Oh I know you mentioned that, I was more speaking in the hypothetical case that it became so - an extension of gunlord's thoughts, "it'd" be as in "it would be" a huge pain.
I really want the forum to be safe and thrive though, too, so how and whatever we can do to make sure it doesn't get into any trouble would be the best way to go, for sure.

We still can say "Castlevania", right? They even mentioned it at the Kickstarter page, I don't know why you are avoiding the name, XombieMike lol. Anyway, while it's better to avoid using Castlevania things in official pages/icons/etc, users using them probably won't be a problem. Like how so? As a forum user for 10 years, it's so common to see signatures and avatars with copyrighted images and icons, it's not even something possible to control. I used to frequent a forum of a MMO game that prohibited everyone to post names of other MMOs. It was so ridiculous because nobody could even suggest something from other games or hold normal discussions. At the end of the day, we really shouldn't care that much. |

I don’t care at all. I agree with what everyone is saying. I'm still going to separate Castlevania from the forums smileys though. Right now, I think Ben has reservations about calling this forum official even though ArtPlay pays forums.net for it, Mana admins it, Fangamer made art for it and is staff here, and we plan on migrating all accounts to a more permanent place sometime in the future.
I want 0% fear of liability for Ben and IGA. I know it's silly, but I just want Ben to be proud, comfortable and safe calling this place official. If that means no mods using CV images and no CV smileys, no problem.

For instance, replace the candles with lamps from the galleon, the ghost with the ectoplasm things, etc.?  |

That ghost thing "Amy" will be the next smiley and replace the existing ghost.
I do not fully understand Ben's hesitation, but I'm pretty sure it's only due to legal stuff. It might be that he's waiting to promote whatever we evolve into when the website finally happenes.

Ben and Mike have the final say, of course, but I'm very certain this won't be the case. At the most we may have to add restrictions on what avatars are allowed (though even that's not likely beyond what we already have), but it's very doubtful we'll take away avatars entirely. At every other official forum I've been to they're pretty lenient with user avatars. I myself use this Layzner icon at the Battletech and Muv-Luv official forums (the other Kickstarters I've mentioned backing). I don't think the users should have any problems, it's just "official" matters like what the staff has and what smileys are used on here.  |
