Enemies have always been palette swapped it never really was a problem before and that's mainly because they still typically function differently. Do we complain when there's like 15 different skeleton types? No, because each type brings something different to the table. Maybe someone's black cat will cast magical spells, maybe someones red cat will be more physical...etc. Copy and paste as a complaint always seemed more directed at the level design because if you're exploring a castle and each room is literally just pasted to the next then there's no desire to explore further. Why explore when I'm most likely not going to see anything interesting visually. Enemies being somewhat similar visually doesn't matter because what they do is very different. gunlord500 makes a great point though. The one single point that needs to be made. The hound tier says nothing about collaboration. It says nothing about input. All it says is we will TURN YOUR PET INTO AN ENEMY.They took a general enemy idea and are giving 5 cat type enemies that structural idea, with different looks depending on the cat. They're all really cool looking and probably function in really cool ways but they're level. Regardless they made sure of it being a ridiculously awesome enemy... they're getting GIANT freakin' mutant cats which is better than I ever thought it'd be. ( which I still think shouldn't have been posted out of respect for the team) If you wanted to collaborate or wanted to come up with cool ideas for your enemy then you picked the wrong tier. It is a lot of money, I'm not arguing that and it is a bummer if you aren't satisfied but there's nothing saying they were going to make 5 completely different types of enemies for each pet and it honestly makes sense if they keep the tier consistent in terms of design. I have nothing against different sorts of skeletons since they all behave differently - from what Thomas said I'm getting the vibe that the cats all behave just the same with a retexturing and some different numbers... This would kinda suck. I hope that's not what they're doing. Collaboration would go too far, I agree. That's for another tier. I think that some different design ideas / enemy behaviours wouldn't be asking too much so I hope that it is going to be less like this: and more like this:

I mean I thought he complained about the look or design being similar. Basically all of them having a giant cat out of a wall. They will visually still look different and I'd imagine have some variations in terms of attacks possibly. If not like I said.... this is to be expected. I guess I never expected 5 super different cats. It sounded like a tier that just takes people's cats and takes one enemy type and changes the look of each to fit the persons cat. It's easier that way in a game of 90+ enemies to help pad it out with visual swaps while still evening the playing field by no cat being cooler than any other. If this was one of the collaboration tiers where they promise you that you can help design how your enemy might work and instead they had each persons enemy function the same way and made them virtually the same that would be the real bummer. How the pet thing was advertised it just sounded like, give us a picture and we will transform your cat into an enemy. As simple as that. Could they be more creative and do 5 completely unique cool designs that function differently? Sure maybe but it seems like that'd create more headaches for them in the grand scheme with all the other things they have to worry about

I am currently made my decision to make my shoe not one of the level up weapons. I decided to go with it since there is to my knowledge only one or two other weapons that went this route and hey, it's now in the collection. But weapon placement and balance among other weapons is a part of game development that I'm unfamiliar with. And I feel like I'll be attached to my weapon. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

I'll send a fanart when I can of the weapon, as dev concept art was asked not to be shown As the beginning of this thread shows, My original idea for a weapon was a "rainbow whip" with its ability being that the element it hits with be random. It was a fairly simple design(actually not a design at all, imo) as it focused on the flash of the whip's colors.
A survey came out, the devs had several questions they wanted to cover (how many weapons of a certain type, what elements were we planning to use) While we could choose the type, and various attributes attached to the weapon, it would be to the devs to decide on power, and game balance might cause some options to be tweaked in power as more or less powerful(the example they gave was a petrify weapon being less powerful in damage because petrify is a powerful status effect). The devs encouraged us to suggest abilities, even though they were not part of the survey. The most important one was two options for our weapon, either making it a specific "Backer Weapon" that was avalable in one spot that leveled up, or a weapon located and scaled with other weapons in the castle and did not level up, but would be listed in the collection and be available every playthrough.
Another email came out with the results, asking people to confirm their choice, as some weapons had similar attributes. I'd rather not share them as they may have changed in discussion, like mine has. Mine was one of the ones that were the same as another's, however. I was going back and forth on changing my design to another whip (a flame whip with an angel design? a lightning gohei whip?) when I had a epiphany while watching miriam's sprite animations and went with shoes with poison.(my epiphany:You cannot sheathe shoes. The shoes remain visible in all her sprites, unlike other weapons which are put away) Around this time too I was starting to draw the design for it.
Eventually the day arrived, we had to submit our visual ideas for the weapon. being an artist was not required, if one wanted, they could submit ideas and ask the art devs to make a weapon based on it. Ok, this will be my last update as my enthusiasm for this process has reached an all time low.
I finally got an update tonight, Sept 10, for the hounds of hell tier. They are asking for a name and description for my pet with the deadline to reply being Sept 14...
Less than 1 week notice and with a disclaimer that if they don't like the description they will change it. No discussion, no back and forth.
For reference, I last heard from them(Mana) on July 20th in response to a question. I followed up on July 21, and after hearing nothing for over a month reached out again on August 29th... No response until this extremely rushed request for final info.
I truly hope the game is amazing, but I certainly feel like my contribution has been an after thought. Please prove me wrong Iga.

I'm really sorry to hear that there's been some difficulty with communication for your hounds of hell, or that you've felt like your feedback and wishes aren't being heard.
You can count on me to fix that, all double quick time-like.
I'm going to send you a brief personal message with my email address immediately after I post this reply. Tell me everything regarding the details of your pet/requests in your own words and I will make sure to speak to the team & Mana about it and make sure we're not ramming your desires down a conveyor belt, so to speak.
I rarely speak on behalf of Iga, if ever, but having seen how much he cares and is humbled by every single backer and fan, I feel confident in saying that he would say the exact same thing I just did.
And if it took a while to hear back from Mana, rest assured it's not because she doesn't care, she lives and breathes this stuff like me, I'm positive it's just because of how insanely busy she gets or a simple case of an email slipping through the cracks.
If anyone else is having similar issues or concerns please don't hesitate to reach out to me, the last thing I want is for some of our biggest, oldest supporters to even FEEL like they're not being taken care of, much less have that actually happen.!
