I like the Miriam in shader #1 and the environment in shader #2, but it's hard for me to choose.

My understanding, at least, is that there won't be multiple shaders available in the final version—they're developing four candidates because they want the backers to have a stake in (and offer feedback about) the final look of the game, but my guess is that the amount of spit and polish they'll want to put into whichever shader proves most popular with the fans and the development team will keep them from doing multiple, swappable shaders. I'll ask them about it just to confirm, though!
The update should go live tomorrow—we just got some brief comments from IGA on the first two shaders, and Lindsay's translating them as we speak. Then we'll send it all to Japan for the final approval and I'll post it.

Steve beat me to it—the tentative date is exactly a week from now. We've seen a few screenshots with the first shader they're working on and everybody in the office is pretty excited about it (If they get it locked in early enough I plan on tweeting out a teaser on Friday...)
They won't have the second shader done until the very end of the month, though, so we thought it would be better to let them sweat the details on it a little longer rather than rushing out something they aren't really excited about. Right now the current plan is to show you the first two shaders in about a week and the other two candidates in the regular December update at the end of the year.

Basically saying ... flat = boring level design and hoping this isn't too common.. Hubs= boring and less creative exploring unless you find some sorta cool portal like SOTN did where the whole castle is upside down not implying the art means this because they made just be using it for the look and feel. This is all speculation on my part—I don't have any inside information about game design—but when we did the panel IGA talked for a little while about moving from the original game design, which featured levels from around the world, to a huge, explorable castle after the publishers turned him down and he decided to bring the game to the fans. To me that sounds like a move away from the hub concept. (Plus: We're going to be designing and producing a huge castle map for the $500 tier. We won't know what that's going to look like for months and months—again, I don't know anything about the game's design that you guys don't—but when we proposed it nobody on the Japan side said "Oh, actually that won't work, because the castle's just a hub world.")

Hey guys! Hope you liked the panel. I had a lot of fun being a part of it.
Sorry the Q&A got cut short. We've translated some of your questions from the forum post and we'll be using them in that upcoming Ask IGA—I'll try to get a date on when that'll be ready from IGA and Ben soon.

It will be streamed! Also, we'll be taking a few of the Q&A questions from a topic here that my coworker Steve will post in a couple of minutes.
But if I say any more I'll be poaching from the Kickstarter update, which should be going live today...

Quick update for you guys: I just received a development update from IGA, so we should be ready to go sooner rather than later on the August update.
A regular development team segment is great—I'll bring that up next time we talk to them.

DangamerPlease send someone tho the Kickstarter to calm all ones who tinks the new character will be Microsoft exclusive.... As soon as IGA's update to the backers arrives we'll be posting the August update. We've been keeping our eye on the weird misinformation going around, too—we definitely don't want to let anything like that get out of hand. IGA promised everybody a certain number of playable characters, not just Microsoft players.

Can't confirm this yet—I won't know for sure until I get the dev update—but I believe IGA will be talking a little more about this character in our next Kickstarter post.

Thanks! To be clear, once the survey launches it'll be an ongoing process—we tend to wait quite a while to collect mailing addresses, for instance, since they change so often. (When I back a Kickstarter personally I usually don't realize they have an outdated address on file until they announce they've started shipping rewards, and then I have to send a frenzied e-mail to get it changed at the last minute.)
But like you said, we want to launch the system soon so that people who are ready to upgrade or become slacker backers can get the process started. I can't narrow down a timeline on here just because I don't want to put our developer on the spot without him knowing about it, but having looked over his shoulder at it whenever he's too busy to notice (he sits one desk over from me) my inexpert opinion is that it's getting pretty close.

Hi guys—sorry about the lack of updates, we've been working really hard to get our new survey software live and that involved a lot of ducking our heads down and testing things. This week I'm going to be working with the Japan side to get their pieces of August's update ready, so we should have something for you soon.
As for the survey, I don't have a launch date yet, but I think you're all going to like it. We're trying to build something that feels a little more like the original campaign than most survey/slacker backer systems, so that people who missed the Kickstarter can still feel like they're contributing to development, instead of just preordering a game. (I'll try to have an updated survey timeline in our next update. I also noticed some people asking for updated funding totals, so I'll check in about that, too.)
Let me know if you have any questions—I'll be hanging around on here much more often now. (We just ran our first ever convention here in Tucson and I had to host our two-day charity stream, so things were a bit hectic...)

Looking forward to working with you guys. Fangamer got its start as an unofficial EarthBound website when we were all 12-year-olds who didn't know each other—yikes, that's like 16 years ago now—so we've always been forum people.
I'd like to personally thank everybody who's been active here and on the Kickstarter page—as the one writing most of the updates, it was incredibly helpful to have enthusiastic, knowledgeable people around to clarify things between updates. One of my coworkers was answering Kickstarter messages seven days a week more or less from beginning to end of the Kickstarter, and she would have been even busier without you guys answering questions in the comments.
