Hello. So I hear that Bloodstained will have a staggered release like with Shovel Knight. Personally, I see no issue with this, long as promises are delivered and the extra time is taken to make things like Boos Revenge Mode hopefully more fleshed out then in other games IGA has made. (I mean I love things like Sisters and Julius Mode, but let's face it, they are hardly what you would call expansive modes). But it does make me wonder: what will be included in the base game? IGA's biggest Castle for example is a given, and I['d imagine Multiplayer would be in from the start since that would be hell to code in later.
Basically, I'm wondering what comes with the base release and what will come later down the pipeline.

Ask again in a year or so. Nobody can possibly answer this question at this time - only offer their speculation. I will at least say "Iga's Biggest Castle" is an obvious modifier on the base content rather than a separate or parallel mode or addition. I see no reason to not expect the full castle to ship with the base game.

The most reasonable expectation for the Day One release is for the entire 1,600+ room Castle (as per "Iga's Biggest Castle") to be in the base game.

Multiplayer content. castledan was referring to the online modes that apparently caused enough trouble for the Mighty no.9 team to delay the game further. Networks are after all very different between the different platforms.
For Bloodstained, that would be things like online challenge mode, asynchronous online features and whatever else they are able to work in.

Is cross-platform co-op possible? Can a PC co-op with a PS4?
If not, which platform will have the highest users, so I can know which platform to back?

i have the feeling itll be about even between pc/ps4/xbone with maybe pc or ps4 being slightly more, we dont have real numbers on how many copies are backed and some of us backed multiple systems
as for crossplatform, thats ultimately up to sony and ms, while its possible to do ps4/pc or xbone/pc so far one company or the other will be the dick that says no crossconsole play, and unless nintendo finally debuts a system with full online capabilities dont hold your breath on the switch doing crossplatform IF there even is a switch version made

You know, with the announcement of 505 and in the BCB episodes with Ben and Mana recently I have my doubts that much (if any) content will be staggered. Sure, the Vita, Nintendo and Prequel Mini Game stuff might be considered a separate delivery time as they were stretch goals, but I think they are going to include everything else upon the initial shipment. Mana could you chime in on what I just said there and let me know if I'm thinking correctly?

Mana could you chime in on what I just said there and let me know if I'm thinking correctly? What are you specifically thinking of asking Mana? Is it perhaps what constitutes as the "core game"? If I recall correctly, a "staggered content release" just means that the core/main game will be out first, and all of the extra planned content will be added to the game in later months via Updates (just like with Shovel Knight). I guess it is a question of how much of the content will be part of the "core" game (some of which we could easily guess), and how much of the remaining promised content will be included with Updates.

I definitely would not count on it happening. And many of the multi-platform games I've seen report PS4 as having the highest users.

Okay, but for B: RotN specifically, which platform has the most backers so far if you count the Slacker Backers?

Interesting. I've never played a game where they "staggered content release." They do this all the time in the MMORPG sector. For dark reasons that are thankfully not applicable to Bloodstained.

I did not notice any recent posts after this confirming cross-platform play does indeed exist. But it's between Xbox One and Windows 10 users, IIRC. That likely means the users who buy the game on the godawful Windows Store, so that'll be negative numbers compared to Steam users...

People state Shovel Knights staggered content works, but the people who funded the game didn't have the option of a retail release. You have people who put a lot of money towards the game hoping to actually get a complete game, only to get a half finished game, Yacht Club games then porting it over to every other console imaginable, and only until three years after release do they actually release the remainder of the content. Those people who paid out the a** didn't get a finished game on day one, and they only have the option of a digital version. The people who purchased the first retail release of the game(or even the Vita version which came out later,) only got the main game and Plague Knight mode, and only this year gets an update with the remainder of the content, digital only btw.
I put $125 into Bloodstained, purchased the retail copy of the game, and if we do get a staggered version of the game, I'd like them to hold off on the retail copies until the game is complete. If they plan to release retail and digital on day one, then I'd rather have a complete game. I'd rather them put as much time as they have to to give me a finished product worthy of the money that I paid of the game rather than getting it out there as quick as possible so they can just start making money from those who haven't backed it. Releasing an unfinished game and staggered releases is less about doing it for the fans, it's just a nice way of saying we want to get money from people who haven't bought supported us as soon as possible, but for those who put a bunch of money into it to get a game at retail, we just get fu****. I'm not down with that.

We may get the complete game retail and then updates to that copy for the extra modes. What is the problem?

Yeah man, I got to the Shovel Knight party late, and I only played through the main SK campaign and loved it. That was definitely a full, complete game, and I'm probably skipping on Plague/Specter and everything else. I know it's great, but I was satisfied.

I was sure I weighed in on this, oh well, no time like the present.
I'm personally okay with the staggered release content so long as we get the staple IGAvania experience on launch (0n disc in my case, full disclosure, I pledged exclusively for a physical PS4 copy). Let me break down all our promised features and give my thoughts on whether I feel they should be in the main game, or if they would be good staggered.
1. The Core Game: We're getting this at launch no question, that's been confirmed. The full Castle with the complete story. Even if Mana and crew hadn't already confirmed this, it'd be suicide to release the game without at least the full story mode.
2. Bonus Playable Characters: Its classic IGA design to have the game with bonus characters to play as. They generally have much smaller movesets than the main character, and I'd expect the two characters to be at launch.
3. Nightmare Difficulty Mode: This depends on HOW they implement this one. If its just tweaking numbers so enemies hit much harder, I'd expect this at launch. BUT if they get creative and put late-game enemies in earlier areas to mix up replays and really throw you off, I could see this being released later on.
4. Cheat Codes: Silly cheat codes could probably be in the main game.
5. Local Co-Op: I dont even know how this one will work, so I cant even judge it. Will it be akin to Portrait of Ruin where you and your friends pick from several characters for the bonus modes? Friends Co-Oping the ENTIRE game as Miriam or other characters? I don't know where to slot this.
6. Speed Run Mode: I actually think its important to launch with this. The IGAvania genre is HUGE with the speedrunning community and giving those people their special mode is just a good move. Especially since as best as I can think, you'd just need to add a timer for this to work right? if its more involved maybe this could be staggered out.
7. Boss Rush Mode: Considering this is an IGA staple I'd honestly be surprised if this did not make it into the initial launch.
8. Classic Mode: Considering they've already committed to composing additional music for this one, I can see this being staggered out for later and that's fine.
9. Asynchronous Online Multiplayer/Online Challenge Mode: Anything online can be patched in later once the servers are confirmed stable and ready to handle the player load.
10. Roguelike Dungeon Mode: Again, not only do they want to have online sharing features, they're going to have to build algorithms to properly randomize rooms correctly, this can be a good staggered mode for later
11. Boss Revenge Mode: This is also prime "release it later" goofy fun and considering the team invented it on crunch because we just kept giving them money I'd say staggered is expected.
12. Prequel mini-game: This is a totally separate thing and I do not expect it at launch.
13. New Game + and Pure Miriam: NG+ is a classic feature and I'd consider launching with it pretty expected. The Pure Miriam costume as well, as it would give the art team something to work on while the testers work on debugging the game before launch.
So quick breakdown:
-I would think the launch would be the base game with the extra characters (or at least 1 of them), Nightmare mode, Boss Rush mode, NG+ and cheat codes, MAYBE Local Co-Op depending on how they even plan to do it.
The Online Modes, Speed Run Mode (if its complex and not just adding a timer), Roguelike Mode, Boss Revenge Mode, Classic Mode and the prequel are all thing's I'd expect to be staggered out and I'd consider that pretty reasonable.
