yes, but the last update was a rather large one, and it was said there's a playable Alpha build coming up that their giving out. So shortly before we can play an Alpha build for our selves doesn't sound like much need for an update right now. My guess is all the criticism they received at E3 delayed that Alpha build a bit so they can do things like re-adjust the movement speed. Would like a new update as well, maybe just a small one to know what the status of that Alpha build is it is proven that there is nothing wrong with the movement speed. They received the feedback from E3 but not backers, it is not right to make adjustment without considering the input of backers, I suggest they release the demo so backers can give their feedback. Silence is not gold. It is a bad move if they try to make drastic changes because of E3 feedback alone and I am not happy with the "silent treatment" after E3. It's their game and they can do whatever they like. We have no choice but accept their decision. I agree with akuwa, the last update about a playable alpha is indeed very large news. They also said in an earlier update that they would be releasing updates not every month but every couple or so. They're in the 'cake-baking' part of development, so there isn't really a whole lot to talk about. I don't really see a problem right now. Silence is golden if it gives them the time and peace of mind to focus on what they need to focus on. And they're probably going to have something else to talk about beyond the alpha, anyway.

Retro Level"One section of the castle will feature an area that Miriam can traverse in beautiful retro graphics. We've been referring to this section as the “8-bit Level” internally, although it may be closer to 16+ bit depending on how we mix it with the full game. While a full-blown 8-bit game doesn't fit into the game's budget, backer support will allow us to have fun with the development and create a little retro magic in our game." - Update 2 - May 14 2015 - Source Classic Mode will give us stages, linear adventure and a 'Castlevania'-feel from the old days before the RPG-elements were introduced. Inti-Creates development for the prequel will be a complete 'Classic / Modern' game with probably a combination of the best aspects from both Castlevania, Metroid and Igavania, with an Inti-Creates twist. Meanwhile the actual main game will have a Retro Level inside of it. Perhaps a hidden room, or special odd room or an corridor of some sorts. This thread is about the Retro Level, not to be confused with either Classic Mode or Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night prequel. What do you expect to see in this environment / area of which will be a "Retro Level"?

Whole Section? Small Room? Big Room??? Do you think it will be a complete section of the map, for example, instead of going to the "Garden of the Unbound", you end up in "The Lost Arena" which have many different locations attached to it? Everything from a bigger area to a corridor some rooms before you exit the place and goes back to "normal" again? Small Room?
Do you think it is perhaps just one room, where there is no need for a door of any kind, the transition from one frame to another would be fine since there are less for the game engine to process once you get close to that room. If so, what will the room contain? Would it have a tribute of some kind? Will it have a pixelated version of something you have seen before in the game? Perhaps it is a room with nothing but just cool backgrounds, like paintings and information? Big Room?
Or, do you think the retro level will be one big room (2x3 or 2x2) with lots of floors and details, showing all kinds of things, even have unique (or remade) enemies?I imagine it'll be it's own stage, or shall we say, portion of the castle. The movement, the backdrop philosophy (having it darker than the forground) and behaviours are all within those rules. Example. Will same breakable things be breakable? Are the speed the same? I'm sure the 'Retro' level will follow the same recipes the handheld IGAvanias did. Shards Lastly, how will the shards work in this level? Will they look 2,5 D? Will Miriam be LOCKED so she can't use any shards in this are, leaving us to believe it will be a cursed environment of some kind? Perhaps there will be a pixel-filter on-top of any of the shards we are using? Fun ideas, but it'll probably function just like Aria Of Sorrow. Let me know! Mostly what you think, and add in what you really want to see as well.

For me it's a solid 'no interest'. I've always deplored companies that hold back content for players that don't have two separate pieces of a franchise, or rather, two games. That's one thing that I hate about Pokémon, for example. Gotta have two versions of the same game to fill the Pokedex? c'mon. Or when Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS were released, and Mewtwo (The first playable character DLC) took a while to become a paid DLC? C'mon. Really? (Game Freak/Nintendo)

Im not dissapointed, this is why... Many of us fell in love with the SotN brand of Castlevania games for years. We were spoiled by the almost yearly consistent release of new high quality (low budget) Castlevania games. Iga's games had an almost indie feel before the indie scene really took off. 2D games were a rarity in those days. Konami decided Castlevania should be a more mainstream AAA title so after Order of Ecclesia 10 YEARS AGO we never got another Iga title. The Lords of Shadow games just didn't feel the same. And (at least in my opinion) indie games immitating the metroidvania formula pale in comparison. I'm sure you already know all that but my point is... most of us in the forums waited a decade for another game like this and the fact that it exists is enough. You're talking to people that still play games from the early 90's on a regular basis . We don't give a shit if Miriams hair isn't bouncy enoughYes! This entirely! L O V E <3 I can definitely see your point on the whole 3D vs cell shaded 2D, aindriu , I really do! And in retrospect, it can definitely throw a lot of perceptions off. I totally get it. I think the reason why so many of us are so attached to this is because Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a revival of something we thought was a dead battery... When I backed Bloodstained, I was SO excited to see another IGAvania game! The Lord of Shadows timeline just didn't do it for me, and I quickly lost interest in Castlevania as a whole. Seeing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night brought about a new yearning in me; I wanted this game to happen. I didn't care whether the game was 2D, 2.5D, or 3D; I saw IGA's image, and immediately fell in love. It was the Castlevania that I had fallen in love with, but with a new resurgence. A new set of lungs, if you will. I LOVED it. If there's know-how to be said for gameplay, let it be known for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It'll play like a traditional IGAvania, and that's all I care about. Hopefully even though the aesthetics throw you off, you can still play this game and enjoy it for what it is reminiscent of, or if you're like me, love it for those absolutely O R I G I N A L mechanics...

Pure Miriam Yes, but the candelabras that contained the necessary skills for exploration in Aria of Sorrow were still obtained after boss fights, so I don't count those. The only ability souls that WEREN'T boss completion necessary were the Kicker Skeleton, Hypogryph, and Grave Keeper, all of which were not necessary to beat the game. Skeleton Blaze I suppose was a necessary one, though... Hmm.

So, my own personal points of interest: 1. I think it's funny that everyone is trying so hard to collect money in the demos that I've seen. Focus on the gameplay, damnit! Ahahaha 2. Curious that the 'Double Jump' shard is obtained from a method unorthodox to the series. (IE candle instead of a boss) If this is the case for a large chunk of the mobility shards, it might be more in one's interest to focus on exploration rather than slaying boss type enemies. Very interesting. (It would also be more of a Symphony of the Night, and less of a Circle of the Moon, were that to be the case. I surmise that a very happy CastleDan will be part of the end equation...) :] 3. I like that they kept the majority of the pause screen the same. OWN IT, BABY! 4. I love that there are TACTICS to the boss fights! Staying under Bloodles's umbrellas during her 'Blood Rain' ability is a simple, yet BRILLIANT idea. Love! 5. Everything is looking CLEAN. So far I haven't really noticed anything that has bothered me. Keep it up, IGA...!

AHAHAHA YAAAAS. LOVE But who is this maiden in a blood-soaked dress, I wonder??? Nice to see the familiar armours from Circle of the Moon and Symphony of the night return. Or at least the animated armour enemy theme, I should say. So far the only thing I'm NOT crazy about is that Miriam... 'yelps' EVERY time she gets a new shard. Hopefully this can be disabled somehow, though I'm not hopeful.

So I recently started my project for a game I am creating called 'Chronicles Lost', and I was wondering if anyone knows someone online who I could potentially reach out to, to create art for the game? I myself am handling the plugins, physical assets, and musical assets for the game, however the only place I simply have no reach for is monster art. (Or art in general) I would pay for their services, of course, and I have a flood of ideas. I am assuming maybe someone from twitter or a like site.
I tried a couple of searches, but the only 'monster' designers were ones who created 'monstrously good website design' which I don't give a f*ck about. It's been a rather thorn in my side. :/

After coming back from Reboot Develop in Croatia and all the endless voice recording sessions, I'm blasting this in our empty office (coincidentally, everyone's off to other offices). IF Gebel or Alfred are playable characters (outside of their likely Boss Revenge appearance), I'd like to see those two having a separate "CAPE" equipment slot. Assuming they even get an equipment screen to begin with. Sadly not the case for our lovely Stella and Lorreta~
