dareka that is a God tier reply and I retract my sentiments about any part of the team making this decision from a mortally questionable standpoint. I feel I have a certain self imposed responsibility as a community advocate. That comes with listening to everyone, and in this case I not only heard people's pleas for a refund, but for unaffected backers in agreement with them. Naturally, this made quite a few backers understandably angry. When I didn't hear a reason from 505 Games that made me understand why refunds weren't possible I just kinda fell in with those who are upset and assumed this decision not to refund a relatively small number of affected backers was morally questionable. Your reply highlights some really good points there. If refunds were possible, they would do them. No one wants the bad PR on any side. That means for some reason refunds are not possible, and for some reason they won't come right on out and say exactly why. I think many people have figured out why though, which has been mentioned a few times in various places. My backer choices are locked for what platform I'm on, so I can't confirm it, but was there ever a time these backers actually chose the Mac or Linux platform? I don't recall it being an option in the list. The whole reason might very well be that they would have to open refunds to every PC backer, and that would just be very irresponsible and a decision that is obviously correct to refuse to pay refunds. It's the only thing that makes sense. I have no idea why they wouldn't just come out and say that is what happened. Ownership and accountability is a quality I expect from all involved companies, but if they haven't said why then there is probably a reason we can't see in public. I wish someone would, because I hope that it would make those affected understand that it's not just an evil corporation money thing, and it would help those backers like me who sympathize so much to understand as well. In the end though, it doesn't change the fact that there will be no refund for Linux and Mac backers, so what ever reason they have for holding on to that must not outweigh this benefit. Long story short, I formally apologize for insinuating that a morally questionable decision was made. Thanks Dareka.

"As for the KS comment" The link works for you? Maybe it's just my phone browser having issues. I don't have the context of the comment, but it sounds like some legal BS. Legally, no refunds are due. This has been explained thoroughly enough so I can't explain that better than its already been explained.
As for evil companies, everything you said is true. At the end of the day though, you have a small amount of people seeking refunds for a legitimate reason, and a publishing company and / or development company not willing to foot the bill for whatever reason that we can't be lead to understand. There is no legal reason for a refund, but there is a moral one, and this is the first legitimate time I've ever heard of IGA being on the wrong side of something like this.
Edit, I just saw PWS provide the context. This argument is invalid. If you are saying the KS TOS doesn't apply because it's not a failed KS, the TOS doesn't come into play in the first place and can't be used to legally get a refund. If you are saying the KS did fail (at least partially) they have obviously covered themselves as 505 described.

Barring some magical reversal, that's where I'm left. Thanks to XombieMike for allowing people to air grievances respectfully and being even-handed in moderating things. Man, you taking the time to say that means a lot. The community at large believes you deserve your 30 bucks back. I hate that Igarashi's name is getting smeared by this, but I totally understand. Thank's for not going bananas and for being respectful.

I am disappointed that 505 Games will not refund the small percentage of Mac and Linux backers that want a refund instead of switching to a different platform or who are willing to accept the idea of using a tool to play the game on their system. I would like to think those alternatives would cover the majority of those who backed for those platforms, but there are obviously around a dozen or so people who would rather just have a refund all together.
I hope not much development resources were spent on these platforms, as there are a loss at this point.
To the backers that demand refunds and will not be playing the game:
I understand your anger and frustration. However, if you are not going to play the game, your business in the community is concluded if your only reason for sticking around is venting your frustration by being disrespectful to our staff. I honestly hope you will change your mind and play on another platform. You are also free to remain here to campaign for a refund so long as you do so with respect. I do not like banning people. I do not like silencing people. It is our responsibility to cultivate a healthy community, and although this dark smudge will persist, I don't think it serves the rest of the community who will remain here to endure the posts of people who are only here to bad mouth the team. If you find yourself typing something that can be judged as a snide remark, consider respectfully and quietly leaving, and do so with my personal respect and apology that this mess happened to you.

I'm all for a refund for Mac and Linux backers, but I gotta tell ya that after seeing that is so few people who have actually backed for those platforms, development resources do not need to be wasted on making a game on a platform that will only have a handful of people playing on it.
I understand this poll doesn't capture everyone, but compared to the other polls I've seen here, this really puts some perspective on why this decision was made. At this point I hope they never wasted a single day developing for Mac or Linux.

Man, with some of the attitudes from a couple of the people wanting refunds, it's getting hard to sympathize anymore.
I'd say good luck with legal action, but I think that would cost way more than just buying a Switch or something.
Question said he'd touch base again. The world doesn't become what you want it to by throwing a hissy fit. Learn some patience in the face of adversary as although I still stand on the side of refunds being the right thing to do, a couple of you have attitudes that I can no longer align with.

Hey all! I decided to dedicate a little time and my experience of setting up forums to help the SotN Hacked project. Check it out: sotnhacked.freeforums.netSotN Hacked is a game engine being written by Esco, and will use existing and new resources to recreate and expand upon Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I love supporting the fan community, and I hope this project will extend the love of SotN to new people and inspire collaboration and creativity.

Heh, people being worried about DICO's involvement changing is a prime example of how following this whole development has gone. We see something in the start of the Kickstarter, or in an update then months later things have been dropped or changed or never mentioned again.
Yeah, we have no real reason to believe DICO is any less involved than originally announced.
I like monthly updates, but I think updates have been approached in a way that could have been more informative about the development process. It feels like there is a PR curtain in place, and the strategy for releasing information is just to let us know that everything is still going ok with new content, and we are on a need to know basis.

illaseraForum rules will always be strictly enforced, but that doesn't mean you can't campaign within them. This project is far from a scam and adheres to the Kickstarter terms of use. I wont keep repeating myself, but you all may as much as you feel you need to. Just keep it respectful.

Sorry you are disappointed in me, but I'm just being real here. It's not fraud. It's a Kickstarter, and there is no legal way you are gonna get a refund. I'm just being real here, man. The previous refunds offered were done not by force, but by good will from IGA.
I have no idea why it isn't being offered this time. It might have to do with it being tied to the other "PC" backer offers and they don't wanna open it up to every Windows user to get a refund. That's just my theory.
Either way, I'm sorry you can't play on your platform. That sucks. The reality is that isn't going to change, and you aren't going to have any legal reason for a refund.
The best course of action you can hope for is appealing to get a refund due to personal accountability from IGA. Don't threaten legal action that has no weight, instead plead that you are a fan and that you want a refund only on grounds of it being the thing of integrity to do.

All of this is Kickstarter terms of use stuff hinges on, "If a creator is unable to complete their project..."
The project will be completed so none of that holds any weight. It won't be able to be exactly what it started as, but they have proven it's as complete as it can be for the majority of backers.
Yeah, in good faith as much transparency should be used, but don't kid yourself about being owed some sort of refund or more information about what led to this decision. You donated to a Kickstarter, you didn't buy a product.
The chances of getting a reply from 505 that will satisfy you is pretty slim, no matter what they say isn't it? It all leads to the same conclusion.
Id love 505 to prove me wrong just as much as you.

turbor it sounds like promises were made with good intentions but a failure to deliver on such a promise. I hope it wasn't done out of ignorance or expecting it to be easy. I really hope Linux and Mac users get a better technical answer about what roadblocks were hit and why. I hate speculating myself when I know so little of what has gone on. 0z You have the right attitude about this bad news. It sucks for people in your position, but I'm glad you aren't tossing the whole game aside in anger. Alright, I'm gonna stop butting in now unless I'm needed. Welcome to the new people. Sorry it was bad news that brought ya here. I hope you stick around as part of this great community.

If the new devs and publisher had misgivings about keeping ALL of the promises made by the original Kickstarter, they should have stated that when they took over, not years later. Yeah, I couldn't agree more. I feel like the publisher is trying to release bad news with some strategy in mind and may have known about Vita and Mac / Linux sooner than when it was announced to us. Who knows for sure though, as there must be a lot that happens behind the scenes, and efforts made to fix or plan on addressing the bad news stuff before they announce it. Look guys, it's not a good time right now to expect answers about how and why this exactly happening with Mac & Linux. You have brought your points to the right place, and I promise you that 505 will read them. When the new years vacations are done, give them a little time to address your questions on this. I find it a bit odd that Unreal 4 Engine can't simply export a port to these systems. I kinda thought that was the big thing about game engines like that and Unity. That they can port more easily as long as the hardware can perform. I don't expect UE4 can magically make Bloodstained compile and work on a smart phone, but I would expect the engine to be able to get stuff to Linux. What do I know though, as Mac isn't known for first releases of games for a reason. Not to poop all over Mac, but I don't exactly see gaming rigs for Macs and games launching the same day for both. Maybe it's because I just am not part of that world though. Anyways, give 505 time to answer the details about how this happened. They didn't give a detailed behind the scenes story of how it all went down with Vita though. On the topic of refunds, don't expect them. Kickstarters tell ya up front there is risk and that once your money is in, it's in. Sure, refunds are possible, but I think anyone who expects a refund is just not seeing the reality of how that money is already budgeted. When you back a Kickstarter you aren't purchasing a product or making a pre-order. You are giving a creator a chance to make their project a reality.

I also question whether they ever intended to release on anything other than Windows and consoles, and simply listed Mac and Linux to pull in extra money. I understand where you are coming from, and I didn't plan on dissuading any backers from being upset from the recent news. It sucks for them, even though there aren't many people who were limited to Mac or Linux. However, regarding the quoted sentence I think that is an unreasonable thing to say. When this Kickstarter first happened you had a different publisher and a different development team. (Deep Silver and IntiCreates). Now you have 505 and Dico (with Monobit and Wayforward also helping). No one in the beginning had the evil plan to make you back the project then lie to you. It's simply a matter of things changing along the way. You say you question this, but I hope you agree that this answer is enough to set such a question aside. I understand being upset might cause people to jump to the worst conclusions, but it's unfair to IGA to act like this whole game is some sort of scam, or planned to rip off fans. This game is being made. People are working hard on it every day. Backers are the only people with monetary investment. Please be respectful. Thank you for coming here to share your point of view. It's welcome even when it's not easy to swallow. I hope the reason you remain here is to be part of the fandom after you have said what you feel you must, and not stay here to simply argue with others. I hope everyone welcomes every new person on the forum, even if they came here to express a disappointment.

Welcome to the forums! The clan names were incentives for influencers to spread the word about the game, so only people like big YouTuber's or groups like Castlevania Dungeon and Operation Akumajo were the ones that get a clan name. If you don't wanna use one of those, you can choose a predefined weapon clan instead which was a reference to swordorwhip.com back when the Kickstarter was still going on. Clan choice should have been part of your backer survey.
