As would we all. Darn it crocodile and your thread title. lol Staggered content release has not been confirmed/announced, so don't worry too much at this point - the current plan is to fit everything in at launch. If they have to, they could use a different content delivery model but only if truly necessary.

Hey everyone,
Saw this thread and just wanted to confirm that we haven't officially said what we're going to end up doing when it comes to staggered content etc. because it's something that becomes more and more clear as the game is completed and dev schedules hit key milestones.
I can say that the "ideal" that we are striving for is to have the entire game launched at release.
However, as I've mentioned before, priority #1 is and always will be quality and delivering on the promises made to fans. So should it become necessary, you may end up getting some content after launch.
Having said that, we would never launch the game at all if it didn't have the core gameplay features that you would expect, such as the complete main game with all features complete.
So in conclusion, it remains a real possibility, and should we need to go this route I will as always communicate to everyone quickly and honestly what's going on.
Hopefully most people will agree with me that quality trumps immediacy, especially in our modern world of near-constant updates, improvements and patches that help make games more feature-rich, fun, and optimized.

As already mentioned above... "Shovel Knight".
Game is of high quality, then players behave like mature adults. Shovel Knight is even being praised due to this development model, for "developers showing their love to the game, by still working on it and offering new content".
Can work. Absolutely. I got Shovel Knight too and while waiting for the last DLC (for the king knight playable character and story), i haven't run out of things to do, since even regular updates add novelties (those Battletoads, ah)!
Personally, i almost always wait for a game to reach a goty version, or a full bundle one, with all content released assembled in one place... Then i start playing. In rare cases such as those kickstarter marvels of late, i forget patience and sink right in, not bothered in the least bit that some features are still absent. Good stuff is good.

I really wish people would quit it with the "OMG unfinished game" thing though. When staggered content is done right the game is not "unfinished".

I really wish people would quit it with the "OMG unfinished game" thing though. When staggered content is done right the game is not "unfinished". This is true Crocodile, but we as a community can only hope that things are done "right". I don't have an issue with staggered content as long as it's all of a similar high quality, but as i just said all we can do is hope for this and have faith that this will be the case. We're all aware that sometimes quality slips with "staggered content" in some cases, just gotta have faith that IGA keeps the standard up. The real issue with Bloodstained i feel will not be one of quality though, it's going to be more a question of how "staggered" the staggered release will be. How long will we be expected to wait for certain game modes or features? I'm patient and generally don't mind waiting for content but i do know not everyone is as accommodating as me - some people would be very unhappy to wait longer for content they've already been anticipating since the kickstarter. It would be helpful if at some point in the near future someone (possibly from 505) could give us some idea about what features will ship with initial release and what features we're gonna have to wait for along with some kind of vague release schedule for the staggered content. This approach might silence some critics of the staggered model. As long as the backer exclusive stuff remains only for backers (it's our reward for having faith in the project) and all the promised stretch-goals are achieved then i'm a happy bunny. I cant see IGA letting them release something he's unhappy with, staggered or otherwise.

crocodile100% with you. This game has already been in developement for quite a while and waiting till literally every piece they promised will make that time take far far longer. In an age of DLC it makes no sense why they wouldn't stagger it. Games stagger things all the time these days. IGAVANIA games never have this much EXTRA content, pack in the modes that an IGA game typically has always had included and then the other things can come later like they should.

Yeah, but I mean some clarification/rewording and maybe putting in one of Angel's posts might help so people know this isn't actually a thing, at least not yet. It's one of those moves that will be best announced when all of the details are known, to quell the unreasonable doubt and exaggerated worst case scenario theories that follow. Reminds me, I just saw a fairly large YT channel called Switch News or something put up "new" 2017 demo gameplay that didn't have music, and several people are now freaking out that the game doesn't have music. -_- hahaha...

For me staggered release is fine, I always have a habbit of playing a game till I’m bored of it, being staggered may alleviate that feeling. As long as I’m not expected to pay for constant dlc, allgee for me

The only concern I have for staggered release is hard copies of a game. Let's say everything is implemented by the time 1 year has elapsed since launch of the game. Not a problem. But 10 years later (or less) the ability to download the DLC is no longer there (servers removed). So alright, I'll just dig out my physical copy and oh wait... the stuff I want isn't here and there is no way to download it.
Not being able to play your game because it is digital, or part of it is digital is a real bummer, I can still pull out the NES and fire up a game. But today so many things require online access, and that isn't going to be provided forever. You purchase a licence to use the products as described in these terms of service and DO NOT take ownership of them.

Some warranted thread-necromancy, given that some of the extra content not being part of the physical game is still a concern.
I certainly wouldn't be opposed to a Bloodstained "special/complete" version down the road, assuming there'll be any more extra content created for the game beyond what we've been told.

I really have to say I dont think its feasible for all the stretch goal content to be ready to go, especially modes like the Roguelike and Boss Revenge material. Frankly I'd even say its a wise move to put the full game out with some modes, like Boss Rush and co-op, and use the incoming funds to keep development stable for these other, more demanding features and steadily release them instead of trying to cram it all in before its tested and ready.
I do get being afraid of loosing some of this stuff if its downloads. A while ago I realized I cant delete Dragon Age 3 from my PS4 because, apparently, the downloads for the DLC expansions will expire meaning if I delete it to make room for something else I might loose the extra content that was part of the freaking point of getting the GOTY edition. So yes, I can absolutely see why some people dont want their discs unless everything is on it from the word go.

Yes, truth be told, I never expected features like Asynchronous Online Multiplayer or the Roguelike Mode to be ready in the base-game.
I still think "Staggered" content release will be a thing with this game, but I'm always ready to be proven wrong.
