Hello to all. New to the forum, fan of Castlevania since the NES days. Still have the original carts and all, and just pledged $60 for the WiiU version of Bloodstained. I was thinking about something that to be honest bugged me a bit when Castlevania made the change to an exploration type (Metroidvania) game. When you switched armors, you never saw a hint that your character was wearing the armor. Alucard only changed capes. It was a 2d sprite game so it would be hard to create and animate all the armor variety that was in that game (the shields being different were a nice touch). I know this may sound stupid and that modeling and texturing armor would be an additional burden... but it would be nice to see some sort of update to the model, a piece of armor or something indicating a change of equipment. Metroid (Super Metroid in fact) did this in their own unique way changing some details on the Varia Suit (Shoulders, boots) and with a different set of colors. Hell, make 20 different mesh models and do retexture/pallette swaps to indicate "different"or stronger armor types. and since it's a 3D update you can put it "on" the existing character model. Doesn't have to be a full suit of mail/chainmail/plate armor, just a visual cue that indicates a change in equipment. It's the little details that make a game from good to memorable.

Welcome galcian ! Make yourself at home I like your idea. Subtle changes like pallette swaps and extra meshes that negligibly add dev risk (if that makes sense, or something like that) I think will work favorably to get the point across and provide enough savory visual detail to entertain the player. This will also help prevent possibly adding more dev overhead, as what I'm inferring. Though I have a small hunch that something like this is already in the plans, but don't take my words as anything. I'm just an avid Igavania fan!

Yeah, seeing as small customizations to the character model are already confirmed, it's not a far reach to think that armor options might have some visual impact. So many full outfit changes are probably out, but small pieces here and there might be good.
Though, it's too bad we can't collect things like cuirasses/plate/etc and see them...you know, in a 2D game, given the nature of sprites, you can just kind of imagine them on there, but with a full 1080p character model, it will be a little awkard equipping things with names like that and not seeing that physical thing on them. Makes me wonder if the equipables will instead be just headpieces, ribbons and the shoulder/leg armor. Yeah...too bad, collecting and putting on things with historic armor names was fun haha.

I think they've definitely decided a lot of people want gear that changes her appearance.
1. They already confirmed headgear that changes her look 2. They said you can change the colors of Miriam in general. 3. They've added a ribbon which I assume might be like the cape function in SOTN. 4. They have the pure costume, which may imply theirs different costumes in the game ( might be wrong)
either way, there's some evidence to suggest your characer is customizable in some regards.

Okay this is something that can be sweet as hell or "oh god why" I'm gonna reference dark souls once again because sometime minmaxing your armor gets touninto some very hilarious fashion styles. Like wearing next to no pants, grotesquely heavy armbands with chains in them non shirt and a huge helmet n some cases with horns. While it makes sense for say a savage looking character using a similar weapon it always struck me as odd when the player in question was using something like a dagger and buckler.
I really don't want to see Miriam running about in grotesquely mismatched gear. That said I'm not against this idea of armor affecting appearance, in the contrary I support it. I'd just like it to be a toggle-able thing.. if its notnoutbof the way.
I mean just think for a moment about Julius running around with winged boots and berserker mail... okay yeah nevermind that's terrifying all to itself.... yeah you get the idea.

maybe as an inbetween, develop armor sections with thematic elements as opposed to specific armors to cut down greatly on the number of models that need to be created to show armor, and with customization options like color, visibility, and material i think that could allow the greatest versatility for the least amount of dev work
for instance 'ice armor', 'spike plate', 'flame armor' or 'demon plate' or 'fury plate' all share the spiky armor model with a different default color and material, but with customization you can toggle visibility or change the color or the material and now you have spiky watermelon armor or something
