Fantastic update! The work this team is putting forward in the graphics department and elsewhere continues to impress. You know you've done your job right when the only complaints you receive are about potential translation errors and fan concerns about mislabeled footage causing a potential CYA situation. WOW, WOW, Hold your horses. what i said its NOT a complaint. it is an OBSERVATION! (the same could be said for Dareka's Comment) it doesn't affect me or the gameplay or my hype for this game in any way, in fact, what i mentioned has nothing to do with the development and the game's visual improvement. I don't see how this qualifies as a complaint. and the people i was talking about were actually 2 groups of peeps: the Group A : the important backers that whine about something silly every update because they think the $60 USD they donated are enough to make a game and think they have the right to complain whenever this doesn't look like the game of their dreams. and our lovely group B : Our religious group of haters, followers of the company that makes pachinko games or perphaps simply hardcore 2d pixel art fanboys that refuse to accept change and will use everything in their power to try to make this game look bad.theres also Group C, but those have the right to be mad so i don't want to talk about those. sheez I honestly did not intend to portray you or Dareka in a negative light when I used the word "complaint" in my post.
Even looked "the word" up online just now to double check I didn't use any offensive language by mistake.
Here's the definition my online search came back with: "a statement that a situation is unsatisfactory or unacceptable."
So the word covers a range from unsatisfactory to unacceptable. Guess that leaves it up to the individual up for interpretation...
From your response it makes it sound like I launched an attack on you and Dareka which isn't the case.
I can see how you may have taken what I've said the wrong way though. Again no offense intended.
Guess the negativity on the Kickstarter board and other places has even given the word complaint an overly negative stigma...

Good updates, I liked the comparisons of the progress and I hope we see more of that. I would like to state my concern about Switch port, I am worried it will be visually noticeably inferior to the other consoles and PC versions. I hope I am wrong and that the port does not suffer too much. I am convinced that Switch version has the biggest potential to sell copies of Bloodstained, so I think it is important to put as much work as needed for this port. We all want Bloodstained to be successful and become on-going series of games. (I think that the video from Nintendo Direct and trailer were not Switch version, as someone pointed out, but I am not sure)

crocodile AztecThey explained a bit how it works and Mana also commented on Discord (i didn't saw, but others do and also commented). As far as i understood, Invert works like this: When you use Invert, Miriam's gravity is affected and thus, the Castle is inverted (in reality, Miriam is inverted, but let's not go into that). The castle STAYS inverted until you use it again to return it to normal. Invert doesn't work properly on open areas. Areas that doesn't have a celling, Miriam "falls", hit the "void" and Invert cancels itself. That's exactly what happened on the video of this update. Mana (IGA's translator, helper, artist, etc) said that she personally tried Invert on open regions and the game crashed because they was still testing and forgot to consider that situation. So, it was suggested for Invert to do exactly what we saw there: Spin and spin again, to add a gimmick feature to it (like the video, where you actually need to use Invert limitation to reach that chest). It was also stated that Invert can be used anywhere in the castle. It doesn't work on the village or Galleon Minerva, because it is a Shard tied to the castle itself, for some reason.

"Hair-movement"? That's a joke-answer. It's a nice touch but not important. I was pretty sure Miriam was covered with shards and those comes in different sizes, even particles should be able to spread, and even in hair. Making it hardened.
Anyway, the most important thing in this game, what I think, is to have a fun time playing it. A huge bonus if there is replay value.
I am sorry I don't see the hype like most of you guys do with things like hair-movement being that important. I just don't get it.
Overall a nice update. More hyped about the revisited comparison between footage, but I know textures and lights are things you fix later on. Been saying it for some time now, finally those impatient people can see a bit of his vision more clearly this time.
Sorry for rant, I just value the project differently and it makes me feel "out of place" among you guys.

Really nice update and a nice read! Also impressed with the look of the "white marble church" where Miriam demonstrates for us the Reflector Ray directional shard ability. And Bloodless is gorgeous "Did we do a good job" you ask? Yes, yes you have!

The only improvement (a nitpick really) I have to offer for the footage provided with the Bloodless boss fight would be to add some lighting effects for the stained glass in the background. Having some colorful lighting beaming through the glass and reflecting on the floor in the background would be a beautiful addition. Doesn't have to be as elaborate as the following, but a good reference none the less (from Nier Automata): Good point! It's even been in the 3D-Castlevanias with their church-like environments. I think it'd be fairly easy to include.

Nothing is “easy” in videogame development. Sometimes a simple change can produce weeks of headaches because one line of code destroyed your game and now there are 50 new bugs and nothing works.

Them castle visuals compared to what we all spoke about back when the 'beta demo' happened, though........unf, good stuff. Also, Bloodless is waifu, but I gots to see muh Alura in game.

Haven't been here for a while, but I have to chime in just for that Invert footage. Talking about excitement, ahh.
I mean, look at that sky background. IT'S BEAUTIFUL. Really, the graphics improvement in a whole is surely night and day.
Miriam doesn't have shadows but it's no big deal, most likely some shaders are turned off for debugging / testing.

Aztec Depends on the method of adding the light shafts to be honest. If this screws with your code base, you're doing it wrong. If you do it with fake volumetric lighting like in the PS2 examples, it's as simple as adding a mesh to each window. There are also real volumetric lighting solutions in UE4 that just come with the engine and can be tweaked. Alternatively a simple particle system could be made to simulate the light shafts. This would also be fairly easy for experienced devs. Usually I'd agree that things can be deceptively hard in gamedev but in this case I stand by what I said.

I haven't personally used Invert yet, so I can't say exactly how it works. Mana did jump onto Discord on February 14th and had this to say about it:
Question from Goobsausage: Mana, what was your reaction when you learned Miriam cool invert the Bloodstained castle at any time?
Question from Kylestien: Can you invert at any time and does it affect more then gravity? I was just thinking if it made changes in places like inverted castle, and the castle without inversion was still the biggest castle, we got double biggest castle AND whatever else surprise iga has in store.

I'm really impressed with this update especially the new look of Bloodless' face: she's both enticing but incredibly disturbing at the same time. I also couldn't help but notice how great the sky look during the "invert" video. The team have made great strides and I can't wait to see the final product. Well done!
