, the day the page launched, got the same deal as someone who waited to just before CotM came out May 2018. Their only loss would have been participation in backer exclusive activities before then. It kind of flies in the face of "I was here the earliest back then and deserve the most" at default of how it's always been.

From the perspective of someone who did, literally, back on the last day the slacker backer was available: the *only* reason I backed at $60 was to guarantee the exclusive backer content. The rest was gravy; now that I’ve been reminded, I must have picked digital because the bonus goodies were more appealing than a box to me. So there is that.
Still...the bonus goodies weren’t why I backed at $60. I actually hemmed and hawed about it for several days, because I am *anything* but wealthy and $32 extra pinches my wallet. Then I decided, I really do want to guarantee I get to play the bonus backer content and spent the extra $32.
Which, as it comes to it...hindsight is everything, huh? I should have just backed at $28 and bought the DLC and come out way ahead on what I really wanted out of it. What’s done is done, and I don’t regret spending the money, but it stings, and it has certainly negatively impacted my decision to preorder a copy for my Switch. So I guess 505 and I are even—they stung me, and in return, I’ll save myself $50 today.
I do want to be clear that I’m very happy it’s going to be released, and I’m not regretting anything. I got to contribute to the beta backer demo and had a teeny tiny part to play in Bloodstained looking as good as it does now. So that’s great. Still stings though!

Some random backer's thoughts on this matter.
Where to begin...... I have to admit my initial response was basically, wtf is this bullshit. I was promised exclusive content and I'm being cheated out of my investment. But the more I thought about it, the more wrong this sentiment seemed to me. I backed this game because I wanted to see a new Metroidvania, one of my favorite genres, and made by Igarashi himself no less! The idea that more people will get to enjoy all of it actually makes me happier. And I do get to keep one of the backer exclusive rewards, my name in the credits! That's a lot more special to me than keeping other people from having a weapon in the game. However, I am willing to admit that 60 dollar backers probably should feel a little cheated in all of this. It's not up to me, but if I were 505 I'd either offer a small refund to the 60 backers so they get the same price as everyone else, or a promise that all future dlc will be free to them (and all who backed in a higher tier than 60) when everyone else has to pay, that would be a fair shake. Oh and of course a guaranteed promise of future dlc beyond the kickstarter goals, because who wouldn't want that. As for the steel cases, I don't really have an opinion on those since they had nothing to do with the kickstarter in the first place. Just my 2 cents on the matter, feel free to agree, disagree, spit on my father's grave, whatever (please don't actually do that last one).

hahaha that's pretty much me too dugfin. Hey Starsmith, you're digital $60 I take it? You do get the soundtrack and the retro booklet digitally as well. If you're a PS4 guy, the dynamic theme on that system too. But yeah, super late $60 is probably the worst spot to sit in, since you didn't have the chance to do the alpha and beta etc either. Still, it's very appreciated that you did this. Our combined efforts are catapulting this game to quite apparent wide success. I'd rather it not have remained a little KS game. I'm looking forward to taking selfies with the cases in a Walmart or something lol

I'm not expecting anything extra as a $60 backer, certainly not a refund, and I don't think anything is deserved except for maybe an official acknowledgement on the issue in a future update or something. Something about the situation with $60 backers, who rightfully feel they over-pledged based on promises of exclusive content which for one reason or another needed to be changed, wasn't worded/handled appropriately. I'm not going to say we need an apology, as that might be too far.
Again, not expecting anything or think we deserve anything further than what we pledged for; that was never in question. I'm also fine that everyone gets to enjoy all the content, as it's definitely a win for everyone that wants to play the game.

Hilarious to read through all the comments about "get over it, who cares, you still get content, nothing is being taken away from you, life goes on, 'nontroversy' lol", etc. Missing the main point entirely. I don't speak for all the people upset about the DLC, and I do agree some people commenting on Kickstarter yesterday were going a bit overboard. What I do know is people were told they could back as little as $28 for a digital copy of the game, or $60 and up for bonus incentives including only way to make sure you were getting in-game content that was not going to be available elsewhere. A minimum $32 increase in backing amount was required for what we were told would exclusive in-game content. Here we are 4 years later and find out that the content that was part of incentives many of us put up at least an extra $32 for, would be available day one for as little as $10 more. If you don't see an issue with people (particularly the $60 backers) feeling a little ripped off and calling out 505 on it, not much is going to change your mind so no need to try. And those saying Curse of the Moon is a $10 game that backers paid for as part of their pledge, no, it wasn't. It was a free unlock reward for any backer at $28 tier and above. It cost $10 for anyone who didn't back at all. Not the same thing. As I touched on earlier, you can be sure that most, if not all of these people, aren't actually missing the point. They're just being disingenuous because they want to defend the company at all costs, and there really is no defense for this false advertising. So they decide to resort to these strawman arguments and personal insults to make it seem right, which never works. If anything, it's further proof that the situation is wrong. It happened to the Mac/Linux backers. It happened when backers complained that Curse of the Moon codes were nowhere in sight while people that didn't back the project were playing. The community in general is just very biased. Which basically guarantees that 505 Games/ArtPlay will continue to make similar decisions in the future.

purifyweirdshard Yeah, digital $60. Which I thank you for reminding me about the extra goodies! Like I said, I don’t regret it—I am positive I will enjoy the game and I am very glad it’s looking to be a solid release. I’ve been waiting *aaaaaages* for a game like this and glad to have helped make it happen. Can’t help feeling a bit jerked around though, and wanted 505 to know!

Here's my reaction to all this as a backer, for what it's worth. -I'm a $60 Physical Copy contributor. I think I'm getting a game, the sword-whip/IGA boss DLC, and the slipcase. But I noticed something about a digital soundtrack and special booklet for the Digital $60 tier. Is that included in the Physical as well? -Not too surprised that the game won't be launching with all features and will go the Shovel Knight route. There's a part of me that is a bit disappointed, though, because that means the physical media will be incomplete and thus system or card memory space will have to be taken up with what could be significant downloads, which as I understand it, isn't ideal on Switch. -Now that Classic Mode has been delayed, and in light of what Curse of the Moon accomplished, I have high hopes for this mode. It's really the only bonus mode I have significant interest in. Perhaps WayForward will handle it, since they have been wanting to work on a Castlevania game over the years. If it could be a mini-version of Super Castlevania IV in terms of the way the game plays with gap-swinging and such, the way that Curse of the Moon was a Dracula's Curse riff, that would be incredible. -I'm all right with people having access to the backer DLC for a fee overall, but I think there maybe should have been an exclusivity window attached--a month at minimum, but three to six months being more fair. This is especially since there will be DLC in the future anyway, so it's not like non-backers will be dumping the game and won't be keyed into the idea of add-ons. -As was noted, Curse of the Moon being "free" at the $60 point--and I'll add, having access to demos along the way--makes things somewhat even. But it would have been nice if, like Playtonic's Yooka-Laylee, all contributors at lower tiers were given a special thanks line in the credits. Especially since so many of us here provided so much detailed feedback. That might lessen the sting about some backers feeling that their early involvement wasn't as valued as general consumers. (I always felt, given other Kickstarters' policies, that buying into the credits at $100+ was a little eyebrow-raising, though I suppose it was quite an incentive to pay extra.) I have to admit, that on some small level, the more I think about it, I do feel like the incentives for backing at the $60 tier were a tiny bit inflated at this point, given the reality of the retail version. But at the end of the day, it was about getting the game made, and getting to play it, so it's not the end of the world by any means. (I was on the other end with Mighty No.9. I wasn't a backer, but bought the retail, which came with most of the DLC packed in, and I was happy to have it, because the Ray DLC really rounded out that game experience a lot. Still, it is worth noting that there were two minor DLC pieces that backers kept for themselves, which were MegaXel Beck and Golden Beck, and that's sort of neat. As a latecomer general consumer who actually enjoyed Mighty No.9 a good deal, even if somewhat sad I was locked out of a few things, I felt like the backers earned those tip-of-the-cap extras. That being said, the more significant Ray DLC, if I hadn't been able to play that, right or wrong, I would have felt irked as a general consumer.)
-It's not clear to me how big the sword-whip DLC will be. I mean, I always assumed it was a weapon and an extra room or two with a boss fight. But at $9.99, that sounds like another area of the castle to me. -I'm curious what the general backer-exclusive slipcase will be like at this point. If it'll have art, or just be more of a plain iconography sort of thing. -I'm wondering if any of the other promised musical contributors, like Jake Kaufman, are in the main game, or if they were for Curse of the Moon. -The new trailer is pretty bland, but that's fine, because I don't want to know anything else important about this game. I'm already a backer and I'm already sold.
-I do wonder how working on the extra DLC will affect the finances for this game and its revenue toward getting to the point where thoughts of a potential sequel could come about.
-The irony of all this for me is, as a Wii U (now Switch) backer, I'm going to be waiting a while to play this game. It coudn't be helped, but that's the consequence of losing the console support I backed on. My PC's not good enough to run it, PS5's too close to seriously invest in PS4 now (especially since it will reportedly be backwards compatible), and too many reports point to one or more Nintendo Switch hardware revisions happening by year's end (perhaps as soon as this summer) or early 2020, so I'm holding off on getting that console until its retail situation becomes clearer.

I see. No need to call him out/be needlessly combative about this though, especially if he has or will cool off or elaborate himself. I take instances of misconduct seriously here though and name-calling will need to be dealt with, so just generally for everyone in the future, please use "report post" if that happens. Petty, selfish and whatnot is not ideal language to use, but would not be an infarction to me. The mods would still review as necessary however.

I actually wanted to be a backer, but didn't have the money to give. If I was able to be a backer I wouldn't even had the issue with the dlc being available to all day one for a price. I get it that some backers are disappointed in the decision regarding the dlc, but I know I wouldn't have.
I'm just happy that the game is finally coming out and got my preorder in at my local gamestop, June 18th can't come soon enough.

"Petty, selfish, and self centered" are absolutely baseless insults directed towards anyone that isn't happy with the situation. I knew they were going to overlook it, but it's absolutely an insult, especially when you consider it's being said towards people that value honesty.

I think Pure Miriam isn't insulting anyone of this forums, he's just reacting to the absurd Kickstarter, Reddit, Steam Community and ResetEra comments. Pure Miriam is a cool guy that has done lots of cool and good stuff for this forum.
Negative feedback can be beneficial (The Bloodstained Release Release Date Announcement is proof of that) until certain point, but there's a limit for everything, and the Kickstarter comment section are basically on fire at this moment, and in my opinion this kinds of comments are just ridiculous and plainly bizarre (most of them, not all), and yes, I know the difference between negative and toxic comments.

I assumed you were reading and considering things, from your stated overall harsh judgment of the situation as a whole. I think that was a reasonable mistake for me to make, I by default think that's what we all do. I believe what you're conveying here is that you want to say what you want to say and defer engagement to the contrary as useless/disingenuous. That's not how I would want to use a forum and get a productive experience out of it, but that's your decision. Selfish/petty aren't quite insults and don't count as infarctions, but are not language I would like to see used. That was the statement I gave earlier and it'd be true of anyone using those. I don't solely run this place though, so it would be a review from the mods for them to decide if someone had reported it. edit: I see that when Pure Miriam said this, it was not directed at you, but part of his summary of thoughts on the subject, and he denied an argument about it when you quoted him. I was thinking all this time he said this to you directly. That must be why I thought I had missed it, because I'm pretty sure I read that bit of the post before. If you're done with me, that's fine, and we can drop this. You've been around a while and I don't want to harm a fan's experience with the game.
