I really like Maven, she's always worth a listen, even if I am still waiting on a certain movie to come up.
Where is my "Near Dark" review Maven? That is my favorite Vampire movie bar none, and it should be required viewing for anyone wanting to play "Vampire the Masquerade" and where is THAT one eh Maven? How have you not talked about Vampire The Masquerade yet XD
Ah well, she has her adorable Spawnling to look after. She should totally nickname him Nevam!
As per this review, she does have a point about Dracula just up and vanishing and how it will be a waste of potential if he doesn't show up again until the finale.

Morte is basically a Mudman replacement. I'd love to see maybe different versions of Morte to stand-in for Skeletons and Zombies, like "Bone Morte" or "Rotting Morte" even though part of me wants Zombies and ESPECIALLY spooky scary skeletons to show up. DON'T GIVE UP SKELETON WE BELIEVE IN YOU!

Okay, I'll just leave my thoughts here:
I'd rather there not be some kind of cooking minigame, like Pokeblock blending or what have you. Finding various ingredients to make temporary buff potions just doesnt seem like an additional gameplay system we need. BUT there ARE ways I could see something involving ingredients work in a way I'd find acceptable.
I believe Order of Ecclesia had one of the shopkeepers basically offer additional healing items if you brought him/her ingredients. So I could see Dominique/Anne having a little quest like "Bring me 3 Thyme and 2 Eye of newt and I can add High potions to the shop" or something of that nature, that way finding ingredients compliments a feature that already exists instead of being its own feature, The last thing I want to see here is feature bloat, where there are so many systems and gimmicks in place that the game ends up feeling like less than the sum of its parts.
To me, part of the fun of the food in IGAvanias was that you'd just FIND a slice of pizza hidden in some sub-basement. It was funny, weird and charming. It'd be less special if Miriam could just make pizza. Maybe that makes no sense, but I hope it does :3

As long as Bloodstained holds up (and based on everything we've been seeing I feel confident it will) I think a direct sequel is pretty much a given. I don't think IGA would put so much on the line to resurrect "Castlevania" and then only do a single game like it. I don't think a new Bloodstained every year or two is in the cards like it was a decade ago when IGA and Konami just kept the same engine and recycled huge amount of spritework but I'd say, again provided BS is a success, getting a sequel around 2020 sounds reasonable.

Because it's Castlevania specific, I kinda think it belongs in Off Topic. Music kinda works too though... I don't mind leaving where it is, but if you request I move it somewhere I will. If you're okay leaving it where it is that's fine by me, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving this in a really bad spot.

The Belmonts are the legendary hero family of Castlevania, and all of them (except poor Sonya) has at least one mighty theme song associated with them. So the question of the day is, of course, which of these legendary heroes has the BEST theme? Below I've included a link to a version of every Belmont's major theme, just in case some don't recognize songs by name. It should be noted that many of these songs have had multiple renditions through the years, (and I made a point to only pick in-game versions) so if your favorite version of a theme is not the one I picked, or if you know about a badass fan made arrangement, absolutely share your favorite version. I simply chose the versions I did to keep the themes on a fairly equal playing field in terms of quality, but if your favorite theme is Simon's and your favorite version is the classic SNES theme from SCIV, let us know! The Themes of House Belmont:Leon Belmont-Lament of Innocence: a haunting, tragic theme for a man who lost everything Trevor Belmont-Beginning: A fittingly triumphant theme for the first man to defeat Dracula Christopher Belmont-Battle of the Holy: A driving song for a man who would face Dracula twice and save his beloved son Simon Belmont-Dance of the Holy Man: Only this powerful building anthem could fit the man who killed Dracula alone at the height of his strength, then brought him back and killed him again whist dying from a curse Juste Belmont-Successor of Fate-A mysterious theme for the mystically inclined Grandson of Simon Belmont Richter Belmont-Divine Bloodlines: This theme fits the legendary status of Richter Belmont, a Belmont so awesome his ghost can kick your ass, as Jonathan Morris discovered Julius Belmont-Heart of Fire: For the man who killed Dracula once and for all we have an amazing remix of two of the most classic themes in the series So, my fellow soldiers of the night, Which Belmont theme shall prevail!? I shall post my pick later, so as not to make this initial post any longer than it already is. Also, XombieMike if I've made a mistake posting this here instead of in the Music thread, please move it when you have a moment. It didn't occur to me until later I may have put this in the wrong area.

Okay, so I deleted my earlier post because I wanted to put some actual thoughts down now that I have some time to do so.
>Voice Actors While certainly not the most important thing ever, I've always had fun noticing when certain people keep popping up, and I'm curious if Bloodstained will go with relative newcomers, or if Hayter is any indication, if we can expect industry regulars like Laura Bailey and Troy Baker to show up.
>Crafting and Forging We've gotten so little information on the crafting system and I'm just itching to know what it's actually going to be like. Will it be like Dawn of Sorrow? Curse of Darkness? Something entirely new? I've got my own predictions and I still really want to know how the crafting is going to work and how prominent it's going to be.
>Playable characters Who doesn't want to know who the other playable characters are? Having more than one playable character has almost always been a good time in IGA's previous games (and in some cases I like the alternate character even more than the main one *cough*TrevorBelmontInCurseOfDarkness*cough*) and though I'm 99% sure Zangetsu will be one of them, I'm dying to know who the other is. Dominique? Johaness? Oh the suspense!
>Environments This is very key for me, as one of the issues I had with some of the past IGAvania titles was how a Castle, no matter how lovingly detailed, only has so many ways to make it look different. The existence of the Galleon Minerva and Cursed Village gives me hope that we'll also get places like Caves or a Greenhouse on top of places like a Cathedral, Clock Tower or Alchemy Laboratory. I'm not expecting lots of areas outside the castle like CoD or OoE, no haunted forests or dragon-patrolled mountains, but more variety within the castle will be important for me. >Weapons and items And of course, the weapon variety. I'm very anxious about how weapons will play out, since its not uncommon for IGA's games to have weapons that are SUPER cool but also weak and don't stand up in the endgame, like the Whipsword and Pistols from Aria and the Nebula from Portrait. We know thus far the Backer Katana and Whipsword are endgame weapons, but I'm hoping every kind of weapon has a powerful, late game version so every player can have what they want. Swords, Guns, Spears, Whips, every kind of weapon should be viable.

BloodyTears92 , how about CV2? It's also unusual how you ranked LoS2 over LoS1, can you talk about that some? Usually people strongly prefer either MoF or LoS1 over 2. I forgot all about Simon's Quest XD. Its unranked for me, on account of its so bad I don't want to finish it on top of I don't want to sit here with a guide open because of how obtuse and poorly designed it is. As for Lords of Shadow, I know I'm in a minority since I rank the first game the lowest and MoF the highest. Since you're curious I'll go into it: Lords of Shadow is probably the most tightly designed, I'll admit that right away, but so much of it felt off. Like, I didn't feel like I was playing Castlevania, rebooted or otherwise, until I got to Malphas' Tower. Then Carmilla's Castle was great, but then the Land of the Dead got boring again. The Shadow of the Collossus rip off bosses were fun the first time I played the game, especially the Dracolich, but on replay I find them tedious and annoying. Also, I understand wanting to get the most out of Sir Patrick Stewart, but having him narrate EVERYTHING gave the game an extremely grating "tell, don't show" mindset and really limited the also very talented Robert Carlyle's performance. And you need the DLC otherwise the time skip to "Oh he's Dracula now" is just so random. Now Lords of Shadow 2, I feel, has the lowest lows, but also the highest highs. Yes the stealth segments are AWFUL, the lead-up to the otherwise solid Agreus boss was infuriating, they copped out hard on the final acolyte and there were other frustrating design choices (like giving every enemy a fast projectile to prevent you from running away). But now for the stuff I love. Part of the reason I love MoF and LoS2 is the fact that (prepare for heresy of the highest magnitude) I think Mercurysteam's interpretation of Alucard is by far the best version of the character. Richard Madden gave an excellent performance, and I found his personality and backstory more nuanced and interesting. The twist at the end of LoS2 where he and his father had been working together the entire time was really a great moment. I feel like LoS2 has the best boss fights, a better soundtrack than 1, and the combat, while already good in 1, felt even better in 2. Gabriel's powers in 2 felt a lot more useful than the subweapons from 1. Though I wish he had more time, Victor Belmont was really interesting while he was around and his boss fight was AWESOME. Also, I REALLY like the modern era setting for most of it. Exploring a modern, hyperstyalized gothic city was really cool for me since I ADORE urban fantasy. So yeah, while I admit LoS2 is less, sometimes significantly less, competently designed than the first game, I just feel like when its at its best, its amazing. And there are a lot of unique elements in it that just scratch my itches really well. EDIT: I just wanted to note the liniarity of the first game did not bother me like it did many. Lords of Shadow 1 was clearly hearkening back to the pre-Igrashi era and I'm down this that, I like the pre-IGA Castlevania games just as much against the IGA era.

Top Tier: -Order of Ecclesia -Aria of Sorrow -Super Castlevania IV -Rondo of Blood
High Tier: -Symphony of the Night -Portrait of Ruin -Castlevania -Castlevania 3 -Mirror of Fate
Mid Tier: -Curse of Darkness -Lament of Innocence -Lords of Shadow 2 -Circle of the Moon -Castlevania Chronicles -Harmony of Dissonance -Harmony of Despair -Dawn of Sorrow -Adventure Rebirth
Low Teir -Lords of Shadow -Judgment -Castlevania 64
Unranked: (I've played all of these but have not *beaten* any of them so I cannot rank them truthfully, though I WANT to put Simon's Quest and Adventure in Low, Legends in Mid, and both Bloodlines and Belmont's Revenge in High based on initial impressions. I've never even tried Legacy of Darkness) -The Adventure -Belmont's Revenge -Legends -Bloodlines -Legacy of Darkness -Simon's Quest

Gotta go with Judgment here, its just so grand and epic. CotM is a close second though, I'm just as fond of the series' chiptune music as I am its orchestral arrangements.

I basically expect the "Retro Level" to be a portion of the castle rendered in 16 bit graphics. I'd be surprised if there were "retro enemies" but that would be pleasant. I highly doubt Miriam will transform into some kind of "retro 16 bit Miriam" though, as cool as that might be.
EDIT: just thought I'd add that the reason I think this will be the case is that adding in all kinds of pixelated enemies, shards, effects etc. Would take a great deal of time, and I feel like the team dont want to devote a ton of time to a single extra feature, especially one that's probably purely cosmetic as opposed to a full mode.

1) Forging will have a "recipe" list, where you can only try what's on that list (obtaining new recipes in the game) or will be a trial-and-error game, losing material when fails?
I believe there will be a recipe list myself, if only because that's how crafting has worked in IGA's past game like DoS, CoD and OoE.
2) How do you think forging will work? Adding up materials and waiting for the magic to happen? Some kind of complex system revolving around things like weight, balance, maybe a mini game, or something else?
I think it will be simple, just selecting an option to combine a certain weapon with a certain material.
3) We will be able to level up gear by reforging them with stronger / better materials?
I mean, maybe, but I doubt it. IGA's prior games favored simply finding stronger weapons in a category as opposed to taking any one weapon and making it better. Like, you didn't take a Short Sword and make it better. You'd find a Long Sword, then maybe a Gladius all the way up to a legendary weapon like Hrunting or Cladbolg. I'd expect the same here.
4) It was confirmed that Bloodstained will have two types of weapons, the common weapons and a special category called "Backer weapons" (temporary name) that are weapons that can be leveled up to be the most powerful weapons in the game. Do you think we will be able to forge just common weapons, backer weapons or both?
I think common and backer both, with Backer weapons like requiring a special rare crystal. But I could also see Backer weapons being purely found via exploring and separate from the crafting system.
5) Would you like if forging had some kind of one-of-a-kind materials? Things that you can only obtain once and you will be only able to get it again in a new game+?
I fully expect this to be the case: like maybe Vepar's crystal can be used to make one of several strong weapons but obviously you can only get Vepar's crystal once a run (outside maybe Roguelike Mode)
6) Do you believe that shards will be used on forging somehow? if yes, how?
I actually expect shards to be the main forging component, or at least part of it. Like, Combining a basic weapon with a shard to get a new weapon, or adding an extra step like weapon+material+shard
7) Gear o Bloodstained: Forging-heavy (the majority of equipment will be obtained by forging), picking up heavy (the majority will be obtained at breakable walls, chests, secret rooms), or balanced?
I'd rather it be forging heavy actually. Maybe have a set of basic weapons in the shop and have the bulk of drops be materials and shards to improve them. Dont cut weapons from the castle entirely, that could easily be how Backer weapons fit in.
8) Miriam will forge equipment herself anywhere (kickstarter says she will use her knowledge in alchemy for it), she will need a special room for it (maybe her own room (there is a talk that Miriam will have a room inside the castle) or some other place) or someone else will do the forging for her? Who? Where?
I think Miriam will need to work with a specific shop or room, forging anywhere was only really done in Curse, the rest focused on using a shop to the best of my memory at the moment.
9) Only weapons was advertised for forging. Do you believe we will be able to forge overall gear? And potions will be craftable too?
I dont *think* armor will be part of it but it would not surprise me. Also, as much as Alchemy making potions is iconic, I dont expect that really.
10) About crafting, Kickstarter talks about using "magi-crystals" for it. Magi-crystal is the name of the crystals engulfed on the body of Miriam and Gebel, of their curse. Magi-crystals will be used for forging. Do you believe they will give special effects to the gear (like a fire magi-crystal giving fire protection for an armor and fire elemental attacks for a weapon) or something else?
I've waited till the end here to get at what I think, or hope t least, crafting will be like. Let me make an example here:
1. You buy a basic "Leather Whip" from the shop, which does physical damage. 2. Later on, you find some "Steel" and at the shop, you combine the Leather Whip with the Steel and make a stronger "Steel Whip" which does more physical damage. 3. Even later, you find there are two ways to further forge the "Steel Whip" -> 3a. You can combine the Steel Whip with something like "Mithril" to get an even stronger physical damage "Mithril Whip" -> 3b. You can combine the Steel Whip with "Vepar's Shard" and thus get the "Aqua Whip" which instead does Elemental Water Damage as opposed to basic physical damage. 4. The "Aqua Whip" is the end of that chain, but later on you find that you can combine the Mithril Whip with "Bloodess' Shard" shard and get the "Blood Whip" which does Dark Damage and also heals you.
That's the kind of thing I expect here.

1) Plot heavy (lots of cutscenes, dialogue, characters interaction like Metal Gear Solid) or plot light? (Like most Igavanias)?
I'd like more plot than the typical IGA game, if only because this is a new world and characters that I'd love to see really fleshed out, but I dont want it to go CRAZY like the typical Hideo Kojima experience.
2) Miriam should have a customization clothing option that is purely sexual in nature, designed with nothing more than just sexual exploitation of her looks?
No. Absolutely not. Her current design has enough sex appeal as it is.
3) Should the game's shop have a exobirbitant costly item? If yes, what that item could be? Symphony of the Night had Duplicator (500.000, infinite item usage), Aria and Dawn of Sorrow had Soul Eater Ring (300.000, give luck and duplicates soul drop chance, souls are the main powers of the game), Portrait of Ruin had Holy Claymore (300.000, highest attack weapon in the game).
I'd think a ring of massive MP regen is a given, possibly super expensive endgame variants for some of the weapon types. Maybe a ring that puts Miriam into a permanent "overload" state where the crystal curse just overtakes her and makes her stupid powerful at the expense of defense.
4) Should Miriam have a signature move? A power that is so powerful, or just so damn stylish that ends up defining her? Alucard had Soul Steal and Dark Metamorphosis, Richter Belmont had Hydro Storm, Soma Cruz had Minotaur Soul (that even ends up being his main power as a boss in Dawn of Sorrow). If yes, that should be a Shard or a command power (the game may have these)? And how should it be?
As I said above I could see Miriam having some kind of "buff" shard power that sends her curse into overdrive: most of her body is covered in crystal and she does crazy damage but if she gets hit one or twice she dies.
5) Talking about areas (like Entrance, Clock Tower and such), What do you prefer? Few areas, huge in size, or lots of areas, lower in size?
Between the two, I prefer a greater variety of smaller environments. Its one of the reasons PoR and OoE stick with me, getting out of the castle and seeing a greater variety of areas is just my thing. No matter how good a castle is, I'm going to want a change of pace eventually.
6) Skeletons were the most recognizable enemies of Castlevanias, and all games of the franchise had them. Do you believe Morte took it's place at Bloodstained? Or something else?
Morte is a good Skelaton equivalent, though I DO wish we still had, like, Skeletons covered in crystals or something, I just LOVE Skeletons.
7) If Bloodstained turns into a franchise, would you prefer that each game follows the same timeline (like most Igavanias) or would you rather that Bloodstained became a meta-franchise, where each game can exist at it's own universe, but sharing the same elements? (Like Final Fantasy and Shin Megami Tensei).
I'd rather IGA flesh out different eras of a world than do something like Shin Megmi Tensei, Final Fantasy or Fire Emblem.
8) If Bloodstained ends up being a flop, would you still support IGA if he tried again at kickstarter?
As long as Bloodstained turns out to be a good example of his work, I would have no issue backing him again, though I likely would not throw as much at it a second time.
9) If Bloodstained ends up being a huge success, would you still support IGA if he tried again at kickstarter?
As long as Bloodstained turns out to be a good example of his work, I would have no issue backing him again, though I likely would not throw as much at it a second time.
10) IGA said in a interview, when asked about new things for his Igavania formula, that there is something, gameplay-wise, that they didn't revealed yet and it is quite new. What do you think that is?
I bet its the true function of the "Effective" shard, we still dont know what it is.
11) What is the worst possible ending, you can think off for the game? Worst in a sense of badly written and conceived, without being a joke.
A Saccharine, happily ever after ending. Fairy Tale endings like that are just not satisfying.
12) Bloodless (E3 Demo Boss) should be a playable character for the Boss Revenge Mode? If yes, how would you do her gameplay?
I'd say yes. Have a basic umbrella swing for a standard attack and either various shard inputs or commands for her special moves like blood rain.
13) If you could choose a single character (Miriam included) to not die at the canon ending, who would be?
Anne, if only because killing children just does not sit with me.
14) Magic heavy or weapons heavy? Symphony of the Night was weapons heavy. ALucard main method of dealing damage was using powerful weapons, with his own powers being secondary. Soma was a balance between his magical prowess and weapon usage, while Shanoa was magic heavy, even if you consider her "weapon-magic" to be weapons, her pure magic was way stronger than her weapon-magic. I'm not talking about numbers, but sheer power. Would you prefer Miriam to have more powerful weapons or more powerful magic?
Miriam already strikes me as balanced like Soma.
15) Quests should unlock basic items at the shop, like Order of Ecclesia (that required quests to unlock potions for instance) or they should be more focused on exclusive equipment and such, like Portrait of ruin?
Portrait of Ruin was the better system, it made quests feel important, not just busywork. The shop should just get new inventory as the plot progresses.
16) Your option over the "ability to traverse the whole castle" most Igavanias had. Transforming into a animal and flying (like Alucard on Symphony of the Night and Soma in Aria/Dawn of Sorrow as Bats, Charlotte in Portrait of Ruin as a Owl), Infinite High Jumps (like Juste on Harmony of Dissonance) or Wings (Like Shanoa in Order of Ecclesia)?
I can see Miriam having crystal wings
17) Considering Zangetsu as the second playble character, who would you like to be the third? Johannes, Anne, Dominique, Alfred or Gebel?
Dominique, easily. With Zangetsu as the more physical oriented alternate character, Dominique is perfect as a holy-based spellcaster. The Yoko to Zangetsu's Julius.
18) Who has bigger breasts? Dominique or Miriam?
Hard to say. Probably Dominique but then, Miriam was significantly bustier once her actual model was made from initial artwork so who knows, poor Dominique might end up having to wear a back brace under her robes with that trend.

So thanks to a friend, I FINALLY got to sit down at watch it, and DAMN I was so very, very happy. The animation and art direction, the violence and gore were very welcome, Trevor was really great. At first I thought he was too much of an ass compared to the much more noble and humble hero he is in the games, but it becomes clear very quickly that all of his "I dont care"s are as much to himself as anyone else, as he clearly DOES. The fight with Alucard was fantastic as well. Dracula was awesome as well, sinister but also sympathetic.
I will say I agree sometimes the dialogue was just trying to hard to be "gross". Like, we get it, this is for grown ups, I just watched a demon rip a woman's jaw off. But overall, easily the best videogame adaptation and I eagerly await the much longer season 2.
As for the future, I think jumping to Christopher and/or Simon is inevitable.
