Yeah man, I got to the Shovel Knight party late, and I only played through the main SK campaign and loved it. That was definitely a full, complete game, and I'm probably skipping on Plague/Specter and everything else. I know it's great, but I was satisfied. You should really go play the other Shovel Knight campaigns. They are probably better than whatever videogames you are currently playing As a quick aside, where/what is your avatar from? I know you changed it a few days/weeks ago but I never got around to asking.

I'll be very happy if it's staggered so we can get the main game sooner. I waited this many years to play an igavania game. I don't care about extras, it's nice that we have them....it's nice that we got all these extra stretch goals but I will never lose sight of what I wanted in the first place.

I know you changed it a few days/weeks ago but I never got around to asking. Croc, man it takes Herculean effort for me to play -anything- at all these days, and there are so many huge things on my backlog it's ridiculous. I think I may go back to the extra Shovel Knight content eventually, but playing anything at all for 30 mins-1 hour in one day is around the most I'm doing these days. I haven't even gotten to Dark Souls 3's DLC yet and everyone knows I love those games. I actually even have a rule this year against buying any new games lol, so I'm waiting until 2018 to buy Nier, Nioh and whatever other things until I clear out a lot of what I've already got. I was also playing SK under my friend's Steam library so it wasn't mine, and well...didn't feel 100% right to dig into all the extra content I hadn't myself paid for, too. Pretty neat how Steam allows you to share content like that, though.
I just started really getting into Gunvolt and I've had that game for over 2 years I think? lol. I like it
My avatar is Mana's art of Kashell from Valkyrie Profile. It's on her pixiv account. I linked to and gushed about it and the Loki one a while back in the thread about her art

It works for me either way. I can wait a few years more to get everything in one perfect package. But I know they want bugtesting to be made, and that will be the main game or parts of it.
So if they want to stagger, I am fine with it, as long as the main game and adventure is intact. I am on PC, so this is the reason why I do not mind either way, with patches every week on those games I already play, it works fine when done right.

If for whatever reason they feel they need to release an unfinished product why not go the route Dead Cells did? they already need to give out beta access, why not just update that beta access and allow people to purchase that beta access on steam to make what little money they need to complete the game (assuming going over budget is the only reason they would need to release early.) only reason I want the full game on release is because of getting a physical cartridge, I for one wouldn't mind playing the same steam beta as everyone else until that physical cartridge was ready to have the full game.

We will have the "full game" at launch. MAYBE the extra modes will come later. Also, the physical copy of the game is still subjected to updates, isn't it? I really can't see why it seems so troublesome for some people. It's not like if you backed the physical version you only get whatever's ready at that moment (which would be the full, main game) and absolutely nothing else. I absolutely prefer to get the main game and key features as soon as they're done. I'd have absolutely accessory modes like boss revenge and roguelike mode later rather than having to wait additional months to play what I backed, that is to say the main IGAvania experience.

I think that, personally, that things should be seperated into features and modes for this. Features, I'd expect to be in the main game at launch, such as local coop (maybe the online) or the other playable characters, or the difficulty levels. Modes would be stuff like Speedrun Mode or Boss Monster Mode. Classic mode would be in modes, but retro level would be in base ETC.
I'm not entirely sure how they'd be seperated in these catabgories TBH. How do YOU see all the stuff?

Also, having bought a physical copy that won't contain everything kinda sucks, I know people don't care since they got it digital or they're so hyped they'd play even the main game mode in episodes, tell tale style, good for them. I Had a lot of expectations and after some months without good updates (yes, january - may) now I'm even reading I won't get everything in a go. When we backed the game, release date was estimated March 2017, now we know we won't get everything together, when are we getting a good news? almost 2 years of development, and they knew day 1 that the game got funded. I'd be a liar if I'd say I'm not a bit disappointed, but that might be just me.

Guest posts stay under quarantine until they're approved, since there are spam bots a lot of the time, haha. But yeah, I understand your feelings, though I wouldn't lose too much hope yet. If you got a physical copy, you should be able to download the staggered content as updates when it releases. That's what they did with Shovel Knight, IIRC, so it seems likely a similar approach would be used for Bloodstained's staggered content. And it worked well enough for Shovel Knight

Of course, that is IF they used the staggered approach, which still is not confirmed. In quite recent articles (E3), IGA still was "considering" it. I think it's pretty likely and a fine idea, but we don't know yet.

Why does anyone think that "episodes" a là Telltale is even remotely a possibility when talking about "staggered content"? What news have been so bad to make someone think that Iga is even THINKING of something as stupid as splitting the main game in episodes? I'm genuinely baffled at the fuss that's rising from that interview, especially since the community here has been talking about "staggered content" possibilities since FOREVER. Just look. This image was in the first post of this discussion. No episodes AT ALL.

An Igavania game couldn't work in an episodic format anyway. You need access to the whole of the game world to play through them.
As far as the release date and all that, yeah, March 2017 was an idea for releasing the 500k project, but not the 5.5m project we ended up with. That's over 1000% worth of more stuff having to be made, on top of challenges they encountered after the KS heh. I honestly didn't want the game that fast anyway, even though it would have been neat to get it on SotN's 20th.

Personally I'd rather wait for it all to be finished and released at once. If it means another delay, so be it.

Episode 2: Shaft has returned! Alucard frees Richter and must storm the inverted castle to put an end to Dracula once and for all! Episode 3: Flashback! Richter Belmont storms the castle! How did he become the lord of the castle? Episode 4: Flashback! Maria investigates the disappearance of Richter. What secrets does she unravel on the way? I dunno, seems easy enough to squeeze out episodes for a Metrodivania/Igavania. Just make each episode the campaign for a character (with a full story)

I agree with purifyweirdshard . Isn't the full big map that you can explore anytime you want (well some area you cannot access at first) is the most iconic feature in any IGAvania/metroidvania? I don't think an episodic approach would fit into that. On the stagger content release topic I'm with gunlord500 , I'm totally OK with releasing the full main game first in the box (like version 1.0) then release patches to add other modes in later (ver 1.5, 2.0 etc etc...). Sadly we don't have big boxes PC games like 90s. All those different versions, packages...

I understand there's a lot of content and I don't want to sound linke an asshole, but I can't say I'm happy, having donated a considerable amount of money (for my pockets). There's already a lot of people online who are pissed about the news of the potential staggered release, it's gonna be a shitstorm any way you slice it. Brace yourselves. At least try releasing the full main game and only add the extra modes later. DO NOT break the main game unless you want to be painted as the next MN9 (wich, by the way, a lot of people are already doing).

There has never been any hint or indication that this wouldn't be the case. The staggered content release was only being considered for the extra modes only.
edit: Oh. I see what's gotten people in a tizzy now, Siliconera posted excerpts from the AppTrigger interview with an article title of "Bloodstained Developers are Considering a Staggered Model...". Thanks, Siliconera, for the "news". This will get more attention than AppTrigger's great interview itself and draw unnecessary attention to something that isn't even confirmed yet and scare people into thinking the game is getting released in episodes. oh dear

Correct. The Main game won't be broken in pieces. The extra features, that are pure bonus, they could be added later. But my gut is telling me most of the features or all will be included.

Those of us who played the GBA and DS games are accustomed to having all modes included and unlockable, since there was no really other method at the time! That is my preference, especially when dealing with physical copies of games. However, given the incredible number of stretch goals that were attained, I understand that it might be impractical for the team to prepare and test each of them before the release date. As long as the main game is complete (hopefully with some unlockable modes too), I will be happy. And I have no doubt that they know this and are planning on it.
The idea that an IGA game would feature an episodic release is bizarre, and I wish that gaming "news" sites would stop stirring people up with misleading headlines. Unfortunately, that wish may not be granted anytime soon.
