Welcome to the community miketendo and... Some want to change existing established characters into something they're not (i.e. the "movement" which claims Samus Aran is transgendered. She's not, for the record.) I'm sorry but what.

...Right then, this topic kinda exploded in posts since I was last here last night.
Welp, let's petition that IGA give her a cow-themed alt costume to reference her cup size.

Yeah im honestly scared that japanese game devs are being scared off from releasing games in the west more and more slowly because of the way their artistic values are shunned over here.
I understand if people dont like it, but reactions just seem so dramatic about it imo.
Also does doa actually have THAT many large boobs? Im pretty sure many are pretty normal, its just they have comical bounce physics and tons of revealing outfits.

I must admit I'm a DOA fan. Ever since playing Dead or Alive 3 at a friends house, I absolutely fell in love with the combat. Compared to every other fighting game I had played up to that point, everything felt fluid and the characters were all based on reality. It was refreshing in a way that still kept it grounded.
It wasn't until I was paying attention to releases that when Dead or Alive 4 came out I realized everyone was talking about the boobs. Of course I noticed certain characters had revealing outfits, but I didn't think it was a big deal at the time. To this day I play the series without regard to the public opinion. It HAS gotten way more fanservicey over the years, I can't deny, but that isn't why I play it. It still offers the best hand to hand combat AND visuals in any fighting game, in my opinion.

Off-topic, but I'll explain. A question that someone working on Metroid was given was run through Google Translate, and it seemed to peg Samus Aran as a transsexual. This led to a transsexual feminist named Brianna Wu trumpeting "Samus is transsexual, get over it". However, in actuality, the question the Metroid developer was asked? He was asked if Metroid might appear on non-Nintendo systems, to which the developer responded "That's about as likely as Samus being a tranny". So, yeah, the whole 'Samus is transgender' is a result of a mistranslation.

There's nothing that I despise the most than a small elite group with social connections (the same I talked about) doing their work to censor and control what we hear or see and also how we must think. I want Miriam's art to be the way IGA wishes it to be without restrictions, without concerns about offending anyone. It would be a nightmare to develop a game that has to please every audience. I want this game created by Japanese standards without any consideration for political correctness.
This game don't have to be created with the western culture in mind.

I am all for busty video game women just as much as the next person however the latest shot of Miriam is just awkward looking. I had mentioned to Mike when the first shaders came out how to me it didn't look right then either as the previous pictures of Miriam the tattoo seemed more on her collarbone area and not directly on top of her boob. The new shot looks like the hem of her clothes is mid boob and there should be nip showing. Anatomically it is weird. In many of the original drawings it seemed she was c cup and all of a sudden she is DD. Someone got work done before her debut.

Ok I don't know who miketendo is but he's clearly someone XombieMike respects. Welcome. With your post below, its a pretty meaty one and I want to break it down. There are many parts I agree with but also some part I disagree with, strongly: Hey All, been meaning to create an account here for some time (I am a backer, after all,) but this just gives me an excuse so here I am. Man, do I have a lot to say on this topic. I'm a HUGE Castlevania fan and was delighted to help fund Igarashi's latest project, Bloodstained. However, there's a few things to keep in mind about the gaming market and the shift that has been happening as of late when it comes to sexuality, gender, and the gaming industry. What we've been seeing is an increase in awareness to the hobby, and therefore, more people of all different shapes, sizes, races, religion and genders are checking out video games. It used to be a boys club (for the most part,) but now various surveys put the female gender closer than ever to the male-dominated market of video games. The rule of thumb was previously that most gamers are white, young, heterosexual males but that's changing. Sadly, what we're also seeing is a call for diversity to games, one which European and North American game developers have been embracing. There's also been a huge uprising of the female and transgendered genders wanting characters that they can claim as their own and identify with. Some want to change existing established characters into something they're not (i.e. the "movement" which claims Samus Aran is transgendered. She's not, for the record.) Castlevania has, for the most part, always been developed by a Japanese subsidiary of Konami in some way, shape or form. They are a Japanese company with Japanese developers. They also tend to enjoy making more sexualized characters in Japan, something that doesn't translate well to the United States, specifically, due to Puritanical views. What we're seeing is a twisted return of the 90s censorship in video games only now, the ratings system is already established. Things quieted down quite a bit after this happened, but now instead of the conservative bible-belt brigade leading the cause, we have a more liberal tinged group; a small minority of people who want flat chested, obese women parading around in video games. In other words, they want to identify more with their avatar. Well, a few things: First, there is NOTHING sad about an increased call for diversity and I do think Japan would be good to hop on this "train" so to speak as well. Gaming is a hobby for everybody and it is in fact important that people be able to see more game characters like them in a variety of roles with a variety of body types. It allows for the creation of new, interesting and often unexplored character designs, character archetypes, plotlines and narratives, perspectives, etc. Second, merely complaining or critiquing the character design is NOT censorship and not all who are making these complaints are doing so from some puritanical, sex-negative perspective. Saying they all want flat, ugly women in games in reductive, hyperbole and inflammatory. It's up to the creator to choose if they listen to feedback or not, nobody is holding a gun to IGA's head. Now sure, I personally hope said feedback is ignored because I think the model is great as it is and I disagree with the complaints but either way this falls out still isn't censorship. Finally, the feedback loop between society and the media is real. A big part of why we have so few women in the video-game industry for so long is because its drilled into our heads for so long that "games are for boys only". I'm glad that's changing and I think the game industry as a whole has been moving in a good direction because of these conversations we've been having. Heck, the protagonist for this game was going to be male until IGA read the current of the industry and decided to go with Miriam. I think its wonderful that this game has a chance at a cool and awesome female protagonist (though I hope they don't make her boring) - it made me more excited to back this game and makes me more excited to play it As an aside, I'll agree that I'm not a fan of changing the gender, sexuality, race, etc. of well established characters for the sake of inclusion but that's because I think its cheap, lazy and a dis-service. More awesome characters of other perspectives is very much welcome though. Like race-swapping or gender-swapping Peter Parker would be lazy but I think Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy are awesome parts/additions to the Spider-Man universe as ....... well Spider Man and Spider Gwen <3 This is a terrible retort. Someone can critique something without being able to do better. If you went to a restaurant and got severd a shitty meal and complained to the chef, would you accept "Well if you didn't like it go home and cook your own meals!"? No you'd think that was dumb. As such, this retort is also subpar. Cosmo? As in Cosmo Kramer from Seinfield? In general no, men don't have issues with Cosmo usually because they tend to have a plethora of good male role models in media to look up to. Women decidedly have fewer. I will agree though that women characters in games can be curvaceous and strong (in every sense of the word) - there is no conflict there in general or for the Castlevania series. Yes I would agree with this point Technically you can't body shame fictional characters and I think assuming anyone who has complaints is jealous or hates a fictional character is absurd and insulting. I will say, women in real life do get a lot of shit for their looks - including their breast size- and its a shame. Too small and its "looks like a man" and too big and "she's a slut". Both are terrible forms of sexism and very unfortunate. I do think that some (not all of course) complaints about the breast size steam from the later principle and its been why I've always felt "Big Boobs = GROSS" critiques to be reductive and not always healthy. That being said, get out of here with the jealously/hatred accusations. Some people just don't like her default outfit at all. I don't agree with that opinion but they are entitled to it. Agreed but we don't have much else to discuss right now BTW, Scuttlest , don't use the word "tranny", its offensive

Dear Iga-
Please don't change her breast size or make her clothing more conservative. Don't allow America's current redonkulous PC Nazi movement and their agents of suppressing liberty, free speech, and artistic creativity have any influence on this game or anything else you create. I backed Bloodstained on kickstarter because I believed in YOUR vision for the game...

Wow this is a hot topic! I'm a little surprised everyone is talking about Miriam's boobs more than the new shader, but I'll share my opinion nonetheless. This is a nonissue for me. Miriam's endowment is an artistic decision, and I respect that decision. The left breast and its crystal curse were always intended to be a focal point --a key element of the overall design. Why should we complain if Igarashi wants a slightly larger breast to accentuate this element of Miriam's character? For the fans making a fuss over this, please reconsider! This kind of silly backlash can have a chilling effect on the whole project. We've come a long way from the censorship of the 80s and 90s. This forum has another topic with a poll showing that less than 1% of us object to nudity, so why are 28% of us fussing over a tastefully clothed C-cup? Most of the comments here are reasonable, civil, and productive. Thank you for making this forum a place where everyone can feel comfortable and confident sharing their honest opinions. As for those who have trouble respecting their fellow fans, I have my eye on you... Cheers

The discrepancy between the polls may simply have to do with some people thinking a smaller bust suits her figure more (and then there is the fact that smaller could mean a hair smaller down to a flat chest) so that may be a possible explanation to your question. I would also like to point out to those just joining us that the poll was added later, and this originally was a simple discussion about the change in the character model from past art. I personally have not seen anyone say they are offended by the increase but I have seen a lot of people say they are offended over the people being offended. Wat? Overall though people have been respectful. You guys're alright.
