Got back into Final Fantasy XIV for the few weeks of waiting, finally got past the epilogues and into Heavansward proper, and picked up Stormblood so I'm having fun learning Red Mage, Samurai and Dark Knight.

I'm thinking its going t be Robbie Belgrade's Mysterious Man as well, whomever that is. I'd love it if Dominique were the one, I love her design and having a "Yoko" caster character focusing on holy magic and exorcisms would be fun, but I really bet they wouldnt just bring fan favorite Robbie Belgrade back for just a cameo.

I'm not surprised at the extra modes being dlc, though I *am* surprised neither of the bonus characters are done. So I *think* we are getting:
The base game with Miriam, complete with anything related to the castle like the "retro level", "Orchestrated music" and "IGA's Biggest Castle" obviously. Boss Rush and Speed Run are good day one updates since we did expect Boss Rush at launch for sure. All the other modes coming later was expected.
As for the "IGA's Back pack" I voted to keep that stuff just for us, but Ive gotten into to many vicious fights that always ended with me feeling like an ***hole for not considering the myriad ways people might not have been able to get that content even though they may have wanted to back at the time.
As for the price, $40 for the base game and $10 for the pack matches fine for backers since we are getting exclusive slipcases with Kojima's art. I feel like that covers the extra $10 but others might feel differently. And COTM was supposed to be free fr us so Im not counting that in the extra $10 because, well, then that would mean we paid for it, not gotten it free.
EDIT: Also I backed for FAR more than $60, so I probably feel differently because Im also getting the soundtrack, the art book, shirt, poster, signatures etc. I've already got a punch of physical exclusive stuff. Disclosure etc.

It happens with a ton of games. After all, as popular as Dark Souls is, how many people who bought it on a sale actually got far at all? I myself have several games sitting on steam that I havent touched, just waiting on a rainy day kind of thing.
COTM is also a little more complex case because plenty of people got copies for free for backing at a certain amount. Whether they actually wanted it or not. There are plenty of fans of the IGA games that DESPISE the games that came before him because they prefer the rpg exploration to classic platforming. How many IGA fans got a game based on the pre-IGA era, even though it was free, and said "eww platforming", and never touched it?

I can get behind low drop rates on rare items from strong enemies, but I hope there are items to increase luck, "farming gear" so to speak.
One system I hope stays dead back with Harmony of Dissonance is the system where as you outlevel enemies eventually you only get 1 EXP. It made hitting 99 in SOTN and HoD basically impossible.

I was in a pretty rough spot when this started, so safe to say seeing IGA come back in such glorious fashion played a huge part in keeping my spirits up. Watching the game grow and expand over the years to become as promising as it looks now has been awesome!

I really have to say I dont think its feasible for all the stretch goal content to be ready to go, especially modes like the Roguelike and Boss Revenge material. Frankly I'd even say its a wise move to put the full game out with some modes, like Boss Rush and co-op, and use the incoming funds to keep development stable for these other, more demanding features and steadily release them instead of trying to cram it all in before its tested and ready.
I do get being afraid of loosing some of this stuff if its downloads. A while ago I realized I cant delete Dragon Age 3 from my PS4 because, apparently, the downloads for the DLC expansions will expire meaning if I delete it to make room for something else I might loose the extra content that was part of the freaking point of getting the GOTY edition. So yes, I can absolutely see why some people dont want their discs unless everything is on it from the word go.

I really love a lot of the older games, in face looking back at that thread my favorites were a pretty even blend of the 'classic' games and the 'IGA' games. The original, Dracula's Curse, Super IV, Rondo, Adventure Rebirth...I really hope Classic mode turns out well. The fact Bloodstained could deliver a satisfying version of both kinds of Castlevania is just so awesome. Especially after Curse of the Moon (and Adventure Rebirth before it, people seem to forget how good that was) prove IGA knows how to land the style and rhythm of the games that came before him.

I think, speaking in general terms, that has a lot to do with the fact that a classic "good vs. evil" story is considered 'not enough' these days, having an irredeemably evil villain and an unwaveringly good hero is considered boring at best, lazy at worst. Just looking at television and movies, you see popular media like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones where almost nobody is classically good or evil. Breaking Bad is, as much as Ive heard having not seen it, an entire cast of people where the protagonist is only the hero because his opponents are even worse.
Even the MCU, people prop up the heroes and especially the villains who have more gray and complex morals like Thanos or Killmonger. The best Ive seen from truly evil villains is with ones like Dio from Jojo or Red Skull from Captain America, where the character is so charismatic and entertaining nobody cares they arent very complicated.
So I think thats why elements like god and satan are left out here, good vs evil just bores people these days.

Over the course of the campaign I slowly rose from $60 to $100 to $150 because I wanted the art book and the soundtrack (and my name in the credits because thats cool). I sat that way for 2 years and when the slacker backer campaign had its end announced I was in a good spot money wise and decided I REALLY wanted my stuff signed.
So I ended on $300 for the shirt, poster, collector box and signatures. Anything beyond that just felt unnecessary even if I'd had that much money to blow. So Im pretty thrilled.

I didnt even think about that but you're right, as much as CotM feels like its lawsuit worthy even that wouldnt sate by those standards since it lacks the upgrading whip, specific subweapons and muti shot upgrades.
I do wonder how this will go. I cant really even guess how the game would diverge further from Castlevania until we see where this goes since the story and gameplay are entirely based around the Crystal alchemy curse and, assuming Gebel dies, Miriam would end the game as the only wielder of that power assuming she doesnt also get cured somehow or maybe even die of it herself (I REALLY doubt that, even Ecclesia's ending was unusually depressing for an IGA game and Miriam dying would be even worse than Shanoa being alone, heartbroken and forgotten by history).
The core gameplay is founded on a Soma/Shanoa style power system and a sequel would have to have massive mechanical changes if it had a new protagonist without the Shardbinder powers.

Im not expecting every bonus mode out of the gate, especially something like Roguelike and really especially Boss Revenge which was added at the last minute.
I would also expect the IGA staples to be included: alternate characters, boss rush, etc.
I thought the "Retro Level" was to be a section of the castle done in 16 bit, not a mode, and I should say I also hope classic mode is in at launch, its the one Im most looking forward to considering I love the pre-IGA Castlevania games as much as the IGA games.

Oh, I wasnt exactly meaning if IGA wanted to focus entirely on Miriam, moreso the fans. People love getting attatched to characters after all, good or ill.
Just as an example lets look at the new Men in Black film. People were clearly getting tired of the franchise and of constantly bringing back the same two characters (as far as I could tell back when MIB3 was new) and yet now that the franchise has finally broken away from K and J, and with a beloved duo in Hemsworth and Thompson from Thor 3, all you see are "Where are K and J? Its not MIB without Jones and Smith!"
That's more what Im referring to, that IGA will actively want to move on from Miriam after this game but the fans might get upset if the character they just got attached to is not the star going forward.
Highlander was another franchise I truly believe hamstrung itself by insisting on keeping the same main character. And by every film after the first being terrible. But I digress. You have this AMAZING premise of immortals through history and yet we always follow Connor Macleod. Even the TV series, which I liked, felt the need to tie the new main character to Connor anyway. It never panned out but I legit tried writing a story set in the Highlander-verse with a totally different set of characters because of how much potential I saw in the premise that barely ever got put to use.
Im rambling a bit but my point is I agree that sequels should have other protagonists, I just worry how that might pan out is all.

Gotta say your posts are good reads mate.
On the subject, at least for now I feel 99% sure a theoretical Bloodstained 2 would be a 2.5D IGAvania game. It'd be suicide to get back on his feet with a return to form then utterly break from his most beloved formula for the sequel.
As for where that sequel would go? I think it depends a great deal on whether Miriam herself becomes integral to the franchise's identity. Castlevania had an advantage here with its Jojo-esque lineage of heroes battling evil across history. BS doesnt have that, it has Miriam. So if Miriam turns into a beloved character...would fans demand she be the lead from then on? If IGA decided Bloodstained 2 should be about a totally different character in a totally different time period, would people accept it not being Miriam? And even if we did, like, Miriam's kids, isnt that too similar to the Belmonts with Miriam being the Matriarch of a demon slaying family line?
As for Castlevania? I dont have a clue. Between Smash Ultimate and Netflix its obvious people still love the series and want it back, but do we want modern, Metal Gear Survive Konami to bother? I dont, quite frankly. I can fondly remember OoE as the last golden memory of a great franchise.

I expected 30 fps on the switch, its just a compromise that has to happen to keep it playable in a portable format, same with the lower resolution. But the fact the game defaults to 720 even docked on a proper television is a bit surprising. Granted Im a PS4 backer, but I know the Switch is going to be a big deal for the game and i just wonder what the reasoning is that the game couldnt be 1080 by default when the console is properly docked.
Though Im also ignorant as to just what "dynamic" means in this context so that might mean people with 4K monitors could see even higher than 1080.

Oh I agree, I'm super glad the team stuck it out and insisted the game is paced correctly, I was just exploring an angle I thought explained why the speed might seem like an issue to some now when it wasnt back then.

Its also the general popularity of games that have helped redefine the genre since IGA's absence. Bloodstainend still feels like a Castlevania game in terms of speed but its also important to note that a fair few people seeing this now had their tastes honed by "inspired by Castlevania" games like Dead Cells, or Guacamelee or Dust, most of which tend to be at least a little faster, if not a LOT faster. So for some I think when the "series that inspired the games you love now is returning under a new name" and its not actually quite like the stuff it inspired it creates at least a little disconnect. "I thought Salt and Sanctuary borrowed heavily from Castlevania, but its faster and the combat is a lot more punishing and brutal." Stuff like that. The old games have been gone for fifteen years now, thats almost a full friggin generation ago, scary as it is.
